@solarwinds
• All the things we hate about alerting can be solved with:
• Structure
• Fine-tuning
• Strong processes
• Remember, your network is a fluid environment, so alerting
customizations and fine-tuning should be fluid as well.

Resolving Alerting Issues
6. 6
@solarwinds
• Reports are for looking at historical trends, analysis, and occurrences
• Don’t add unneeded data in your reports
• Use the report to find the problems
• Don’t “candy coat” the issue
• When you are having trouble creating an alert, “THWACK it!”

Reports – A Historical Look
7. 7
@solarwinds
• The more Orion modules implemented, the more you see with
alerts and reports
• The better you understand your environment, the more
meaningful the monitoring data is … let the Orion Platform help
with it!
• Make sure you report on your alerting!
• Bring in the experts
