This is a short preview of a talk I will giving at Agile Testing Days 2014 The rise of Distributed Version Control Systems with good merge support has rehabilitated Feature Branches with many Open Source projects (OSS) receiving contributions as Pull Requests. Feature Branching is a technique where developers do all their changes separate from the mainline of code. Next they open a Pull Request to have their code merged into the mainline after being peer reviewed. This OSS popularity for Pull requests with Git and Mercurial has been transferring to commercial projects, with many teams now adopting it internally. SCM is seen as a Developer centric domain but testers have a lot to gain. This presentation will cover an introduction to Pull Requests and demonstrate how to identify key information that can be used to as inputs to different testing techniques. While not a direct substitute for pairing with a developer, pull requests represent an opportunity to review the code, automated testing and learn from the developers by asking questions. As each Pull Request represents a single User Story this information can help limit the scope of Exploratory based testing sessions and be utilized to further understand the risk of the changes to the system.

I won’t say that feature flagging your database migration will make everything easy, but it will make it easier to test it with real, live data (for a subset of your user base), and much easier to roll it back if something goes wrong. I will explain how you can use feature flags to gradually apply a database migration or schema change, while constantly verifying that the new model passes integrity checks. This ensures that the migration can be applied in a controlled manner, with very little risk.

Slides were used for the session on 'Feature toggles' on ATAGG(2014) Abstract - Is your code Toggled !?! What is Agile? According to Agile manifesto principles, Agile is “Customer satisfaction by rapid delivery of useful software”, “Working software is delivered frequently (weeks rather than months)”. In most of agile teams, multiple features are worked upon by sub-teams in same sprint/iteration. Even though it enables rapid delivery, if not planned well teams may find it challenging to release work of one sub-team while withholding the others. Or worse, release gets delayed as part of work (any single team) is not production-deployable. Rapid delivery by multiple streams becomes unreality as delivery time grows from weeks to months. Generally, most teams use multiple branches to manage this challenge to an extent. This strategy, consumes lot of time in integration & regression testing cycles every sprint. Could there be better solution? What if we could save the time we spend on these regression cycles? Think of solution where there is single branch to commit to, and everything is released to staging/production, but features are ”Toggled” depending on their usability/need. This talk explores a concept called “Feature Toggles” and how it could help us make test cycles short. Talk emphasizes on effectively managing multiple streams, without delaying the delivery of software. It mainly focuses on various useful techniques (Branching, Feature Toggles etc.) which can help agile teams with multiple sub-teams to efficiently manage their codebase & releases to achieve faster delivery.

So till the time the entire story is ready to be released the feature is marked as “switched off”. So though everything that is being developed is in the trunk but it is not visible and is not executed till the time it is “switched on”. There is a lot more to feature toggles and this session will allow you to think away from the conventional approach of Branching and Merging and move towards CI/CD efficiently.

These concerns have prompted calls for comprehensive regulations to ensure the safe and equitable use of AI technologies. Artificial intelligence has also played a significant role in healthcare, particularly highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was used in drug discovery, vaccine development, and analyzing the spread of the virus. The capabilities of AI in healthcare are vast, ranging from medical diagnostics to personalized medicine, demonstrating the technology's potential to revolutionize fields beyond just technical or consumer applications. In conclusion, AI continues to be a rapidly evolving field with significant implications for various aspects of society.
