9. Escola Internacional da Madeira is an International education institution with the following classes: Crèche (from 4 months), Nursery (from 2½ and 3 years), Pre-school (4 to 5 years), Primary 1 to 4 (aged 6 to 10). Each class consists of a limited number of pupils. Located in the centre of Funchal, we offer pupils and families an international education focused on preparing children for the future. Escola Internacional da Madeira aims to provide, within a disciplined and caring framework, the educational and social foundations necessary to allow and encourage children to develop their potentialities. The children are guided to develop an appreciation of individual differences and gain a broad perspective on the world as they learn to live in an international society. The pupils of The International School come from a great variety of countries across the globe and begin to discover, as they play together, that in spite of their differences, they are all very much alike.

13. The British School of Madeira opened in September 1980. It is the only international bilingual Portuguese-English school in the Island which is officially recognised by the Regional Educational Authority of Madeira. We are proud of our record and of the traditions we have created. In September 2006 we moved into our new installations in Caminho dos Saltos, Funchal. We now have the ideal facilities and conditions for a 21st century school. The British School of Madeira is a truly international school in terms of its pupil population – 50% Portuguese and at least 16 other different nationalities.
