MOOD BOARD ANALYSIS
A mood board is an arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc.,
intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept. Mood board had
showed me a lot about the chosen genre, each character is independent in
their photos which shows there body language while the picture or the
movie was taking place, which makes the audience know what genre of
movie is it, by the name or the picture of the movie the audience will get an
idea of what genre is it going to be about before the audience go watch it,
e.g. One missed call, the audience will get a clear idea from the name that
the movie is going to be a horror genre and its based on a phone call . The
photo shows what the characters are capable of their expression, which
tells us that there, afraid from what’s going to happen after the call.
From an overall perspective I think that the photo's say a lot about each
characters and shows how they react to certain situations and how they
cope with there feelings
TARGET AUDIENCE
Since were interested in thriller and horror movies we decided (Fatima AlSayegh (Myself) ,
Imen and Shafeq) to film a Thriller/Action mmovie for our coursework. Our target
audience mostly who enjoy crime thriller, with some action. Mostly ages between 16-35
and targeted between the both gender "Female and Male". As it shows looking back at
our questionnaire's, many students and also adults do enjoy crime thriller and would go
watch this movie because the film involve violence, killing, blood, knife and revenge
scene .
Our target audiences include females because 60% of the females now days enjoy
watching thriller movies and there more into it , but also because of the story plot, the
drama, romance and comedy scene which makes them laugh and more emotional . E.g.
" Ride Along 2" Ben and Angela will get married . Males enjoy mostly the car racing and
the gun shots in the movie . They want to see this because of the excitement. So overall
males and females on the age group of 16-35 is our target audience.
I went through a lot of thriller story plots and thriller opening sequence movies to give me
an idea of what we should include in our opening sequence and what makes our
opening sequence and plot special then others, each one of us decide to have an
individual research and then merge all the ideas together to film an opening sequence.
PRIMARY RESEARCH – QUESTIONNAIRE
The following 10 questions are designed to help us identify our target
audience and use it for market research
advantage of the use of questionnaire:-
• Large amount of information can be collected from a large number
of people in a short period of time and in relatively cost effective
way.
• Can be carried out by the researcher or by any number of people
with limited
The main reason we used questionnaire because its an easy way to
analyze or evaluate what people like and help us for the movie
opening :-
PRIMARY RESEARCH – QUESTIONNAIRE
• Older age group of people prefer
Comedy, Thriller ,Horror and
Romance .As they say that they
chose to watch thriller movie mainly
because of violence that took place .
• Almost every person who filled in
the questionnaire had different genre
of films that are based on a true story
and filmed different perspectives.
• People who is in the age group of
18+ prefer to watch the trailer of the
movie before watching the full
movie or the opening sequence.
• Females enjoy Romantic , Comedy
films more then thriller.

AUDIENCE ANALYSIS – QUESTIONNAIRE
In my point a questionnaire has helped me to know more about people
taste of movies and that most people would go and watch the film
because of the story plot and the action scene that will took place in the
movie. Most of the people had chosen knife and shooting films as their
favorite, such as " Mission Impossible" and "Rid Along 2" because these
films have a lot of violence, blood and killing scene. Many of the student
prefer immediate action and explosion's because this is what grabs their
attention and makes them want to see more, and the plot of the movie
especially is more important to them . The adults prefer the story plot
and the actors that will took place in the movies, how good do they play
the role.
My role was to type out the questionnaire and choice particular questions
which help us to choice our target audience and give us an idea of what
our customers like to see in opening sequence..

CONCLUSION – CREDIT SEQUENCE
All the films start differently with all different stories. “Mission
Impossible – Rouge Nation” starts with factual writing on the screen
and loud music takes place in the boat, the audience wont see the main
character yet until they will be introduced, we think the introduction
was very good because of the effects they use, and different kind of
shots, and it also sets the story straight away.
"Ride along 2" gets to the story plot straight away and gets to the point.
There isn’t much special effects in the introduction, it is simple, which
we liked .Overall we think the introduction of the movie is very
engaging and grabs the audiences attention straight away.
"One Missed Call" from the beginning of the movie it tell the audience
that it's a horror genre and gets to the story plot straight away. There's
a lot of effects in the intro and different scary sound effect. Overall we
think that its eye catching
DIEGETIC & NON DIEGETIC SOUND
• A diegetic sound is a source which is visible on the screen ,which
means it is implied to present by the action of the film e.g :- Voices
of characters, sounds made by objects
• A diegetic sound can be either on screen or off screen depending on
whatever its source is within the frame or outside the frame.
• Another term for diegetic sound is “actual sound”
• Non-diegetic sound whose source is neither visible on the screen
nor has been implied to be present in the action. e.g:- mood music,
narrator’s commentary and sound effects which is added for the
dramatic effect.
• Non-diegetic sound is represented as coming from the source
outside story space.
• Another term for non-diegetic sound is ” commentary sound”
MOVIE ANALYSIS - RIDE ALONG 2
I have chosen this film ‘Ride along 2’ to analyze because I think within just the credit sequence
it tells a lot about the film itself and it also contains much different credit sequence which I can
deeply analyze. The main narrative of this film is that after our heroes' last adventure his plans
for a quick trip to Miami go bad. With the wedding upcoming, James reluctantly takes Ben with
him to Miami to follow up on a lead connected to a drug-ring case he's been trying to crack.
In the credit sequence of this film the first thing that appears up is the production
company's name and the logo. Universal picture is an American film studio, owned
by Comcast through its wholly owned subsidiary NBC Universal, It was found in April
30,1912 (103 years ago) as Universal Film Manufacturing Company in the United
States. And it’s known for film such as The Purge, The Fast and the Furious,
Unfriended. (Wikipedia)
MOVIE ANALYSIS- RIDE ALONG 2
Ride along 2 gives us an idea that the company has many good movies under its
banner as it had been around the industry for a long time, raising our expectations of
the film itself. The movie targeted an adult audience 18+.
They used Establishing shot of the buildings to start the film , its the first shot of a
new scene, designed to show the audience where the action is taking place. It is
usually a very wide shot or extreme wide shot.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – RIDE ALONG 2
By seeing the opening sequence the audience still doesn’t know what’s going on the
boat and interested to know farther after all the loud dramatic music that took place
inside the boat (Diegetic Sound). As can be seen in the photo that they used high
angle to show the boat photographed seem smaller, and less significant . with the use
of high shot the destination name "Miami" appears next to the boat in a reflected
purple font in the beach which already tells its viewers the location of this film.
MOVIE ANALYSIS - RIDE ALONG 2
Different type of camera angels used in the movie but in the opening scene they
focused on medium close up to show Antonio Pope and his role in the film which
add mystery to the scene.
Dramatic loud music was played in the opening scene ( Diegetic Sound) which
gives the audience an exciting feeling and adds a dramatic attention to the audience
that makes them wonder what is Ride Along 2 is based on.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – RIDE ALONG 2
They used a good example of Mise en
scene they carefully chose costume,
lighting, location and props to create the
kind of feel and verisimilitude.
Low angle help to give the sense of
confusion to a viewer, of powerlessness
within the action of a scene.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – RIDE ALONG 2
They used 180 degree, the 180-degree rule enables the audience to visually
connect with unseen movement happening around and behind the immediate
characters and is important in the narration of the scenes. they also added
an Incidental music which is an background music to let the audience feel the
excitement. (Non- Diegetic ), Dialogue between the three of them ( Foley,
Diegetic sound).
They used two shot of the two characters having a
conversation, they used medium close up shows
the spatial relationship of the two characters, who
are often in conversation. James Payton and Ben
Barber are having a conversation, James refuse to
take Ben to Miami.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – RIDE ALONG 2
They also used over the shoulder
shot ,they use this type of shot when two
characters are having a discussion, which
shows here that James Payton and Ben
Barber are having a discussion, when James
agree to take Ben with him to Miami.
By using extreme wide shot, the point of
this shot is to show the subject's
surroundings, which is Ben being stuck in
the sea.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – RIDE ALONG 2
The aerial shot is an exiting variation of a
crane shot, as can be seen in the picture
they have take it from a helicopter, they
used it at the end of the film in order to
establish settings and moment.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL
The opening scene start with a title of "Warner Bros. Picture", It an American
company that produces film, television and music entertainment, as one of the
major film studios, It's a huge well known company which has a good
repetition while it was founded in April 4, 1923 (92 years ago).
The audience would understand that it’s a horror movie from the sound of
the opening scene and the darkness of the location and the cover of the
movie, it target an adult audience (18+), Low key lighting was used a lot
especially on the face to indicate mystery and give a donation that it’s a
horror/mystery film.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL
From the window knocking , breathing and the scream sound effect that appears in
the opening scene of “One missed call” “could tell it’s a horror movie, this represent
the title of the film and display what the film is about. It shows a combined genre of
thriller and horror movie. This could make the audience wonder what’s going on
after the girl scream and what the reason behind her scream is. They also
used diegetic and non diegetic sound. To give the audience frightening.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL
'Mise - en scene' Setting creates both a sense
of place and a mood and it may also reflect a
character’s emotional state of mind .After the
entire fire scene that took place it shows a
young girl being evacuated from a burning
hospital. A firefighter asks her if her mother is
in there, but she doesn't respond.
After 2 minutes the main character was introduced Shelley she received a call from
her friend and after the call, the mystery begins Shelley hears her cat making
strange noises. Shelley walks towards it but after a quick second, she finds it
standing on the other side of the pond. She suddenly hears strange murmuring in
the pond and out of nowhere, a hand emerges ( Medium Close Up shot) and drags
Shelley into the pond, drowning her . The audience could clearly recognize what
the movie is talking about, they introduced a female victim in the opening sequence
because they know that the female gender isn’t strong.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL
They used different type of shot but mostly they focused on Medium close up to
show the character facial expressions.
They used Establishing shot of buildings
to provide a view from above the subject,
the reason why they used this method
because its a rewind for the entire thing
that happened in the opening sequence, so
that the people get excited to know what’s
the reason behind all the thing that
happened.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL
They also used good example
of customs which give a since of terrifying
since it’s a horror movie. However they
used dim lighting to create a horror
threatening atmosphere to the audience
and make them feel worried about what’s
going to happen furthermore and who’s
behind this mask!
They used low angle to show the fiscal
expression of the people, The added height of
the object may make it inspire fear and
insecurity in the viewer, who is
psychologically dominated by the figure on
the screen.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL
Two shot techniques has been used here as can be seen at the first photo they
used medium close up to show the type of phone and all the contact and how is
it scrolling down by itself . However the second shot they use a zoom lenses,
they zoomed into the contact to make the audience shiver from the excitement.
Eye level shot is the one in which the
camera is placed at the subject’s height,
so the actor is looking at the lens, he
wouldn’t have to look up or down. Eye
level shots are incredibly common
because they are neutral and shows the
look of the character.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL
Extreme close-up they used a very
artificial shot, to show a dramatic effect .
To let the audience want to know what's
inside the whole .The tight focus required
means that extra care must be taken when
setting up and lighting the shot .
High Angle the camera is elevated above
the action using a crane to give a general
overview. High angles make the object less
significant and scary, the character here is
looking at the time.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL
Over the shoulder this shot helps to
establish the position of each character,
and get the feel of looking at one person
from the other's point of view.
They used 180 degree to show the fiscal
expression of the character and how she's
terrified from the call.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE –
ROUGE NATION
From the title of the film the audience would directly recognize that it’s an Action
genre film and it’s based on sending an agent a mission in the rouge nation .The
story plot of this film is that after intercepting nerve gas being sold to terrorists in
Minsk, Belarus, Impossible Missions Force agent Ethan Hunt is convinced he can
prove the existence of the Syndicate, an international criminal consortium that the
Central Intelligence Agency does not believe exist.
The film was produced by Paramount Picture Corporation; it is commonly known as
Paramount Studios and formerly known as Famous Players-Lasky Corporation is an
American film studio, television production company and motion picture distributor,
consistently ranked as one of the “Big Six” film studios of Hollywood.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE –
ROUGE NATION
Skydance productions is an American film and
television production company based at
Paramount Picture in Hollywood, California.
Skydance was responsible for the feature length
of this film.
Alibaba picture group is a Chinese film company
under Alibaba Group. The film company was
formerly ChinaVision Media, of which Alibaba
Group bought a majority stake late 2014. It
subsequently renamed as ChinaVision as Alibaba
Picture Group. Alibaba picture has huge role in
Mission Impossible – Rouge Nation they were
the investors of the film.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE -
ROUGE NATION
At the beginning of the opening sequence they used medium close up and set the
location names in a black font “Minsk Belarus”, filmmakers choose to shoot on
location because they believe that greater realism can be achieved in a real place,
however location shooting is often motivated by the film's budget. The audience
would be able to recognize the destination by its appearing. They directly used an
( Diegetic) which is dialogue between different character with a incidental music to
represent action (Non-Diegetic).
Medium close up to show the character and a little of the
background, they used a good customs to show the agent
is covered up with grass so that he doesn’t show, which tell
the audience that he’s in a mission. “Mise en scene” with
a high key lighting.
MOVIE ANALYSIS - MISSION IMPOSSIBLE –
ROUGE NATION
Most movies take place over at least a few days of story time, many take
places over several months and years, but how can a film be reduced to
100 minute of running time, by the uses of Ellipsis. In the second scene
they used Ellipsis shot to show different locations of each character it
allow scenes that happen in different locations at the same periods of time
to show in the screen.
As can be seen they used an establishing shot it is
designed to show the audience where the action is
taking place.
MOVIE ANALYSIS -MISSION IMPOSSIBLE –
ROUGE NATION
Low angle used when the main character was
introduced, the audience know about a
particular character right up front, from the
action that took place, it increase height useful
for short actors like Tom Cruise and give a
sense of speed motion.
Match on action, cutting on action refers to film editing and video editing
techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the
first shot's action. They used it here to show different type of shot filmed to show
the action that are taken place.
MOVIE RESEARCH – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE –
ROUGE NATION
They used close up shot and pan right camera
movement to show the audience the newspaper
that the agent collect, it follows a moving object
which is kept in the middle of the frame.
They used medium close up shot and dolly in camera movement
and high angle to show the audience the opera event that are taken place
in the mission. They used dolly shot to gradually focusing the audience
on a particular object and character.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE –
ROUGE NATION
Eye level camera angle with medium close
up it allows the audience to feel comfortable
with the characters or tell the audience that
something might to happen by the look of the
character.
Extreme close up, extreme close up to show
only the eyes, with no background detail its an
artificial shot, and can be used for dramatic
effect.
MOVIE ANALYSIS – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE –
ROUGE NATION
Over the shoulder this shot used for looking from behind a person at the
subject, usually when two characters are having a conversation.
FILM CONCLUSION
Overall all the films got very good reviews and “Ride Along 2” got
the highest rated one the reason for this is because it has a very good story
plot with a combination of comedy and shooting scene. Which makes
the audience get interested to watch it As will also “ Mission Impossible
“ it has a good story plot while it was produced by a famous film
company its also well known because of the actor “ Tom Cruise” and
has a lot of action, violence and killing scene in it however “One missed
call” was the lowest rated between the others while it didn’t get a good
review because the story plot was too simple and hasn’t got much story
between each character . The introduction didn’t really explain much
and throughout the story many people was wondering why did the girl
get gripped by someone arms and under the water.
From an overall perspective I think that they had a good reviews and this is
because of the story plot and the audience reaction
FILM THAT HAVE INFLUENCED ME !
The two main films that had influenced me are “ Ride Along 2” and
“Mission Impossible”
The reason for this are because “Ride Along 2”, gets to the story
straight away as it shows in the credit sequence of the movie, the
main characters will be mysteries at the beginning and they wont
know who’s the reason behind the crimes that took place, it begin
with showing each character role in the movie ,e.g.:- Ice Cube as
Detective James Payton , Kevin Hart as Officer Ben Barber . The
main characters will get gun-shot but they will service and seek for
revenge.
The second film is “ Mission Impossible” the reason for this is
because it shows us who the main character is brave and know
how to solve problems since he’s an agent he tries to prove the
existence of the Syndicate , an international mysterious in terrorist
consortium.
I decide to merge the ideas of these two films with our own idea. We
will be using some ideas of “Ride Along 2” as the gun shots and
the killing part , and “ Mission Impossible” Agent tasks and skills.
SHOT REVERSE SHOT
• Shot reverse shot is a continuity editing technique used in conversation or simply
characters looking at each other or objects
• A shot showing what the character is supposedly looking at ( either a point of
view or over the shoulder shot ) for example its is followed by a reverse angle
shot of the character themselves looking at it, or of the other character looking
back at them, for example
• Shot reverse shot often ties in with 180 degree rule to retain continuity by not
distorting the audience’s sense of location of the characters in the shots
(Wikipedia)
180 DEGREE RULE
• The rule states that the cameras should remain the same
side of an imaginary line
• The line is drawn perpendicular to the cameras
viewpoint in the establishing shot of the scene
• The rule enforce continuity of the film
• An example is that in a car chase scene, if the car is
travelling from right to left, the next shot must also be
shot from the same side, meaning the car has to enter
the frame right to left again.
• Camera must always be on one side of the line
• Never break the rule cause it might create confusion of
audience , audience lose focus, become disorientated
and miss vital parts of the film

HEALTH AND SAFETY
We filmed in four different secure location ;-
• the first one was in a gym we make sure that all the machines are safe .
• The second place is Aspire which was in a public place ,it’s an environmental
friendly place and has a panoramic view with no hazards which might harm
any participants or damage the equipment , security cameras are everywhere
and security police are spread out all over the place.
• The third place was at an empty backyard behind the compound.
• The fourth place was in the restaurant.
• There are no dangerous props being used in any scene.
One of the main thing that I was concerned about is the health and safety . I
make sure that everything was safe example, location, props, costumes ,
equipment that have been used to film the opening sequence . Since we
filmed in a public places we weren't allowed to use real equipment like gun,
knife so we used the fake one which is smellier to a real one .
LOCATION
We used the gym and the club house in Shafeq compound to film the
movie since it has a huge empty places and its still under construction
which we found it a good place for filming a horror/thriller movie
however we had a lot of choices to shot in different places e.g. the roof,
gym, backyard and the club house
We will use the gym for the first sense as the main character try to
defense himself from the ghost and runaway . We tried to take shots
where there was no one in the gym so that the ghost main focuses is on
him and his friends.
Restaurant the scene where the main character receive an unknown
call.
Aspire park to film the beginning part of how the boy was living a
normal, healthy life.
PHOTOS OF LOCATION
PARTICIPATE
• Fatima AlSayegh (Director, Movie Script Writer)
• Shafeq Belaroussi (Main Character, Director)
• Lujain Hasan (Main Character )
• Iheb Ben Ali (The killer )
• Harith ( Friends of the main character)
• Mohammed Farhan (Friend of the main characters)
• Hatem Kanjy (Friends of the main characters)
• Imen Jammeli (Costumes)
MY MAIN ROLE
My main role was to give cooperation of many different creative individuals with possibly
strongly contradicting artistic ideals and visions as well as directing the shooting
timetable and meeting deadlines. However It is my first time to be a director since
Shafeq was the main director and I was the second but he was the main character in
some of the scene I choice to be the second director, I faced some difficulties in
organizing but later on I fixed it and tried to improve it in the second filming day,
check and call the character make sure that there prepared for filming, costumes are
ready, equipment, right location and following the right camera movements . It was
really fun and I gained a lot of experience in having this role while it improve my
communication skills and encourage me to talk with stranger people instead of being
shy. However I was the movie script writer and we just got maximum 2 minutes ,I
decide and give suggestions of what are we shooting that day, and shortcut for our film
opening sequence by not changing the movie plot itself .
Storyboard :- I analyzed the shooting script and the movie script and decide to make a
storyboard the reason why I made a storyboard is because when I storyboard a video
I'm setting up a plan for production including shots we will need the order that it will
laid out and how the visual will interact the script, a storyboard is a starting point or
suggested through line around which I can plan your coverage all the angles you will
shoot of a scene as it ensure me not forgetting any scenes and helps me piece together
the video according to my vision .
FINAL TITLE
We met as a group together and decided to chance the title and
have a final one by improving the old title we deiced to name our
film 'friendship'
The reason why we choice this name because going back to our
opening sequence we can tell that the story is about friendship,
how to be loyal to your friend and care about them, which
teenager nowadays face problem with trusting there friend and
having the wrong friends in there life, Sam tries to save his friend
from getting kidnapped and went looking for her, so he doesn't
put her life in a risk after all the thing he faced in his life and he
decided to leave the killing company since he was an agent there
for a week and they told him that he will face consequences
while the thing that he face is kidnapping his friend Jessica to
get him back to the company .
WHICH FILM COMPANY WOULD PRODUCE OUR
FILM !
‘Universal Studio’, The reason why I choice Universal Studio because
it’s a large well-known film company they have produced many
crime, action and horror films such as Furious 7, Ouija, The boy
next door and etc . This is a spectacular company to produce with
because many people care and recognize the production company
and its been producing film since 1912, all of the major films that
have had good hits have been produced by ‘ Universal Studios’
BEHIND THE SCENE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvukwQLl8SM&feature=youtu.be
This video includes all the part we filmed from the beginning without any editing.
The reason why I put it is to show all the original clips we filmed before I produce
the first editing, to get an clear idea how I edit my movie without changing the
story plot.
FIRST EDITING
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrxlDdDsw3c
This was my first editing part there would be some changes in the second
part due to some missing video part ,each one of us in the group
decided to do individual editing so that we can come up with different
ideas and come with an conclusion of good opening sequence.
Date : 1/3/2016 - I tried to make the
opening sequence appealing as much
as I can so it attract our target audience
and customers to watch the movie, I
decided to begin with the scene where
Sam try to reach the gun and add some
action sound effect to make it better.
FIRST EDITING
Date: 1/3/2016 - I added an rewind tape
sound effect to show what's the reason of
the first part of the opening sequence, so
that the audience will get an idea upon the
movie
Date :- 2/3/2016 - After editing the
last part I export the movie as an
MP4 video clip.
FIRST EDITING
Date:- 5/3/2016 - Due to some
error and mistakes that occur in
the first video editing I edit it in a
different way to make it a better
version.
Date:-5/3/2016 - Uploading the first
editing in YouTube.
SECOND EDITING
This is my final individual editing. the reason why I did a second final editing
because I there's a lot of missing parts in the first editing and the sound
effects wasn't placed on the right place.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34Mpy4PkjNI
Date :- 6/3/2016 I improved the sound
effects that I used and placed them in the
right place so it match and collaborate
with the scene.
Date :- 6/3/2016 I added an extra scene, try
to cut the bits that I don't need it to appears,
I also added different sound effects , music (
Diegetic and Non- Diegetic sound ) to
create atmosphere to the film.
SECOND EDITING
Date :- 9/3/2016 Editing the final
sound effect to export it as an Mp4.
OPENING SEQUENCE
After all the ideas we collect from each other editing we decide to make a final
opening sequence and share all the special ideas together . We questioned
our self 2 question
1. What will make our opening sequence unique then others?
2. How would we merge all the ideas from our editing together, and make the
opening sequence understandable?
This is our final product that we came up with :-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixAlTlkPvmc
1. As can be seen in the first part we added an image of the MPAA green
preview screen , this is for all the aspiring filmmakers that want to create a
trailer with the green rating intro at the beginning, which means that this it is
appropriate for audience in theaters, taking into account what movie the
audience is about to watch while it been approved by the motion picture
association of America, In.
OPENING SEQUENCE
2. We added a slow motion scene which shows a close up of the hand and Incidental
music ( Heart beats sound effect) I used it to provide a sound background in the first
scene to present mystery (Non-Diegetic sound ) the characters wouldn’t be able to
hear it .
3. We added the scene where Jessica and Sam meet together (Two shot) ,
which is a flashback to show the chronological narrative by going
backward in time to recall the past event ( The reason behind the first
scene we add) , I also used an Incidental music to show that its a thriller
movie , however I used two sounds (Diegetic and Non-Digetic
sound) , Diegetic sound , dialogue between Sam and Jessica and Non-
Diegetic sound when we added an Incidental music a background music .
4. I added a black image with a white text in a medium font, which creates
enthusiastic feeling to the audience, we used the text “When everything
seems to be normal”.
OPENING SEQUENCE
5. We merge the scene where Sam and his friend in the restaurant waiting for Jessica,
we added an Incidental music, and dialogue between Sam and his friend .
6. Close Up shot of Sam phone to show Jessica calling, we added an Iphone ringtone
sound effect .( Diegetic sound ).
7. We used cutaway, its a brief shot that momentarily interrupts the main action of a
film by showing a related action, by showing Sam leaving his friends and pick up the
phone . We used an Incidental music (Non-Diegetic) to show action and added
a Foley that we created of the kidnapper (Diegetic ) .
8.I added a black Image with a white text in a medium font, to tell the audience when
is the movie going to be released “This March”.
9. Add the scene where Sam living a healthy normal life (Medium -Close Up
shot) with an Incidental music.
10. Before the 11th part starts I have added the ‘20th Century Fox’ to be our movies
“Film Distributor” as this company is a major and popular American Film Studio.
OPENING SEQUENCE
11.We placed the scene where the beginning of the fight between Sam and
the kidnapper happens and add an Incidental music.
12.We added a black Image with a white text in a medium font, in between the
fight to create excitement and to tell the audience who’s it produced by .
with an Incidental music.
13.Continue the fight between Sam and the kidnapper, we made it shorter so
that it doesn’t take a long of time .Incidental music
14.The final part I add Sam when he got killed with a heart beats that we used
in the beginning(Non-Diegetic) and gun sound effect (Diegetic ) .
OPENING SEQUENCE
From an overall perspective I think that the opening sequence went the way
we planned it to be, I followed the story plot and the storyboard perfectly.
However we didn’t had any difficulties in editing but we had difficulties in
the restaurant, the manager thought that we are making a bad
advertisement about the restaurant and in the transportation since each
place was far from each other we tried to solve it and scheduled our
timing dates of filming in different locations, we planned to do it this way
so it becomes easier for us. It toke us 2 weeks to shoot the film since we
used to shoot it mostly on weekends. While it took us a long time for
editing because we did it individually to collect ideas from each other’s
for the final opening sequence while we weren’t sure about our ideas so
many ideas have been added . We used Foley in some of the clips to
create the kind of feel and verisimilitude, for example the part when the
kidnapper replayed back on Sam.
We made an opening sequence which follows our genre Thriller/Horror.
With a help of Imen, Shafiq and myself (Fatima AlSayegh) we were able
to work together as a team and contribute. We had many volunteers
from our friends to participate with us in acting.
THEORIES THAT WE INCLUDED WHILE FILMING
We used Todorvo theory which helped us in filming the video and judge
them upon theses consequences :-
1. Equilibrium : Right track , Everything is good
2. Disruption : Something goes wrong
3. Recognition : Something is wrong
4. Resolution : Resolve the problem
5. Equilibrium: Return to new Equilibrium
1. Equilibrium :- Sam has powers he decided to hide it and live a
normal life , by doing sport exercises in Aspire park.
2. Disruption :- Jessica get kidnapped , meanwhile Sam and his
friends didn’t receive a call and waiting for Jessica.
3. Recognition :- Kidnapper calls Sam from Jessica phone , Sam
recognized that his friends are facing the consequences .
4. Resolution :- Sam and his friend was looking for Jessica.
5. Equilibrium :- Sam find the kidnapper and saves Jessica .
1. Equilibrium
2. Disruption of
the Equilibrium
3. Recognition of
the disruption
4. An attempt to
repair the damage
5.New
Equilibrium
MATCH ON ACTION
We used match on action or cutting on action as an editing technique for
continuity editing in which one shot cuts to another shot portraying the
action of the subject in the first shot this creates the impression of a sense
of continuity – the action carrying through creates a “ visual bridge”
which draws the viewers attention from slight cutting or continuity issues.
Its not a graphic match or match cut it portrays a continuous sense of the
same action rather than matching two separate things.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECeXXWRoOkI
SHOT REVERSE SHOT .
We used in our film a Shot reverse shot it’s a continuity editing techniques
used on conversation or simply characters looking at each other . As can be
seen in the photo below that the character is looking at each other and there
having a conservation . It is a shot showing what the character is supposedly
looking at the character in our film is looking at his friend in front of him
and it’s a point of view . We made sure that we don’t distort the audience
scenes of location of the characters in shot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CkSL1k9F1A
LOW ANGLE SHOT
A low angle shot , is a shot from a camera angle positioned low on the vertical
axis, anywhere below the eye line , looking up . Sometimes , it is even directly
below the subject’s feet. We used this shot to show how strong and powerful the
character can preform in kicking and how well does he preform.

  • 3. MOOD BOARD ANALYSIS A mood board is an arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc., intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept. Mood board had showed me a lot about the chosen genre, each character is independent in their photos which shows there body language while the picture or the movie was taking place, which makes the audience know what genre of movie is it, by the name or the picture of the movie the audience will get an idea of what genre is it going to be about before the audience go watch it, e.g. One missed call, the audience will get a clear idea from the name that the movie is going to be a horror genre and its based on a phone call . The photo shows what the characters are capable of their expression, which tells us that there, afraid from what’s going to happen after the call. From an overall perspective I think that the photo's say a lot about each characters and shows how they react to certain situations and how they cope with there feelings
  • 4. TARGET AUDIENCE Since were interested in thriller and horror movies we decided (Fatima AlSayegh (Myself) , Imen and Shafeq) to film a Thriller/Action mmovie for our coursework. Our target audience mostly who enjoy crime thriller, with some action. Mostly ages between 16-35 and targeted between the both gender "Female and Male". As it shows looking back at our questionnaire's, many students and also adults do enjoy crime thriller and would go watch this movie because the film involve violence, killing, blood, knife and revenge scene . Our target audiences include females because 60% of the females now days enjoy watching thriller movies and there more into it , but also because of the story plot, the drama, romance and comedy scene which makes them laugh and more emotional . E.g. " Ride Along 2" Ben and Angela will get married . Males enjoy mostly the car racing and the gun shots in the movie . They want to see this because of the excitement. So overall males and females on the age group of 16-35 is our target audience. I went through a lot of thriller story plots and thriller opening sequence movies to give me an idea of what we should include in our opening sequence and what makes our opening sequence and plot special then others, each one of us decide to have an individual research and then merge all the ideas together to film an opening sequence.
  • 5. PRIMARY RESEARCH – QUESTIONNAIRE The following 10 questions are designed to help us identify our target audience and use it for market research advantage of the use of questionnaire:- • Large amount of information can be collected from a large number of people in a short period of time and in relatively cost effective way. • Can be carried out by the researcher or by any number of people with limited The main reason we used questionnaire because its an easy way to analyze or evaluate what people like and help us for the movie opening :-
  • 6. PRIMARY RESEARCH – QUESTIONNAIRE • Older age group of people prefer Comedy, Thriller ,Horror and Romance .As they say that they chose to watch thriller movie mainly because of violence that took place . • Almost every person who filled in the questionnaire had different genre of films that are based on a true story and filmed different perspectives. • People who is in the age group of 18+ prefer to watch the trailer of the movie before watching the full movie or the opening sequence. • Females enjoy Romantic , Comedy films more then thriller.

  • 8. AUDIENCE ANALYSIS – QUESTIONNAIRE In my point a questionnaire has helped me to know more about people taste of movies and that most people would go and watch the film because of the story plot and the action scene that will took place in the movie. Most of the people had chosen knife and shooting films as their favorite, such as " Mission Impossible" and "Rid Along 2" because these films have a lot of violence, blood and killing scene. Many of the student prefer immediate action and explosion's because this is what grabs their attention and makes them want to see more, and the plot of the movie especially is more important to them . The adults prefer the story plot and the actors that will took place in the movies, how good do they play the role. My role was to type out the questionnaire and choice particular questions which help us to choice our target audience and give us an idea of what our customers like to see in opening sequence..
  • 9. SECONDARY RESEARCH – NOTES ON CREDIT SEQUENCE Ride Along 2 :- • Factual text • Loud dramatic club music, cups, people dancing, boat, laughing, blood • Editing :- very quick camera movements • Main characters established • Low lightning used at the killing scene • Set the story straight away - finding the criminal • Dark colors, room, killing
  • 10. SECONDARY RESEARCH – NOTES ON CREDIT SEQUENCE Mission Impossible :- • Clam dramatic music (soft, action) • Location takes place • Gets to the point straight away • Spying on other countries • Mid shot was used to show there facial expression
  • 11. SECONDARY RESEARCH – NOTES ON CREDIT SEQUENCE One Missed Call :- • Soft scary music • Door bell sound, foot steps, Windows • Closing and opening of windows, breathing sound and screaming of a girl calling help • Shows ending, and what's the movie talking about • Close up camera shot, wide shot, extreme wide shot
  • 12. CONCLUSION – CREDIT SEQUENCE All the films start differently with all different stories. “Mission Impossible – Rouge Nation” starts with factual writing on the screen and loud music takes place in the boat, the audience wont see the main character yet until they will be introduced, we think the introduction was very good because of the effects they use, and different kind of shots, and it also sets the story straight away. "Ride along 2" gets to the story plot straight away and gets to the point. There isn’t much special effects in the introduction, it is simple, which we liked .Overall we think the introduction of the movie is very engaging and grabs the audiences attention straight away. "One Missed Call" from the beginning of the movie it tell the audience that it's a horror genre and gets to the story plot straight away. There's a lot of effects in the intro and different scary sound effect. Overall we think that its eye catching
  • 13. DIEGETIC & NON DIEGETIC SOUND • A diegetic sound is a source which is visible on the screen ,which means it is implied to present by the action of the film e.g :- Voices of characters, sounds made by objects • A diegetic sound can be either on screen or off screen depending on whatever its source is within the frame or outside the frame. • Another term for diegetic sound is “actual sound” • Non-diegetic sound whose source is neither visible on the screen nor has been implied to be present in the action. e.g:- mood music, narrator’s commentary and sound effects which is added for the dramatic effect. • Non-diegetic sound is represented as coming from the source outside story space. • Another term for non-diegetic sound is ” commentary sound”
  • 14. MOVIE ANALYSIS - RIDE ALONG 2 I have chosen this film ‘Ride along 2’ to analyze because I think within just the credit sequence it tells a lot about the film itself and it also contains much different credit sequence which I can deeply analyze. The main narrative of this film is that after our heroes' last adventure his plans for a quick trip to Miami go bad. With the wedding upcoming, James reluctantly takes Ben with him to Miami to follow up on a lead connected to a drug-ring case he's been trying to crack. In the credit sequence of this film the first thing that appears up is the production company's name and the logo. Universal picture is an American film studio, owned by Comcast through its wholly owned subsidiary NBC Universal, It was found in April 30,1912 (103 years ago) as Universal Film Manufacturing Company in the United States. And it’s known for film such as The Purge, The Fast and the Furious, Unfriended. (Wikipedia)
  • 15. MOVIE ANALYSIS- RIDE ALONG 2 Ride along 2 gives us an idea that the company has many good movies under its banner as it had been around the industry for a long time, raising our expectations of the film itself. The movie targeted an adult audience 18+. They used Establishing shot of the buildings to start the film , its the first shot of a new scene, designed to show the audience where the action is taking place. It is usually a very wide shot or extreme wide shot.
  • 16. MOVIE ANALYSIS – RIDE ALONG 2 By seeing the opening sequence the audience still doesn’t know what’s going on the boat and interested to know farther after all the loud dramatic music that took place inside the boat (Diegetic Sound). As can be seen in the photo that they used high angle to show the boat photographed seem smaller, and less significant . with the use of high shot the destination name "Miami" appears next to the boat in a reflected purple font in the beach which already tells its viewers the location of this film.
  • 17. MOVIE ANALYSIS - RIDE ALONG 2 Different type of camera angels used in the movie but in the opening scene they focused on medium close up to show Antonio Pope and his role in the film which add mystery to the scene. Dramatic loud music was played in the opening scene ( Diegetic Sound) which gives the audience an exciting feeling and adds a dramatic attention to the audience that makes them wonder what is Ride Along 2 is based on.
  • 18. MOVIE ANALYSIS – RIDE ALONG 2 They used a good example of Mise en scene they carefully chose costume, lighting, location and props to create the kind of feel and verisimilitude. Low angle help to give the sense of confusion to a viewer, of powerlessness within the action of a scene.
  • 19. MOVIE ANALYSIS – RIDE ALONG 2 They used 180 degree, the 180-degree rule enables the audience to visually connect with unseen movement happening around and behind the immediate characters and is important in the narration of the scenes. they also added an Incidental music which is an background music to let the audience feel the excitement. (Non- Diegetic ), Dialogue between the three of them ( Foley, Diegetic sound). They used two shot of the two characters having a conversation, they used medium close up shows the spatial relationship of the two characters, who are often in conversation. James Payton and Ben Barber are having a conversation, James refuse to take Ben to Miami.
  • 20. MOVIE ANALYSIS – RIDE ALONG 2 They also used over the shoulder shot ,they use this type of shot when two characters are having a discussion, which shows here that James Payton and Ben Barber are having a discussion, when James agree to take Ben with him to Miami. By using extreme wide shot, the point of this shot is to show the subject's surroundings, which is Ben being stuck in the sea.
  • 21. MOVIE ANALYSIS – RIDE ALONG 2 The aerial shot is an exiting variation of a crane shot, as can be seen in the picture they have take it from a helicopter, they used it at the end of the film in order to establish settings and moment.
  • 22. MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL The opening scene start with a title of "Warner Bros. Picture", It an American company that produces film, television and music entertainment, as one of the major film studios, It's a huge well known company which has a good repetition while it was founded in April 4, 1923 (92 years ago). The audience would understand that it’s a horror movie from the sound of the opening scene and the darkness of the location and the cover of the movie, it target an adult audience (18+), Low key lighting was used a lot especially on the face to indicate mystery and give a donation that it’s a horror/mystery film.
  • 23. MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL From the window knocking , breathing and the scream sound effect that appears in the opening scene of “One missed call” “could tell it’s a horror movie, this represent the title of the film and display what the film is about. It shows a combined genre of thriller and horror movie. This could make the audience wonder what’s going on after the girl scream and what the reason behind her scream is. They also used diegetic and non diegetic sound. To give the audience frightening.
  • 24. MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL 'Mise - en scene' Setting creates both a sense of place and a mood and it may also reflect a character’s emotional state of mind .After the entire fire scene that took place it shows a young girl being evacuated from a burning hospital. A firefighter asks her if her mother is in there, but she doesn't respond. After 2 minutes the main character was introduced Shelley she received a call from her friend and after the call, the mystery begins Shelley hears her cat making strange noises. Shelley walks towards it but after a quick second, she finds it standing on the other side of the pond. She suddenly hears strange murmuring in the pond and out of nowhere, a hand emerges ( Medium Close Up shot) and drags Shelley into the pond, drowning her . The audience could clearly recognize what the movie is talking about, they introduced a female victim in the opening sequence because they know that the female gender isn’t strong.
  • 25. MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL They used different type of shot but mostly they focused on Medium close up to show the character facial expressions. They used Establishing shot of buildings to provide a view from above the subject, the reason why they used this method because its a rewind for the entire thing that happened in the opening sequence, so that the people get excited to know what’s the reason behind all the thing that happened.
  • 26. MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL They also used good example of customs which give a since of terrifying since it’s a horror movie. However they used dim lighting to create a horror threatening atmosphere to the audience and make them feel worried about what’s going to happen furthermore and who’s behind this mask! They used low angle to show the fiscal expression of the people, The added height of the object may make it inspire fear and insecurity in the viewer, who is psychologically dominated by the figure on the screen.
  • 27. MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL Two shot techniques has been used here as can be seen at the first photo they used medium close up to show the type of phone and all the contact and how is it scrolling down by itself . However the second shot they use a zoom lenses, they zoomed into the contact to make the audience shiver from the excitement. Eye level shot is the one in which the camera is placed at the subject’s height, so the actor is looking at the lens, he wouldn’t have to look up or down. Eye level shots are incredibly common because they are neutral and shows the look of the character.
  • 28. MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL Extreme close-up they used a very artificial shot, to show a dramatic effect . To let the audience want to know what's inside the whole .The tight focus required means that extra care must be taken when setting up and lighting the shot . High Angle the camera is elevated above the action using a crane to give a general overview. High angles make the object less significant and scary, the character here is looking at the time.
  • 29. MOVIE ANALYSIS – ONE MISSED CALL Over the shoulder this shot helps to establish the position of each character, and get the feel of looking at one person from the other's point of view. They used 180 degree to show the fiscal expression of the character and how she's terrified from the call.
  • 30. MOVIE ANALYSIS – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – ROUGE NATION From the title of the film the audience would directly recognize that it’s an Action genre film and it’s based on sending an agent a mission in the rouge nation .The story plot of this film is that after intercepting nerve gas being sold to terrorists in Minsk, Belarus, Impossible Missions Force agent Ethan Hunt is convinced he can prove the existence of the Syndicate, an international criminal consortium that the Central Intelligence Agency does not believe exist. The film was produced by Paramount Picture Corporation; it is commonly known as Paramount Studios and formerly known as Famous Players-Lasky Corporation is an American film studio, television production company and motion picture distributor, consistently ranked as one of the “Big Six” film studios of Hollywood.
  • 31. MOVIE ANALYSIS – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – ROUGE NATION Skydance productions is an American film and television production company based at Paramount Picture in Hollywood, California. Skydance was responsible for the feature length of this film. Alibaba picture group is a Chinese film company under Alibaba Group. The film company was formerly ChinaVision Media, of which Alibaba Group bought a majority stake late 2014. It subsequently renamed as ChinaVision as Alibaba Picture Group. Alibaba picture has huge role in Mission Impossible – Rouge Nation they were the investors of the film.
  • 32. MOVIE ANALYSIS – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - ROUGE NATION At the beginning of the opening sequence they used medium close up and set the location names in a black font “Minsk Belarus”, filmmakers choose to shoot on location because they believe that greater realism can be achieved in a real place, however location shooting is often motivated by the film's budget. The audience would be able to recognize the destination by its appearing. They directly used an ( Diegetic) which is dialogue between different character with a incidental music to represent action (Non-Diegetic). Medium close up to show the character and a little of the background, they used a good customs to show the agent is covered up with grass so that he doesn’t show, which tell the audience that he’s in a mission. “Mise en scene” with a high key lighting.
  • 33. MOVIE ANALYSIS - MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – ROUGE NATION Most movies take place over at least a few days of story time, many take places over several months and years, but how can a film be reduced to 100 minute of running time, by the uses of Ellipsis. In the second scene they used Ellipsis shot to show different locations of each character it allow scenes that happen in different locations at the same periods of time to show in the screen. As can be seen they used an establishing shot it is designed to show the audience where the action is taking place.
  • 34. MOVIE ANALYSIS -MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – ROUGE NATION Low angle used when the main character was introduced, the audience know about a particular character right up front, from the action that took place, it increase height useful for short actors like Tom Cruise and give a sense of speed motion. Match on action, cutting on action refers to film editing and video editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action. They used it here to show different type of shot filmed to show the action that are taken place.
  • 35. MOVIE RESEARCH – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – ROUGE NATION They used close up shot and pan right camera movement to show the audience the newspaper that the agent collect, it follows a moving object which is kept in the middle of the frame. They used medium close up shot and dolly in camera movement and high angle to show the audience the opera event that are taken place in the mission. They used dolly shot to gradually focusing the audience on a particular object and character.
  • 36. MOVIE ANALYSIS – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – ROUGE NATION Eye level camera angle with medium close up it allows the audience to feel comfortable with the characters or tell the audience that something might to happen by the look of the character. Extreme close up, extreme close up to show only the eyes, with no background detail its an artificial shot, and can be used for dramatic effect.
  • 37. MOVIE ANALYSIS – MISSION IMPOSSIBLE – ROUGE NATION Over the shoulder this shot used for looking from behind a person at the subject, usually when two characters are having a conversation.
  • 38. FILM CONCLUSION Overall all the films got very good reviews and “Ride Along 2” got the highest rated one the reason for this is because it has a very good story plot with a combination of comedy and shooting scene. Which makes the audience get interested to watch it As will also “ Mission Impossible “ it has a good story plot while it was produced by a famous film company its also well known because of the actor “ Tom Cruise” and has a lot of action, violence and killing scene in it however “One missed call” was the lowest rated between the others while it didn’t get a good review because the story plot was too simple and hasn’t got much story between each character . The introduction didn’t really explain much and throughout the story many people was wondering why did the girl get gripped by someone arms and under the water. From an overall perspective I think that they had a good reviews and this is because of the story plot and the audience reaction
  • 39. FILM THAT HAVE INFLUENCED ME ! The two main films that had influenced me are “ Ride Along 2” and “Mission Impossible” The reason for this are because “Ride Along 2”, gets to the story straight away as it shows in the credit sequence of the movie, the main characters will be mysteries at the beginning and they wont know who’s the reason behind the crimes that took place, it begin with showing each character role in the movie ,e.g.:- Ice Cube as Detective James Payton , Kevin Hart as Officer Ben Barber . The main characters will get gun-shot but they will service and seek for revenge. The second film is “ Mission Impossible” the reason for this is because it shows us who the main character is brave and know how to solve problems since he’s an agent he tries to prove the existence of the Syndicate , an international mysterious in terrorist consortium. I decide to merge the ideas of these two films with our own idea. We will be using some ideas of “Ride Along 2” as the gun shots and the killing part , and “ Mission Impossible” Agent tasks and skills.
  • 40. SHOT REVERSE SHOT • Shot reverse shot is a continuity editing technique used in conversation or simply characters looking at each other or objects • A shot showing what the character is supposedly looking at ( either a point of view or over the shoulder shot ) for example its is followed by a reverse angle shot of the character themselves looking at it, or of the other character looking back at them, for example • Shot reverse shot often ties in with 180 degree rule to retain continuity by not distorting the audience’s sense of location of the characters in the shots (Wikipedia)
  • 41. 180 DEGREE RULE • The rule states that the cameras should remain the same side of an imaginary line • The line is drawn perpendicular to the cameras viewpoint in the establishing shot of the scene • The rule enforce continuity of the film • An example is that in a car chase scene, if the car is travelling from right to left, the next shot must also be shot from the same side, meaning the car has to enter the frame right to left again. • Camera must always be on one side of the line • Never break the rule cause it might create confusion of audience , audience lose focus, become disorientated and miss vital parts of the film

  • 62. HEALTH AND SAFETY We filmed in four different secure location ;- • the first one was in a gym we make sure that all the machines are safe . • The second place is Aspire which was in a public place ,it’s an environmental friendly place and has a panoramic view with no hazards which might harm any participants or damage the equipment , security cameras are everywhere and security police are spread out all over the place. • The third place was at an empty backyard behind the compound. • The fourth place was in the restaurant. • There are no dangerous props being used in any scene. One of the main thing that I was concerned about is the health and safety . I make sure that everything was safe example, location, props, costumes , equipment that have been used to film the opening sequence . Since we filmed in a public places we weren't allowed to use real equipment like gun, knife so we used the fake one which is smellier to a real one .
  • 63. LOCATION We used the gym and the club house in Shafeq compound to film the movie since it has a huge empty places and its still under construction which we found it a good place for filming a horror/thriller movie however we had a lot of choices to shot in different places e.g. the roof, gym, backyard and the club house We will use the gym for the first sense as the main character try to defense himself from the ghost and runaway . We tried to take shots where there was no one in the gym so that the ghost main focuses is on him and his friends. Restaurant the scene where the main character receive an unknown call. Aspire park to film the beginning part of how the boy was living a normal, healthy life.

  • 66. MY MAIN ROLE My main role was to give cooperation of many different creative individuals with possibly strongly contradicting artistic ideals and visions as well as directing the shooting timetable and meeting deadlines. However It is my first time to be a director since Shafeq was the main director and I was the second but he was the main character in some of the scene I choice to be the second director, I faced some difficulties in organizing but later on I fixed it and tried to improve it in the second filming day, check and call the character make sure that there prepared for filming, costumes are ready, equipment, right location and following the right camera movements . It was really fun and I gained a lot of experience in having this role while it improve my communication skills and encourage me to talk with stranger people instead of being shy. However I was the movie script writer and we just got maximum 2 minutes ,I decide and give suggestions of what are we shooting that day, and shortcut for our film opening sequence by not changing the movie plot itself . Storyboard :- I analyzed the shooting script and the movie script and decide to make a storyboard the reason why I made a storyboard is because when I storyboard a video I'm setting up a plan for production including shots we will need the order that it will laid out and how the visual will interact the script, a storyboard is a starting point or suggested through line around which I can plan your coverage all the angles you will shoot of a scene as it ensure me not forgetting any scenes and helps me piece together the video according to my vision .
  • 67. FINAL TITLE We met as a group together and decided to chance the title and have a final one by improving the old title we deiced to name our film 'friendship' The reason why we choice this name because going back to our opening sequence we can tell that the story is about friendship, how to be loyal to your friend and care about them, which teenager nowadays face problem with trusting there friend and having the wrong friends in there life, Sam tries to save his friend from getting kidnapped and went looking for her, so he doesn't put her life in a risk after all the thing he faced in his life and he decided to leave the killing company since he was an agent there for a week and they told him that he will face consequences while the thing that he face is kidnapping his friend Jessica to get him back to the company .

  • 69. BEHIND THE SCENE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvukwQLl8SM&feature=youtu.be This video includes all the part we filmed from the beginning without any editing. The reason why I put it is to show all the original clips we filmed before I produce the first editing, to get an clear idea how I edit my movie without changing the story plot.
  • 70. FIRST EDITING https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrxlDdDsw3c This was my first editing part there would be some changes in the second part due to some missing video part ,each one of us in the group decided to do individual editing so that we can come up with different ideas and come with an conclusion of good opening sequence. • 75. OPENING SEQUENCE After all the ideas we collect from each other editing we decide to make a final opening sequence and share all the special ideas together . We questioned our self 2 question 1. What will make our opening sequence unique then others? 2. How would we merge all the ideas from our editing together, and make the opening sequence understandable? This is our final product that we came up with :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixAlTlkPvmc 1. As can be seen in the first part we added an image of the MPAA green preview screen , this is for all the aspiring filmmakers that want to create a trailer with the green rating intro at the beginning, which means that this it is appropriate for audience in theaters, taking into account what movie the audience is about to watch while it been approved by the motion picture association of America, In.
  • 76. OPENING SEQUENCE 2. We added a slow motion scene which shows a close up of the hand and Incidental music ( Heart beats sound effect) I used it to provide a sound background in the first scene to present mystery (Non-Diegetic sound ) the characters wouldn’t be able to hear it . 3. We added the scene where Jessica and Sam meet together (Two shot) , which is a flashback to show the chronological narrative by going backward in time to recall the past event ( The reason behind the first scene we add) , I also used an Incidental music to show that its a thriller movie , however I used two sounds (Diegetic and Non-Digetic sound) , Diegetic sound , dialogue between Sam and Jessica and Non- Diegetic sound when we added an Incidental music a background music . 4. I added a black image with a white text in a medium font, which creates enthusiastic feeling to the audience, we used the text “When everything seems to be normal”.
  • 77. OPENING SEQUENCE 5. We merge the scene where Sam and his friend in the restaurant waiting for Jessica, we added an Incidental music, and dialogue between Sam and his friend . 6. Close Up shot of Sam phone to show Jessica calling, we added an Iphone ringtone sound effect .( Diegetic sound ). 7. We used cutaway, its a brief shot that momentarily interrupts the main action of a film by showing a related action, by showing Sam leaving his friends and pick up the phone . We used an Incidental music (Non-Diegetic) to show action and added a Foley that we created of the kidnapper (Diegetic ) . 8.I added a black Image with a white text in a medium font, to tell the audience when is the movie going to be released “This March”. 9. Add the scene where Sam living a healthy normal life (Medium -Close Up shot) with an Incidental music. 10. Before the 11th part starts I have added the ‘20th Century Fox’ to be our movies “Film Distributor” as this company is a major and popular American Film Studio.
  • 78. OPENING SEQUENCE 11.We placed the scene where the beginning of the fight between Sam and the kidnapper happens and add an Incidental music. 12.We added a black Image with a white text in a medium font, in between the fight to create excitement and to tell the audience who’s it produced by . with an Incidental music. 13.Continue the fight between Sam and the kidnapper, we made it shorter so that it doesn’t take a long of time .Incidental music 14.The final part I add Sam when he got killed with a heart beats that we used in the beginning(Non-Diegetic) and gun sound effect (Diegetic ) .
  • 79. OPENING SEQUENCE From an overall perspective I think that the opening sequence went the way we planned it to be, I followed the story plot and the storyboard perfectly. However we didn’t had any difficulties in editing but we had difficulties in the restaurant, the manager thought that we are making a bad advertisement about the restaurant and in the transportation since each place was far from each other we tried to solve it and scheduled our timing dates of filming in different locations, we planned to do it this way so it becomes easier for us. It toke us 2 weeks to shoot the film since we used to shoot it mostly on weekends. While it took us a long time for editing because we did it individually to collect ideas from each other’s for the final opening sequence while we weren’t sure about our ideas so many ideas have been added . We used Foley in some of the clips to create the kind of feel and verisimilitude, for example the part when the kidnapper replayed back on Sam. We made an opening sequence which follows our genre Thriller/Horror. With a help of Imen, Shafiq and myself (Fatima AlSayegh) we were able to work together as a team and contribute. We had many volunteers from our friends to participate with us in acting.

  • 82. MATCH ON ACTION We used match on action or cutting on action as an editing technique for continuity editing in which one shot cuts to another shot portraying the action of the subject in the first shot this creates the impression of a sense of continuity – the action carrying through creates a “ visual bridge” which draws the viewers attention from slight cutting or continuity issues. Its not a graphic match or match cut it portrays a continuous sense of the same action rather than matching two separate things. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECeXXWRoOkI
  • 83. SHOT REVERSE SHOT . We used in our film a Shot reverse shot it’s a continuity editing techniques used on conversation or simply characters looking at each other . As can be seen in the photo below that the character is looking at each other and there having a conservation . It is a shot showing what the character is supposedly looking at the character in our film is looking at his friend in front of him and it’s a point of view . We made sure that we don’t distort the audience scenes of location of the characters in shot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CkSL1k9F1A
  • 84. LOW ANGLE SHOT A low angle shot , is a shot from a camera angle positioned low on the vertical axis, anywhere below the eye line , looking up . Sometimes , it is even directly below the subject’s feet. We used this shot to show how strong and powerful the character can preform in kicking and how well does he preform. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOfeU5ldnn8
