Satellite Interference - The Tools and Technology
1. MASTERCLASS
SMi Training Presents…
Satellite Interference –
The Technology & Tools
Tuesday 15th April 2014, Central London
HOSTED BY:
Overview:
Satellite services are widely used by the commercial sector and the
military. Reliance on detecting minute signals in a fog of radio frequency
“noise” interference, either unintended or deliberate, is a concern to
maintaining assured and reliable communications links to all. This
Masterclass describes the technology and tools used to mitigate
interference through commercial sector initiatives and explore how
interference is managed and reduced. Presenters from the IRG, SAT
Corporation and Newtec will look at the challenges posed by this
important issue, identify current and potential solutions, describe what is
being done within the satellite community to ensure that robust satellite
communications can be sustained as services rapidly expand.
Benefits of attending:
• You will gain a better understanding of the key causes of interference
• You will understand how the external environment can impact
operations and cause satellite interference
• You will gain a better understanding of the current global initiatives for
satellite interference mitigation
• You will gain knowledge of the tools and technology available for
mitigating satellite interference

About your Masterclass Leader:
Martin Coleman: from starting Colem Engineering, a services, design and project management
consultancy in 1992 and using his previous experience in network management systems he developed
satellite & broadcast control system products for Corporate, SNG/Flyaway including enhanced
Automation, Intelligent Device Configuration and Media management. In addition, Martin has been an
active player in helping reduce interference and as Executive Director of the Satellite Interference
Reduction Group (IRG) has evolved a global ETSI/DVB Carrier ID (CID) specification for all SCPC/MCPC
transmissions (Video & Data) as well as the original NIT CID issued by WBU-ISOG in 2008. He is committed
to seeing Carrier ID being rolled out from 1st January 2015. In addition, his group has been heavily
involved with the ITU and major broadcasters in dealing with Intentional Interference and this has led
IRG to initiate new standards and processes within the Geolocation industry. IRG supports majors groups
such as APSCC, CASBAA, GVF, SMi, SSPi and WTA in getting all interference initiatives advanced.
About The Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG)
The Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG) is a leading organization working to reduce satellite
frequency interference. It comprises three main working groups, covering Carrier ID, Intentional
Interference, and VSAT. The Group’s membership is comprised of satellite operators, users, uplinkers,
service providers, equipment vendors and other organizations with a stake in combating radio
frequency interference. For more information, please visit www.satirg.org
