comparative advantage Essay
The theory of comparative advantage is perhaps the most important concept in international trade
theory. As the economies that exist in our world our becoming increasingly more intertwined, it is
becoming even more important. Nearly every country in the world depends on other countries to
supply them with goods that they cannot produce in their own country. I believe that comparative in
necessary in today's economy. In this paper I am going to discuss comparative advantage and it's
effect on globalization.
The idea of comparative advantage dates back to the early 19th century. The model that is used to
describe the theory is known as the "Ricardian Model". David Ricardo believed...show more

"If a foreign country can supply us with a commodity cheaper than we ourselves can make it,
better buy it of them with some part of the produce of our own industry, employed in a way in
which we have some advantage"(BookIV, Sectionii, 12). In other words if country can import a
good at a lower then it would cost to produce, the country should import the good. Comparative
advantage and advantageous advantage do not contradict each other. Both theories are based on the
same principle. Free trade is a very important principle in both theories. In the example using
Portugal and England both countries would benefit from free trade.
The primary issue in the model by Ricardo is what happens when each country moves from autarky
(no trade) to free trade with the other country. What are the consequences from trade going to be?
The most important things that we care about are trade's effects on the prices the goods in each
country, the production level of the goods, employment levels in each industry, the pattern of trade,
consumption levels, wages and incomes, and the welfare effects.
Using Ricardo's model it shows that in autarky, each country will produce some of each good.
Because of technology differences, relative prices of the two goods will differ between countries.
Workers in the technologically advanced country will enjoy a higher standard of living than in the
technologically inferior country. The reason

Essay 1 The methods of political control used by the Han and Imperial Roman Empires were
different, as in the degree of citizen participation in government because of how each empire
utilized it to control the people. However, the use of theologies to justify rule was a similar
method used by the two empires because it allowed leaders to win over the people in more ways
than one. In addition, the use of militaries to control the population and outlying territories was a
similar method because the empires were so vast and diverse that force was needed to control
people. The Romans and the Han had different views on government and who should participate in
it. The Romans allowed a Senate to be elected, although only certain people could...show more

In India, seperate smaller monarchies would constantly battle until unified under the Mauryan
Empire. But, after the Mauryans fell, India became fragmented again, thus re–emphasizing the need
for an emperor. In both places, they fought and bickered in and amongst themselves until the ruler
came around to unify them. The single ruler figured as a method of political control in both
empires because the emperor made most of the decisions about the law, about taxation, and
various other political aspects of the region. In other words, this one strong political figure ran
the country mostly on his own. Both empires had similar provincial administration due to the vast
territory of both empires. News from Rome or Pataliputra would take at least days. Each empire
had far reaching territories such as Egypt and Cappadocia in Rome, and Punjab and Bengal in
Gupta, could me up to 1,000 miles away from the capital. The began to use this provincial
administration to keep this under control because of the slow time it would take to ride 1,000 miles
out to Cappadocia to deliver news from the emperor. Also, in both empires high–ranking officials or
friends of the emperor would serve as a sort of "governor". They would be a mini–emperor for a
specific region of the empire and report to the ruler what he needed. Different, though, was the
control of religion in the two empires, because they had different views on religion as a tool

professional counselors. I will be discussing their similarities and differences in their professional
careers; Based on their professional identity, approach to therapy orientation, work setting as well
as discussing unique experiences they have encountered. The interview experience was very
insightful in understanding the work environment for counselors across the board is very
diverse. Moreover, it was a great incredulity to my ignorance of the daily duties of a counselor on

licensure and outlook in their field. Licenses The first interviewee was Mrs. Jennifer Elliot. She
holds a professional counselor license (LPC). In addition, she holds a Temporary Masters level
psychologist level license(TLMLP) from Kansas state. She describes the TLMPL as a temporary
licensure when anticipating to take nationally standardized competency exam (EPPP). It was very
interesting and quit a surprise to encounter a master's level psychologist. She explained that her
degree and licensure enable her to do psychological testing, the whole level from selecting

Comparative Rhetorical Analysis
Throughout the course English 101, I believe my writing skills have improved through
understanding concepts such as rhetorical situation, purpose, audience, ethos, pathos, logos, and
rhetorical analysis. Looking back at the semester, I reflect on my strengths and weaknesses. My
strengths include my note taking skills and being attentive during class. Doing this, I was later able
to use these notes to look back at while writing, which I found very useful. For example, for the essay
Comparative Rhetorical Analysis, I took note of almost every piece of information Dr. Braun gave
us, writing in the margins of the articles and highlighting important phrases. Because of this, writing
came very easily to me not only for that essay but also others,

Essay On Comparative Literature
Even though Comparative literature is established as a discipline very recently, we could trace its
origin from time immemorial. It is almost impossible to speak about a text without mentioning
another. In The Preface to Shakespeare, as Dr. Johnson expresses "without the knowledge of many
mountains, and many rivers; so in the productions of genius, nothing can be styled excellent till it
has been compared with other works of the same kind." Comparative literature deals with all the
elements with which the literary text interacts without any confinement. It studies the interactions of
a literary text with other texts from other cultures, from other national literatures, from other times,
from other spaces. In this respect, it is open and...show more content...
Generally, we, first start reading the text and then we arrive at comparison. We start comparing that
text with another that has similarities and dissimilarities. Comparative Literature which included the
consideration of more than one literature was in circulation in Europe in the nineteenth century.
Comparative Literature is different from national literature, general literature and world literature. It
was begun as "Literature Compare" in 1860 in Germany. And Comparative literature got recognition
as a study in 1897. In 1848, Matthew Arnold had used this term "Comparative Literature "for the
first time in English. He defines this term. He

A Means of Existence
How do experiences, good or bad, shape the identity of an individual and make them stand apart
from others? In the award winning novel A Complicated Kindness, by Miriam Toews and the
classic best seller Anne of Green Gables, by L.M Montgomery, the struggle and desire to find
personal identity is profound. Through a series of experiences, the main characters in each novel, one
a rebellious Mennonite and the other a red headed orphan, are forced to look within themselves and
realize one of the most commonly asked question, "who am I?" As both Nomi and Anne grow
internally, not only do they find gratification for themselves, but they also allow others to be set free
in the same way. From the beginning of the book to the...show more content...
Through Matthew's death, Anne realizes her full potential and the meaning of her life. Death of life
is a shared experience in both A Complicated Kindness and Anne of Green Gables. Although death
of life affects many of the characters in the novels, it mainly affects Nomi and Anne, who take
their mourning and use it to grow. Because of this death, both characters make life changing
decisions; Nomi decides to leave her community in East Village and Anne decides to refuse her
scholarship at Queens University and stay home with Marilla, her mother figure. Finally, death of
religion defines Nomi as a person when she is unable to follow her religion, "People here just
can't wait to die, it seems. It's the main event. The only reason we're not all snuffed at birth is
because that would reduce our suffering by a lifetime. But I'll have no part of that", (5, Toews).
As a Mennonite, Nomi is expected to follow her religion. One important part of religion to
Mennonites is the thought of afterlife, which as Nomi states, is all people seem to be living for.
However, instead of following the pessimistic outlooks that people have on life, Nomi decides to
rebel against her religion and live her life how she pleases. In Anne of Green Gables, the death of
religion can be seen progressing Anne's identity through her decision to turn her back on the Catholic
faith, "Anne hoped that tears would come in solitude...she found it hard to

The Great Gatsby Comparative Essay
The central antagonist of Fitzgerald's Jazz Age classic, Jay Gatsby, is revealed to the reader
throughout the novel, creating a sense of mystery around his character, his past and his future. The
quasi – fantastical pictorial of the same name, by Greenberg, also follows this reveal, portraying
Gatsby's world and evoking a lingering curiosity. Initially, in bothnovel and graphic novel, the
reader is set up to expect the worst. In the introduction of the novel by Fitzgerald, Nick states ' No–

of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interests in the abortive sorrows and short winded

Fitzgerald does not, however, describe the physical characteristics of Gatsby. This allows the reader
to understand that he is a plot device, and his dreams serve a larger purpose in the story.
Gatsby's infatuation with the green glowing light in the distance maintains the mystery
surrounding his character. Fitzgerald uses this as a tool to enhance the readers understanding that
Gatsby has a goal and ambition, although it is unknown at the time. Greenburg's interpretation
promotes the thought that Gatsby is almost worshiping the light, and is investing all of him into
his quest. This symbol of hope is explained in the final chapter of Fitzgerald's novel, comparing
Gatsby's green light to the "green breast of the new world", with the suggestion that Gatsby's
dream is tarnished by his material possessions. Gatsby dreams, yet does not realize that his
dreams are unworthy of him. Gatsby invests Daisy with an idealistic perfection that she cannot
possibly attain in reality and pursues her with a passionate zeal that blinds him to her limitations.
This is represented by Greenberg in the detailed view of daisy's past and the emphasis placed on her
imperfection. Daisy's past, in the hospital giving birth and before her wedding day show her real
emotion, however the reader is pulled back into her facade after only a few small yet

Essay about Compare and Contrast Gender Roles
BATTLE OF THE SEXES
Long gone are the days when women were expected to stay at home and play "housewife",
cooking, cleaning, and making sure the kids got off to school, while their husbands worked a 9 to
5 in order to make ends meet. Today, women are no longer viewed as weak and incapable. A
"superwoman" is the new woman. Men as the "breadwinners" have been replaced by "Ms.
Independent." The traditional male role has diminished as women fulfill bigger roles in society and
exceed the expectations of their male counterparts in the household, workforce, and within social
settings. We have abandoned old rules; no longer is it a "man's world," we now live in a shared world.
Nowadays, there are no specific roles assigned to a male or a female...show more content...
While the average earnings for women still lag behind those of men, the March "Women at Work"
report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), revealed that the gender wage gap continues to
narrow. Women earned 81 cents for every dollar earned by men in 2010, up from 76 cents in
2000. Many attribute this to the higher college graduation rates of women. Women are gaining
numbers in various fields of work and the perceptions of their fellow male colleagues are even
changing. Captain Purnell Richardson, of the Baltimore City Police Department remembers a
time when women were once viewed as inferior to men in the police field. "The women of the
force were like the social workers. They took all the calls and did all the paper work at one point
in time. They were even given a little bit of lead way in the Academy. The guys had to do 50
pushups and the women only had to do 30. But now a day's some of these women have more
heart than the men. They are quick to draw their weapon and they will have your back. We have
some tough women in our force." Crystal Kidd is a Lieutenant with the Baltimore Police
Department, she says, "You have to make a name for yourself in the force. I like when I hear
people say they don't like me or I'm a bitch. To me that just means I am doing my job. I have a zero
tolerance for nonsense and that is the only way you will get respect around here. Some

Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories––
Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift
There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift
and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both
similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their
inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these
stories are alike and distinct.
In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words

the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and
suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be
trusted by Billy.
In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different
perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator,
mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less
remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good
example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's
shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of
writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the
story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also,
another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in
other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because

Men vs Women (Compare and Contrast) Essays
As the age old saying goes, "Men Are from Mars, Women are from Venus". The conflicting views of
men and women have been questioned for centuries, noting how men and women differ in emotion,
affection, and communication.
Women tend to be more emotional and rational then men, whereas men are far less emotional and
react on impulse. The different understanding of the ways that each sex communicates is still to be
studied. Women tend to react more emotionally than men, resulting in submerging themselves, mind
body and soul into making decisions. Meanwhile men, impulsively react to situations for the sake of
having a reason to do so. Men see women as less competent to making decisions that involve a lot of
thought, and this is due to women's...show more content...
When the opposite sex does not understand the other on a certain issue, problems and disagreements
arise. When one person has disentanglement in views, everyone involved is affected because people
tend to feel misconstrued in what they believe is right. This is a significant problem because, if men
and women cannot understand each other, the essence of communication is lost on many levels, in
terms of the work place, love, life, and as well as affairs. Miscommunication in relationships is often
a result of breakups and unhealthy relationships. Women are often much more affected by the ways
that men communicate and resolve issues. Fighting in relationships is a representation of not fully
understanding your mate. People in relationships argue all the time and those arguments are usually
based on a misunderstanding. Women often say that they do not understand men, and men don't
understand women. They try to understand deeper, rather then remaining at the surface of the
problem. The emotional differences of men and women vary in temperaments of emotion which
indicates a disconnection in communication, moral motivation, stereotypes, and chemical reactions
in the brain. Men's and women's emotional outlooks are viewed by stereotypes. Men are usually
the more aggressive sex, and women are usually the more passive sex. Men are seen as the more
sexual gender, and that they solely want sex. Our

I am going to compare two articles about medical testing on animals. One is a newspaper article

The picture of Polly Toynbee in the article from the Guardian does not affect the argument and in
my opinion serves no purpose because it has no relevance to the topic of the article. The picture on
the front of the Animal Aid leaflet has the purpose of showing how animals suffer during and after
they have been put through a series of test that harm them. I think it is a very powerful image and
supports the leaflets objective. The other two images on the reverse side of the Animal Aid leaflet
have the same affect as the main image on the front. They both portray the suffering of animals
during and after harmful tests. Again I think they are very powerful and they support the objectives
of the leaflet.
'It's a crying shame' is the title for the Animal Aid. It links in with the picture on the front because
the dog seems to be crying. The two combined are very powerful and create a sympathetic attitude
for the reader so they are more likely to agree and donate. The words 'shame' does not represent
anger towards the persons who carry out the medical tests, it is a calm word so it makes you
sympathise towards the animals. It meets its purpose of making the reader pity the animals. The
other two on the reverse of the leaflet serve the same purpose as the main image on the front.

Text/Media Comparative Essay People are the way they are due to many elements. Where they
live, who they are surrounded by, and life experiences that they encounter are all factors that plays a
role in who they are as a person. Although humans can be very different from one another, humans
can also be similar in other ways. No matter what background someone has or how well they are
doing financially, there are two things that all humans have. Ambition and desire. Playwright,
William Shakespeare, introduces several characters who are willing to take unimaginable risks to
obtain success to their desires in his famous play, Macbeth. Characters Scar from The Lion King and
Macbeth are fine examples of characters who are unable to stop their ambition and desire from
taking impulsive actions. Scar and Macbeth are similar characters as they are both with a corrupt
mindset as shown through their treatment of others, and their betrayal towards those who are loyal
to them.
Although The Lion King and Macbeth seems like two different stories. One is set in the
medieval era while the other is set in postmodernity, but both displays the similarities of the
character's strategic battle for power. Scar, known as the villain in the movie, The Lion King,
committed selfish acts to fulfill his distorted desires. As Simba was at the edge of the cliff, about
to be murdered by Scar, Scar snarled at him, "That [is] the way your father looked before I killed
him" (The Lion King). Simba leaped up from the side of the cliff, and pushed Scar to the ground
demanding him to confess to his crime of killing the king, his father, Mufasa. This quote proves
that Scar's ambition leads him to do ruthless acts, wanting to kill Simba, who was next in line of the
throne. These malevolent plots are what fuels the battle of evil against the good. Scar stated to his
three murders, the Hyenas, "We [are] going to kill him. And Simba, too" (The Lion King). In the
movie, The Lion King, shows that Scar is resentful of the king, Mufasa, and the power he retains. In
this quote, he plans a plot on who he wants to kill with the three hyenas to help him finish the deed,
which shows his strong ambitions. Another

1.What is the comparative method, and how is it useful for understanding variance between and
among the states? The comparative method is used to compare and contrast the structure of
governments between states. An example of the comparative method is dogs in West Virginia are

  • 1. comparative advantage Essay The theory of comparative advantage is perhaps the most important concept in international trade theory. As the economies that exist in our world our becoming increasingly more intertwined, it is becoming even more important. Nearly every country in the world depends on other countries to supply them with goods that they cannot produce in their own country. I believe that comparative in necessary in today's economy. In this paper I am going to discuss comparative advantage and it's effect on globalization. The idea of comparative advantage dates back to the early 19th century. The model that is used to describe the theory is known as the "Ricardian Model". David Ricardo believed...show more content... "If a foreign country can supply us with a commodity cheaper than we ourselves can make it, better buy it of them with some part of the produce of our own industry, employed in a way in which we have some advantage"(BookIV, Sectionii, 12). In other words if country can import a good at a lower then it would cost to produce, the country should import the good. Comparative advantage and advantageous advantage do not contradict each other. Both theories are based on the same principle. Free trade is a very important principle in both theories. In the example using Portugal and England both countries would benefit from free trade. The primary issue in the model by Ricardo is what happens when each country moves from autarky (no trade) to free trade with the other country. What are the consequences from trade going to be? The most important things that we care about are trade's effects on the prices the goods in each country, the production level of the goods, employment levels in each industry, the pattern of trade, consumption levels, wages and incomes, and the welfare effects. Using Ricardo's model it shows that in autarky, each country will produce some of each good. Because of technology differences, relative prices of the two goods will differ between countries. Workers in the technologically advanced country will enjoy a higher standard of living than in the technologically inferior country. The reason Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Comparative Essay Examples Essay 1 The methods of political control used by the Han and Imperial Roman Empires were different, as in the degree of citizen participation in government because of how each empire utilized it to control the people. However, the use of theologies to justify rule was a similar method used by the two empires because it allowed leaders to win over the people in more ways than one. In addition, the use of militaries to control the population and outlying territories was a similar method because the empires were so vast and diverse that force was needed to control people. The Romans and the Han had different views on government and who should participate in it. The Romans allowed a Senate to be elected, although only certain people could...show more content... In India, seperate smaller monarchies would constantly battle until unified under the Mauryan Empire. But, after the Mauryans fell, India became fragmented again, thus re–emphasizing the need for an emperor. In both places, they fought and bickered in and amongst themselves until the ruler came around to unify them. The single ruler figured as a method of political control in both empires because the emperor made most of the decisions about the law, about taxation, and various other political aspects of the region. In other words, this one strong political figure ran the country mostly on his own. Both empires had similar provincial administration due to the vast territory of both empires. News from Rome or Pataliputra would take at least days. Each empire had far reaching territories such as Egypt and Cappadocia in Rome, and Punjab and Bengal in Gupta, could me up to 1,000 miles away from the capital. The began to use this provincial administration to keep this under control because of the slow time it would take to ride 1,000 miles out to Cappadocia to deliver news from the emperor. Also, in both empires high–ranking officials or friends of the emperor would serve as a sort of "governor". They would be a mini–emperor for a specific region of the empire and report to the ruler what he needed. Different, though, was the control of religion in the two empires, because they had different views on religion as a tool Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Comparative Rhetorical Analysis Throughout the course English 101, I believe my writing skills have improved through understanding concepts such as rhetorical situation, purpose, audience, ethos, pathos, logos, and rhetorical analysis. Looking back at the semester, I reflect on my strengths and weaknesses. My strengths include my note taking skills and being attentive during class. Doing this, I was later able to use these notes to look back at while writing, which I found very useful. For example, for the essay Comparative Rhetorical Analysis, I took note of almost every piece of information Dr. Braun gave us, writing in the margins of the articles and highlighting important phrases. It is almost impossible to speak about a text without mentioning another. In The Preface to Shakespeare, as Dr. Johnson expresses "without the knowledge of many mountains, and many rivers; so in the productions of genius, nothing can be styled excellent till it has been compared with other works of the same kind." In the award winning novel A Complicated Kindness, by Miriam Toews and the classic best seller Anne of Green Gables, by L.M Montgomery, the struggle and desire to find personal identity is profound. Through a series of experiences, the main characters in each novel, one a rebellious Mennonite and the other a red headed orphan, are forced to look within themselves and realize one of the most commonly asked question, "who am I?" As both Nomi and Anne grow internally, not only do they find gratification for themselves, but they also allow others to be set free in the same way. From the beginning of the book to the...show more content... Through Matthew's death, Anne realizes her full potential and the meaning of her life. Death of life is a shared experience in both A Complicated Kindness and Anne of Green Gables. Although death of life affects many of the characters in the novels, it mainly affects Nomi and Anne, who take their mourning and use it to grow. Because of this death, both characters make life changing decisions; Nomi decides to leave her community in East Village and Anne decides to refuse her scholarship at Queens University and stay home with Marilla, her mother figure. Finally, death of religion defines Nomi as a person when she is unable to follow her religion, "People here just can't wait to die, it seems. It's the main event. The only reason we're not all snuffed at birth is because that would reduce our suffering by a lifetime. But I'll have no part of that", (5, Toews). As a Mennonite, Nomi is expected to follow her religion. One important part of religion to Mennonites is the thought of afterlife, which as Nomi states, is all people seem to be living for. However, instead of following the pessimistic outlooks that people have on life, Nomi decides to rebel against her religion and live her life how she pleases. In Anne of Green Gables, the death of religion can be seen progressing Anne's identity through her decision to turn her back on the Catholic faith, "Anne hoped that tears would come in solitude...she found it hard to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 11. The Great Gatsby Comparative Essay The central antagonist of Fitzgerald's Jazz Age classic, Jay Gatsby, is revealed to the reader throughout the novel, creating a sense of mystery around his character, his past and his future. The quasi – fantastical pictorial of the same name, by Greenberg, also follows this reveal, portraying Gatsby's world and evoking a lingering curiosity. Initially, in bothnovel and graphic novel, the reader is set up to expect the worst. In the introduction of the novel by Fitzgerald, Nick states ' No– Gatsby turned out alright in the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interests in the abortive sorrows and short winded elations of men.' This introduction creates a...show more content... Fitzgerald does not, however, describe the physical characteristics of Gatsby. This allows the reader to understand that he is a plot device, and his dreams serve a larger purpose in the story. Gatsby's infatuation with the green glowing light in the distance maintains the mystery surrounding his character. Fitzgerald uses this as a tool to enhance the readers understanding that Gatsby has a goal and ambition, although it is unknown at the time. Greenburg's interpretation promotes the thought that Gatsby is almost worshiping the light, and is investing all of him into his quest. This symbol of hope is explained in the final chapter of Fitzgerald's novel, comparing Gatsby's green light to the "green breast of the new world", with the suggestion that Gatsby's dream is tarnished by his material possessions. Gatsby dreams, yet does not realize that his dreams are unworthy of him. Gatsby invests Daisy with an idealistic perfection that she cannot possibly attain in reality and pursues her with a passionate zeal that blinds him to her limitations. This is represented by Greenberg in the detailed view of daisy's past and the emphasis placed on her imperfection. Essay about Compare and Contrast Gender Roles BATTLE OF THE SEXES Long gone are the days when women were expected to stay at home and play "housewife", cooking, cleaning, and making sure the kids got off to school, while their husbands worked a 9 to 5 in order to make ends meet. Today, women are no longer viewed as weak and incapable. A "superwoman" is the new woman. Men as the "breadwinners" have been replaced by "Ms. Independent." The traditional male role has diminished as women fulfill bigger roles in society and exceed the expectations of their male counterparts in the household, workforce, and within social settings. We have abandoned old rules; no longer is it a "man's world," we now live in a shared world. Nowadays, there are no specific roles assigned to a male or a female...show more content... While the average earnings for women still lag behind those of men, the March "Women at Work" report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), revealed that the gender wage gap continues to narrow. Women earned 81 cents for every dollar earned by men in 2010, up from 76 cents in 2000. Many attribute this to the higher college graduation rates of women. Women are gaining numbers in various fields of work and the perceptions of their fellow male colleagues are even changing. Captain Purnell Richardson, of the Baltimore City Police Department remembers a time when women were once viewed as inferior to men in the police field. "The women of the force were like the social workers. They took all the calls and did all the paper work at one point in time. They were even given a little bit of lead way in the Academy. The guys had to do 50 pushups and the women only had to do 30. But now a day's some of these women have more heart than the men. They are quick to draw their weapon and they will have your back. We have some tough women in our force." Crystal Kidd is a Lieutenant with the Baltimore Police Department, she says, "You have to make a name for yourself in the force. I like when I hear people say they don't like me or I'm a bitch. To me that just means I am doing my job. I have a zero tolerance for nonsense and that is the only way you will get respect around here. Some Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 14. Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories–– Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these stories are alike and distinct. In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words ...show more content... In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was 'terribly nice',which he was quite grateful to have such a nice landlady who give him a well–appointed service, but as the conversations go on, Billy was then frightened by her weird and creepy contents, he 'sat there staring straight ahead of him into the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be trusted by Billy. In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator, mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also, another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Men vs Women (Compare and Contrast) Essays As the age old saying goes, "Men Are from Mars, Women are from Venus". The conflicting views of men and women have been questioned for centuries, noting how men and women differ in emotion, affection, and communication. Women tend to be more emotional and rational then men, whereas men are far less emotional and react on impulse. The different understanding of the ways that each sex communicates is still to be studied. Women tend to react more emotionally than men, resulting in submerging themselves, mind body and soul into making decisions. Meanwhile men, impulsively react to situations for the sake of having a reason to do so. Men see women as less competent to making decisions that involve a lot of thought, and this is due to women's...show more content... When the opposite sex does not understand the other on a certain issue, problems and disagreements arise. When one person has disentanglement in views, everyone involved is affected because people tend to feel misconstrued in what they believe is right. This is a significant problem because, if men and women cannot understand each other, the essence of communication is lost on many levels, in terms of the work place, love, life, and as well as affairs. Miscommunication in relationships is often a result of breakups and unhealthy relationships. Women are often much more affected by the ways that men communicate and resolve issues. Fighting in relationships is a representation of not fully understanding your mate. People in relationships argue all the time and those arguments are usually based on a misunderstanding. Women often say that they do not understand men, and men don't understand women. They try to understand deeper, rather then remaining at the surface of the problem. The emotional differences of men and women vary in temperaments of emotion which indicates a disconnection in communication, moral motivation, stereotypes, and chemical reactions in the brain. Men's and women's emotional outlooks are viewed by stereotypes. Men are usually the more aggressive sex, and women are usually the more passive sex. Men are seen as the more sexual gender, and that they solely want sex. Our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. A Comparison of Two Media Texts Essay A Comparison of Two Media Texts I am going to compare two articles about medical testing on animals. One is a newspaper article written by Polly Toynbee and is called 'Sorry, but I think dying people are more important than dumb animals,' this was published in the Guardian. The other is a leaflet with the title 'It's a crying shame' which is design for animal aid. The Guardian news article is for medical testing on animals. The Animal Aid is against medical testing on animals. Both texts are aimed at the general public who are old enough to have an educated opinion. The newspaper article taken from the Guardian is very basic and is set out like a typical newspaper article would be. The image used...show more content... The picture of Polly Toynbee in the article from the Guardian does not affect the argument and in my opinion serves no purpose because it has no relevance to the topic of the article. The picture on the front of the Animal Aid leaflet has the purpose of showing how animals suffer during and after they have been put through a series of test that harm them. I think it is a very powerful image and supports the leaflets objective. The other two images on the reverse side of the Animal Aid leaflet have the same affect as the main image on the front. They both portray the suffering of animals during and after harmful tests. Again I think they are very powerful and they support the objectives of the leaflet. 'It's a crying shame' is the title for the Animal Aid. It links in with the picture on the front because the dog seems to be crying. The two combined are very powerful and create a sympathetic attitude for the reader so they are more likely to agree and donate. The words 'shame' does not represent anger towards the persons who carry out the medical tests, it is a calm word so it makes you sympathise towards the animals. It meets its purpose of making the reader pity the animals. The other two on the reverse of the leaflet serve the same purpose as the main image on the front. The image from the Guardian article does not relate to medical testing on animals because images of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Compare And Contrast The Lion King And Macbeth Cherrys Hu Ms. Leonardi ENG3U–06 17 12 20 Text/Media Comparative Essay People are the way they are due to many elements. Where they live, who they are surrounded by, and life experiences that they encounter are all factors that plays a role in who they are as a person. Although humans can be very different from one another, humans can also be similar in other ways. No matter what background someone has or how well they are doing financially, there are two things that all humans have. Ambition and desire. Playwright, William Shakespeare, introduces several characters who are willing to take unimaginable risks to obtain success to their desires in his famous play, Macbeth. Characters Scar from The Lion King and Macbeth are fine examples of characters who are unable to stop their ambition and desire from taking impulsive actions. Scar and Macbeth are similar characters as they are both with a corrupt mindset as shown through their treatment of others, and their betrayal towards those who are loyal to them. Although The Lion King and Macbeth seems like two different stories. One is set in the medieval era while the other is set in postmodernity, but both displays the similarities of the character's strategic battle for power. Scar, known as the villain in the movie, The Lion King, committed selfish acts to fulfill his distorted desires. As Simba was at the edge of the cliff, about to be murdered by Scar, Scar snarled at him, "That [is] the way your father looked before I killed him" (The Lion King). Simba leaped up from the side of the cliff, and pushed Scar to the ground demanding him to confess to his crime of killing the king, his father, Mufasa. This quote proves that Scar's ambition leads him to do ruthless acts, wanting to kill Simba, who was next in line of the throne. These malevolent plots are what fuels the battle of evil against the good. Scar stated to his three murders, the Hyenas, "We [are] going to kill him. And Simba, too" (The Lion King). In the movie, The Lion King, shows that Scar is resentful of the king, Mufasa, and the power he retains. In this quote, he plans a plot on who he wants to kill with the three hyenas to help him finish the deed, which shows his strong ambitions. Another Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The comparative method is used to compare and contrast the structure of governments between states. An example of the comparative method is dogs in West Virginia are taxed, compared to Nebraska where dogs are licensed. Variance is the difference between the measurable units. Noting the differences among city limits governments, such as, Apopka to Altamonte, Altamonte to Winter Park, Winter Park to Orlando, Orlando to Tampa and so forth. Marking the differences between states– i.e. Florida to Alabama is determining the variance laws from state to state. 2.Compare and contrast the three types of political culture.
