HOW DOES VIDEO CREATION DIFFERENTIATE
                    INSTRUCTION?
 Video creation is a great and easy way to
    differentiate instruction in the classroom,
for it involves more than just one skill or
                       talent.
 Videos require a great deal of planning and
collaboration on all levels, so the „shy child‟
may have an easier time being behind the
scenes than being the lead role. This is a
great concept for each student can be
involved without being „left out‟ in terms of
what their other peers are doing – for all
students are reaching a common goal.
 In addition using videos in the classroom
is a nice switch from the typical lecture
  classroom. I personally remember watching
videos in the class that went along with
what we were learning at the time, and this
made me remember the information being
                     presented.
WHAT LEVELS OF BLOOM DOES VIDEO
                            CREATION REACH?
 In terms of Bloom‟s taxonomy, video creation can be
               considered to cover all categories.
 In terms of „Create‟ it is obvious that a good deal of
planning and cooperation is involved in shooting or
                     creating a successful video.
 It is also important to „Analyze‟ worthy information to be
included, also in terms of what video clips to show.
 This can all be used to „Apply‟ what each child is learning
in the classroom, for shooting or viewing a video of a
topic learned is a great real life experience.
 From the creation or completion of watching a video,
each student can „Evaluate‟ the topic covered in a real
life manner – using examples from the video.
 Finally, this all makes is easier to „Remember or
Understand‟ what was discussed in class, and have a
source that will never go away that each student had a
                             part in making.
HOW DOES THE TEACHER HELP THEIR
STUDENTS REACH THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF
                 BLOOM?
• To reach the highest level of Bloom, it is important for teachers to
enforce careful planning when it comes to video creation. Meaning,
students should 1. first brainstorm a topic or idea, 2. create a plan and
rubric of what will happen, 3. scripting what will actually go on, 4.
storyboarding or setting up each scene, 5. making sets/props/costumes
it is important for students to remain creative, 6. rehearse, 7. actually
shooting the video, 8. editing the video, 9. and finally being able to
share it. This structure while remaining creative and true to the topic
allows students to really embrace and explore the task of video creation
PROS OF VIDEO CREATION
+ Some pros to creating videos in the classroom is that it is very fun and
students get to interact with their peers in terms of working as a team to
                                  create a common goal.
+ Also, students today live in a world where they have access and are
connected to videos at all times of the day. In addition, video creation
helps students to express a real understanding of core classroom
content in a way that expresses their creativity and allows them to
                             remember what they learned.
+ Video creation is also unique in that it requires students to practice
“real-life” skills of planning and organization, time management,
cooperation, communication, problem solving, leadership, as well as
working well in a group – which can help with future jobs and working
                                        with others.
CONS OF VIDEO CREATION
− However there are some cons towards
working with videos in the classroom,
for it becomes easy for students to
become off task and stray away from
the main goal of the video.
− In addition there is a great deal of time
needed to create these videos, which
could take away from other valuable
                               class time.
− There is also responsibilities when it
                   comes to handling the sometimes
                 expensive video equipment, and there
is a great deal of hard work and
                    dedication involved – that some
students may not be willing to put in.
HOW CAN WATCHING VIDEOS DIFFERENTIATE
                 INSTRUCTION??
 Watching videos in the classroom is also a great
way to differentiate instruction. Students today
can become tired of the typical class lecture, and
many have difficulty applying what they are
learning to real life experiences. This is what
causes many students to zone out, and as a result
fall behind the rest of what the teacher is trying to
                        get across.
 With the inclusion of videos, this brings a great
deal of benefits to all aspects of the classroom, for
the visual learner is able to see what is going on –
and the auditory learner can listen to the sounds
accompanied by the video. This guided use of
video in the classroom can express all levels of
curricular content in a more „real life‟ form to all
students. All students can be entertained as well
as benefit from video watching in the classroom.
HOW DOES WATCHING VIDEOS HELP STUDENTS
   REACH DIFFERENT LEVELS OF BLOOM?
 There are a wide variety of ways that students can reach different levels
of Bloom by watching videos for instance, students can analyze the
video by comparing or contrasting it to what they learned in the lecture,
and how this helped them better understand the topic.
 Students can work together to map out the important aspects of the
video. Students can remember and understand what goes on in the
video by being able to connect what they have learned to a real life
                    experience they have just viewed.
 In addition students are entertained more by watching a video on
volcanoes, rather than just hearing their teacher talk about it – helping
them remember what they have learned.
 Teachers also have an easy way to evaluate how well their students may
understand the video by talking before, during, and after the video – to
guide students in predicting and understanding what happened in the
video and how it relates in the classroom.
HOW CAN TEACHERS USE VIDEOS IN A
POSITIVE MANNER IN THE CLASSROOM
SETTING? Teachers are able to use videos as a
                   
                             great enhancement to any given
lesson. In terms of the lesson,
teachers can use videos in the
classroom to set objectives to provide
opportunities to view and discuss the
                             video in class.
 By doing this, students then have the
ability to discuss and analyze what
they may have seen in the video.
Students may also be able to predict
the outcome of a given video using
                            prior knowledge.
 Students can also evaluate the video
by critiquing it in terms of strengths
and weaknesses – and what they may
have done to make the video better.
PROS OF WATCHING VIDEOS
+ Using videos can be a huge pro in the classroom for it engages the
students much different than a boring lecture, and thus makes the class
                            more interactive.
+ The concept of a video allows a special sensory experience to bring
lessons to life – in terms of witnessing what they have learned.
+ Finally, by using various sights and sounds – videos are perfect for
                          audio and visual learners.
CONS OF WATCHING VIDEOS IN THE
                                CLASSROOM
− Cons are also prevalent when dealing with
videos in the classroom, it is important that all
content in the video are school age
appropriate, and go along with what the
students are learning or else it will be
                           pointless.
− In addition, equipment failures are common
when teachers are not trained in terms of
using technology and videos in the classroom.
This allows room for „chaos‟ in the classroom
for the teacher is too busy trying to figure out
what is wrong with the equipment.
− Finally, it is important to remember that videos
should by no means be relied on in terms of
lesson planning, for not all students react to
all videos in a positive way – and may need
more than just a video to explain a concept.

Videos in the classroom

  • 1.
  • 2. HOW DOES VIDEO CREATION DIFFERENTIATE INSTRUCTION?  Video creation is a great and easy way to differentiate instruction in the classroom, for it involves more than just one skill or talent.  Videos require a great deal of planning and collaboration on all levels, so the „shy child‟ may have an easier time being behind the scenes than being the lead role. This is a great concept for each student can be involved without being „left out‟ in terms of what their other peers are doing – for all students are reaching a common goal.  In addition using videos in the classroom is a nice switch from the typical lecture classroom. I personally remember watching videos in the class that went along with what we were learning at the time, and this made me remember the information being presented.
  • 3. WHAT LEVELS OF BLOOM DOES VIDEO CREATION REACH?  In terms of Bloom‟s taxonomy, video creation can be considered to cover all categories.  In terms of „Create‟ it is obvious that a good deal of planning and cooperation is involved in shooting or creating a successful video.  It is also important to „Analyze‟ worthy information to be included, also in terms of what video clips to show.  This can all be used to „Apply‟ what each child is learning in the classroom, for shooting or viewing a video of a topic learned is a great real life experience.  From the creation or completion of watching a video, each student can „Evaluate‟ the topic covered in a real life manner – using examples from the video.  Finally, this all makes is easier to „Remember or Understand‟ what was discussed in class, and have a source that will never go away that each student had a part in making.
  • 4. HOW DOES THE TEACHER HELP THEIR STUDENTS REACH THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF BLOOM? • To reach the highest level of Bloom, it is important for teachers to enforce careful planning when it comes to video creation. Meaning, students should 1. first brainstorm a topic or idea, 2. create a plan and rubric of what will happen, 3. scripting what will actually go on, 4. storyboarding or setting up each scene, 5. making sets/props/costumes it is important for students to remain creative, 6. rehearse, 7. actually shooting the video, 8. editing the video, 9. and finally being able to share it. This structure while remaining creative and true to the topic allows students to really embrace and explore the task of video creation
  • 5. PROS OF VIDEO CREATION + Some pros to creating videos in the classroom is that it is very fun and students get to interact with their peers in terms of working as a team to create a common goal. + Also, students today live in a world where they have access and are connected to videos at all times of the day. In addition, video creation helps students to express a real understanding of core classroom content in a way that expresses their creativity and allows them to remember what they learned. + Video creation is also unique in that it requires students to practice “real-life” skills of planning and organization, time management, cooperation, communication, problem solving, leadership, as well as working well in a group – which can help with future jobs and working with others.
  • 6. CONS OF VIDEO CREATION − However there are some cons towards working with videos in the classroom, for it becomes easy for students to become off task and stray away from the main goal of the video. − In addition there is a great deal of time needed to create these videos, which could take away from other valuable class time. − There is also responsibilities when it comes to handling the sometimes expensive video equipment, and there is a great deal of hard work and dedication involved – that some students may not be willing to put in.
  • 7. HOW CAN WATCHING VIDEOS DIFFERENTIATE INSTRUCTION??  Watching videos in the classroom is also a great way to differentiate instruction. Students today can become tired of the typical class lecture, and many have difficulty applying what they are learning to real life experiences. This is what causes many students to zone out, and as a result fall behind the rest of what the teacher is trying to get across.  With the inclusion of videos, this brings a great deal of benefits to all aspects of the classroom, for the visual learner is able to see what is going on – and the auditory learner can listen to the sounds accompanied by the video. This guided use of video in the classroom can express all levels of curricular content in a more „real life‟ form to all students. All students can be entertained as well as benefit from video watching in the classroom.
  • 8. HOW DOES WATCHING VIDEOS HELP STUDENTS REACH DIFFERENT LEVELS OF BLOOM?  There are a wide variety of ways that students can reach different levels of Bloom by watching videos for instance, students can analyze the video by comparing or contrasting it to what they learned in the lecture, and how this helped them better understand the topic.  Students can work together to map out the important aspects of the video. Students can remember and understand what goes on in the video by being able to connect what they have learned to a real life experience they have just viewed.  In addition students are entertained more by watching a video on volcanoes, rather than just hearing their teacher talk about it – helping them remember what they have learned.  Teachers also have an easy way to evaluate how well their students may understand the video by talking before, during, and after the video – to guide students in predicting and understanding what happened in the video and how it relates in the classroom.
  • 9. HOW CAN TEACHERS USE VIDEOS IN A POSITIVE MANNER IN THE CLASSROOM SETTING? Teachers are able to use videos as a  great enhancement to any given lesson. In terms of the lesson, teachers can use videos in the classroom to set objectives to provide opportunities to view and discuss the video in class.  By doing this, students then have the ability to discuss and analyze what they may have seen in the video. Students may also be able to predict the outcome of a given video using prior knowledge.  Students can also evaluate the video by critiquing it in terms of strengths and weaknesses – and what they may have done to make the video better.
  • 10. PROS OF WATCHING VIDEOS + Using videos can be a huge pro in the classroom for it engages the students much different than a boring lecture, and thus makes the class more interactive. + The concept of a video allows a special sensory experience to bring lessons to life – in terms of witnessing what they have learned. + Finally, by using various sights and sounds – videos are perfect for audio and visual learners.
  • 11. CONS OF WATCHING VIDEOS IN THE CLASSROOM − Cons are also prevalent when dealing with videos in the classroom, it is important that all content in the video are school age appropriate, and go along with what the students are learning or else it will be pointless. − In addition, equipment failures are common when teachers are not trained in terms of using technology and videos in the classroom. This allows room for „chaos‟ in the classroom for the teacher is too busy trying to figure out what is wrong with the equipment. − Finally, it is important to remember that videos should by no means be relied on in terms of lesson planning, for not all students react to all videos in a positive way – and may need more than just a video to explain a concept.
