  • 1. FRSA FLASH 24 May 2012 Contents of this news letter are compiled from multiple military family news sources and local area event sources. Material presented does not represent the views or endorsement of the 2nd BSTB, 2 nd BCT or the Army. This material is for personal use by the readers. All readers are encouraged to do further research for all applicable restrictions and guidelines This Information Day brings together Federal, State and non- profit organizations in one location to provide a face-to-face interaction between Veterans, their Families and Survivors. Anyone who has served in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces on Active-duty is considered a Veteran and is eligible to receive benefits. Recent changes in eligibility for entitlements, educational and health, especially for Gulf War and Vietnam-era Veterans, make dissemination of information on services imperative if we as Americans are to honor our debt to our Veterans and their Families. This is a great opportunity for service members to find out about benefits, entitlements and services available to them in an on-the-spot, one-stop information gathering, rather than relying on phone service or having to travel inconvenient distances. There are more than 11 agencies within the North Country dedicated to supporting Veterans of the present and past conflicts providing information on increased, retroactive benefits to Veterans and their Families. Representatives from both Federal and New York State Veterans’ Administrations will be present to help explain benefits and entitlements, both in New York and nation-wide. Representatives will be available to explain new criteria for the awarding of the Purple Heart in cases of Traumatic Brian Injury (TBI). The new program for Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing for Veterans will be represented.
