  1. Also we had approximately 60 staff from GOTAFE participated in a program with Federation University to complete the Graduate Certificate in Education (Tertiary Teaching). A requirement of the course was to use the ePortfolios to record all their reflections, photos, videos, resume or files to the ePortfolio, staff had a choice of using the Federation University or GOTAFE Mahara ePortfolio.
  2. As the eLearning Officer I ran training session, created help videos and supported one on one to staff at GOTAFE who was completing this qualification. My ulterior motive was to get staff well trained so that they would introduce the platform to their students, and I must say it worked as a lot of these staff are now using ePortfolios with their students or about to introduce them.
  3. One of these teachers was Jo O’Mahoney who is an Electrical teacher. She introduced ePortfolios to Certificate III in Electrical students who attend weekly and were mainly teenagers. A group was set up and the students had the option to share their page developed in the ePortfolios with the group.
  4. Each week she would allocate time for them to write in their ePortfolios and after 2 months the students started to become independent in writing and uploading in their portfolios but she maintain time in class to do this.
  5. Another group we introduced ePortfolios to was the Pathways students to allow them to improve their writing skills and using technology. Students used the journals to reflect on questions that were given to them by their teacher.
  6. The three groups were surveyed and the results of this survey are as follows: The major of the students were from the electrical dept and the results to some of the questions were The majority found the ePortfolio Interface user friendly They updated weekly to their journals The majority rated the training as exellent to very good.
