- Regional Occupational Program is another way to earn college credit in a “non-traditional way. Train through ROP to work in the business, health, industrial, agricultural or other job fields. ROP is offered through the San Diego County Office of Education and are located countywide, operated by local high schools and community college districts. Call the JEC for more information about this program.
- TA is open to both officer and enlisted active duty personnel. In addition, it is open to Naval Reservists on continuous active duty and Naval Reservists ordered to active duty for 120 days or more. To qualify for tuition assistance members must: a. be on active duty for the duration of the course. b. attend an accredited institution (check with NCO to verify accreditation) c. be pursuing high school diploma, vocational/technical certificate, or associate, bachelor’s, masters, doctorate or professional degree. d. officers incur a 2 year ADSC upon completion of the course. Runs concurrently with remaining obligated service time.
- 7 By signing the Application for TA (NAVMC 10883 Rev. 6-97 ) the student is obligated to the Agreement on the back. This agreement explains what the student must do in the case of: -Receiving a grade of “F” (failure), “W” (withdrawal), or “I” (incomplete). Service members must reimburse the government for F’s, voluntary withdrawals and incompletes which have not been converted to a passing grade within 6 months. If a student voluntarily withdraws from a course after the add/drop period, he or she is responsible for reimbursement of the tuition assistance amount. It must be paid by money order or certified check, payable to the “Treasurer of the United States”. If it is not done in a timely manner, it will be done by pay checkage.
- You must retrieve the original TA voucher from the school and return it to the JEC. If, for ANY reason, you decide not to attend class, you must return the original TA voucher to the JEC.
- In the case of PELL Grants, federal training funds assistance, or any other federal grant, the student my utilize TA and the grant at the same time. Currently, service members are eligible for TA and Pell Grants concurrently for the same course(s). The Navy or Marine Corps will authorize TA at its current rate; the Pell Grant is used for the remaining tuition and other educational expenses. Currently, less than half-time students may se these grants to pay for tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation (as determined by the institution, and dependent care expenses. For example, if the sum of TA plus a Pell Grant exceeds the tuition and related institutional cost, then TA should be applied first and the Pell Grant should be used for books, supplies and fees. If Pell Grant funds remain after these expenditures, then those funds may be available for child care and transportation in accordance with terms of the Federal Pell Grant Program. It is the school’s responsibility to use the two funds as stated above so no duplication takes place.
