College of Technology And Engineering, MPUAT, Udaipur.
2. It the gas produced by the anaerobic
digestion of organic matter.
A mixture of CH4 and CO2 produced by
bacterial degredation of Organc Matter in
the absebce of air.
It is CLEAN and Efficient FUEL.
3.
4. 1) Methane (CH4) - 55-65%
2) Carbon Dioxide (CO2) - 35-25%
3) Hydrogen (H2) - 0-1 %
4) Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) - 0-3 %
The main Constituent of the Biogas is Methane
(CH4) having up to 65% which is available in RAW
gas.
Calorific Value – 4700-5000 kcal/m3
5. The biogas plants is classified according to TYPE
of Dome of plant of TWO types
A. Floating Dome Type
i. KVIC Biogas Plant
ii. Pragati Biogas Plant
iii. Ganesh Biogas Plant
iv. Ferrow-Cement Digester Biogas Pant
B. Fixed Dome type
i. Janta Biogas Plant
ii. Deenbandhu Biogas Plant
6. Developed in 1954 IARI, New Delhi.
Taken up by Khedi and Village
Industries Commission (KVIC) in 1962.
Partition wall is about ¾th of total height
by
i. Dome
ii. Digester
Gas opening dome is then fitted in the
Guide pipe fitted on top of partition wall
Design available in size from 1-140
m3/day
7. Advantages
i. Cont. Gas Pressure
ii. Minimum gas leakage problm
iii. Higher gas Production
iv. Scum formation is minimum
v. Pressure is naturally Equilizes
Dis-advantages
i. Higher Cost
ii. Higher maintenance cost
iii. Outlet pipe should be flexible. Req.
regular attention.
8. Developed by PRAD
(Planning Research and
Action Division), UP in
1978.
This plants costs about 20-
30 % less than KVIC
plant.
9. It is the Advanced Version of
JANTA Biogas Plant.
Require less Lbour and time
required for Construction
10. Advantages
i. No Maintainance Req.
ii. Longer Working life.
iii. Gas Production is more than
Floating Drum type.
iv. As Underground construction the
heat insulation is better, therefore
the rate of gas production is
uniform during night time
Dis-advantages
i. Requied Skill mansons for
Construction
ii. Variable gas pressure
iii. Problem of Scum formation
11. Divided in to TWO parts
A. Environmental Factors
1. Temperature – Mesophilic(35C), Thermophilic(55C) and Psychrophilic(10C)
2. pH – 6.5 to 7.5 Neither acid nor alkaline
3. C/N Ratio – 25 to 30 : 1
B. Operational Factors
1. Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) - >20C = 30days, 15-20C = 40days and <15C = 55days
2. Slurry Concentration - 8-10 % total solid content
3. Mixing & Stirring – Homogeneous Mixed before fed into digester
