3. What is cutaneous respiration
Cutaneous respiration is form of respiration in
which gas exchange occurs across the skin.

4. Respiration in frogs
o Tadpoles use gills to respire.
o Frogs don't have gills and they
have to use another factors for
respiration such as:
◦ Skin
◦ Lungs
◦ Lining of mouth

5.  Frog also respires through skin.
 This is called as cutaneous respiration in frog.
 This is an secondary respiratory system.

6.  Cutaneous respiration occurs while frog is in
hibernation (winter sleep) or completely
submerged.

7.  Frogs must keep their skin moist to
allow efficient respiration through skin.

8.  Frog skin has mucus glands which secrete mucus onto
the surface of skin when they are out of water.

9.  The oxygen is absorbed from water through skin
using special blood vessels.

10.  Frogs are common animals we see around us.
 But they are special because they live both in
land and water.
 Frogs can live in water though they are not
having gills because of cutaneous respiration.
 Cutaneous respiration is nothing but
respiration through skin in water.
