2. PRESENT CONTINUOUS
TENSE
Uso do “Present Continuous”
 Descreve uma ação que está ocorrendo
agora, neste momento:
Ex.: What is the sailor doing now? (O que o
marinheiro está fazendo agora?)
He is just finishing his work. (Ele já está
terminando seu trabalho).

3. PRESENT CONTINUOUS
TENSE
● Forma afirmativa: She is reading.
● Forma negativa: She is not reading.
● Forma interrogativa: Is she reading?
● Formas abreviadas: isn't (is not). aren’t
(are not).
● Geralmente os verbos não sofrem
modificações ao receber a terminação-ing.

4. PRESENT CONTINUOUS
TENSE
Porém:
a) Se o verbo termina em consoante +-e, ele perde o -e
ao receber -ing.
Ex.: drive – driving / write – writing / love – loving
b) Se o verbo termina em consoante/vogal/consoante, e
esta for a sílaba tônica, dobra-se a última consoante e
acrescenta-se -ing.
Ex.: begin – beginning / swim – swimming / run – running /
cut – cutting

Atenção!
Nem sempre o ING é indicativo de gerúndio, podemos
usar tal estrutura com outras funções.
a) Usamos o ING quando o verbo aparece depois de
preposição, mesmo que você o traduza como
infinitivo:
Ex: This machine is capable of controlling the
system.
(Esta máquina é capaz de controlar o sistema.)

b) O ING também pode ser usado como
adjetivo ou substantivo em frases:
Ex: The building is under repair. (O prédio
está sob reparos.)
The cleaning products are in the closet. (Os
produtos de limpeza estão no armário.)

7. SIMPLE PRESENT
Forma Afirmativa (to describe => descrever)
I describe the illustration.
You describe the illustration.
He describes the illustration.
She describes the illustration.
It describes the illustration.
We describe the illustration.
You describe the illustration.
They describe the illustration.

8. SIMPLE PRESENT
Obs.:
1. No Simple Present, quando o sujeito de uma
oração afirmativa estiver na terceira pessoa do
singular (he/ she/ it), acrescenta-se -s .
Exemplos:
The manual CONTAINS instructions on how to
operate the 40 mm MK 3 gun system.
(O manual contém instruções de como operar o
sistema de arma MK 3 40 mm).

9. SIMPLE PRESENT
2. Nos verbos terminados em y:
a) Se precedido por vogal, mantenha o y e
acrescente –s.
Exemplo:
This button DELAYS the shot in an emergency
situation. (to delay – vogal + Y+ S)
(Este botão retarda o tiro em uma situação de
emergência.)

b) Se precedido por consoante, elimine o y e
acrescente –ies
Exemplo:
The publication TRIES to help the maintenance
of the whole system.
(to try - consoante + Y = - Y + IES)
(A publicação tenta ajudar a manutenção de todo
o sistema.)

11. SIMPLE PRESENT
3. Nos verbos terminados em ch, sh, ss, x, z e o,
acrescente -es:
Exemplos:
He POLISHES the tools after using them. ( to
brush )
(Ele lustra as ferramentas depois de usá-las.)

12. SIMPLE PRESENT
O “SIMPLE PRESENT” nas formas negativa e
interrogativa
● Afirmativa: You study. He studies.
● Negativa: You do not study. He does not study.
● Interrogativa: Do you study? Does he study?
● Formas abreviadas: don't (do not) doesn’t
(does not).

13. SIMPLE PRESENT
Atenção:
● Nas formas negativa e interrogativa em que se
usa o verbo auxiliar (DO / DOES) o verbo principal
fica no infinitivo, sem to.
● Frases iniciadas por palavras interrogativas
como: what. when. where, how, seguem as
mesmas regras das frases interrogativas.

14. FREQUENCY ADVERBS
Quando queremos dizer com que frequência algo
acontece, é comum o uso dos advérbios de frequência.
É possível usá-los no passado, presente ou futuro:
Examples:
We OFTEN went camping when we were children.
I USUALLY go to the gym at lunchtime.
I will ALWAYS love you.

15. FREQUENCY ADVERBS
Os advérbio de frequências mais comuns em inglês são:
Always Sometimes
Constantly Generally
Continually Normally
Forever Occasionally
Frequently Seldom
Regularly Rarely
Often Hardly ever
Usually Never

16. FREQUENCY ADVERBS
Advérbios de frequência podem aparecer em
diferentes posições na frase, mas é mais comum
que apareçam antes de verbo principal e depois
do verbo TO BE.
Examples:

I ALWAYS come to work on time.
They are SELDOM home when we call.
He's USUALLY eating breakfast at this time.
She's NEVER late to work.

18. FREQUENCY ADVERBS
A: Do you OFTEN come here?
B: No. I'm here OCCASIONALLY.
A: What do you USUALLY do here?
B: SOMETIMES I just sit and ponder the meaning
of life.

19. FREQUENCY ADVERBS
Observação: Os advérbios SELDOM, RARELY,
NEVER e HARDLY EVER são considerados
negativos.
A: Do you ALWAYS carry a briefcase?
Yes, I USUALLY do.
No, I USUALLY don't.
No, I RARELY do.
No, I HARDLY EVER do.

20. FREQUENCY ADVERBS
Outros advérbios e expressões de frequência:
every day/week/month
every other day/week
once a week/month/year
twice a year/day, etc.
(every) once in a while

22. POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES
Os adjetivos possessivos modificam substantivos,
portanto, aparecem sempre acompanhados de
substantivos.
Essas formas concordam somente com o possuidor.
Example: The seaman is cleaning the surface of the gun
with HIS brushes.
ITS measure is within the parameters.
Check YOUR signals against the table.
We always use OUR tools.
They have to keep THEIR doors closed.
