3. What do we work in
Year 3 class:
We only work the sounds
children already know in Spanish.
Follow the tutor teachers’
rhythm.
We teach them the real action
that corresponds with the sound.
We use one o two vocabulary
words to teach each sound.
4. How do we teach the
sounds?
Let’s start with the sound
/A/1. Show the vocabulary drawing to teach
related to this sound – APPLE
2. Make emphasis on the initial sound
/A/: AAAAAAA APPLE. We say a few
times and then children repeat
3. Counting apples: Count the apples and
put them in the /A/ basket.
6. How do we teach the
sounds?
1. Prepare some crowns so children can
take them home
2. Overwrite with a marker the letter
sound /A/
3. Colour the apple
Session 2: Overwriting /A/
letter sound
8. How do we teach the
sounds?
1. Introduce the characters of the
story
2. Tell the story “Ten Apples up on top”
(in this case is a video)
E:3 añosJolly phonics4. Aten apples up on topTen Apples Up On Top song in the
style of Jason Mraz.wmv
3. Go to the Jolly Phonics corner and
stick on the mural apples on top of
each character
4. Dance and sing the song in class
Session 3: Story time
10. How do we teach the
sounds?
1. Overwrite the sound letter /A/ with
a red marker (this way we also work
colours)
2. Cut apples in halves and stamp them
on the worksheet
3. Eat apples
Session 4: Working time
12. What do we work in
Year 4 class:
We start teaching the sounds following
the groups order.
We only teach the simple sounds which
are pronounced the same in Spanish.
The structures of the lessons are almost
the same with each sound.
We teach them the real action that
corresponds with the sound.
We use between 3 and 6 vocabulary words
to teach each sound.
14. How do we teach the
sounds?
Let’s start with the sound
/CK/
1. Children find the letter sound we are
going to work on (in rice, throughout
the class...)
2. Then, they have to say words with
that sound (help them if needed:
colours, numbers, weather...)
3. Go to the hall and stick the letter
sound on the Jolly Phonics mural. As
there are many drawings on it (the
ones that have been already studied),
16. How do we teach the
sounds?
Session 2: Whole class
activity
1. Children have to remember the sound
learnt and some of the words.
2. Teach them the action related to the
sound
3. Make the whole class worksheet (this
way, they will know what they are
expected to do next day)
18. How do we teach the
sounds?
Session 3: Working time
1. Make the worksheet. First, we do it all
together on the digital board (to complete
it, I always use a colour that has the sound
we are working on, children have to look for
it and we check if the answer they give me
is correct or not)
2. Then, they have time enough to finish the
worksheet.
3. Check it
4. If there is time left, we play a revision game
to go through all the sounds learnt until that
day
20. What do we work in
Year 5 class: We teach them all the sounds following the rhythm
established by the method
We always Follow the same structured lesson plan:
1. Tell the story
2. Look for the words with the sound learned
3. Learn the song.
4. Sometimes, we revise all the songs in the group
we are in
5. Make an activity related to the sound we have
learnt (worksheet or experimental activity)
They already know the actions for each sound, so when we
tell the story, they can recognize the reason of making
each action for the different sounds,
We introduce new vocabulary related to the sounds. This
way we extend their vocabulary word bank
21. How do we teach the
sounds?/F/ sound: Sinks or floats?
22. How do we teach the
sounds?/U/ sound: “Under my
umbrella” song
We taught them a small dance with
umbrellas.
At the end of the day, both classes
went together to the hall, and dance
the song with their umbrellas.
