LOW COST SOLAR ECG WITH BLUETOOTH TRANSMITTER

Abstract:
The cardiovascular crisis is glaringly evident in developing countries. Both the urban and
rural areas are experiencing a mounting epidemic of cardiovascular (CV) disease, which was
until recently considered a disease of the 'urban rich'. Cardiovascular disease is the world's
leading killer, accounting for 16.7 million or 29.2 per cent of total global deaths every year. The
World Health Organization estimates that 60 per cent of the world's cardiac patients will be
Indian by 2010. The reported prevalence of coronary heart disease (CHD) in adult surveys has
risen 4-fold over the last 40 years and even in rural areas the prevalence has doubled over the
past 30 years. Electricity losses in India during transmission and distribution are extremely high
and vary between 30 to 45%.Due to shortage of electricity, power cuts are common in
developing countries of the world which has adversely affected their economic growth.

Existing system:
In the existing system the ECG measurement is carried out in laboratory environment.
This involves high cost and complex machineries. The disadvantage is that the system is not
efficient if there is no power.

Proposed system:
In the proposed system, the ECG measurement system is made portable and it uses the
power obtained from a solar panel. The power from the solar panel is used to charge the battery
and the power from the battery is used to run the measurement system. The measurement system
consists of a PIC Microcontroller, an ECG sensor and a Bluetooth modem. The ECG sensor
gives the ECG normality status and this is analyzed by and sent via Bluetooth by the
microcontroller. This is received and displayed in the PC section.

  • 1. LOW COST SOLAR ECG WITH BLUETOOTH TRANSMITTER Abstract: The cardiovascular crisis is glaringly evident in developing countries. Both the urban and rural areas are experiencing a mounting epidemic of cardiovascular (CV) disease, which was until recently considered a disease of the 'urban rich'. Cardiovascular disease is the world's leading killer, accounting for 16.7 million or 29.2 per cent of total global deaths every year. The World Health Organization estimates that 60 per cent of the world's cardiac patients will be Indian by 2010. The reported prevalence of coronary heart disease (CHD) in adult surveys has risen 4-fold over the last 40 years and even in rural areas the prevalence has doubled over the past 30 years. Electricity losses in India during transmission and distribution are extremely high and vary between 30 to 45%.Due to shortage of electricity, power cuts are common in developing countries of the world which has adversely affected their economic growth. Existing system: In the existing system the ECG measurement is carried out in laboratory environment. This involves high cost and complex machineries. The disadvantage is that the system is not efficient if there is no power. Proposed system: In the proposed system, the ECG measurement system is made portable and it uses the power obtained from a solar panel. The power from the solar panel is used to charge the battery and the power from the battery is used to run the measurement system. The measurement system consists of a PIC Microcontroller, an ECG sensor and a Bluetooth modem. The ECG sensor gives the ECG normality status and this is analyzed by and sent via Bluetooth by the microcontroller. This is received and displayed in the PC section.
