The Media & Learning Conference is an annual conference that was first organised in 2010 and is organised by the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training and the media company ATiT with the support of the European Commission, DG Education and Culture. The conference supports the wide community of stakeholders, lecturers and teachers, researchers and policy makers and brings them together in a two day event The conference consists of flexible formats that offer many opportunities for participants to network and share their experiences Participants can discover the latest developments, trends and the impact of media use in education and training The aim of the conference is to raise the quality of media use in education and training
This year’s tagline is Harnessing the power of Media to support Learning Key Themes: Encouraging digital and media production skills and competences such as media literacy Development of media-based educational materials for all levels Use and re-use of existing media resources (for example in repositories such as EUscreen) The conference is very flexible and mainly focused on practice, so it’s not a traditional academic conference where focus lies on the publication of research papers. It’s a meeting and sharing opportunity aimed at really supporting the community of stakeholders, practitioners, researchers and policy-makers in their need to explore the whole phenomenon of how media impacts and influences learning.
For those coming from the higher education field there are relevant topics such as Lecture capture and re-use Access and innovative usage of media resources in teaching and learning Video-based practices used by lecturers for collaborative projects Media archives for research and education
The conference aims to be inspirational, showing best practice, highlighting really good examples and illustrating the 'art of the possible’ with demos, showcases, screenings over the two conference days. The conference includes the MEDEA Awards and the finalists of the competition take part in the programme through demonstrations which also ensures a real emphasis on practice and excellence. The MEDEA Awards is a competition that promotes, encourages and rewards creative media-based educational materials. The MEDEA Awards Ceremony will also take place during the conference.
In 2010, 230 participants from 31 countries participated in the conference, which makes for a conference that offers a lot of networking opportunities to participants and speakers.
