Question 2 - AS Media Studies Evaluation
1. How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
2. Our Media project represents gender as male being
the strong leader type character and guardian but
also at the same time we subverted stereotypical
views by putting females as the dominant gender
throughout our project. Usually in Horror/Thriller
films females are represented in a stereotypical
fashion by the use of them being the most afraid/
running away in fear and always being the victim to
the antagonist, with our project though we decided to
go against these stereotypes and subvert the rules.
3. The project also represents age as the older you get the
more wiser, smarter and courageous you become, as
shown by the father like figure. Males in our project are
represented by their stereotypical values thus being
strong, brave and having absolutely no fear. The father
like figure in our project is shown to also comfort the
little girl, trying to calm her down from her scared
status.
Our project also shows the father like figure to be a
stereotypical working man through the use of a white
shirt, black trousers and plain black tie.
When the little girl screams the father like figure rushes
in to say what’s wrong this shows that the father like
figure is trying to protect the little girl from harms way.
4. Our project stereotypes children as being
afraid of nightmares all the time and males as
the stronger more knowledgeable type person
than that of the little girl. The little girl seen
below is depicted as a typical child through
the use of the bright pink hearted pajamas and
the scared reaction of her clutching on to the
teddy bear when terrified as well as the
stereotypical double ponytail seen as child like
by many people
