What does mise-en-scene mean?

Colour:
How is colour used in the 3 below pictures?
The colours interpret the feelings or the set of the characters and what their
character might actually be. For example the image on the right, her hair might say
that she has a mixed personality with her hair being different colours.
Costume:
What can we interpret from these costumes?
It forms a cultural code, for
Example, the images on the
Right says that they might be
Poor, on benefits and live in
A council estate purely and
Simply because of the clothes
That they’re wearing. On the other hand we might say that the
Image on the right might say that they come from a wealthy
Background. Because the image on the right shows two men wearing high quality
clothes.

2. Mise-en-scene
Props:
Option 1 - You have to provide props for a tense police interview between two
officers and one suspected murderer. Decide what props you would incorporate
and how the actors should be directed to use them.
Option 2 – You have to provide props for a romantic meal between two characters
on their first date. Decide what props you would incorporate and how the actors
should be directed to use them.
Props needed:
Police officer uniforms. Weapons for the police. Handcuffs, chairs, table
Location:
Can be a purpose built set or a real location
Blocking/Performance:
 Blocking refers to the positioning and movement of actors within the frame,
both in relation to each other and in relation to the camera (which
represents us, the audience)
 Performance covers all aspects of the actual acting – gesture, expression,
accent etc

3. Mise-en-scene
The lighting on the left image signifies that we might be in a dangerous place,
purely and simply because of the lighting. The lighting is very dark and dingy. So
therefore on the right we see a very light scene this might say that were in a safe
area and nothing bad is going to happen
