1. In the beginning……….
All NKJV unless otherwise specified
How old is the earth?
Reading the bible, it may at first seem that the earth is only about +/- 6000 years old. Working back the genealogy given in
scripture, we see that Adam was born just over 4000 years before Jesus Christ, and it has been roughly 2000 years since Jesus
Christ walked the earth until now. So that would put Adam at about +/-6000 years ago. We also see in scripture the reference
to the 6 days of creation (on the 6th
day God created man), and on the 7th
day God rested. However, we have scientists
claiming that the earth is millions of years old, backing up such claims by evidence (some of which is accurate and some
dubious). All of this can seem very confusing.
But what if there is an explanation, backed up biblically, which explains all of this?
Once this is revealed, the pieces of the puzzle begin to fit perfectly together. I hope to explain this below.
First some points to ponder…
1) If we look out into space, we see millions of stars. If we were to take the picture of the Orion galaxy (the one seen in the
earlier DVD “Indescribable”), and this galaxy is 31 million light years away, then how long did it take for that light to
reach us? A: 31 million years.
2) If we were to look at the fossil record of ‘dinosaurs’, we find that the bones of these creatures (which look nothing like
any living creatures on earth at the moment) are covered under a lot of earth and mud. Where did these creatures come
from?
3) The very petrol that we use in our vehicles come from fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are fuels which come from under the earth
which were made from dead plants and animals. This process is not a short process, but could take millions of years to
form the fuel by natural processes.
The points above are very compelling, and at first glance may seem to contradict the bible. But do they? The best way to
explain this is to start off with the conclusion and then support this with biblical evidence. Doing it the other way around may
seem too confusing:
The Conclusion
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. There was a beginning, because God says there was a beginning. God
does not state how long ago this beginning was. It could be billions or trillions of years ago. It is not for us to know the exact
date or time. Note that the earth was also created ‘in the beginning’, in other words not 6000 years ago. Mankind was not the
first intelligent species created. How do we know this? Because God says in the bible that the angels shouted for joy when the
earth’s foundations were set (see Job 38 v4-7). These angels were not created in the 6 days between the creation of light and
the creation of Adam. We also know that Lucifer was a fallen angel, and this had to have happened long before he (Satan)
tempted Eve. We also know from the word of God that Lucifer was in Eden long before Adam was placed in Eden. The fact is
that Lucifer was given dominion on earth long before Adam. We know that pride was found in Lucifer, who wanted to
become like God, and that Lucifer led a rebellion together with one third of the angels against God. We know that Lucifer was
cast down into hell with one third of all the angels (who subsequently became known as demons). We know that hell was
created by God for the purposes of holding Satan (Lucifer’s new name) and the demons. We know that God brought complete
destruction to the earth by means of a flood (not the flood of Noah) and that in Genesis 1v2 we find the state of the earth as
being “without form and void”. We know that God’s plan and purposes for the earth will be fulfilled. We know that God
started again with the first man “Adam”, and that he was given a partner “Eve”. We know that the re-creation event lasted 7
days. We know that these were 7 physical days, since it says in Genesis 1 v5,8,13,19,23,31 “So the evening and the morning
were the first day” etc. The ‘day’ referred to here is not an indefinite period of time, since the bible is clear that there was
evening and then morning.
A lot to digest? Sometimes you have to dig for gold nuggets.
2. Now the biblical evidence……
Revelation 22v13
13
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Psalm 90v2
2
Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to
everlasting, You are God.
Psalm 106v48
48
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, From everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, “Amen!” Praise the LORD!
This points to a God before time began, for He is the very first, and from the everlasting past. God also refers to
himself as the beginning.
God states in the Word that He created the heavens and the earth in the beginning.
This is clearly not 6000 years ago.
Job 38 v1-7
1
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: 2
“Who is this who darkens counsel, By words without
knowledge? 3
Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me. 4
“Where were you when I laid
the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. 5
Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or
who stretched the line upon it? 6
To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7
When the morning
stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
God is asking Job (and asking mankind for the bible was written for us) where we were when God laid the
foundations of the earth. Mankind was not yet formed. Who is man relative to God? In what way can we compare our
knowledge and wisdom to that of God? How can man purport to explain creation without divine revelation?
Mankind has come up with theories such as evolution, big bang, and many other ‘creative’ concepts based on shaky
foundations to explain the existence of the earth and life of earth. None of these hold any credibility in comparison to
the word of God.
The other significant piece of information from the above scriptures, were that the angels were there when the earth
was created. This then is an obvious conclusion that angels existed before Adam, before mankind existed.
Ezekiel 28 v11-18
11
Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 12
“Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre (referring to
Lucifer/Satan), and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in
beauty. 13
You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond,
Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was
prepared for you on the day you were created. 14
“You were the anointed cherub (angel) who covers; I established you; You
were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. 15
You were perfect in your ways
from the day you were created, Till iniquity (sin) was found in you. 16
“By the abundance of your trading You became filled
with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing; Out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed
you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the fiery stones. 17
“Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty (pride); You
corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, That they might gaze
at you. 18
“You defiled your sanctuaries, By the multitude of your iniquities, By the iniquity of your trading; Therefore I
brought fire from your midst; It devoured you, And I turned you to ashes upon the earth, In the sight of all who saw
you.
Lucifer was the lead angel (cherub) in charge of praise and worship.
Lucifer was in the garden of Eden
Lucifer became prideful and sinned.
God cast Lucifer to the ground, and brought fire from his midst to devour him.
3. Isaiah records the fall as follows:
Isaiah 14 v12-17
12
“How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened
the nations! 13
For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will
also sit on the mount of the congregation, On the farthest sides of the north; 14
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I
will be like the Most High.’ 15
Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol (hell), To the lowest depths of the Pit. 16
“Those who see
you will gaze at you, And consider you, saying: ‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble, Who shook kingdoms, 17
Who
made the world as a wilderness, And destroyed its cities, Who did not open the house of his prisoners?’
Matthew 25v41
41
Then the king will say to those on his left, “Get away from me! You are under God’s curse. Go into the everlasting fire
prepared for the devil and his angels!
Hell was prepared for the devil and his angels
These are the words of Jesus
And again in Jude below
Jude 6
6
You also know about the angels who didn’t do their work and left their proper places. God chained them with everlasting
chains and is now keeping them in dark pits until the great day of judgment.
Luke 10v18
18
And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
The words of Jesus
Jesus was present to see Satan fall like lightning. The word ‘saw’ here is past tense, in other words it refers to the fall
of Satan mentioned above.
Revelation 12 v4(a)
4
His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth.
One third of the angels in heaven fell with Satan
Revelation 12 v7-9
7
And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8
but they
did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9
So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old,
called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
God destroyed the earth by a flood (not the flood of Noah)
2 Peter 3 v5-7
5
For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the
water, 6
by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7
But the heavens and the earth which are now
preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
‘World that then existed’ means social order that then existed – it refers to a line of peoples or race.
This ‘world’ or race perished, being flooded by water. This refers to the pre-Adamite race that existed previously, of
which Lucifer was part.
This does not refer to Noah, since Noah did not perish.
“The Heavens and the Earth which are now” – this refers to a new heavens and a new earth – this goes to show that
there is a clear distinction between the old heavens and the old earth (with its corresponding ‘world system’ or social
order), and the present heavens and the present earth. At no time did God create a new heavens and a new earth after
Noah. This happened before Adam.
We also note in verse 7 above that the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire until the day of judgment.
4. 2 Peter 3v13
13
Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
In verse 13, Peter refers to the new heavens and the new earth.
So looking back over the last few scriptures, we see a old heavens and old earth being destroyed by the flood (pre
Adamite – Lucifer’s system); a present heavens and a present earth reserved for destruction by fire (Adam’s system
and mankind as we have it now); and a new heavens and a new earth (Jesus Christ’s system in which righteousness
dwells).
Jeremiah 4 23-26
23
I beheld the earth, and indeed it was without form, and void; And the heavens, they had no light. 24
I beheld the mountains,
and indeed they trembled, And all the hills moved back and forth. 25
I beheld, and indeed there was no man, And all the birds
of the heavens had fled. 26
I beheld, and indeed the fruitful land was a wilderness, And all its cities were broken down, At the
presence of the LORD, By His fierce anger.
Genesis 1v2
2
The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over
the face of the waters. 3
Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
Jeremiah 4 above gives a clearer indication of the state of the earth in Genesis 1v2 above.
‘Without form’ - Tohuw (Hebrew) = ‘waste, barrenness, desolation’
‘Void’ – Bohuw (Hebrew) = ‘emptiness’
Tohuw and Bohuw are only used once in the Old Testament, and that is in Genesis 1v2.
Jeremiah saw the desolation and emptiness of the earth after God’s destruction on the old earth and heavens – there
was no light, there was obviously volcanic activity (possibly the cause of there being no light), there was no man (so
obviously man had existed previously), and all the birds had fled (nowhere to be found). The fruitful land was a
wilderness and all cities (which previously existed) were broken down. This was likely due to the flood mentioned in
2 Peter 3 v6 above.
The Gap
There is therefore significant biblical evidence to show that there was a time gap between God’s original creation of the
heavens and the earth (Genesis 1v1), and the state of the earth as being without form and void (Genesis 1v2). We know that
God began again re-creating the earth, restoring all things necessary for there to be life on earth, such as light, sky (water
above the earth), rain, dry ground, vegetation, day and night, seasons, fish, birds, animals, and……man. For God always has a
purpose….And we know that this recreation event happened in 7 physical days since the bible refers to this clearly in the
following verses: Genesis 1 v5,8,13,19,23,31.
