1. Ex-Situ Soil
Remediation Process
Apex Companies, LLC (Apex) is now offering an Ex-Situ
soil remediation process for hydrocarbon impact soils. This
cost effective treatment has been tested and approved by a
number of states for use in remediation of soils from oil and
gas operations throughout the Midwest and Rocky Mountain
regions. Utilizing an aeration and chemical oxidation
process to remediate hydrocarbon impacted soils, this on-
site technology provides a rapid and permanent solution
to your hydrocarbon impacted soil projects. Apex can also
assist with the site characterization and impact delineation in
preparation for the remediation process at your sites.
The Remediation Process
The process is designed to mobilize and remediate a
site rapidly to provide a quick and beneficial reuse of the
remediated soils. Apex utilizes a combined soil shredding
and screening process with an internal chemical application
process to remediate the hydrocarbons to state and
site specific regulatory limits. Soil screening to facilitate
segregation of materials for specific onsite use can also be
accommodated in the process. Based upon the site specific
characteristics of the soil contamination, the soils are treated
and processed through the shredder with an oxidation
chemical at a rate up to 300 cubic yards per hour. Post
treatment confirmation samples are analyzed to insure the
effectiveness of the remediation.
The process is an excellent choice for large scale projects as
there is an economy of scale in cost per yard to be achieved
with larger soil volumes. Apex will work with clients to
establish a cost per yard rate based on volume to be treated
at each site. Cost per yard per treatment and beneficial reuse
is generally less than offsite landfilling costs. Treatment of
soils containing up to 50,000 mg/kg TPH typically require
only one treatment, higher levels of impacted soils can also
be treated.

Treatable Contaminants:
++ Condensate
++ Crude Oil
++ Diesel
++ Drill Cuttings
++ Gasoline
++ Lubricants and other Refined Products
State Regulatory Approvals
The Process has been successfully used in the following states:
++ California ++ North Dakota
++ Colorado ++ Oklahoma
++ Kansas ++ Texas
++ Louisiana ++ Utah
++ Montana ++ Wyoming
Acceptance of the Process by additional State Regulatory
agencies may be expedited due to their familiarity with
chemical oxidation as a known and proven method of in-situ
remediation of hydrocarbons.
Benefits of the Process
++ Rapid remediation of hydrocarbon impacted soils. Rates of
up to 300 cubic yards/hour are possible with the process.
++ Enables beneficial reuse and segregation of materials for
onsite use.
++ Project funding focused on treatment, remediation and site
closure, not characterization studies.
++ Eliminates potential future landfill liability issues.
++ Cost effective compared to landfill disposal.
++ No long term land farm monitoring required.
++ Zero waste generation.
++ 100% confidence that all soils have been treated and
remediated.
