1. Research into Equipment
WHEN SHOOTING MY MUSIC VIDEO, I WILL
BE USING A RANGE OF EQUIPMENT IN
ORDER TO GET THE BEST POSSIBLE
OUTCOME. IN THIS PRESENTATION, I HAVE
ANALYSED AND SPOKE ABOUT THE MAIN
PIECES OF EQUIPMENT WHICH WILL HELP
ME USE THEM TO MY BEST ABILITY.
2. Camera – Canon 550D
Of course, my most important piece of equipment when it comes down to shooting will
be the camera.
This particular camera is known for it’s excellent image quality and HD video which is a
positive aspect for both my music video and the other two ancillary tasks.
According to reviews, the Canon 550D is said to be great for low light shots which means
I will also be able to shoot in darkness without much trouble to create great looking
effects.
The camera also includes a 18.1 megapixel CMOS sensor and 1080p HD video recording
(this displays the HD quality I will be able to shoot in, therefore making my music video
look professional).
The quick control screen also means I will be able to manage the settings easily and get
the kind of shots I want to.
With this camera, I will also be able to experiment with the shallow focus – something I
wanted to include in my video since the beginning of the planning process.
As I have worked with this camera before in my previous A Level and GCSE media
studies, I will feel comfortable with handling this piece of equipment.
3. Tripod
Although this piece of equipment is perhaps less significant than the others, it will still
play a big part in the way I shoot my video smoothly without the use of handheld
movement.
I feel as though my using a tripod I will be able to easily include everything in the camera
frame that I want to be seen in my shot.
The tripod also allows me to pan, tilt or shoot using smooth movements. This aspect, will
be able to give my music video a more professional look.
The specific tripod I will use can be adjusted according to height. This is important to
take into account when shooting any low or high angle shots.
The tripod will also have a 3-way tripod head with a quick release plate.
Although tripods are apparently easy to use, this will be my first time handling this piece
of equipment so I will have to take some time in learning about the different features .
4. Software Programme – Adobe Premiere Pro
This piece of equipment will be used after I have shot my video, in order to edit the
footage .
I will use this programme when placing all my shots together to produce a video sequence
along with my chosen music/song.
Premiere Pro is also known for its high quality editing features which again, will make
my video appear professional. This software is also used by broadcasters such as the BBC
so it is clearly a great editing application.
Premiere Pro also has many admirable and helpful features, especially when it comes
down to editing lengthy videos (such as a music video) including master clip effects,
sequence dragging and fast editing workflow.
This is a programme I will have access to at school therefore I will be able to work on my
video editing there and will have easy access to it.
This is also a piece of equipment I have used previously, although not as much, so I will
be able to learn many new software functions.
5. Software Programme - Photoshop
Photoshop is another editing programme, however I feel as though I will use this before I
place my footage into Premiere.
I have used this programme a lot before for editing techniques such as touch ups,
removing backgrounds and changing the colours of images. With previous experience, I
will be able to use these useful features for my music video.
Not only will it help with my music video, my previous experience will also be helpful
towards creating my other two ancillary tasks – the digipak and the album poster.
The different tools and layers I can create will also be useful when it comes down to the
editing process.
Some of it’s tools include the pen tool, the magic wand, the eraser, cropping and slicing .
All of these tools work on different parts of the image, yet video editing can also be used
in Photoshop.
I will also have access to Photoshop in school in order to develop my work.
