No
Emily.
outro aspecto do conto, vejamos outra instância do quarto: “ Dividindo o quarto,
apenas a decepção.
No plano histórico a Europa, no leste europeu acontecia a
no bloco.
A PAINFUL CASE - A CASE PAINFUL
ABSTRACT
The article aims to analyze the stories written by Jaymes Joyce under a psychoanalytic
perspective , trying to understand the factors used by the author as his perspective .
The tale comes resenhado , the story of a bachelor , former employee of a bank, which
in the presence of a woman in his life became more sociable and soon after the
termination of love relationship , he returns to life full of loneliness and sameness .
James Duffy , a cashier of a private bank and lonely bachelor , lives in the suburb of
Dublin in a dark house. Not only have friends and family visit at Christmas or when a
relative dies . Not support clutter and follows an agenda always the same : get up early
, go to work by tram, lunch and dinner always in the same places . His only pleasures
are going to play Mozart and operas and concerts . And it's one of those concerts that
he meets Emily Sinico , the lonely wife of a sea captain who does not care about her.
After the third meeting them , Duffy asks her to leave. At first , they meet at her house
4. , with the consent of Mr. Sinico who thinks that he is interested in his daughter . As
they become intimate , decide to meet in secret . One day , when they are talking
about loneliness , holds the hand of Emily Duffy , passionately , and leads to the chest.
He recoils in fear that a passion come tulmutuar your life organized and decides not to
see it . Shall be four years without him knowing anything about it , until I read in a
newspaper the news of his death. Outside She got hit by a train. The article insinuates
that she committed suicide . His own daughter gives an interview saying that in the last
days she used to drink at night . Witnesses say she used to ride the rails at the time of
the passing train . James feels disgusted by the way her death is treated , then feel
guilty for having it rejected and then feel sorry for her . Sai walking and reflects on his
life , about the lost opportunity to free himself from his loneliness . Feel the presence
and hears the voice of Emily . Suddenly realizes that her loneliness was a reflection of
his own loneliness and feels more lonely than nunca.Esta is the story of missed
opportunities and leads the reader and the protagonist to reflect on his life and the
opportunities lost not return .
We can see in this story the presence of a character narrator's first-person narrative
focus as the story is told in detail . You can identify this tale many elements that allow
us to know the the background the main character of the story , then we will look for
the part that all the information is clear . In a first time in history , we can observe the
fragment " . Mr. Duffly resided in Chapelizold because he wanted to live as far away
from the city to which he belonged and because I thought the other neighborhoods of
Dublin vulgar , modern and pretentious " 1 , the Mr. Duffly was a reserved individual ,
stark, eccentric, intolerant of the world and socially maladjusted . Lived in voluntary
exile , doing everything always equal , being methodical. Just ahead we find the part
that says : " He lived in an old and gloomy house . From your window you could see the
abandoned and later , the distillery shallow river on whose banks stands Dublin. "
The house is always psychologically inside the self , ie , if the house is dark , the person
is also means that he was an emotionally empty person, not loved and had no one.
Regarding the window , this is his communication with the world and if the window
there was a disused distillery , may mean that it was a bohemian and is no longer
present and the figure of the river within the text where he drowned all expectations
life, the joys and hopes. Another important element for the analysis are chosen
furniture from one side of the room for the character , made of iron or metal and
black. " He himself chose the furniture : a black iron bedstead, an iron washstand , four
cane chairs , a clothes hanger for wardrobe , a metal box for coal, a sideboard with
fireplace pokers and a double top desk . "3. That means it was a harsh , cold person .
The room Duffly was divided by a white shelf and now analyze another aspect of the
tale , we see another instance of the room : " sharing the room , settled a bookcase cm
white wooden shelves . The covers of his bed were white and a black and red ruffle
covered the foot of the bed . [ ... ] The books on white shelves were arranged
according to the size [ ... ] " .4 White is the absence of color, and this element can be
5. understood as the absence of life, joy in his life . The fact that the covers have black
and red ruffle can be said that : black is the absence of light , but also color of
sensuality , both black and white as it may mean that in the absence of joy and color in
his life there was a latent sexual desire . Love and passion, means disorder, having
seen the person's life , tip your head and maybe he be afraid to surrender to a love .
Books arranged in order of size means that his life was always the same , everything
was routine , had a predictable life , orderly and contuísmo marked by an intense
loneliness.
1 . INTELLECTUAL A LOOK AT THE WORK Joycean
One way to look at the evolution of the character Duffy , is to look at the books he has
. In the tale we find quotations from works in which you could see on the table and
shelves , among them is cited Wordswoth the writer who is a British poet born in the
early nineteenth century in the north of England and was an early English Romantics .
Always been a very popular poet and treated very nature of human relationships . His
poetry had many positive images about life and ways of developing the human mind
from the relationship with nature , but also had negative views . There is a quiet
desperation in much of his poetry. Wordswoth seemed to doubt their own positive
messages . Duffy doubts of his own actions , he has hope but do not believe their own
actions . Maynooth Catechism shows that Duffy is not isolated completely , he still
maintains a religious norm would probably have been studied as a child . He did not
completely loose to the world .
Near the end of the story , however, he adds new books to your bookshelf . Adds two
books of Friedrich Nietzische : " Thus Spake Zarathustra " and " The Gay Science " .
Nietzische was a German philosopher of the late nineteenth century radical thinker
who proposed many negative comments about human nature Later in his life, became
a hermit . In the book , " The Gay Science " , he wrote one of his most famous lines ,
that " God is dead " . The addition to the library of Nietzche Duffly shows that his
withdrawal from society was almost complete , tenuous and that will hold the religion.
He has lost all hope for humanity and have confirmation from all doubts about his life ,
is that it reflects the choice of books .
Now we will do an analysis on the isolation of the character of society . Duffly resides
outside of Dublin , never mentions his family , no friends and lives outside his own
body . All these examples show that he did not belong to any group , even if he does
not feel that is a part of yourself . A superficial view , we can not analyze the facts in
this way , but we can guess that he has had experiences that led him to doubt any
relationship . His face shows these experiences , consider the fragment : " Her face ,
which bore the marks of his years , had the same dark streets of Dublin. In your head ,
wide and long , grew a dry, black hair and whiskers brown hue came not to conceal the
6. harsh words from his mouth . Cheekbones also gave him a hard appearance, there was
no harshness in his eyes , contemplating the world under eyebrows also chestnuts ,
suggested that it was a man always ready to discover the other , redeeming qualities ,
but generally decepcionava . " . Duffy still has the ability to feel connected to
something, but their life experiences leave him in doubt .
His relations with Mrs. Sinico places his hopes in testing . He feels comfortable with
and binds to it , but the passion for it is too much. Your doubts do get away from a
person who cares , who obviously cares for him . When he flees Mrs Sinico , it becomes
clear that he is running away from happiness. Its exterior insulation now matches their
inner insulation . At the end of the story , Duffy feels as if it had no more hope. When
reading the story, we do not have a description of her eyes , but we can say , hope ,
since this came out leaving only disappointment.
2 . HISTORICAL CONTEXT - exposing ITS IMPORTANCE IN WORK
In this tale, the author uses simple language , linking the facts of the narrative so that
the reader becomes attached to this story and the text description makes us feel
present in the scene . Historic basis Europe , Eastern Europe happened the first
socialist revolution in history to succeed in the Russian Empire , the Russian Revolution
of 1917. This revolution took Russia out of the First World War and turned it into a
power until the end of World War II . As a result , some countries of Eastern Europe
adopted the socialist system and joined the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics while
Western Europe was still adopting the capitalist system advocated by the United
States so that the continent is seen split into two opposing blocs during Cold War
division best represented by the Berlin Wall . With the fall of the Soviet Union and the
end of the Cold War in 1989 , Europe went into the path of regional integration with
the European Union, the path followed to the present day with the inclusion of new
members in the block .
