Doctor of Nutrition & Dietetics (DND)

Program Description:
Nutrition is the study of the role of food nutrients in the body.
Dietetics is concerned with the prevention and treatment of
a variety of food-related diseases. The role of Nutritionists
and Dietetics is to interpret scientific knowledge about food
in relation to health and disease so as to help people change
their eating habits to improve their health.
The Doctor of Nutrition and Dietetics studies program
is planned to prepare graduates to work as professional
nutritionists and dietitians in a range of settings. The Degree
Program aims to prepare graduates with the professional
and personal qualities required for future dietetics practices.
The course integrates academic teaching and learning
with clinical, population health, research and management
experience.
Objectives:
The graduates will have knowledge in human nutrition
science, food use in society, food science, nutritional
assessment, clinical dietetics, community and public health
and nutrition research. The graduates will also acquire the
professional skills and ability to
• Interpret and translate the science of Nutrition into

practical information
• Conduct timely and appropriate clinical and nutritional
assessment
• Manage nutrition care in clinical and community settings
• Influence and contribute to a safe secure and nutritious
food supply
• Manage self-development in the area of Nutrition
• Communicate as a team member
Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of the course, students will:
• Obtained the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to
undertake quality nutrition and dietetics practice in a
range of settings
• Develop independent learning and reflective
practice skills to allow capacity for self-evaluation and
management that is strategic and focuses on quality
nutrition and dietetics practice
• Carry the skills to practice in a changing work
environment in which accountability at the individuals
and organizational level is becoming increasingly
important
• Obtain an understanding of the principles of primary
health care and the impact of social, political, economic,
environmental and cultural factors on food choice and
the health of individuals, families and communities
• Understand the importance of interdisciplinary
approaches to the management of nutritional problems
and the promotion of nutritional health and well-being
• Understood the importance of commitment to nutrition
and dietetics discipline including individuals and
collective professional development
• Acquire the ability of critical questioning and thinking.
