− Importance of ITT and recognition as CPD
− Opening of teacher networks towards other stakeholders
− Ownership, control of data and commercialisation
− Privacy, security, safety, identity
Scenarios not mutually exclusive!
1. European Education Network (eNet):
Expansion of eTwinning model
Pro’s
− School exchange becomes part of initial TT and recognition of
CPD
− Expansion towards more stakeholders
− Safe, secure environment for teachers, students and parents to
interact
− Public funding (EU) for independence and sustainability

Con’s
− Centralised governance and structure
− Less favorable in terms of openness, flexibility and
interoperabilty with other networks and spheres of life.
2. MyNetwork: User-centred social networking approach
Pro’s
− Decentralisation and federation across networks
− Flexible, serving a diverse needs and profiles
− Wide variety and choice - Personalised approach

Con’s
− Market fragmentation and individual approaches
− Favours technology proficient users – others may stay behind
− Difficult to engage parents and other stakeholders
− Formal recognition as CPD unclear
3. Intelligent Agents: Technology-focused approach

− Almost like Amazon.com or a music recommender for teaching
− Avatar does the repetitive activities – reduction of workload
− Dealing with information overload and complexity
− Open Educational Resources

− Technology dependence: reliability, dependability, automated
suggestions and decision-making
− Trust, security, privacy,
− Private market solutions only

Autonomous learning & teachers as mentors

− Autonomous learners through personalisation and taking
responsibility
− Different teaching professions: teaching in class, teaching
virtually, student monitoring

− Highly dependent on use of digital technologies for organisation
and administration of learning
− Significant investment in teacher training

INE NETWORKING
By 2025, collaborative technology has
failed in many aspects. Teachers have
spent the last five years substantial
amounts of time learning new networking
applications, but it was not always clear if
and how these technologies improved
their teaching. An alternative group of
teachers has emerged that almost
exclusively teach offline. This new
education scheme offers rotating teachers
working for different schools within the
area. They get to rotate schools within the
city and now dedicate more time
discussing things with other teachers faceto-face.
Once a month, various teachers'
collaboration networking events are
organised. In these events, teachers get an
opportunity to do collaborative projects
with other teachers. S
tudents are also
involved when these events take place
locally. Interacting and collaborating with
students from other schools has increased
student motivation for learning new
things.
5. Technology meltdown: Off-line peer learning

− The face-to-face time is valued
− Collaboration is still embedded in teaching, however in different
ways

Con’s
− Rotating teaching profession can have drawbacks

Workshop 5: Läraryrket 2025. How does the teaching profession look in 2025

  • 1. Teaching profession in 2025 5 stories of possible futures Workshop leader Riina Vuorikari JRC-IPTS
  • 2. In the future, there will be significant changes in what we learn, how we learn, where we learn and when we learn Thus affecting also role of teachers
  • 3. Imagining how the teaching profession could look in 2025, in order to challenge assumptions and stimulate thinking about the present
  • 4. Workshop (45 min) Introduction: 5 possible futures (20 min) 1. Do you think the scenario is realistic? 2. Do you think the scenario is likely to take place in 2025? Vote (5 min): 1. Hands-up for each scenario (yes, no, maybe) 2. Choose 1 scenario you are interested in talking about Group work (15 min) 1. Decide in group: will the scenario take place in 2025? Or not? 2. Formulate 2 reasons why!

  • 6. Crosscutting issues − Highlighting changes in teacher profession − Importance of ITT and recognition as CPD − Opening of teacher networks towards other stakeholders − Ownership, control of data and commercialisation − Privacy, security, safety, identity Scenarios not mutually exclusive!

European Education Network (eNet): Expansion of eTwinning model Pro’s − School exchange becomes part of initial TT and recognition of CPD − Expansion towards more stakeholders − Safe, secure environment for teachers, students and parents to interact − Public funding (EU) for independence and sustainability Con’s − Centralised governance and structure − Less favorable in terms of openness, flexibility and interoperabilty with other networks and spheres of life.

MyNetwork: User-centred social networking approach Pro’s − Decentralisation and federation across networks − Flexible, serving a diverse needs and profiles − Wide variety and choice - Personalised approach Con’s − Market fragmentation and individual approaches − Favours technology proficient users – others may stay behind − Difficult to engage parents and other stakeholders − Formal recognition as CPD unclear

Intelligent Agents: Technology-focused approach Pro’s − Almost like Amazon.com or a music recommender for teaching − Avatar does the repetitive activities – reduction of workload − Dealing with information overload and complexity − Open Educational Resources Con’s − Technology dependence: reliability, dependability, automated suggestions and decision-making − Trust, security, privacy, − Private market solutions only

Diversified Teacher Careers: Autonomous learning & teachers as mentors Pro’s − Autonomous learners through personalisation and taking responsibility − Different teaching professions: teaching in class, teaching virtually, student monitoring Con’s − Highly dependent on use of digital technologies for organisation and administration of learning − Significant investment in teacher training
  • 15. S ENARIO 5: OFFL C INE NETWORKING By 2025, collaborative technology has failed in many aspects. Teachers have spent the last five years substantial amounts of time learning new networking applications, but it was not always clear if and how these technologies improved their teaching. An alternative group of teachers has emerged that almost exclusively teach offline. This new education scheme offers rotating teachers working for different schools within the area. They get to rotate schools within the city and now dedicate more time discussing things with other teachers faceto-face. Once a month, various teachers' collaboration networking events are organised. In these events, teachers get an opportunity to do collaborative projects with other teachers. S tudents are also involved when these events take place locally. Interacting and collaborating with students from other schools has increased student motivation for learning new things.
  • 16. 5. Technology meltdown: Off-line peer learning Pro’s − The face-to-face time is valued − Collaboration is still embedded in teaching, however in different ways Con’s − Rotating teaching profession can have drawbacks
