purpose of helping
you with the correct
pronunciation of the
past tense regular
verbs in English.

of past tense regular verbs.
•Goal: you will be able to
recognize these last sounds, and
begin to pronounce them
correctly.
 Objective: one of the most common pronunciation mistakes that native
speakers of Spanish (beginners) make when speaking in English is the
incorrect pronunciation of the past tense regular verbs, which is probably due
to how they separate syllables in their L1. After this lesson, you should be
able to correctly pronounce these past tense forms since this lesson would
provide some explicit and friendly guidelines to facilitate this task and
enhance your learning process
•Materials:
1. A computer.
2. Broad bandwidth internet
connection (without this, you may
have trouble accessing our class
wiki).
3. Headset (optional).

The rationale for using these two above
mentioned videos is because, as far as I
am concerned, they have very explicit
explanations of the correct pronunciation
of the regular past tense endings. Another
reason for using youtube is due to the
huge amount of links to other videos that
students would have access to. This would
most probably encourage them to do
further pronunciation exercises.
 Read the following dialogue. Write the phonetic symbol representing the sound of the
ed-ending above each past tense verb. Practice the dialogue aloud in front of a mirror.
Try to carefully pronounce all past tense endings!
o Kathy: Tom, have you started your diet? I hope you haven’t gained weight.
 Tom: I boiled eggs and sliced celery for lunch.
 Kathy: Have you exercised at all.
 Tom: I walked 5 miles and jogged in the park.
 Kathy: Have you cleaned the house? Calories can be worked off that way.
 Tom: I washed and waxed the floors. I even painted the bathroom.
 Kathy: Who baked this apple pie? Who cooked this ham?
 Tom: When I finished cleaning, I was starved. I prepared this food for dinner.
 Kathy: Oh, no! I’ll take this food home so you won’t be tempted .
 I really enjoyed being with you. You diet is great!
 Tom: What happened? Somehow, I missed out on all the fun.

  • 4.  Objective: one of the most common pronunciation mistakes that native speakers of Spanish (beginners) make when speaking in English is the incorrect pronunciation of the past tense regular verbs, which is probably due to how they separate syllables in their L1. After this lesson, you should be able to correctly pronounce these past tense forms since this lesson would provide some explicit and friendly guidelines to facilitate this task and enhance your learning process

Another reason for using youtube is due to the huge amount of links to other videos that students would have access to. This would most probably encourage them to do further pronunciation exercises.
  • 9.  Read the following dialogue. Write the phonetic symbol representing the sound of the ed-ending above each past tense verb. Practice the dialogue aloud in front of a mirror. Try to carefully pronounce all past tense endings! o Kathy: Tom, have you started your diet? I hope you haven’t gained weight.  Tom: I boiled eggs and sliced celery for lunch.  Kathy: Have you exercised at all.  Tom: I walked 5 miles and jogged in the park.  Kathy: Have you cleaned the house? Calories can be worked off that way.  Tom: I washed and waxed the floors. I even painted the bathroom.  Kathy: Who baked this apple pie? Who cooked this ham?  Tom: When I finished cleaning, I was starved. I prepared this food for dinner.  Kathy: Oh, no! I’ll take this food home so you won’t be tempted .  I really enjoyed being with you. You diet is great!  Tom: What happened? Somehow, I missed out on all the fun.
