2. The Beginning
• Initialized by Edvard Beneš in 1943- leader of
Czech- Slovakian exiled government
• The Christmas agreement- the Slovak National
Council was formed, the beginning of preparation
of uprising
• Centre was in Banská Bystrica in Slovakia
• Partisan units were formed:
60 000 Slovak soldiers
18 000 partisans (Slovaks, Czechs, French,
Russians, Romanians)

4. • The uprising should have broken out after the
agreement with Red Army but on 29th August
1944 German army came to Slovakia
• German had predominance and rebellious
army was definitively destroyed at night from
27th till 28th October
• Remaining part of rebellious partisans fought
till release by the Soviets in spring 1945

5. The meaning of SNP
• Slovakia openly came out against Germany
• Slovakia took side anti- Hitler alliance
• Independent politics within the common state
with the Czechs
• Respect of victorious powers in World War II

6. Facts
• It took 60 days
• 80 thousand people were involved
• 10- 15 thousand victims (estimated)
• 33 nations were involved
• Approximately 1400 participants live till today
