7. Conscience
• From Latin term conscientia which means “knowledge
within oneself.”
• "voice within" or "inner light“
• The moral sense of right and wrong, chiefly as it
affects one's own behavior.
• Is an aptitude, faculty, intuition or judgment that
assists in distinguishing right from wrong.
• Feeling of guilt, worry, dissatisfaction, restlessness or
a feeling of “hiya” when we do something wrong.

Conscience
1. Moral judgment that discerns
what is right and wrong.
2. Moral obligation or command to
do good and avoid evil

• ANTECEDENT - Conscience which discerns.
(Before the act)
• CONCOMITANT- Conscience in action.
“Am I doing the right thing?” (During the act)
• CONSEQUENT - Conscience which reviews,
evaluates an action which has already been
done. (After the act)

1. Correct or True Conscience –
corresponds to objective moral values
and precept.
2. False or Erroneous Conscience – one
which mistakenly judges something as
morally good which is objectively
evil.

It is important to be correct.

• Evaluate each of the characters’ values and

17. The Modern-day Samaritan
There was an Aeta who was going
to visit a long lost friend in an area in
Intramuros, Manila, when he fell into the
hands of drug addicts. They beat him in the
sensitive parts of his body, unclothed him,
and left him half dead in the street. A
policeman who passed the same road saw
the Aeta, and did not care to stop. So too, a
lawyer, when he came to the place and saw
him, immediately crossed to the other side.
18. The Modern-day Samaritan
But when a cigarette vendor
came, he took the man and brought him
to the nearest hospital and waited until
he regained consciousness. The Aeta was
very thankful for what the cigarette
vendor did to him. He told his father how
he was helped by the cigarette vendor.
The father held a feast in gratitude for
the goodness of the cigarette vendor.
