3. Task of defining the research problem is the preparation
of the research project, popularly known as the
‘’research design”.
Decisions regarding what, where, when, how much,
by what means concerning an inquiry or a
research study constitute a research design.
4. The preparation of such design facilitates research to
be as efficient as possible yielding maximal
information . In other words , the function of
research of research design is to provide for the
collection of relevant evidence with minimal
expenditure of effort, time and money.
5. The design which minimise bias and maximise the
reliability of data collected and analysed is considered
a good design.
Though there are following factors which are
considered in a good design:-
The means of obtaining information .
The availability and skills of the researcher and his
staff, if any;
6. The objective of the problem to be studied;
The nature of the problem to be studied; and
The availability of time and money for the research
work.
7. Research design in case of exploratory
studies
Research design in case of descriptive and
diagnostic research studies
Research design in case of hypothesis-
testing research studies
8. Exploratory research method are also termed as
formulative research method.
The main purpose is that of formulate the research
problem there are three methods:-
i. The survey of concerning literature
ii. The experience survey
iii. The analysis of ‘insight – stimulating’
9. The most simple and fruitful method of formulating the
research problem or developing hypothesis.
Hypothesis stated by earlier workers may be reviewed
and their usefulness be evaluated as a basis for further
research. The already stated hypothesis suggest new
hypothesis. The researcher should review and build
upon the work already done by others.
10. Experience survey means the survey of people who
have had practical experience with the problem to be
studied.
The object of such survey is to obtain insight into the
relationship between variable and new ideas relating
to research problem.
11. It is also a fruitful method of suggesting the
hypothesis . It is particularly suitable in the areas
where there is little experience to serve as a guide.
In this method the existing records may be examined.
12. In case of descriptive research study determine one
those studied which are concerned with describing the
characteristics of a particular individual or a group.
In diagnostic research study determine the frequency
which something occur or its association with
something else.
The design should be rigid and not flexible.
13. a) Formulating the objective of the study.
b) Designing the method of data collection.
c) Selecting the sample.
d) Collection the data.
e) Processing and analysing the data.
f) Report the finding.
14. It is generally known as experimental studies
It is a research studies where the researcher tests the
hypotheses of casual relationships between variables.
Such studies require procedure that will not only
reduce bias and increase reliability , but will permit
drawing inference about causality .
