3. Semana passada...
4. Onde se situa sua pesquisa? (Qual é o "They Say"?)
5. Qual seria seu número "2", em termos de C.A.R.S.?
4. "They Say, I Say"
• "(A) writer needs to indicate not only what
his or her thesis is, but also what larger
conversation that thesis is responding to."
(p. 20)
• "(W)hen is comes to constructing an
argument […], remember that you are
entering a conversation and therefore
need to start with 'what others are
saying'…" (p. 20)
remover metais e contaminante do solo
Além disso estamos verificando a
expressão desses lncRNAs no contexto do PF.
mesmos?
possivel resultado. Dessa forma, teremos que
estar atentos a estes detalhes."
naysayer da pesquisa seria minha orientadora,
que buscaria pontos incorretos, e identificar a
solução dos problemas."
13. (Começo do resumo)
"While the number of research articles
written by non-native speakers of English and
published in English-medium international
journals is on the rise, little is known about
the extent to which that trend may be
affecting the way in which English is used in
that genre. To address this gap, a corpus …"

15. Conceito "C.A.R.S."

4. Título-pergunta
5. Título efeito de X em Y
6. Título + explanação

35. Título-achado
Sair de casa sem guardachuva
aumenta probabilidade de chuvas
Resumo
Das últimas décadas, fala-se muito sobre a
necessidade de se sentir protegido da chuva.
77. "Start with your data"
•"The story grows organically
from the data..."
•"When you run into problems
is when the author knows the
story they want to tell before
they collect the data." (p. 9)
102. Esqueleto comparativo
CARS
• MOVE 1: English is the language of
science, but many scientists are
not native speakers of English.
• MOVE 2: We know that non-native
speakers have difficulty, but we do
not know if that difficulty is greater
than in their first language.
• MOVE 3: We will quantify their
"burden" in each language.
PROBLEM-SOLUTION
• SITUATION: English is the language
of science.
• PROBLEM: But many scientists are
not native speakers of English.
• SITUATION: We know that non-
native speakers have difficulty.
• PROBLEM: But we do not know if
that difficulty is greater than in
their first language.
• RESPONSE: We quantified their
"burden" in each language.
104. Dentro das partes (de CARS ou
Problem-Solution)
•Analise a gramática usada em cada parte
•Analise o vocabulário e fraseologia usados em
cada parte
•Plagie esses elementos à vontade!
111. ARGUMENT = "CLAIM" +
"WARRANTING"
• "(A)n argument is a claim backed up (warranted) by
evidence." (p.47*)
• "You can apply (this concept) to any length of text, from a
sentence to the whole of a dissertation or book." (p. 48*)

Francisco, Jossey-Bass.
135. Como introduzir "problemas" (exemplo)
• "However, it remains unknown how these variants functionally
impact immune responses across populations."
• "However, the extent and genetic determinants of inter-population
transcriptional differences upon immune stimulation remain largely
unexplored,"
• "Despite these findings, the impact of selection and archaic
admixture on driving population differences in immune responses
remains to be investigated."

É IMPORTANTE QUE ESSA LINGUAGEM SEJA ANALISADA E
GRAVADA A PARTIR DE TEXTOS DE SUA ÁREA ESPECÍFICA!
• Opção menos desejável: comece a coletar alguma coisa logo!
• Opção menos desejável ainda: invente dados.
• E se ainda nem tem tema? Crie um! (Preferentemente com
orientador.)
147. O que falta (talvez)...
•Criar um título.
•Pegar "mentor articles" (pode ser aqueles da
primeira aula) e analise as seções Introduction,
"plagiando" onde achar útil.
•Escrever sua Introdução!
150. Esqueleto comparativo

152. The next steps...
AGORA
• Juntar-se a sua "turma";
• Meta de hoje: definir um título,
crie um esqueleto (CARS,
Problem-Solution, ou outro);
• Se der tempo, tente escrever a
abertura (primeiras sentenças)
da Introdução.
• Use qualquer recurso!
ATÉ A PRÓXIMA AULA (04/10/17)
• Mostre seu título e esqueleto para
seu/sua orientador(a).
• Write, write, write!
• Quando terminar a primeira
tentativa da Introdução, mostre-a
a(o) orientador(a).
• Envie sua introdução pelo link na
página da disciplina
(www.capa.ufpr.br).
• Descreva a experiência no
Formative.
