In Heb 8:3-5:
3) Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer. 4) If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the law. 5) They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain."
This is a teaching presented during the 50-Sunday Programme of the Church of Christ, Sangotedo in order to edify the saints and visitors on the Pattern of Worship of the New Testament Church.
According to the Pattern by Bro. Ime Udoh (Evangelist)

Presented by Bro. Ime Udoh (Evangelist) – Church of Christ, Orodu, Lagos

2. Text:
Heb 8:3-5
3 Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts
and sacrifices, and so it was necessary for this
one also to have something to offer. 4 If he were
on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are
already men who offer the gifts prescribed by the
law. 5 They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy
and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why
Moses was warned when he was about to build
the tabernacle: "See to it that you make
everything according to the pattern shown
you on the mountain."
3. Definition.
A. Pattern. (blueprint)
i. plan or model: a plan or model used as a guide
for making something, a knitting pattern
ii. prototype: an original design or model from
which exact copies can be made
iii.good example: a model that is considered to be
worthy of imitation
B. Shadow:
i. hint of something: a slight suggestion or hint of
something.
ii. a remnant of somebody or something formerly
greater or more.
5. Patterns are important
We need a blueprint to properly estimate and build a house or building
(Luke 14:28) “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first,
and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?”
We need a pattern to make clothes or furniture.
What about Religion?
Is there a Pattern in Religion that we must follow in order for it to be correct?
Many contend that there is not a Pattern
6. The Tabernacle a pattern
(shadow) of Heavenly Things. (Ex 25:40) “And look that thou make them
after their pattern, which was shewed thee in
the mount.”
(Ex 26:30) “And thou shalt rear up the
tabernacle according to the fashion thereof
which was shewed thee in the mount.”
(Heb 8:4-5) “For if he were on earth, he should
not be a priest, seeing that there are priests
that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve
unto the example and shadow of heavenly
things, as Moses was admonished of God when
he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See,
saith he, that thou make all things according to
the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.”
Pattern – “τυπος” – “The pattern in
conformity to which a thing must be
made.” (Thayer's Greek Lexicon)
7. Heb 9:1-9
Now the first
covenant had
regulations for
worship and also an
earthly sanctuary. 2
A tabernacle was set
up. In its first room
were the lampstand,
the table and the
consecrated bread;
this was called the
Holy Place
. 3 Behind the second
curtain was a room
called the Most Holy
Place, 4 which had
the golden altar of
incense and the gold-
covered ark of the
covenant. This ark
contained the gold jar
of manna, Aaron's
staff that had budded,
and the stone tablets
of the covenant.
8. 7 But only the high priest
entered the inner room,
and that only once a
year, and never without
blood, which he offered
for himself and for the
sins the people had
committed in ignorance.
8 The Holy Spirit was
showing by this that the
way into the Most Holy
Place had not yet been
disclosed as long as the
first tabernacle was still
standing.
NIV
5 Above the ark were
the cherubim of the
Glory, overshadowing
the atonement cover.
But we cannot discuss
these things in detail
now.
6 When everything had
been arranged like this,
the priests entered
regularly into the outer
room to carry on their
ministry.
13. 12 "Then speak to him, saying, ‘Thus says the
LORD of hosts, saying: "Behold, the Man whose
name is the BRANCH! From His place He shall
branch out, And He shall build the temple of the
LORD;
13 Yes, He shall build the temple of the LORD.
He shall bear the glory, And shall sit and rule on
His throne; So He shall be a priest on His
throne, And the counsel of peace shall be
between them both."’
Zechariah 6
14. 12 "Then speak to him, saying, ‘Thus says the

name is the BRANCH! From His place He shall

He shall bear the glory, And shall sit and rule on
His throne; So He shall be a priest on His
throne, And the counsel of peace shall be

22. Is there a Pattern in the New Testament
like there was in the Old?
If there is no pattern then why would it be
wrong to add or diminish from the word of God?
(Rev 22:18-19) “For I testify unto every man
that heareth the words of the prophecy of this
book, If any man shall add unto these things,
God shall add unto him the plagues that are
written in this book: And if any man shall take
away from the words of the book of this
prophecy, God shall take away his part out of
the book of life, and out of the holy city, and
from the things which are written in this book.”
23. Is there a Pattern in the New Testament like
there was in the Old?
(1) One church Eph. 4. 4.
(2) United in doctrine – John 17:20, 21; Acts 2:42.
Rom 16:17
(3) Elders appointed in every local Church Acts
14:23; Titus 1:5. No earthly headquarters.
No woman bishop 1 Tim. 3
(4) One Head, Christ – Col 1:18
(5) One pattern of worship – in spirit and in truth
(John 4:23, Acts 2:42, 1Cor. 16:1-2, Acts 20:7,
Heb 13;15). No instrument of music, no tithing.
(7) All who were members were washed, baptised
into the church. Acts 2:37,38, 41, 47
24. ARE YOU FOLLOWING THE PATTERN?
You cannot enter Heaven except you follow
the pattern. Matt. 7 : 21-23; 1 Cor. 3:10-11.
Have you been born again by the
incorruptible seed?
(1 Peter 1:23) “Being born again, not of
corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word
of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”
(Luke 8:11) “The seed is the word of God.”
Are You Following His Pattern?
25. When You Are a Part of the True Church
THINK on What You Are a Part OF!
Something that is more than 2000 years old
Something that was predicted by men that lived
hundreds of years before it was created
Something that was built by the Creator Himself
with His own blood
Something in which the Lord will save
Something in which the apostles of the New
Testament were a part of

Two weeks ago, I mention that I was flirting with the idea of placing a second lesson as a sermon pertaining to our Zechariah study.

“Between them both” is the regal and priestly office. Joshua was a priest but he did not rule on any throne as king. But of Jesus alone in the New Testament occupy both of these offices - be at work with complete agreement between them both.
Old Testament priests were never kings and Old Testament kings were never priests. That Jesus is both now Priest and King is made evident from Hebrews 8:1. This is why there is agreement between them both.
We are purchased by our Priest and protected by our King! Further, Jesus only officiates for those in His kingdom/church. . .those who obey his will (Heb. 5:9, 10).
That the church is prophesied about long before it came into existence is not something that is unique with Zechariah but it is spoken of throughout the Old Testament.
Solomon who built the first house of God spoke, “Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain” (Ps. 127:1).
Daniel spoke of the church-kingdom being built during the days of the Romans.
To David around 1000 BC God promised to make his house an enduring house and a kingdom that will last forever. This was not true regarding the physical dynasty of David in Israel, but is true of the Lord sitting on David’s Throne in heaven.
Zechariah presents the nations of the earth going to worship the King and shows the Lord reigning as king over the earth. Despite the persecutions against the church, despite the barrels of blood that flowed from martyred saints during the first three centuries of our new area, the church continued on and grew to the point in which the nations became the kingdoms of Christ.
It all started with those three thousand who were converted upon Pentecost in Acts 2 and they lived in all parts of the world. When they went back to their country they planted the seed of the kingdom in the hearts of others and the church began to take root around the world. The Jews were converted first and then the Gentiles began to come into the kingdom, not as Jews but as Christians.
“23 and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory,
24 even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?” (Rom. 9:23, 24).
“Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Rev. 11:15)
