Essential Questions:
•What is Moodle?
•Why are we having Moodle?
•How will Moodle be advantageous
for the Vienna International School
Community?
What is Moodle?
Moodle is an
electronic learning
system, also known
as a Course
Management System
(CMS) or
Virtual Learning
Environment (VLE).
What is Moodle?
Moodle is an acronym. It stands
for:
     Modular Object-Oriented
  Dynamic Learning Environment.
What is Moodle?
Moodle is an interactive
 system built on the
social constructivist
concept that
learning
communities can
acquire knowledge
through interacting,
collaborating, and
sharing.
Why are we having Moodle at
  VIS?
To broaden our students educational experience and
offer them optimal opportunities for learning
Why are we having Moodle at VIS?
To enhance and augment existing best
                  practices

To empower learning and teaching in new and
 additional ways…
Why are we having Moodle at VIS?
To further facilitate our ability to communicate,
collaborate, and share as a Learning Community

"None of us are smarter than all of us“ –Sir Ken Robinson
Why are we having Moodle at VIS?
To synergize and leverage the use and application
of our various ICT systems and tools
How may Moodle be advantageous to our VIS
             Community?
• Can provide a “common ground” upon which all:
educators, students, parents, support staff can meet,
communicate and collaborate
•Can be used to further build and expand classroom
community – “flattening or blending” models
•Facilitate student, educator, and parent interactivity
and teamwork
• Support student development of independent and self
-directed learning
•Can build legacy within the community –a collective
knowledge bank
Why are we having Moodle at VIS?
How may Moodle be advantageous to the VIS
             Community?

               And…
Students
Technology is used by people in
many different ways the
emphasis is on Utility
How may Moodle be advantageous to the VIS
             Community?

             VIS Educators
               VIS staff?
               Parents?
               Students?
What is Social Constructivism? Briefly...

• People actively construct new knowledge as they interact with their
  environment.
• Everything you read, see, hear, feel, and touch is tested against
  your prior knowledge
• Knowledge is strengthened if you can use it successfully in your
  wider environment.
• You are not just a memory bank passively absorbing information,
nor can knowledge be "transmitted" to you just by reading
  something or listening to someone.
• Learning is particularly effective when constructing something for
  others to experience
• Social Constructivism extends the above ideas into a social group
constructing things for one another, collaboratively creating a small
culture of shared artifacts with shared meanings.
