EE372 Lab Assignment Intro to Process Control
Experiment 1
Consider problem 1.26 in the textbook. Create a spreadsheet that solves the
response to the step
change from sec to sec in .5 sec increments. Plot your results. Cut and paste
your
tabular and graphic results into a Word document. If Excel is not available,
spreadsheet
development software is available as a free download from
http://www.openoffice.org/. Also,
consider the alternative of creating a table and filling in the correct values from
your calculator.
Experiment 2
Consider problem S.1.1. Determine a solution. Refer to the solutions to odd
numbered problems
in the back of the textbook. Write a procedure to start-up this process from an
empty tank with
the product below temperature. Then, write a procedure to shutdown the
process from a tank at
the proper level to an empty tank. Also add a recommendation to improve
level control. Add this
information to the Word document from Experiment 1 above. Make sure you
have included your
name in the title page of your document.
Experiment 3
Refer to problem S1.8. Provide a description of each element in the P&ID
diagram and the signals
2. that connect the element. Describe the nature of the control loops shown.
Explain the purpose of
the PLC units and the computer. Your explanation should consist of more than
one paragraph
using proper English sentence structure and punctuation, as in a composition
