Causes And Effects Of College Dropouts
Causes and Effects of College Dropouts
Life is believed to be easier for people with higher degrees than for those without higher degrees.
Hence, it is the joy of parents to see their children admitted into a higher institution. With the high
cost attached to attending a four year university, most students prefer to attend community colleges.
Community colleges provide the same quality of education offered by universities for the first two
years at a lower cost which help students reduce debts toward getting their higher degree. However,
compared to the number of students who started their first year in community colleges, a large
percentage dropped out. This is common to both freshly graduated high school students and adults
who came back to college to obtain a degree. Students drop out of colleges because of financial
issues and the need to take remedial courses. As a result, they have self esteem issues and may
remain poor.
Students drop out of colleges because of financial issues. Although some students get financial aid, it
is not enough to pay for the expenses attached to getting a college degree. Students need money to
buy textbooks which are highly expensive. Most courses required assignments to be taken online in
which students must purchase a pass code. They also need money to pay their bills, take
transportation to schools, and buy other items for personal needs. Due to financial constraint, most
students have to work in addition to attending school. Students get

When a person drops out of high school, there are many reasons behind their decision. Whether it is
a matter of not having enough money to attend high school, or the person just does not have the
desire to attend. Behind all these apprehensions, there are many people suffering since they
abandoned high school. In Sanchez's article, "A High School Dropout's Midlife Hardships," he
reveals the hardships of a high school dropout. Kenny Buchanan, a 44–year old from Pennsylvania,
withdrew from high school when he was 18. At that time, he was only in the ninth grade because he
had flunked twice. Kenny had no ambition in attending school anymore. He dropped out and found a
full–time job at Burger King. Back then, anyone could get a job and if they...show more content...
Adolescents end up forsaking high school for numerous reasons. In this situation, a number do
not have the ambition to stay in school while others just can not afford to pay for it. In a few
cases, students drop out because of poor quality teaching ("Dropout Prevention" 1). When kids
drop out of high school, an infinite number of problems are presented to the United States society.
To illustrate, 75 percent of crimes committed in the United States are enacted by high school
dropouts. It costs the public nearly 200 billion dollars each year for these crimes and for welfare
benefits ("Dropout Prevention" 1). With the United States already in a recession, this takes a big
toll. Even if there was a 1 percent increase in the rate for completion of high school, it would save
the United States 1.4 billion dollars a year ("Dropout Prevention" 1). Furthermore, problems like this
can be tackled if some initiation is taken.
Assuredly, every student has a different reason as to why they dropped out, but thankfully some
schools have recognized the problem and found solutions. Although there are various amounts of
solutions, a few deal with the actual person. For instance, if the person was more sociable, they
would establish a sense of belonging in that school system. Though some students are "outcast" and
feel alone when they are in school, becoming more sociable will grant that person the

In the United States alone, 1.2 million high school students drop out each year. The challenges of
dropping out can be detrimental to a teen's future. The long term effects can impact the way they
live and and succeed. Thankfully, a numerous amount of suggestions have been created to make
student's lives easier. Dropping out is caused by a wide variety of reasons, and many different
actions have been taken to improve the overall rates.
Although an abundant number of students believe staying in school is prevalent, there are still
many who drop out for various reasons. According to "Why Students Drop Out, The Economical
Pressures That Make Leaving School Unavoidable", "Roughly 30 percent of students who drop
out of school between the ages of 16 and 18 are working in a variety of jobs, according to a new
study by the Urban Institute, a nonprofit research group based in Washington, D.C" (Rosales, 1).
This is particularly important because people often assume that students who drop out do it out of
lack of integrity. This proves that not all students drop out for the wrong reasons. For instance, some
students who drop out due to working needs many want to stay in school to fulfil their education, but
are unable to because of personal conflicts. Raising a child at such a young age can play a major role
in someone's choice, "Nearly one–third of teen girls who drop out of high school state early
pregnancy and parenthood as key reasons for their decision, according to
TheNationalCampaign.org" (Tucker, 1). Although teen pregnancy is viewed as a non exemplary
behavior, it is still one of the leading reasons students give for dropping out. With the combination of
stress from classes and raising a child, managing to stay in school as a teen parent seems nearly
impossible for most. This often results in dropping out in order to take on the upcoming
responsibilities of parenthood. Because some students have trouble engaging with their classes,
"High school students often report that academic content isn't interesting and they don't have a
personal connection with their teachers, according to an article in 'Psychology Today'" (Tucker, 1).
Those who find the subjects they are learning about uninteresting are more likely

Will negatively affect a student's future. Bob Keeshan once said,"Children don't drop out of High
School when they are 16 they do so in the first grade and wait 10 years to make it official."
Throughout the years studies have shown that in a year 1.2 million students drop out. Which leads
that only 25% of High School students during their freshman year fail to graduate. Dropouts in the
United States have became a very trending thing we must get to the bottom of this problem. Young
adults should not be making these decisions it's time to step in.
Over time plenty of young adults have been dropping out of high school
Which has made it hard for these young drop out to find a stable job without a high school
diploma. Some people don't really take this much in notice but it should be on of the many
problems we should be really focused on. For example, I read this article by, David Levine which
explains how a young girl named Beth decided to drop out of high school due to not wanting to
wake up early anymore and thinking life would be better if she would just get a job. There are
many things one doesn't notice when they make rad decision going back to Beth she didn't really
think that finding a job would be hard but it was really hard for her to find a well paying job with
such low education she had. Students need to realize that dropping is not an easy way out it's
actually the hardest way out with such a young mindset all you think about is

College has the potential to be either one of the highlights of a person's life or a complete
nightmare that can put someone thousands of dollars into debt. The biggest difference tends to be
how well someone performs academically. It can be incredibly frustrating to struggle with
schoolwork while attempting to adjust to living in a completely new way. Dropping out of school
isn't a completely illogical decision for someone if they feel that they are going to fail regardless of
how much effort they put forth. "We build a simple continuous–time model where high school
graduates are uncertain about their innate ability to accumulate human capital in college" (Ozadagli
279). There are many small factors that can help someone do better such as note taking skills,
memorization, or goal setting, the thing that will keep anyone on the track so success is to keep
one's life organized. If someone can organize their homework, study time, and personal life, it will
greatly improve their chances getting a hold on their academic life. Homework is something that
is incredibly easy to fall behind on or forget about. It is unbelievably easy to come up with a
reason not to do it, but it must be done. "Most reasons are simply excuses to hide the fact that we
are not willing to give something a high enough priority in our lives" (Roth 42). The most important
aspect managing homework is to always write down anything that gets assigned as well as it's due
date. It's a bad idea to put an

In everyday life, every person has been able to ask themselves "What if?" when it comes to trying
to figure out what is going to be completed after being able to finish school. In other cases some
people have panic attacks not being able to know whether or not they will be able to finish school.
The high school dropout rates have skyrocketed so high that many people that drop out are to face
many consequences that come their way. There are many consequences that occur if one is to
consider dropping out of school such as having a low income, going through incarceration, and
having many opportunities that may be missed out on.
First, a person who drops out of school exemplifies that there is a high percentage that they will
have a low income. When people drop out of high school, they come to realization that they are
not able to have support for the rest of their lives, so that means that they are to find a job so that
they could be able to support themselves. It is known that when being able to seek out for
employment one of the questions that will always be asked is "level of education completed" and
when their application is being viewed, the people in charge of hiring will most likely choose the
person that has a high school diploma. There have been many studies to portray the statistics that
people that were able to complete high school are more likely to have a bit of a higher income than
those who did not complete school. This will then lead to dropouts becoming

Chapter I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
I.Introduction
Many young people make decisions in their early years that can affect not
only their personal welfare, but also their society as a whole. Some students fail to
complete school and may become unemployed instead of becoming productive
member of the society. One of the major problem the Philippine education is facing
right now, especially in the public schools is the high percentage in the drop – out rate.
Each year, the Department of Education introduces different methods to
answer the continuous decrease in the internal efficiency especially the drop – out rate
in different schools. There is really a need for an advocacy to further supplement the

to propose possible solutions regarding this problem.
This study considers every aspects of students personal information that has an
impact on their academic performances such as their parents educational background,
their parents income, their gender and age. Each of the respondents are given same
questionnaires to answer. And this study focus on the current first and second year

This journal addresses statistics on high school dropouts, "High school dropouts earn $9,200 less
per year on average than those who graduate." (pp.1). Also, although high school dropouts have
lowered since 2004, it is still common and high school dropouts are more likely to be unemployed
(pp.1). With these I can state the negative effects of becoming a high school dropout. Interviews
that were made by Bridgeland et al. (2oo6) and most interviewees understood the importance of
getting high school diploma, and also believed that they could have gotten one, but they claim to
have worked harder if they had higher expectations from teachers and parents. (pp.3). This journal
also talks about the dropout process and signs that could indicate that an individual is likely to
dropout. These signs could help my essay when talking about the prevention of dropping out. Lastly,
the journal indicates at least to forms of reducing the dropout rates which would also help me in my
writing of prevention in high school dropouts.

Dropping Out Form School Why? Essay
Everybody at least once in their lives thinks about who they will be in the future. Some people are
successful because they have the motivation and determination to graduate college; others are less
lucky because of their lack of those characteristics and opportunities. Those people often don't feel
fulfilled in their lives because they get into a routine. Usually non–college graduates most of the
days work all day long to just pay rent and bills. They don't have time and enough money to enjoy
life by going on vacation to relax from daily duties. People should think about causes of dropping
out of college to avoid regrets in the future. The three causes of people quitting college are regulating

Therefore, they quit college. Furthermore, abrupt information about sickness of close member of
family can cause decision about abandon college. For example, a doctor diagnoses that student's
father has lung cancer and he predicts three months life for him. This information has an effect on
student's studies because of inability to concentrate, think about the dramatic day when the loved
person would past away. The student's thoughts lead them to sadness and depression. As a result,
person doesn't care about school anymore and resolve to quit college. A reason that students quit
college is unexpected personal problems.
The third cause of students resigning from college is financial problems. Some parents don't have
enough money to pay for a school because of economical crisis. For example, in days of
economical crisis a lot people lose their jobs so first they pay necessary expenses like a rent and
bills then they carry about their children's development of knowledge. Because parents don't have
enough money to cover educational expenses, their children are forced to quit college. Moreover,
students who apply for financial aid and they don't receive it, might have many siblings and despite
of their both parents work full time, their home budget doesn't let them continue education and they
usually quit college. Financial problems is a cause that students drop out of college.

Why You Shouldn T Drop Out Of School
In 2016 an average of 83% of students dropped out of high school. As you can see, that is way
more than half. That is kids over the age of 16 who can make that choice. Why would you want to
give that choice to anyone younger than that? Through this essay I'm going to give some reasons on
why that shouldn't be allowed.
At the age of 16 you are allowed to decide if you want to drop out of school. By the time you're 16
you are most likely in high school making your own decisions. You have responsibilities you have
to take care of. When you are 14 you don't really have that many things to worry about beside
school. That is the easy time in life when you have many many people who try to help you succeed
and get through everything. There's teachers who help you if you get behind and they make sure
you'll make it through school. Dropping out at 14 would be an idiotic thing to do. Youreducation is

It doesn't get hard until you are until you are in high school. When I was 14 I would've never
thought about dropping out because I didn't even know that was a choice. Being that young you
have a dream job that you want to succeed to one day. That makes you want to work towards it.
You want to be those teenagers wearing the cap and gown who are graduating. That's all you
dream about is fulfilling life with that one thing. Being 16 you should still be like that, but you
have so much stress on your shoulders from everything. I am currently 16 and I'm not afraid to
admit it. I've said I was going to drop out more times than
I can even remember because I can't keep up with everything that is thrown at me. Just think that
everyone is doing this for you and they are getting you through so you can have a great life.
This is why I think the dropout age should be 16. To many kids drop out per year and making the
age younger would make that number way more high, because some kids just don't care. They don't

Reasons For Dropping Out Of School
Stop, do not drop out .Over a dozen of students drop out of school every year. One thing they fail
to realize is the pros and cons that this sacrifice has on their life. Dropping out of school is one of
the biggest decisions that one can do. The causes for students dropping out can also be helped if
they talk to the right people. Three of the main causes for High School Students dropping out are
Low parent engagement, Poor Academic Performance, and they thought it would be easier to get
a GED. Life for students can become very hard very quickly. The peer pressure received from teen
students can be hurtful. Most high school students hang around the wrong crowd, which starts them
to start smoking, drinking, etc. Eighty percent of students who end up involved with these drugs
either drop out or end up getting a GED. Another main principle in students dropping out of school
is grades. Teens do not put in the time and work into getting good grades, which causes their
grades to get very low which causes them to go to summer school. This can be a big supplying
factor for dropouts. Lastly most teens drop out of school because of the funds. In the year Two
thousand and sixteen, lots of families have low income, meaning they do not have the best things
when it comes to clothing, shoes, haircuts, etc. which causes them to get talked about at school and
causes them to drop out due to them not wanting to get bullied every day. There are multiple reasons
for the high school dropout,

In life there are always moments that we wish we could take back. If given the chance to revisit
the past and change the outcome of a situation, I would have not dropped out of school and later
gotten my GED. I made this decision at a young age, unaware of how this decision would change
my future greatly. In deciding to drop out of school, I missed out on the experience that high school
gives you and how it would have helped develop my character. If I stayed enrolled in school I
would have had more doors opened for my future and the assistance that I would have needed to
make those life choices such as college. I would have been able to feel the sense of success, like
getting promoted to a higher position, getting rewards for all my hard work at the job, or simply
getting employee of the month. I would've wanted to finish the four years of high school and know
that all my hard work has paid off.
The knowledge and skills obtained while in high school could have assisted me in my future with
things such as college or employment, because in high school I would have learned social skills,
like communicating professionally with my bigger bosses, the owner of the company, or the
CEOs. This is information and skills that could have assisted me in my future and helped me define
the type of person that I could have become. A student is taught ethics and problem solving skills,
for example, how to get the work done right or how to make a customer or guest satisfied. Also,

I dropped out of high school my senior year. If you asked me what was going through my mind at
the time I would have answered with a sarcastic response along the lines of, "I don't plan to be
alive past 25 anyway." Here I am, at 28, alive and well. Looking backwards through time, I can
easily pinpoint what moments and decisions in my life have become cemented as pivotal in my
development. Dropping out of high school was one of those moments. I spent the entire senior year
wasting time, and when it got towards May, I realized I had no chance of passing. I dropped out and
did what you would imagine any high school drop out would do, I partied a lot. It set me down a
path that I would later call my personal "Dark ages." It was here that I found out that life is nothing
like the movies and my career in high school did little to prepare to for this world. I earned my GED
and would work jobs I wasn't proud of just to make some cash. I wasn't great at everything, but I
discovered a passion of mine. I was accepted as a shift manager at a pop–up Toys R' Us, and I was
good at selling. I'd learn everything about every item in our store so I could answer any question
at any moment. The key to a good sale, was investing, and investing into the person you are dealing
with. If you are interested in the person, then you aren't just handing off a product, but you are
taking care of their need. I could outsell anyone in the store, on any occasion. So much so they kept

Dropping out of college is major issue for many teens today. High school is a major contributing
factor for students to shift into adults and pursue their education beyond more than expected.

High School Dropouts
Entering high school is the beginning of a whole new learning experience. Transitioning from
middle school, high school presents more classes, students, and a bigger campus. It brings new
expectations and responsibilities to each of us. High school also offers fresh chances to make
new friends, try new sports and activities, and really explore who we are as individuals. The goal
is to maintain good grades, score high on the SAT test, and keep a positive attitude so colleges and
universities will accept you. Of course it's not as easy at sounds, but it's achievable. It requires a lot
of work and dedication to every subject. Some students breeze their way through while others live in

Studies have also found that dropping out is more likely to occur among students from single–parent
families and students with an older sibling who has already dropped out than among counterparts
without these characteristics. Other aspects of a student's home life such as level of parental
involvement and support, parent's educational expectations, parent's attitudes about school, and
stability of the family environment can also influence a youth's decision to stay in school. For
example, results from the NCES study found that students whose parents were not actively involved
in the student's school, whose parents infrequently talked to them about school–related matters, or
whose parents held low expectations for their child's future educational achievement were more
likely to drop out.
Another reason why a lot of students drop out of school is simply because they don't like it. High
school, through its control over many decisions that are made for students, still seems to be
restrictive. Many aspects of a student's life are pre–set and cannot be changed by the student to fit
his needs. For example, a student's time schedule is set every year. Every student must go the same
amount of hours every year. In most cases, school is from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every day,
whether he or she actually needs all the time or not. Students have to spend more time in some filler
classes that they think they probably did not need to take but still had

Many people would not put being a dropout and becoming successful in the same category.
However, there are many ways to make something out of your life other than high school. Every
person's grasp for the American dream is slowly coming to a halt as the American lifestyle is
changing ever so quickly. Although public education did not even exist a hundred years ago,
becoming educated in our society is one of the key elements in becoming successful. Public
education rewards many, however, it pushes most into a corner they cannot escape. Being pushed
into a corner of despair and failure is not by any means an ideal lifestyle. Finding an alternate route
other than public education is needed. Before someone decides to drop out of highschool, they
better understand how it could potentially affect them and weigh the decision of whether or not it is
the correct decision for them personally. Although there are countless ways to become successful,
having a basic layout of what to do after dropping out of high school is important. First, decide what
your goals in life are. Next, figure out a way on how to achieve those goals, regardless of how big
they are. Finally, put your mind on the right track and dedicate your potential on your future. Public
High school has been infested with problems since it was created. Although the idea of great public

Why I Decided To Drop Out Of School Essay
In 2008, Dallas Independent School District had the seventh–highest dropout rate in the country
(Stutz, T & Hobbs, T, 2008). That may not seem that awful until you take into consideration that the
Top 6 cities were districts in much smaller cities than Dallas. Since then, DISD has been
implementing more programs to reduce the dropout rate and while there has been some improvement
it isn't enough.
As reported by Matthew Haag (Dallas News, 2012), Kids drop out of school for several reasons, but
the primary reasons are those that relate to academic struggle, disengagement and not having a
support system. Research shows that the primary reason teens decide to drop out of school is due to
a void in the parental involvement in the student's education. Having the support of the parents, are
key factors to a child's success in school. When parents show no...show more content...
These are also big factors as to why they decide to drop out of school. When a student isn't able to
grasp onto a subject or the content they don't want to go to the teacher or someone for assistance.
They may feel embarrassed to go and seek that extra help and assistance that they really need in
order to be successful. This is turn leads a student to give up and ultimately drop out of school. You
should also take into account the transition from primary school to secondary school changes. These
students are going from having primarily one or two teachers to having 5 or more different teachers.
Therefore, some students aren't able to form those one on one bonds with the various teachers as
they may have been able to do so before, while in primary school. This sometimes may lead to
disengagement. The student's grades tend to suffer and they start to fall behind on assignments and
ultimately think that they're too far behind to even attempt to catch up and won't be able to graduate.
This ultimately leads to them dropping

On average, 1.2 million students drop out of high school every year, this breaks down to 7,000
students giving up their education everyday. The community should make an effort to helps students

racism leads to an increase in dropouts. Students dropout for numerous reasons and the average high
school dropout ends up less successful than a graduate. There are actions that can be taken to prevent
high school dropouts. The issue of high school dropouts continues to grow as dropout rates continue
to increase.
Some people argue that if a student wants to drop out, it is their personal choice. They choose to
hurt their educational life, therefore society as a whole should not waste their time and energy
attempting to help and prevent dropouts. Although sure enough, the people can not put an
absolute end to high school dropouts but they should help who they can not. Another reason it is
important to help dropouts is because high school dropouts do not only affect themselves, but
they affect the rest of the country as well (Williams 14). A specific region or areas drop out rates
play a role on the area's overall prosperity, for areas with lower dropout rates have less criminal
activity (Oreopoulos). By putting in effort to prevent students from dropping out an individual is
helping his or her neighbours. It is also said that high school dropouts cause a "loss of national

Another personal related problem is jobs. Most students are working part–time in order to support
themselves and their family which at times will lead to intrusion with school hours, home works,
no time for studying especially to major exams and various school activities which otherwise
leads to failing grade. Peer pressure is also another factor wherein these students are being led to
bad influences such as drinking, drug which causes a major side effect to students (Schwartz,
1995). Schools do this in order to handle their problem. Students from broken homes are also likely
to drop out of school due to the stressful situation that they have to go through and thus affect their
concentration in school. Furthermore, most students who dropped out of school don't like school
to begin with. These students will rebel and do anything against the school rules in order to be
kicked out (Schwartz, 1995). They are likely to fail on their subjects, doesn't get along with other
students, and have disciplinary problems. Oftentimes, disciplinary actions are taken before they are
dropped out. Various programs are being carried out by schools in order to reduce the rates ofdropout
and these programs are centered on maximizing school attendance and achievement and other
educational–related outcomes (Fashola and Slavin, 1998). More often

Why Students Are Dropping Out Of School
There are about 2.2 million prisoners in the United States and about 80% of them have dropped out
of high school(Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, 1995). Many high schoolers
drop out because of the lack of quality education in the schools and funding. The root of crime and
incarceration of the United States is education in the schools and prisons. The lack of proper
education in the school systems in low quality neighborhoods discourages many high school
students leaving them to drop out. Most high school drop outs end up incarcerated so giving
them a second chance of education in prison does not just benefit the prisoners but the
community too because they are taught how to improve society with an education. To solve this
problem there needs to be better education in public school and more education programs spread
throughout prisons in the United States. One reason why students are dropping out of school is
because of the quality of the teachers. A lot of low quality schools have something called tenured
teachers. Tenured teachers are teachers who have worked for the school long enough that they no
longer have a risk of being fired. Therefore some of them become lazy and do not care as much.
Especially in schools in troubled neighborhoods, tenured teachers do not want to work harder than
needed to. One out of every 57 doctors loses his or her license to practice medicine, One out of every

How College Dropouts Negatively Impact Lives And Careers

  • 1. Causes And Effects Of College Dropouts Causes and Effects of College Dropouts Life is believed to be easier for people with higher degrees than for those without higher degrees. Hence, it is the joy of parents to see their children admitted into a higher institution. With the high cost attached to attending a four year university, most students prefer to attend community colleges. Community colleges provide the same quality of education offered by universities for the first two years at a lower cost which help students reduce debts toward getting their higher degree. However, compared to the number of students who started their first year in community colleges, a large percentage dropped out. This is common to both freshly graduated high school students and adults who came back to college to obtain a degree. Students drop out of colleges because of financial issues and the need to take remedial courses. As a result, they have self esteem issues and may remain poor. Students drop out of colleges because of financial issues. Although some students get financial aid, it is not enough to pay for the expenses attached to getting a college degree. Students need money to buy textbooks which are highly expensive. Most courses required assignments to be taken online in which students must purchase a pass code. They also need money to pay their bills, take transportation to schools, and buy other items for personal needs. Due to financial constraint, most students have to work in addition to attending school. Students get Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. When a person drops out of high school, there are many reasons behind their decision. Whether it is a matter of not having enough money to attend high school, or the person just does not have the desire to attend. Behind all these apprehensions, there are many people suffering since they abandoned high school. In Sanchez's article, "A High School Dropout's Midlife Hardships," he reveals the hardships of a high school dropout. Kenny Buchanan, a 44–year old from Pennsylvania, withdrew from high school when he was 18. At that time, he was only in the ninth grade because he had flunked twice. Kenny had no ambition in attending school anymore. He dropped out and found a full–time job at Burger King. Back then, anyone could get a job and if they...show more content... Adolescents end up forsaking high school for numerous reasons. In this situation, a number do not have the ambition to stay in school while others just can not afford to pay for it. In a few cases, students drop out because of poor quality teaching ("Dropout Prevention" 1). When kids drop out of high school, an infinite number of problems are presented to the United States society. To illustrate, 75 percent of crimes committed in the United States are enacted by high school dropouts. It costs the public nearly 200 billion dollars each year for these crimes and for welfare benefits ("Dropout Prevention" 1). With the United States already in a recession, this takes a big toll. Even if there was a 1 percent increase in the rate for completion of high school, it would save the United States 1.4 billion dollars a year ("Dropout Prevention" 1). Furthermore, problems like this can be tackled if some initiation is taken. Assuredly, every student has a different reason as to why they dropped out, but thankfully some schools have recognized the problem and found solutions. Although there are various amounts of solutions, a few deal with the actual person. For instance, if the person was more sociable, they would establish a sense of belonging in that school system. Though some students are "outcast" and feel alone when they are in school, becoming more sociable will grant that person the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. In the United States alone, 1.2 million high school students drop out each year. The challenges of dropping out can be detrimental to a teen's future. The long term effects can impact the way they live and and succeed. Thankfully, a numerous amount of suggestions have been created to make student's lives easier. Dropping out is caused by a wide variety of reasons, and many different actions have been taken to improve the overall rates. Although an abundant number of students believe staying in school is prevalent, there are still many who drop out for various reasons. According to "Why Students Drop Out, The Economical Pressures That Make Leaving School Unavoidable", "Roughly 30 percent of students who drop out of school between the ages of 16 and 18 are working in a variety of jobs, according to a new study by the Urban Institute, a nonprofit research group based in Washington, D.C" (Rosales, 1). This is particularly important because people often assume that students who drop out do it out of lack of integrity. This proves that not all students drop out for the wrong reasons. For instance, some students who drop out due to working needs many want to stay in school to fulfil their education, but are unable to because of personal conflicts. Raising a child at such a young age can play a major role in someone's choice, "Nearly one–third of teen girls who drop out of high school state early pregnancy and parenthood as key reasons for their decision, according to TheNationalCampaign.org" (Tucker, 1). Although teen pregnancy is viewed as a non exemplary behavior, it is still one of the leading reasons students give for dropping out. With the combination of stress from classes and raising a child, managing to stay in school as a teen parent seems nearly impossible for most. This often results in dropping out in order to take on the upcoming responsibilities of parenthood. Because some students have trouble engaging with their classes, "High school students often report that academic content isn't interesting and they don't have a personal connection with their teachers, according to an article in 'Psychology Today'" (Tucker, 1). Those who find the subjects they are learning about uninteresting are more likely Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Dropping out of High School Will negatively affect a student's future. Bob Keeshan once said,"Children don't drop out of High School when they are 16 they do so in the first grade and wait 10 years to make it official." Throughout the years studies have shown that in a year 1.2 million students drop out. Which leads that only 25% of High School students during their freshman year fail to graduate. Dropouts in the United States have became a very trending thing we must get to the bottom of this problem. Young adults should not be making these decisions it's time to step in. Over time plenty of young adults have been dropping out of high school Which has made it hard for these young drop out to find a stable job without a high school diploma. Some people don't really take this much in notice but it should be on of the many problems we should be really focused on. For example, I read this article by, David Levine which explains how a young girl named Beth decided to drop out of high school due to not wanting to wake up early anymore and thinking life would be better if she would just get a job. There are many things one doesn't notice when they make rad decision going back to Beth she didn't really think that finding a job would be hard but it was really hard for her to find a well paying job with such low education she had. Students need to realize that dropping is not an easy way out it's actually the hardest way out with such a young mindset all you think about is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. College has the potential to be either one of the highlights of a person's life or a complete nightmare that can put someone thousands of dollars into debt. The biggest difference tends to be how well someone performs academically. It can be incredibly frustrating to struggle with schoolwork while attempting to adjust to living in a completely new way. Dropping out of school isn't a completely illogical decision for someone if they feel that they are going to fail regardless of how much effort they put forth. "We build a simple continuous–time model where high school graduates are uncertain about their innate ability to accumulate human capital in college" (Ozadagli 279). There are many small factors that can help someone do better such as note taking skills, memorization, or goal setting, the thing that will keep anyone on the track so success is to keep one's life organized. If someone can organize their homework, study time, and personal life, it will greatly improve their chances getting a hold on their academic life. Homework is something that is incredibly easy to fall behind on or forget about. It is unbelievably easy to come up with a reason not to do it, but it must be done. "Most reasons are simply excuses to hide the fact that we are not willing to give something a high enough priority in our lives" (Roth 42). The most important aspect managing homework is to always write down anything that gets assigned as well as it's due date. It's a bad idea to put an Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. In everyday life, every person has been able to ask themselves "What if?" when it comes to trying to figure out what is going to be completed after being able to finish school. In other cases some people have panic attacks not being able to know whether or not they will be able to finish school. The high school dropout rates have skyrocketed so high that many people that drop out are to face many consequences that come their way. There are many consequences that occur if one is to consider dropping out of school such as having a low income, going through incarceration, and having many opportunities that may be missed out on. First, a person who drops out of school exemplifies that there is a high percentage that they will have a low income. When people drop out of high school, they come to realization that they are not able to have support for the rest of their lives, so that means that they are to find a job so that they could be able to support themselves. It is known that when being able to seek out for employment one of the questions that will always be asked is "level of education completed" and when their application is being viewed, the people in charge of hiring will most likely choose the person that has a high school diploma. There have been many studies to portray the statistics that people that were able to complete high school are more likely to have a bit of a higher income than those who did not complete school. This will then lead to dropouts becoming Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Thesis About Drop-Out Students Chapter I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND I.Introduction Many young people make decisions in their early years that can affect not only their personal welfare, but also their society as a whole. Some students fail to complete school and may become unemployed instead of becoming productive member of the society. One of the major problem the Philippine education is facing right now, especially in the public schools is the high percentage in the drop – out rate. Each year, the Department of Education introduces different methods to answer the continuous decrease in the internal efficiency especially the drop – out rate in different schools. There is really a need for an advocacy to further supplement the idea of "...show more content... (pp.1). Also, although high school dropouts have lowered since 2004, it is still common and high school dropouts are more likely to be unemployed (pp.1). With these I can state the negative effects of becoming a high school dropout. Interviews that were made by Bridgeland et al. (2oo6) and most interviewees understood the importance of getting high school diploma, and also believed that they could have gotten one, but they claim to have worked harder if they had higher expectations from teachers and parents. These signs could help my essay when talking about the prevention of dropping out. Lastly, the journal indicates at least to forms of reducing the dropout rates which would also help me in my writing of prevention in high school dropouts. • 10. Dropping Out Form School Why? Essay Everybody at least once in their lives thinks about who they will be in the future. Some people are successful because they have the motivation and determination to graduate college; others are less lucky because of their lack of those characteristics and opportunities. Those people often don't feel fulfilled in their lives because they get into a routine. Usually non–college graduates most of the days work all day long to just pay rent and bills. They don't have time and enough money to enjoy life by going on vacation to relax from daily duties. People should think about causes of dropping out of college to avoid regrets in the future. The student's thoughts lead them to sadness and depression. As a result, person doesn't care about school anymore and resolve to quit college. A reason that students quit college is unexpected personal problems. The third cause of students resigning from college is financial problems. Some parents don't have enough money to pay for a school because of economical crisis. For example, in days of economical crisis a lot people lose their jobs so first they pay necessary expenses like a rent and bills then they carry about their children's development of knowledge. Because parents don't have enough money to cover educational expenses, their children are forced to quit college. Moreover, students who apply for financial aid and they don't receive it, might have many siblings and despite of their both parents work full time, their home budget doesn't let them continue education and they usually quit college. • 11. Why You Shouldn T Drop Out Of School In 2016 an average of 83% of students dropped out of high school. As you can see, that is way more than half. That is kids over the age of 16 who can make that choice. Why would you want to give that choice to anyone younger than that? Through this essay I'm going to give some reasons on why that shouldn't be allowed. At the age of 16 you are allowed to decide if you want to drop out of school. By the time you're 16 you are most likely in high school making your own decisions. You have responsibilities you have to take care of. When you are 14 you don't really have that many things to worry about beside school. That is the easy time in life when you have many many people who try to help you succeed and get through everything. There's teachers who help you if you get behind and they make sure you'll make it through school. Dropping out at 14 would be an idiotic thing to do. Youreducation is ...show more content... It doesn't get hard until you are until you are in high school. When I was 14 I would've never thought about dropping out because I didn't even know that was a choice. Being that young you have a dream job that you want to succeed to one day. That makes you want to work towards it. You want to be those teenagers wearing the cap and gown who are graduating. That's all you dream about is fulfilling life with that one thing. Being 16 you should still be like that, but you have so much stress on your shoulders from everything. I am currently 16 and I'm not afraid to admit it. I've said I was going to drop out more times than I can even remember because I can't keep up with everything that is thrown at me. Just think that everyone is doing this for you and they are getting you through so you can have a great life. This is why I think the dropout age should be 16. To many kids drop out per year and making the age younger would make that number way more high, because some kids just don't care. They don't care to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Reasons For Dropping Out Of School Stop, do not drop out .Over a dozen of students drop out of school every year. One thing they fail to realize is the pros and cons that this sacrifice has on their life. Dropping out of school is one of the biggest decisions that one can do. The causes for students dropping out can also be helped if they talk to the right people. Three of the main causes for High School Students dropping out are Low parent engagement, Poor Academic Performance, and they thought it would be easier to get a GED. Life for students can become very hard very quickly. The peer pressure received from teen students can be hurtful. Most high school students hang around the wrong crowd, which starts them to start smoking, drinking, etc. Eighty percent of students who end up involved with these drugs either drop out or end up getting a GED. Another main principle in students dropping out of school is grades. Teens do not put in the time and work into getting good grades, which causes their grades to get very low which causes them to go to summer school. This can be a big supplying factor for dropouts. Lastly most teens drop out of school because of the funds. In the year Two thousand and sixteen, lots of families have low income, meaning they do not have the best things when it comes to clothing, shoes, haircuts, etc. which causes them to get talked about at school and causes them to drop out due to them not wanting to get bullied every day. • 13. In life there are always moments that we wish we could take back. If given the chance to revisit the past and change the outcome of a situation, I would have not dropped out of school and later gotten my GED. I made this decision at a young age, unaware of how this decision would change my future greatly. In deciding to drop out of school, I missed out on the experience that high school gives you and how it would have helped develop my character. If I stayed enrolled in school I would have had more doors opened for my future and the assistance that I would have needed to make those life choices such as college. I would have been able to feel the sense of success, like getting promoted to a higher position, getting rewards for all my hard work at the job, or simply getting employee of the month. I would've wanted to finish the four years of high school and know that all my hard work has paid off. The knowledge and skills obtained while in high school could have assisted me in my future with things such as college or employment, because in high school I would have learned social skills, like communicating professionally with my bigger bosses, the owner of the company, or the CEOs. This is information and skills that could have assisted me in my future and helped me define the type of person that I could have become. A student is taught ethics and problem solving skills, for example, how to get the work done right or how to make a customer or guest satisfied. Also, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. I dropped out of high school my senior year. If you asked me what was going through my mind at the time I would have answered with a sarcastic response along the lines of, "I don't plan to be alive past 25 anyway." Here I am, at 28, alive and well. Looking backwards through time, I can easily pinpoint what moments and decisions in my life have become cemented as pivotal in my development. Dropping out of high school was one of those moments. I spent the entire senior year wasting time, and when it got towards May, I realized I had no chance of passing. I dropped out and did what you would imagine any high school drop out would do, I partied a lot. It set me down a path that I would later call my personal "Dark ages." It was here that I found out that life is nothing like the movies and my career in high school did little to prepare to for this world. I earned my GED and would work jobs I wasn't proud of just to make some cash. I wasn't great at everything, but I discovered a passion of mine. I was accepted as a shift manager at a pop–up Toys R' Us, and I was good at selling. I'd learn everything about every item in our store so I could answer any question at any moment. The key to a good sale, was investing, and investing into the person you are dealing with. Transitioning from middle school, high school presents more classes, students, and a bigger campus. It brings new expectations and responsibilities to each of us. High school also offers fresh chances to make new friends, try new sports and activities, and really explore who we are as individuals. The goal is to maintain good grades, score high on the SAT test, and keep a positive attitude so colleges and universities will accept you. Of course it's not as easy at sounds, but it's achievable. Studies have also found that dropping out is more likely to occur among students from single–parent families and students with an older sibling who has already dropped out than among counterparts without these characteristics. Other aspects of a student's home life such as level of parental involvement and support, parent's educational expectations, parent's attitudes about school, and stability of the family environment can also influence a youth's decision to stay in school. For example, results from the NCES study found that students whose parents were not actively involved in the student's school, whose parents infrequently talked to them about school–related matters, or whose parents held low expectations for their child's future educational achievement were more likely to drop out. Another reason why a lot of students drop out of school is simply because they don't like it. High school, through its control over many decisions that are made for students, still seems to be restrictive. Many aspects of a student's life are pre–set and cannot be changed by the student to fit his needs. For example, a student's time schedule is set every year. Every student must go the same amount of hours every year. In most cases, school is from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every day, whether he or she actually needs all the time or not. Students have to spend more time in some filler classes that they think they probably did not need to take but still had Get more content on HelpWriting.net

You should also take into account the transition from primary school to secondary school changes. These students are going from having primarily one or two teachers to having 5 or more different teachers. Therefore, some students aren't able to form those one on one bonds with the various teachers as they may have been able to do so before, while in primary school. This sometimes may lead to disengagement. The student's grades tend to suffer and they start to fall behind on assignments and ultimately think that they're too far behind to even attempt to catch up and won't be able to graduate. • 21. Why Students Are Dropping Out Of School There are about 2.2 million prisoners in the United States and about 80% of them have dropped out of high school(Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, 1995). Many high schoolers drop out because of the lack of quality education in the schools and funding. The root of crime and incarceration of the United States is education in the schools and prisons. The lack of proper education in the school systems in low quality neighborhoods discourages many high school students leaving them to drop out. Most high school drop outs end up incarcerated so giving them a second chance of education in prison does not just benefit the prisoners but the community too because they are taught how to improve society with an education. To solve this problem there needs to be better education in public school and more education programs spread throughout prisons in the United States. One reason why students are dropping out of school is because of the quality of the teachers. A lot of low quality schools have something called tenured teachers. Tenured teachers are teachers who have worked for the school long enough that they no longer have a risk of being fired. Therefore some of them become lazy and do not care as much. Especially in schools in troubled neighborhoods, tenured teachers do not want to work harder than needed to.
