It takes a lot of confidence to fall into this category because the only explanations for going
trick–or–treating is to own up to it or make an excuse that your sibling is dragging you along and

My perfect Halloween would be a night of just chilling and watching a marathon of halloween

otherwise known as "Souling". People would go door to door asking for food in exchange for
prayers for the dead. Subsequently this tradition came to the United States in the early 1900's.
The popular term for this tradition became known as "Trick–or–Treat" in the United States. The
"Treat" part of "Trick–or–Treat" as explained above, was asking for food or treats in return for
prayers for the dead. The "Trick" part of "Trick–or–Treat" was derived from a threat that if treats
were not given, there would be pranks and tricks. Nowadays the "Trick" part of "Trick–or–Treat" is
an empty threat as before it was not.
According to The Reno Evening Gazette article on November 1, 1938 "Trick–or–Treat was the
slogan employed by Halloween Pranksters who successfully extracted candy fruit from Reno
residents. In return the youngsters offered protection against window soaping and other forms of
annoyance". Due to the dangerous activities of pranking there was a gradual shift to encourage

Seventeen people were fatally shot during the halloween weekend in Chicago in 2016. Among them
was a 14 year old high school student. Due to the issues surrounding Halloween, some schools are
taking drastic preventative measures to implement Halloween policies. These could be offensive,
pose a security risk, be hazardous and high school students are too old for Halloween costumes
anyway. No wonder why so many high schools will adopt the Halloween costumes policy. Some
costumes are offensive because they reveal too much and/or demean a race, religion, handicaps or
genders. Costumes with masks and heavy makeup could disguise a person's identity hence it pose a
security risk. Other costumes could be just as dangerous because they pose a health risk. Though the
policy was created to protect the students, many believe that it takes away their freedom of choice,
stifling their creativity and frankly take the fun out of halloween.

Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. Since I was a child, Halloween was the event I
looked more forward to throughout the year, even more than my birthday. Halloween was the
day I got to be anything I wanted, and be rewarded for it by receiving candy. My love for the

I'm going beyond being inappropriate and obscene. I'm talking about offensive and vulgar. They
use oppressed cultures as costumes, they offend religions, and they offend races. Halloween can
sometimes be awful for some. I choose to dwell on the scary and fantasy side of it, rather than
