1. No dia a dia é comum usarmos o verbo TER
em vez de HAVER ou EXISTIR. Em inglês o
verbo TER tem o sentido de posse.
EX: TINHA um livro sobre a mesa. (EXISTÊNCIA)
HÁ, EXISTE um livro sobre a mesa. (EXISTÊNCIA)
There was a book on the table.(EXISTÊNCIA)
EX: Eu TINHA um livro. (POSSE)

THERE WERE é usado no PLURAL, ou seja, quando falamos de
VÁRIAS pessoas, objetos, animais ou lugares.
EX:

THERE WAS é usado no SINGULAR, ou seja, quando
falamos de uma pessoa, objeto, animal ou lugar.
EX:

13. Forma Negativa
de THERE TO BE
(past)
Para negar a existência de pessoas, animais,
objetos lugares e etc... acrescentamos not.
Veja:
There was not - não existia
There were not - não existiam

Neste caso, usamos a forma negativa contraída:
There was not = there wasn´t
There were not = there weren´t

16. É bastante comum utilizar o verbo there to be:
• para descrições de ambientes;
• para localizar pontos de referência.
