2. 2 UNIVERSITY OF LEICESTER · STUDENT WELFARE SERVICE
Dear Student,
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the University of Leicester and to our
International Students’ Welfare Programme, which has been designed especially for you.
The University of Leicester is a leading international university which is involved in the
pursuit of excellence in both teaching and research and holds strong positions in league
tables nationally and worldwide. A degree from this University will therefore be a major
achievement which will certainly help to promote your future career.
Our Welcome Programme aims to provide an introduction to both studying and living in
Leicester. You will be shown around the University campus and given a guided tour of
the City of Leicester. The International Students’ Services Fair will provide information
about the excellent student support services that are available to you during your studies
with us. There will be many opportunities for you to ask questions plus a programme of
social activities and free time when we hope you will meet new friends.
The beginning of term is an extremely hectic time. We hope this gentle introduction
before the start of the academic year will provide time for you to acclimatise, to get used
to the British way of life, to answer those pressing questions and generally to settle in.
I wish you every success with your studies in the University.
Professor Sir Robert Burgess,
Vice-Chancellor
