3. FIGURES ABOUT BRAZIL
The total land area is 8,349,320 Km2
The current population of Brazil is 209,532,694
Brazil ranks number 5 in the list of most populated
country in the world.
84 % of the population is urban.
Current female population is 50.8%. (106,564,208).
(United Nations, 2016).
4. WOMEN’S EDUCATIONAL CHOICES IN BRAZIL
It is greater female education in higher education in
Brazil , in aspect of freshmen, enrollment and
graduates (INEP, 2016).
Average percentage of entering women in 2013
was 55% in on-graduate courses. On graduating
aspect, the rate was 60%.
Total of 7.2 million registrations, 3.9 million were
women, compared to 3.2 million men. (Brazil,
2013).
5. As metáforas Teto De Vidro e Labirinto De Cristal
representam os obstáculos invisíveis, porém concretos,
que impede a ascensão das mulheres.
Exclusão vertical: sub-representação em postos de
poder e prestígio.
Exclusão horizontal: reduzido número de mulheres em
determinadas áreas do conhecimento.
Transparência do vidro: mesmo não havendo
barreiras formais as dificuldades são reais.
Posição do teto: existe um barreira que permite
transitar até certo ponto.

8. The number of male engineers increased from 103,548 in
2000 to 225,915 in 2014, growth of 118% in the period.
The number of women engineers in the same period went
from 20,253 to 51,784, an increase of 156%.
The growth curve of women in engineering surpasses
that of men. Women grew 32% higher than men in the
period.
9. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS
There is a continuous growth in the participation of
women in engineering.
In Brazil, the participation of women in engineering
increased from 14.4% in 2004 to 16.2% in 2009, as
RAIS 2004-2009.
According to RAIS 2009-2014, the growth of women
in engineering degree reaches 66%.
Although engineering is a traditionally male
profession, which leads women to choose this
profession?
Demand more studies in terms of subjectivity and
objectivity that cover the schooling process and
career choices that particular social group.
