Celebrity Records 
What not to do: 
• Look at medical records 
• Release personal 
information to anyone 
• Tell fiends or family a 
celebrity is at the hospital 
• When in doubt ask a 
supervisor 
What to do: 
• Let a supervisor know if 
someone is looking at 
records 
• If confronted by someone 
to release information 
report to a supervisor 
• If asked by friends or family 
explain you cannot discuss 
patients
Patient Confidentiality 
• When a person is a patient he or she receives the same care 
and consideration whether a celebrity or not 
• Only the medical staff dealing with the patient needs to know 
any medical information 
• You cannot look up a patients records without reason to do so 
• It is your job to provide professional care to each patient
Why Provide Patient Confidentiality 
Not following patient 
confidentiality 
• Employees who do not 
uphold the law will be 
terminated and prosecuted 
• The health care organization 
receives a bad name from 
the public 
• People will not trust the 
organization respects 
patient confidentiality 
Following patient confidentiality 
• Employees are seen as 
professional law abiding 
people 
• Employees are following 
laws and organizational 
policy 
• People will trust the 
organization stands true to 
patient confidentiality
One Job 
• As health care workers one must uphold all laws, regulations, 
and policies 
• The patients health and well-being are number one 
• Patients are patients regardless of celebrity status 
• Each patient deserves to be treated with respect and dignity
