APM Welcome, APM North West Network Conference, Synergies Across Sectors
Q4
1. How did you use media
technologies in the
construction and research,
planning and evaluation stages?
2. Research
The main component of the technology I used was the internet. I used the
internet as it was the easiest way to do research, as everything I need to
know can be found on there and also all my work for my coursework is stored
on my internet blog.
My research was all presented on my weebly blog address. I used Weebly
because I’ve had previous experiences with the site, so navigating it wasn’t
an issue for me. I found Weebly to be a bit restricting on the creative side, as
it doesn’t have as much freedom as sites like Wix but it is a lot more simple
to use, so it has its pros and cons. I believe that my use of weebly was
effective throughout the research stage as it didn’t prevent me from
uploading or doing any work. As well as putting my content on Weebly, I also
looked at other Weebly blogs for inspiration and I believe that helped me with
my creativity and to get the work done.
3. Research
YouTube was also a huge part of my research tasks as it
allowed me to do primary research into the music videos,
as most music videos are put onto the site. YouTube is a
site, I go on everyday and that meant I was familiar with
it, so it wouldn’t have to waste time getting use to the
site and could spend more time doing actual research.
YouTube didn’t only allow me to research into research
into songs by watching them it also meant that I could
research YouTube channels such as SBTV
Information banks like Wikipedia were also very useful,
for when I wanted to do secondary research. They
allowed me to find tons of information on things that I
wouldn’t be able to research alone otherwise.
4. Research
Power point was also very useful as it allowed me to create presentations and
be creative in the way I want to display my research. I used Powerpoint
multiple times throughout this section. This was used so that I could show
that I am diverse with the use of different presentation and allowed me to
show of my creativity.
Google images was useful as it is the source of my of my images, it also
helped me conduct research, since the Digipak images I analysed all came
from their.
Word wasn’t used much in this section but I sometimes noted down my
research on word before uploading it onto my blog.
5. Research
Artist websites allowed me to find out what a site should look
like to assist me with the creation of my website. It also
helped me find out about certain artist and do research on
them, this task was useful as it helped me gain knowledge on
artist image and star persona.
Prezi was also very useful, despite me not putting any content
on their. Prezi was very useful when researching, as it had
information about the given subject I wanted to look into.
Survey monkey meant I could find out what my audience
wanted and it was allowed me tailor my ideas and come forth
with a more solid plan, so my music video can appeal to my
target audience but still gain some mass appeal

7. Planning
I attempted to contact Potter Payper through the social media site
Twitter but the message didn’t go through so another member in
my group then had to contact the artist and was successful. We
decided to use social media, as it is one the quickest ways to talk
to contact the artist because he isn’t local to us and we didn’t
many forms of contact.
YouTube was used to upload the vlogs we created for task like
digipak planning and progression. I didn’t need to upload it to
YouTube I could of uploaded it straight to the blog so it wasn’t very
effective. I also used it to look at the song lyrics, so my group
could plan out how we were going to turn the lyrics into visuals.
This also could have been done on another site such as Genius but I
was more comfortable using YouTube.
8. Planning
I used Cannon 700D camera to film for our vlog and upload
it to YouTube then our blog. I used the camera so I could
start to get use to using it as I was going to be doing most
of the filming for our production.
Slide share was used to upload some of my post during the
design stage. This was creative as I had already made the
presentation. Slide Share made uploading the post easier
and look more professional in its format than alternatively
uploading it straight to the blog
PowerPoint was useful, as I done a few post on there and
uploaded them straight to Weebly or onto slide share
where the post can be embedded
9. Planning
Google maps was used to assist me during the location scouting,
It use narrow down areas because when a group member
suggested somewhere I would go on google maps and see if it is
ideal. This saved a lot of time, as it meant I didn’t have to go
around actually looking for
Word helped me draft my ideas and make notes before uploading
a finishes blog post. It was quite useful as it meant I could have a
place to write what came to mind and it also helped with
grammar because it has grammar correction
Google images helped me make my mood boards. It allowed me
to show a more creative side as images always brighten up a
page. I chose google images as its my default browser and I'm use
to using it
10. Planning
Gmail was used to contact my fellow group members and email them any post
that we could share as a group. I chose to use Gmail or my school email, as I
use it more often and all my
My blog is Weebly, so it was used to store all my planning post. I did have a
problem with it in this section, as I deleted the whole section trying to edit
how I wanted the site to look. This limited my creative from them, as I didn’t
want to mess anything else up or delete any other work.
Genuis is the website I used to see the lyrics written up. It was effective as I
tells the readers what the artist meant by the lyrics, that gave me a better
understanding of the song and it helped me gain knowledge on what the
audience want to see

12. Production
The Camera I used to film the music videos and take the pictures was a
Cannon 700D. I used this camera as it was an upgrade to the one I used last
year because that one was a 550D. The camera took some time getting use to
but wasn’t very difficult to use, since most of the features were like the one
from last year. I chose this camera because it was meant to have best video
quality out of the options I had available. I did have some issues with the
camera, as I couldn’t always get it to focus when I wanted it to and I couldn’t
take clear videos in darkness but I overcome these issues by shooting in better
lighting. The camera was also used to record some of our vlogs.
I used Photoshop to help create the Digipak. Although I wasn’t the main editor
I did contribute a lot to making of the digipak. We chose Photoshop as the
software we would use as we had both used it previously so some of it’s
features would be familiar. Photoshop wasn’t hard to use and it allowed us to
be very creative and bring all our ideas to life and made a great end product.
13. Production
Wix was the website creator we used to make our artist website. We chose it
because it was more complex and gave you more freedom than Weebly but
because we didn’t now how to use it, we chose the simple site creator and that
really restricted our creativity. Our site was the best but Wix did allow us to add
many features. We had two problems whilst creating the site. One was that we
chose the simple creator which meant we couldn’t change certain things in enough
detail and the second was that it didn’t allow us to add a music player.
Vistaprint was used to design the artist clothes, to sell on the site. We used it as
it’s a popular site we have seen advertised before and out of all the websites we
checked it allowed the most creative freedom, which logos, colours and products
and surprisingly it was really easy to use.
Iphone was used to messaged each other so we could communicate as a group and
with out characters, so we could meet up for filming. It was also used record some
of our vlogs. We all had iPhone’s so communication was easy and was free and
they have good quality and features that make uploading videos easy.
14. Production
YouTube was used during this stage to find other songs for album
whilst we was making the website and digipak track list, upload
vlogs and find inspiration while filming e.g. camera shots. I used
YouTube because it is easy to navigate and I'm very use to so it has
just become natural to me.
Final cut pro was the software I used to help edit and put the music
video together. Final cut was used because it’s the most professional
editing software we had available and we had experience using the
software which meant we didn’t have to waste time getting use to
using it
15. Production
Google forms was to conduct research on our rough
cut and see what the audience thought so we could
improve the music video for our final production. We
used google forms because Survey monkey wasn’t
working but it was just as good and didn’t restrict us
in any way.
Social media was used to advertise our rough cut and
to speak to a wider audience about what they think
about our products. I used social media, as it has a
wide audience and get instant responses and is
something me and our target audience use daily.
16.
17. Evaluation
Social media was used for question questions 3 to see our latest audience
reactions. I used it for question 3 because I had already posted the music video
on multiple platforms and wanted to see the latest audience feedback.
PowerPoint was used for question 4, as it is a simple presentation software that
I am very familiar with as I have it numerous amounts of time in the past.
Compared to the other presentation software's I used PowerPoint doesn’t allow
much creativity, apart from adding themes.
I used YouTube to re-watch music video and find other music videos that were
like mine during question 1. This helped me as it supported what I was saying a
visual implementation.
Slide share was used for question 4 to embed my powerpoint onto my blog,
because I didn’t like the format when I uploaded the poweerpoint straight to
my blog
18. Evaluation
Google image was used to show other examples of digipaks such as Giggs in
question 2.It was effective in helping my display
Snipping tool was also used for question to crop images and save them so I
could upload it to emaze
My Ipad was used to research and film question 3. I used it because the
features are simple an it would be easy to upload it onto my computer. A
problem did occur when trying to upload it directly to my blog. It kept saying
error.
19. Evaluation
Emaze was the presentation software I used to answer question 1. It didn’t
take very long to get use to and once I did It allowed me to be very creative
due to all the features it had
Survery money was used to view audience feedback so I could answer
question 3
Prezi was used to answer question 2. I used it because it was suggested to me
but I didn’t really like it because it was so different to the other things I had
used
