  • 2. What to expect  No textbook  Review Quizzes on Weeks 6, 11, and 16  Individual interviews Weeks 17 and 18  Grading: Assignments 60%, Quizzes 25% Final Interview 15%  Assignments mean come to class and do stuff.   Keep your handouts for reviews.

Good Conversation  Good conversation means active listening  Good conversation is sharing  Good conversation isn’t selfish  Good conversation is helping  Active listening needs focus  For just two hours a week, do your best to focus on what’s in front of you.  Your attendance is counted when I see your phone in the holder.  Try to practice “TIL” What is good conversation?

  • 5. Review Describing Look Feel Smell Sound Taste  Use look, feel, etc. + adjective He looks sad. This tastes terrible! She smells awful.  Use look, feel, etc. + like + noun He looks like you. This tastes like dog. She smells like poop.  Use look, feel, etc. + as if + clause He looks as if he wants to leave. This feels as if it will end soon.

  • 10. Find Someone Who... Take the worksheets and write the name of someone who agrees with the question. You can only write one person for each question. Remember: “How do you spell...?” Take your time - let the conversation happen.  Remember follow-up questions!  Always have a question ready.  If you can’t think of anything, the best question is:
  • 11. Now Try Something Else Take a lanyard and a new ID card. Talk to as many people as you can, but also be careful to remember as much as you can about them. Do’s and Don’ts Do ask questions Don’t look at each other’s cards!

What do you do if a conversation slows down? 5. Earlier in the class, you spoke with your classmates. Find two of them and tell them what you remember. 6. Return the lanyard and ID cards. 7.
