10. Much x Many x Little x Few
Estas palavras, são chamadas "quantificadores", porque
expressam quantidades. São usadas em diversas situações com
vários significados.
Primeiro, vamos relembrar algumas definições:
11. Definitions that help
(definições que ajudam):
Countable Nouns (nomes contáveis): Os substantivos
contáveis podem ser usados tanto no singular como no plural.
Quando usados no singular podem ser precedidos de artigo
indefinido (a/an); no plural são usados sem artigo ou com some:
a boy boys an apple some apples
12. (Substantivo não contável, sempre no singular)
Much é usado em perguntas e negações. Nas frases afirmativas só
é usado na linguagem formal, sendo, em geral, substituído por a lot
of ou lots of .
Usa-se com Uncountable nouns (coisas incontáveis), Abstract
Nouns (coisas abstratas), Mass Nouns (substâncias consideradas
genericamente).

14. Uma dica útil:
"How many“ é usado para coisas contáveis (asks
for a number), ou como se fosse o nosso "quantas"
e "quantos".
"How much“ é usado para os incontáveis (asks for
an amount), ou como se fosse o nosso "quanta" e
"quanto".
15. LITTLE
Pouco/a
Para Uncountable (incontáveis) no singular.
Little é o oposto de much e, como este é próprio da linguagem formal.
Informalmente é mais comum o uso de not much. Little pode ser mais
comum quando precedido de very (muito).

22. THERE TO BE representa na língua
inglesa o nosso verbo HAVER ou
EXISTIR.
O verbo THERE TO BE possui apenas 2 formas no
presente:
THERE IS e THERE ARE
Existe, há Existem, há
23. Attention 1
1. No dia a dia é comum usarmos o verbo TER em vez de HAVER ou
EXISTIR.
EX: TEM um cachorro na calçada.
HÁ , EXISTE um cachorro na calçada.
There is a dog on the sidewalk.
2. Em inglês o verbo TER tem o sentido de posse.
Veja a diferença:
EX: Eu TENHO um cachorro. (POSSE)
I HAVE a dog. (POSSE)
EX: TEM um cachorro na calçada.(EXISTÊNCIA)
HÁ , EXISTE um cachorro na calçada.(EXISTÊNCIA)
There is a dog on the sidewalk. .(EXISTÊNCIA)
24. THERE IS é usado no SINGULAR, ou seja, quando falamos de uma
pessoa, objeto, animal ou lugar.

THERE ARE é usado no PLURAL, ou seja, quando falamos de mais de
uma pessoa, objeto, animal ou lugar.
Exemplo: There are horses in the
country club.
Existem/ há cavalos no clube country.
25. Forma Negativa
de THERE TO BE
Para negar a existência de pessoas, animais, objetos lugares etc...,
acrescentamos not.
Veja:
There is not – não existe
There are not - não existem
Examples:
There is not an eraser in your pencilcase.
Não existe uma borracha em seu estojo.
There are not pencils in your pencilcase.
Não existem lápis em seu estojo.
26. Observe o exemplo utilizado anteriormente:
There isn´t trash on the ground.
Não existe lixo no chão.
Neste caso, usamos a forma negativa contraída:
There is not = there isn´t
There are not = there aren´t
Forma interrogativa
Para formar perguntas, é preciso apenas inverter a posição do verbo to
be:
There is = Is there?
There are = Are there?
27. Examples
Is there an eraser in your pencilcase?
Existe uma borracha em seu estojo?
Are there pencils in your pencilcase?
