2. The band Muse are made up of Matthew Bellamy, Christopher Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard. They have been labelled as many genres, particulary alternative rock and progressive rock. Their new album the Resistance was released on September 14th of this year. This is their fifth studio album and was released to coincide with a UK arena tour. New albums or singles are marketed and promoted heavily, usually by advertising, both physical (such as in magazines or posters) and on the internet (via the bands Myspace etc). Muse have their own Youtube channel to promote the band, which features videos of them live as well as official music videos, studio recordings and appearences on TV. The background of their Youtube page has been set to be the album artwork from The Resistance, and at the top is a linked banner leading to iTunes where you can listen to and download the tracks.

4. Their channel currently has 65565 subscribers, and included on it is a tour schedule and another linked section to buy merchandise, some of which features the new album. The main video on the page is for the song 'Uprising' from the new album. The band also have a Myspace http:// www.myspace.com /muse which like the Youtube also has a background of the new album artwork and a large linked banner at the top to iTunes. On their Myspace you can listen to all the tracks and add one of them to your own Myspace page, which could be another way of promoting the band by friends hearing it on your page and deciding to download it if they like it. Like any other band Muse has a website http:// muse.mu / to promote the new album and the band. This includes tour dates, a media player, latest news about the band and what they're doing, a forum, shop, discography and photo gallery. The Resistance is advertised by a large banner at the top of the page with a link to buy it. It is promoted as being 'available on MP3, CD, CD+DVD, and Deluxe Box Set...' showing that they are trying to appeal to as many people as possible by using different formats that different types of people and age ranges would like. For example a teenager would probably like the album in MP3, whereas a 'die hard' fan would appreciate the Deluxe Box Set. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8KQmps-Sog
