Este conto conta a história de uma avó que descobre um ladrão escondido debaixo da cama de seu neto. Ao invés de assustar o neto, ela gentilmente convida o ladrão para comer sopa na cozinha. Quando ele revela estar armado, ela consegue enganá-lo e chamar a polícia sem que ele perceba, salvando a si mesma e ao neto.

1. The old woman and
the thieve
(A velha e o ladrão)

2. Once upon a time a granny
who lived alone with her
grandchild.
Era uma vez uma
avozinha que vivia sozinha
com o seu netinho.

3. One day she said to her
grandchild:
- Go get the eggs under the bed.
The grandchild went there but
when he peeked under the bed he
saw a pair of big blue eyes.
Um dia ela disse ao netinho para
ir buscar os ovos debaixo da
cama.
O netinho foi lá mas, assim que
espreitou para debaixo da cama
viu uns olhos azuis grandes a
espreitar.

4. The grandchild had fear and
called his granny to see under
the bed.
O netinho teve medo e chamou
a avó para ir ver.

5. Granny saw and said that shes’s an
old woman who as cold and hungry.
But the granny knew that underneath
the bed was a theef and she doen’s t
want to frighten the granchild.
A avozinha viu e disse que era uma
velha pobrezinha que tinha frio e
fome. Mas a avozinha sabia que era
um ladrão mas não queria assustar
o netinho.

6. The granny invite the theef to go to
the kitchen eat the soup. She saw the
thief hide a big knife
A avozinha convidou o ladrão para vir
há cozinha comer a sopa e viu que
ele tinha escondido uma grande faca
debaixo do casaco.

7. Granny told to the burglar one story that
her father told to her. In middle of the
story she screamed “ HELP HELP”.
A avozinha foi contar ao ladrão uma
história do pai e no meio da história
começou a gritar “ acudam-me, socorro”.

8. The burglar with fear told her to be quiet
because the neighbors could listen her
screeming. She told him that the
neighbors knew the history
O ladrão ficou com medo e disse para a
avozinha baixar a voz porque os vizinhos
a podiam ouvir. E ela respondeu que não
fazia mal porque os vizinhos já conheciam
a história.

9. She
And she shout once again
“HELP HELP”. The neighbors
came nock at the door to ask if
everything is alright.
E voltou a gritar “acudam-me,
socorro “
Até os vizinhos ouviram e
vieram bater à porta e
perguntaram o que se passava.

10. She whispered, like a secret,
there is a thief in my kitchen and
he has a big knife.
E ela disse baixinho, em
segredo, que estava um ladrão
ma sua cozinha com uma faca
grande.

11. The neighbor run to call the
police. They came and took
the thief to the jail.
O vizinho foi a correr chamar
a polícia.
Os polícias vieram e levaram-
no para a prisão.
