Summary of Ideas
The genre of my two magazines is going to be rap/hip hop
The colours of my first magazines are going to be grey and red and my second
magazine will be yellow and black because these colours mix well together.
The price of my two magazines will be £2 as this is 50p cheaper then my
magazine of inspiration.
Finally, the size of the two magazines is going to be A4 size which means that
they are average sizes for a magazine.
I will be running through the key aspects of the
magazines and the planning that went into the
creation of it, this will include things like the cost
of the production process and the equipment
used to aid me to make the magazine itself.
I will also include the planning for the designs of
the magazine front covers and double page
spreads which helped me decide on the final
design of the magazine.
Rhythm
Rhythm
The denotation for the name rhythm means that all music has a
rhythm to it weather it is slow or fast.
Hip hop tends to have a fast rhythm so that is why I chose the
name rhythm for this magazine

Brand Identity
Target audience
For the color scheme I am going to be
using bright colors this is because they are
a connotations for hip hop which is a
happy upbeat genre.
The three main colors that I will
be using are red and white.
This is because those colors are
joyful welcoming colors.
The target audience will be
15-20 year olds. This is
because hip hop is more of
a grown up music genre
because of explicit language
in some songs.
The content that is going to be implicated
into the magazine needs to be age
appropriate and appeal to the correct
target audience.
The masthead
must be
interesting
colors and a
well chosen
font that best
suits the name
of the
magazine. This
will make it
easier for
people to
recognize the
magazine
when they see
they see it.
The images that I
will use will only
be images that
capture the
audiences
attention and
intrigue them
into reading the
magazine.
The images being used in the
magazine will be age appropriate
for the target audience so the
reader wont be put off reading
the magazine.
The magazine will be released once a month. This is so the magazine contains
a lot of information that has happened in the previous month.
On every page there will be brand
identity, this means that there will be
logos in the top right of the page. It
will be in bright colors. This is so the
person will be reminded of the
magazine name.

The price of the
magazine will
be about £1.90

The colour of the rhythm magazine is grey and red. This is because it is similar to the
magazine of inspiration, furthermore the two colour go well together and therefore
makes it visually appealing to the audience.
This colour scheme will be carried out throughout the whole magazine to show that it
has a consistent house style.

Magazine of inspiration
Main image: the main
image is a mid shot of
Eminem. A mid shot is
when you can just see
the top half of the
subject and nothing else.
the subject (Eminem) is
a well known artist and
will catch the readers
attention because they
will recognize his face. A
mid shot of the artists
reveals a sense of
authority in the
magazine. This is also
conveyed in the
masthead this is because
Eminem is overlapping
the masthead which
shows that he is an
important person.
Masthead: the mast head is in two different colors and they are faded into one another. This makes the the Mast Head
look more interesting and attracts the readers attention. The mast head is also in a very bold font which stands out to
the reader.
Cover lines: the reason
for side headings is to
give the reader an idea if
what is in the specific
magazine article.
Main headline: the
reason for using a pull
quote on the front
cover of a magazine is
to intrigue the reader
into reading the
magazine.
Addressing the
reader this is used to
entice the reader into
reading the article to
find out the answer.
Double page spread of inspiration
Main image: a long shot camera angle of Bruno mars the reason for a long
shot is to help set the scene and reveal what is around the artist, this
therefore draws the attention from the artist to to other objects in the shot.
Brand identity:
the use of the
letter V is brand
identity for the
company VIBE.
The reason why
they do this on
every page in the
magazine is
because it
increases
advertisement of
the magazine and
helps with the
recognition of the
company.
Title: The use of this
Interesting title is
used to pull the
reader into reading
the extract . The
reason why it pulls
people in is because it
is using play on words.
Furthermore it is in
bold and large font
which catches the
readers attention.
Bold headings: bold headings are used to highlight to
the reader where another paragraph starts and what it is
about.
What I will repeat.
For my magazine I will be repeating the large image on the right hand side of the double page spread. It will be a long shot and have the
subject with another object. The reason why I will be doing this is because it makes the page look a lot more interesting and more
welcoming to read the extract. I will also be using play on words in the title and making it big and bold. This is because it catches the readers
attention and will intrigue them into reading the extract. Brand identity will also be used on the page like the VIBE magazine. This is because
it will give the magazine a professional look and will increase the advertisement of the magazine.
Drop capital: shows
reader where to
start reading
What will I repeat
The main image is something that I will repeat, I want it
to be a whole body picture with an outfit that suits the
genre of music that my magazine covers.
I will also have product placement on my magazine double
page spread that promotes the company this will be located
on the top left of the magazine so people can see it clearly
when they see the main image
I will have the social media links for the website located
at the bottom of the screen so people know where to find
the magazine on social medias like facebook, twitter or
instagram

I think the fonts that I have chosen are good, this is because they are simple and very easy to read and comprehend.
This is useful because the person wants the mast heat to be interesting and easy to read. The fonts that I have
chosen are suitable then because they are bold and eye catching to people and they look professional, on addition it
fits the genre of choice which is Hip hop.
I have chosen this font style because it is easy to read and it is
easy to remember. This is good because then when people see it
in the shops they can recognise it easily.
Target audience
Katz’ theory: according to Katz my magazine will ‘inform and educate’ the audience. This is through using interesting language and images in
order to attract the audience into reading the text. For example within the magazine it consists of interviews with famous people that are well
known, the use of well known celebrities attracts more people that are interested in the specific celebrity. Furthermore if my magazine use
well known people then people will enjoy reading the article more, this is how the magazine is able to inform and educate the audience. The
use of interesting images creates a diversion for the audience because it is enabling them to sit and read an interesting magazine and escape
reality for the duration of reading the magazine.
Hartley’s: Hartley's theory highlights that my magazine should consider Age, gender, class, ethnicity, self-image, nation and family.
They should make sure that the magazine getting published is age appropriate to younger people whop read the magazine, this
means no sign of gore or sexual images. It is also very important that they consider different races before publishing the magazine
this is because there might be some controversial language used that might offend certain people because of their race or
ethnicity. Another thing that it says s gender and self image. These are really important because there might be contexts that
could make people feel they are lower than other people because they are a male or female. Also people might look at their self
differently after looking at a model in an image
Maslow: Maslow's theory mentions 4 different potential outcomes for a reader after reading a magazine these are; social
climbers, care givers, explorers and survivors. Social climbers is when the audience are driven by improving their status in society.
This is important because it gives the audience confidence and a drive to do well in life. Caregivers is when the audience
sympathies with the characters situation. This is important because it gives the audience a chance to escape reality and be
engrossed into a magazine. Survivors is when the audience members want security and routine. This is important because they
have security knowing that the magazine will be published on a set date.
Beat
This Is the second magazine that I did. I will be
repeating what I did for the previous magazine
and highlight what I did for this one.
The denotation of the masthead Beat connotes that the
information in the magazine is going to inform the user about
music and the artists that produce them. If a magazine is up beat
it means it will be a positive magazine to read for people who
enjoy listening to music.
This is a mood board that helps me to
come up with ideas for front covers of

Equipment costs.
This camera is all the photographer will need because it is a good quality and simple
to use camera. The cost of this ‘cannon 700d’ is £569.99 there will only need to be
one camera because there is only one photographer.

For the computer the employees will need something that is easy to edit the
magazines on and has the software that best suits the job role they will be carrying
out for this I have chosen an ‘IMAC’ this is because they are easy to use and have
everything they will need in order to carry out their jobs. The cost of one IMAC will
be £1,049.00 I will need 9 of these for all the employees so it will cost £9,441

For the office space I have selected an office in central London that is reasonably cheap
for the location. It will cost £495 per month for one person. I will only be renting the
office for a couple months (only for the duration of making the magazine. This means it
will cost £8910 for the 2 months for everyone.

Project description For the project I will be analyzing my magazines of
inspirations double page spreads and front covers. I will
also be looking into how they advertise these magazines
and the techniques they use to do this.
Photographer For the photos I had another class member named
‘Jonathan carter’
Reference images and ideas The idea to take the photos came from the images
displayed below.
casting The cast I used for this was myself and Jonathan (the
photographer)
model requirements The model has no specific requirements
however whoever the the person is being
interviewed has to be the photo on the
front cover
Wardrobe requirements For the wardrobe requirements the clothes
have to be relevant to the genre of
magazine. For the clothing it was ‘puma X
trapstar’ which is well known in the
grime/trap scene
Appearance in the photo Along with the correct clothing the pose
used for the photo needs to look relevant to
the type of music in the magazine
Hair and makeup The was no hair and makeup in the photos
because I was wearing a hat and it was at
night.
Where and when The location for the photograph has to be an
urban place because it is a representation of
where grime originated from. It also would help if
it was dark so it adds effects to the photo.
Cost of having staff
• The yearly salary for a person editing a magazine is roughly £40,000.
https://www.indeed.co.uk/jobs?q=magazine+editor&l=london
• The average yearly pay for a publisher is £38,259
https://www.indeed.co.uk/jobs?q=magazine+publisher&l=london
• The average pay for a journalist is
£23,000https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=journalist+salary&ie=UTF-
8&oe=UTF-8&gfe_rd=cr&ei=dgerWJrMG6Wn8weblrTYBw
• For a writer £37,470 is the average pay.
https://www.indeed.co.uk/jobs?q=writer&l=london
• For the photographer I will get a sixth form student as a trainee and pay them £100 a week
so £400.
For the advertisement of the magazine I will be using mainly
social media like face book, twitter and other platforms like
instagram.
The reason why I will mainly advertise on these social media
platforms is because a major percentage of the worlds
population use these or have used them in the past.
This means that if I advertise on these a lot of people will be able
to see the magazine and therefore will bring more people to
read about the magazine.
Cost of printing
I will be printing 200 copies of the magazine when the magazine is first released for the first time to the public. This is so I know
how many people roughly want to read the magazine every month and will give me a rough estimate if I need to order more
copies in the future.
The cost of printing 250 copies of the magazine will cost £290.81
https://print24.com/uk/
Advertising revenue
In my magazine 17 full pages of advertisement which comes to £5,005 a page
so in total it will come to £85,085.
So from the
advertisements the
magazine will make
£85,000
Money made from selling
Overall there are 200 copies in the first month so they will sell at
£2 each and will therefore make the company £400
This will mean that the magazines will profit from the printing
costs by £109.19
Distribution to retailer
http://www.frontlinedistribution.co.uk
I am going to distribute my magazine to all of the big superstores
like Sainsbury's and tesco as thousands of people shop here
every day, which means that lots of people will see my magazine.
There is no set cost to distribute.
Plans for the magazines in he future
If the first month is successful with selling the 200 magazines
then I will increase the amount produced by 200 again. I will do
this until I find out how many magazines I sell a month on
average so I do not waste money on printing costs.
Furthermore I will increase the amount of staff if the profit
increases so I will therefore be able o cover more stories and get
better information from the music industry to put into the
magazine.

Pitch presentation

  • 3. Summary of Ideas The genre of my two magazines is going to be rap/hip hop The colours of my first magazines are going to be grey and red and my second magazine will be yellow and black because these colours mix well together. The price of my two magazines will be £2 as this is 50p cheaper then my magazine of inspiration. Finally, the size of the two magazines is going to be A4 size which means that they are average sizes for a magazine.
  • 4. I will be running through the key aspects of the magazines and the planning that went into the creation of it, this will include things like the cost of the production process and the equipment used to aid me to make the magazine itself. I will also include the planning for the designs of the magazine front covers and double page spreads which helped me decide on the final design of the magazine. Rhythm
  • 5. Rhythm The denotation for the name rhythm means that all music has a rhythm to it weather it is slow or fast. Hip hop tends to have a fast rhythm so that is why I chose the name rhythm for this magazine
  • 7. Magazine ideas for Rhythm Color scheme Masthead Types of images frequency Brand Identity Target audience For the color scheme I am going to be using bright colors this is because they are a connotations for hip hop which is a happy upbeat genre. The three main colors that I will be using are red and white. This is because those colors are joyful welcoming colors. The target audience will be 15-20 year olds. This is because hip hop is more of a grown up music genre because of explicit language in some songs. The content that is going to be implicated into the magazine needs to be age appropriate and appeal to the correct target audience. The masthead must be interesting colors and a well chosen font that best suits the name of the magazine. This will make it easier for people to recognize the magazine when they see they see it. The images that I will use will only be images that capture the audiences attention and intrigue them into reading the magazine. The images being used in the magazine will be age appropriate for the target audience so the reader wont be put off reading the magazine. The magazine will be released once a month. This is so the magazine contains a lot of information that has happened in the previous month. On every page there will be brand identity, this means that there will be logos in the top right of the page. It will be in bright colors. This is so the person will be reminded of the magazine name. price The price of the magazine will be about £1.90

  • 11. House styles for rhythm The colour of the rhythm magazine is grey and red. This is because it is similar to the magazine of inspiration, furthermore the two colour go well together and therefore makes it visually appealing to the audience. This colour scheme will be carried out throughout the whole magazine to show that it has a consistent house style.
  • 12. Name: Will Bekker Candidate Number: rhythm Advertisement Text Image
  • 14. Magazine of inspiration Main image: the main image is a mid shot of Eminem. A mid shot is when you can just see the top half of the subject and nothing else. the subject (Eminem) is a well known artist and will catch the readers attention because they will recognize his face. A mid shot of the artists reveals a sense of authority in the magazine. This is also conveyed in the masthead this is because Eminem is overlapping the masthead which shows that he is an important person. Masthead: the mast head is in two different colors and they are faded into one another. This makes the the Mast Head look more interesting and attracts the readers attention. The mast head is also in a very bold font which stands out to the reader. Cover lines: the reason for side headings is to give the reader an idea if what is in the specific magazine article. Main headline: the reason for using a pull quote on the front cover of a magazine is to intrigue the reader into reading the magazine. Addressing the reader this is used to entice the reader into reading the article to find out the answer.
  • 15. Double page spread of inspiration Main image: a long shot camera angle of Bruno mars the reason for a long shot is to help set the scene and reveal what is around the artist, this therefore draws the attention from the artist to to other objects in the shot. Brand identity: the use of the letter V is brand identity for the company VIBE. The reason why they do this on every page in the magazine is because it increases advertisement of the magazine and helps with the recognition of the company. Title: The use of this Interesting title is used to pull the reader into reading the extract . The reason why it pulls people in is because it is using play on words. Furthermore it is in bold and large font which catches the readers attention. Bold headings: bold headings are used to highlight to the reader where another paragraph starts and what it is about. What I will repeat. For my magazine I will be repeating the large image on the right hand side of the double page spread. It will be a long shot and have the subject with another object. The reason why I will be doing this is because it makes the page look a lot more interesting and more welcoming to read the extract. I will also be using play on words in the title and making it big and bold. This is because it catches the readers attention and will intrigue them into reading the extract. Brand identity will also be used on the page like the VIBE magazine. This is because it will give the magazine a professional look and will increase the advertisement of the magazine. Drop capital: shows reader where to start reading
  • 16. What will I repeat The main image is something that I will repeat, I want it to be a whole body picture with an outfit that suits the genre of music that my magazine covers. I will also have product placement on my magazine double page spread that promotes the company this will be located on the top left of the magazine so people can see it clearly when they see the main image I will have the social media links for the website located at the bottom of the screen so people know where to find the magazine on social medias like facebook, twitter or instagram

This is useful because the person wants the mast heat to be interesting and easy to read. The fonts that I have chosen are suitable then because they are bold and eye catching to people and they look professional, on addition it fits the genre of choice which is Hip hop.
  • 18. I have chosen this font style because it is easy to read and it is easy to remember. This is good because then when people see it in the shops they can recognise it easily.
  • 19. Target audience Katz’ theory: according to Katz my magazine will ‘inform and educate’ the audience. This is through using interesting language and images in order to attract the audience into reading the text. For example within the magazine it consists of interviews with famous people that are well known, the use of well known celebrities attracts more people that are interested in the specific celebrity. Furthermore if my magazine use well known people then people will enjoy reading the article more, this is how the magazine is able to inform and educate the audience. The use of interesting images creates a diversion for the audience because it is enabling them to sit and read an interesting magazine and escape reality for the duration of reading the magazine. Hartley’s: Hartley's theory highlights that my magazine should consider Age, gender, class, ethnicity, self-image, nation and family. They should make sure that the magazine getting published is age appropriate to younger people whop read the magazine, this means no sign of gore or sexual images. It is also very important that they consider different races before publishing the magazine this is because there might be some controversial language used that might offend certain people because of their race or ethnicity. Another thing that it says s gender and self image. These are really important because there might be contexts that could make people feel they are lower than other people because they are a male or female. Also people might look at their self differently after looking at a model in an image Maslow: Maslow's theory mentions 4 different potential outcomes for a reader after reading a magazine these are; social climbers, care givers, explorers and survivors. Social climbers is when the audience are driven by improving their status in society. This is important because it gives the audience confidence and a drive to do well in life. Caregivers is when the audience sympathies with the characters situation. This is important because it gives the audience a chance to escape reality and be engrossed into a magazine. Survivors is when the audience members want security and routine. This is important because they have security knowing that the magazine will be published on a set date.
  • 20. Beat This Is the second magazine that I did. I will be repeating what I did for the previous magazine and highlight what I did for this one.
  • 21.
  • 22. The denotation of the masthead Beat connotes that the information in the magazine is going to inform the user about music and the artists that produce them. If a magazine is up beat it means it will be a positive magazine to read for people who enjoy listening to music.
  • 23. This is a mood board that helps me to come up with ideas for front covers of my magazine Mood board
  • 24. Magazine ideas for Beat Color scheme Mast Head Types of images frequency Brand Identity Target audience For the color scheme I am going to be using bright colors this is because they are a connotations for hip hop which is a happy upbeat genre. This is because the two colours contrast well and they look good when there is an even amount of each colour on a page. This colour scheme will be carried out throughout the whole magazine to show that it has a consistent house style.

  • 35. The reason why I have chosen this font style is because it is bold and stands out. It is good to have this feature on a title page because people will find it easier to see the magazine amongst other magazines on a shelf.

  • 38. project The denotation of the masthead Beat connotes that the information in the magazine is going to inform the user about music and the artists that produce them. If a magazine is up beat it means it will be a positive magazine to read for people who enjoy listening to music. Project description For the project I will be analyzing my magazines of inspirations double page spreads and front covers. I will also be looking into how they advertise these magazines and the techniques they use to do this. Photographer For the photos I had another class member named ‘Jonathan carter’ Reference images and ideas The idea to take the photos came from the images displayed below. casting The cast I used for this was myself and Jonathan (the photographer)
  • 39. model requirements The model has no specific requirements however whoever the the person is being interviewed has to be the photo on the front cover Wardrobe requirements For the wardrobe requirements the clothes have to be relevant to the genre of magazine. For the clothing it was ‘puma X trapstar’ which is well known in the grime/trap scene Appearance in the photo Along with the correct clothing the pose used for the photo needs to look relevant to the type of music in the magazine Hair and makeup The was no hair and makeup in the photos because I was wearing a hat and it was at night. Where and when The location for the photograph has to be an urban place because it is a representation of where grime originated from. It also would help if it was dark so it adds effects to the photo.

  • 41. Advertisement For the advertisement of the magazine I will be using mainly social media like face book, twitter and other platforms like instagram. The reason why I will mainly advertise on these social media platforms is because a major percentage of the worlds population use these or have used them in the past. This means that if I advertise on these a lot of people will be able to see the magazine and therefore will bring more people to read about the magazine.
  • 42. Cost of printing I will be printing 200 copies of the magazine when the magazine is first released for the first time to the public. This is so I know how many people roughly want to read the magazine every month and will give me a rough estimate if I need to order more copies in the future. The cost of printing 250 copies of the magazine will cost £290.81 https://print24.com/uk/
  • 43. Advertising revenue In my magazine 17 full pages of advertisement which comes to £5,005 a page so in total it will come to £85,085. So from the advertisements the magazine will make £85,000
  • 44. Money made from selling Overall there are 200 copies in the first month so they will sell at £2 each and will therefore make the company £400 This will mean that the magazines will profit from the printing costs by £109.19
  • 45. Distribution to retailer http://www.frontlinedistribution.co.uk I am going to distribute my magazine to all of the big superstores like Sainsbury's and tesco as thousands of people shop here every day, which means that lots of people will see my magazine. There is no set cost to distribute.
  • 46. Plans for the magazines in he future If the first month is successful with selling the 200 magazines then I will increase the amount produced by 200 again. I will do this until I find out how many magazines I sell a month on average so I do not waste money on printing costs. Furthermore I will increase the amount of staff if the profit increases so I will therefore be able o cover more stories and get better information from the music industry to put into the magazine.
