- Here is a website that was created by a previous Internet Studio 1 student, Megan Edwards. You can visit her website at thesingleplate.com. We will examine how she created this site.
- A sitemap gives an aerial view of your website. It indicates content not design. In other words, it suggests only what content will be on your website, not a design for your website. The home page for the website is where you will start.
- Here are the main sections that Megan decided were important to have on her website. Notice that she decided to include a blog, which feeds content to the Grocery Lists and Recipes portion of her website. These pages are dynamic, the content that appears on them changes as new posts gets added. The other three pages (Essentials, About and Contact) are static pages. The content on these pages change very infrequently.
- These are the pages Megan decided to launched with.
- Oh, and don’t forget your search results page. Search is another form of navigation. Almost every website includes a search box, but we want to remind ourselves (and your client) that you will have a search box on your website.
- By the summer her website grew to nearly 20 pages.
- Finally, notice that the sitemap indicates the URLs (Uniform Resource Locators), more commonly called web addresses, of these pages. The web address of the About page will be thesingleplate.com/about. The Grocery Lists page will be thesingleplate.com/grocery-lists. Your site map should include a suggested web address for each of your pages. Keep the following in mind: - Web addresses should be as short as possible. - Web addresses should never include capital letters or underscores.
