Personal Finance Benefits
With the current state of the economy, it would be beneficial for students to take a personal finance
course before the end of their secondary education. Already, there are many students who come in
with no knowledge of how to manage their money. Without this knowledge, individuals are unable to
develop those skills and are blindly pushed into the workforce and are unable to stretch their income
to pay off their debts. Because individuals do not develop those skills they are also unable to budget
their money effectively possibly causing many families who owe a lot of debt are unable to pay it
back. It is more than possible it personal finance was a general education requirement knowing how to
budget and reduce debt can make these situations

Why Did Ashoka Build An Imperial Empire
India could not maintain an imperial government and instead went with regional kingdoms. Together
Kautalya ad Chandragupta built a bureaucratic administration. Chandragupta later left his thrown to
become a monk. His son then took over the thrown but the high point of the empire was throughout
the reign of his grandson Ashoka. Ashoka established a capital and ruled through a tightly organized
bureaucracy. He was unique however in his communication of policies. They were written in natural
stone all around the empire. Asoka s Empire depended on large corps of officials to administer
policies and a very strong army. The Guptas did something that not many people did, their local

You will find there are a lot of similarities between all the empires/kingdoms. In Persia they invested a
lot of resources into the construction of roads and highways. They did this to enable communications
and military mobility. As trading grew different regions began to specialize what they traded. Certain
products were expected of each area. In China the first emperor built roads to aid communication and
the movement of armies. Han Wudis actions while in the throne rapidly consumed the empires surplus
wealth. India s Magadha conquered neighboring states and gained control of overseas trade between
India and Burma. By 260 B.C.E Mauryan had control of former Kalinga trade routes. In Greece
Spartans used iron bars for money. Their colonies provided merchants with not only fertile land but
access to copper, zinc, tin and iron ores of Italy. Caravan trade transported luxury goods because they
couldn t carry heavier goods. Finally in Rome, they founded a large regional state in Italy that gave
them access to industry. Commercial wealth enabled rulers to maintain powerful states and a strong
military. They annexed Carthaginian possessions in Africa and Iberia and used them to fund imperial
expansion. Julius Cesar spent tons of money on public spectacles to help him gets posts in the
republican government. Construction provided employment which caused population to grow

Meeting the customer requirements (Oakland 2003) is a reasonable definition of quality.
Meeting the Customer s requirements is a tough challenge as the requirements of customer are like the
water of a tide; it s likely to change at any point of time. So identifying the expectations of the
customer and performing service in accordance to it is a task that requires great skill. But at the end of
the day if customer s expectation is met and the customer is satisfied with the product, we could say
that quality has been achieved.
For example; A Customer wanting a house to be built for him had come to my uncle s construction
company. Based on his expectations and the trend that was in style during that time, our civil

Explaining my plans to the guide helped me get constructive ideas from him. It also helped me
understand the priorities of my project better and define it clearly.
The second type of communication in this scenario is operational communication. This involves
communicating about the progress of the project; passing information about its development and if
there are any changes in priorities. During this stage, my customer (guide) was regularly informed
about my progress. He would then suggest particulars that increased the overall quality of my work
and made it a better product.
Through such communication, my project was successfully completed on time in the way my guide
preferred. Excellent communication had become my key to increased quality, which in turn taught me
how vital it was for the success of any given project.

Quality work and commitment from every single employee plays an important role in the growth of

Racism Through the Decades
Should The adventures of Huckleberry Finn be banned from schools? In the past century many people
have argued whether it should or shouldn t be. In many perspectives, this book taught people what it
was like back then and how it used to be in 1884. Others believe that, the book was full of racial slurs
and was just racist in general. The controversy between both sides of this book has had tremendous
opinions spoken and has really changed others mind about it but if you really decypher the book it isn
t as racist as people would like to believe. It shouldn t be banned from schools because students
shouldn t be censored in what they read, especially if it been classified as literature. Stories like this
help students realize what it was like for colored people back then and help justify their understanding
of racism in the south. Just because the book has some vulgar language in it, doesn t mean the children
should be censored by it. Theres a good chance that they are hearing worse just from their peers, at
least when they read stories like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, they are
learning actual history and making connections on how it used to be. If you were to wipe out this book
from schools, it would be taking away the opportunity to learn about what Twain teaches in his books
like attitudes in the south, new perspectives, and examples of satire. Twain was a very ingenuity
author, which is the precise reason that his works should be taught in

Designing A Quality Product For The Longest Ice Retention
When you sit and see the outdoor industry being flooded with all these new cooler brands, you wonder
what really sets the coolers apart? After all they are still just and insulated box or cup that keeps you
drink cold. The main difference between the different brands is the type of insulation or the quality of
the seals and workmanship to make a quality product that allows little energy to escape. There are a
few questions that we have that we hope to find the answer too hear they are in the following few
sentences. With the high prices of these coolers, what is so special besides the quality? Does the type
of insulation really affect the performance of his cooler? We are about to find out which cooler is the
best to buy if you are willing to splurge and spend the money. To test this question of what brand and
insulation type allows for the longest ice retention, we are going to test six different brands coolers
and see what performs the best. The way that we are going to test the ice retention part is simple. We
will fill each cooler with the same amount of ice by volume of all of the coolers. For example, if we
have a 60 quart cooler and we fill it with 60 pounds of crushed ice, then we would fill the one gallon
cooler with one pound of crushed ice. This allows for their to be a constant. We will then leave all of
the coolers that we are testing in the same place. Next, to check the temperature of the inside of the
cooler we will open the coolers at the same time every

Persuasive Essay On Standardized Testing
If standardized testing is going to change, then now is the time. The Every Student Succeeds Act
[ESSA] has recently been enacted, and states are feeling the pressure to integrate a balanced
assessment system as mandated. As this essay has presented, the current system and models of
standardized testing are rife with problems. This proposed solution addresses the core elements of this
problem with education in the United States today. Standardized testing is here to stay. Although there
is a strong argument for it to be removed from the system of education, it is a tool used by politicians
to gage school and student performance. The best solution for the future of education is to develop a
standardized testing system that work. Standardized testing is meant to measure student performance
and growth. It would be imperative to remove the high stakes accountability component. I agree
accountability is important. However, that should be a completely separate entity. The solution I am
proposing to fix standardized testing is a multi level criterion referenced digital portfolio which assess
multiple measures through low stakes on demand adaptive tests, and stealth assessments. This solution
is designed from an amalgamation of individual alternatives to standardized testing that have been
developed by experts in an article titled 8 Alternatives to High Stakes Standardized Tests, by Sarah
Briggs. On their own they are okay, but mixed and molded, they are the answer. One of the

Dbq Essay On Rat Infestation
There have been more recent rat infestations over the years. In the articles (sources) numbers 1, 2, and
3 they explain rat infestations exploding in several places. These are the three thing to look for when
their is a rat infestation where are they occurring, the dangers to humankind, and how to eradicate
them. First, rat infestations are occurring in places around the world. According to Source 1, John
Davison explains, Recent cold weather and flooding is believed to have led the disease carrying
rodents to shelter indoors. And the situation is only going to get worse because of the increase in the
rat population thanks to a succession of milder winters, according to pest controllers. This is
explaining what causes this to happen to Britain. The bamboo seeds are causing the rat population to
go up (Gill,Source 2). This is revealing the fact that too many seeds are causing the rats to come to
Indian villages. In the article Jerry Falke stated, Last fall was an exceptionally wet season in this area
of Texas, so that means rats are trying to escape the cold (Schattenberg, Source 3). This is describing
how again the cold weather is pushing rodents in houses in barns in Texas. Weather is a ... Show more

Character Analysis of Yossarian in Catch 22
Yossarian is the main character of Catch 22, and one of just a few characters that get fleshed out
during the story. Yossarian represents many of the themes and ideas of Catch 22, and provides a
character that most people can sympathize with. Yossarian is continually worried about dying but at
the same time continues to fly his missions so someone else doesn t have to fly his for him. Yossarian
thinks he is sane while everyone else is crazy; however everyone else thinks the exact opposite. He is
also seen as different because of name, as nobody has heard it before. The battles of life versus death
and sanity versus insanity are some of the things that define Yossarian while he himself represents the
psyche of a soldier during war.
Yossarian is described as a big burley Assyrian man. His appearance makes him markedly different
from the rest of the people in his squadron and is one of the ways that he is seen as an outsider by the
rest of the squadron. In addition to his appearance, his name also makes him stand out, as it is
completely different from everyone else s and no one has ever heard it before Yossarian himself.
These differences alienate him from the rest of the squadron, save for a few of Yossarian s close
friends, and make it seem like Yossarian is special in some way, even though it is revealed that he is
not really much different than the rest of the squadron.
Even though Yossarian is different in physical appearance and name then the rest of the squadron, it is

Art Galleries And Art Museums
An institution with the purpose of preserving, protecting and publically displaying collections ranging
from various paintings to different artefacts are museums. Their historical development also led to
intellectual evolution and divergence of the public thought on objects that are placed inside.
Today we question the values of seeing those objects; for an example, museum sceptics undermine the
value of museums and collections. Nevertheless, there are several main points that argue against the
beliefs of museum sceptics and they propose that when seeing objects in a museum we gain value of
praising and preserving the past, preserving cultural heritage and acquire an educational value.
Art galleries and museums are nowadays indispensable institutions mainly in important cities around
the world. The Metropolis provides the perfect social and political environment to develop the civic
ritual founded by Art Museums and its now rooted tradition. (Duncan, 1995, p.21) However,
predominant thought that questions seeing objects in a museum is proposed by the museum sceptics .
According to Carrier, museum sceptics state that art in museums does not survive, meaning it loses its
power. Museums de facto fail to preserve the art constituted in old objects that are collected. This
belief also rejects time travel in museums since they argue that it is only an illusion. (Carrier, 2006,
pp. 50 51) This is a rather philosophical approach, but it strongly rejects the claim that old

Introduction
In early decades of the 18th century, privatization had been introduced into the market. This new
economy reforms started in western world, followed further by its implementation in Asian region in
later years. Privatization is a policy whereby the ownership of an entity or controlling right of an

This may results to either two conditions increase in unemployment rate or decreases in standard of
living due to cost saving policy implemented by the privatized firm.
Secondly, privatization also affects the welfare of the society as a whole. This can be explained by
examining again the orientation of the firm after being privatized. Theoretically, economic efficiency
can be divided into two categories, namely productive efficiency and allocative efficiency. Productive
efficiency is achieved if firms produce goods and services demanded by consumer, while allocative
efficiency is achieved if the goods produced were marketed to the right people. Right people here
means people who demands for the goods and capable to pay for it. Results from privatization is, the
market now will replace the real needs of people with those demanded item, given that it will yield
high profit for the firm. For example, basic needs like tap water and electricity is not available in
certain rural areas, but firms compete with each other to bid for mega projects in big cities. Here, firms
are no longer concern with their social responsibility towards public, but only interested in making
huge profit.

Factors leading to strokes (internet no 1 9 10)
I. Medical conditions that increase your stroke risk
Previous stroke or mini stroke (transient ischemic attack, TIA)
Depending on the most likely cause of your stroke, your doctor may advise specific medication or
consider surgery to remove fatty deposits in your carotid artery. High blood pressure
Hypertension is one of the leading risks for heart disease and stroke. Your physician may advise
dietary or lifestyle changes, or specific medications to lower your blood pressure. Diabetes
High blood sugar can increase your risk, so you should work closely with your doctor to manage it.
Heart disease
Particularly heart beat irregularities (atrial fibrillation), disease of the heart valves, congestive heart
failure or recent heart attack.
If you have one of all above, your physician may suggest medications to thin your blood and/or reduce
your cholesterol level.
2. Controllable risk factors
Smoking
Tobacco use is a major preventable risk factor for stroke and heart disease.

The Dichotomy Of Abortion
The dichotomy of the caretaker and the receiver is personified by the relationship between the mother
and her child. The mother is the sole provider for the health of the unborn for nine months and the
child has no sentience in which to exercise any desires. This places the child in a role that is virtually
parasitic and the mother in a situation that obligates her to undergo physiological and psychological
turmoil. Then is the mother then obligated to care for the organism that is growing within her or is she
allowed the decision to dispose of the fetus within her? Initially it would seem that the mother is
certainly obligated to care for the child as it was a byproduct from her actions and it is a life. Yet, the
fetus is unable of exercising any degree of care toward the mother. Should the mother care for an
organism that cannot exercise any care for her and is totally helpless throughout the initial years of its
life? Care ethics dictates that she has an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such factor is the socioeconomic status of the individual and the ramifications that a child holds.
It is certainly no secret that having a child has some negative aspects. The primary concern that I am
speaking of is monetary. Individuals that are in threatened socioeconomic situations at the time that a
child is conceived will often be unable to fiscally support a child. This is merely the initial thrust of
the issue however. The process of getting an abortion is often unreachable to women that are in
poverty or near the poverty line. The woman is living paycheck to paycheck and is unable to miss
work or she will be unable to purchase the things necessary for her to survive. In some instances the
woman might even lose her job and not receive the abortion procedure, merely exacerbating the
situation. In this situation the poverty that the woman lives in merely begets more

Cabeza de Vaca Essay
Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca is best known as the first Spaniard to explore what we now consider to
be southwestern United States. His nine year odyssey is chronicled within the book The Chronicle of
the Narvaez Expedition. His account is considered especially interesting because it is one of the very
first documents that illustrates interactions between American natives and explorers. However, when
examining the exploration of the modern United States, there are many arguments that have to do with
the entitlement to the land and the motivations behind settling in the first place. Most explorers were
obviously in favor of their own conquests and Cabeza de Vaca is of course no exception. In Chronicle

relentless they are. He describes them by saying, whoever has to fight Indians must take great care not
to let them think he is disheartened or that he covets what they own. In war they must be treated very
harshly, for should they notice either fear or greed, as a people they know how to bide their time
waiting for revenge and take courage from their enemies fears. After using up all their arrows, they

Culture And Drinking Culture
Going to bars, clubs, and drinking alcohol are parts of various cultures and societies, especially in
America. It is a common theme to go drinking on the weekends, such as on Fridays, Saturdays, and
Sundays. It may seem like going out to drinking, may be a waste of time and/or money to buy
expensive alcohol, party in dirty clubs and to listen to bad music. However, it is an important part of
the social lives for adults.
Going out to clubs and bars and drinking is a way to get together with groups of friends in your life

Gladys Monroe (Marilyn s mother) was just seven years of age and when Marilyn was only a year old.
With her mother not being able to take care of her and not trace of her father, she was quickly put into

of the foster fathers. Those foster parents were named Albert and Ida Bolender. Since Marilyn was

Marilyn was about seven years of age, she was tossed around different foster care homes and
orphanages. When Marilyn was sixteen, her foster family that she had been living with, had made the

Personally, the audio play lived up to my expectations more so than the visual play. While the visual
play was excellent and followed the play well, the setting seemed undone. For example, the kitchen
appliances were white, which didn t seem appropriate for an old farm house. Also, the attire was
underdone as well. The Sheriff didn t have an official uniform on and the attire didn t appear period
correct. On the other hand, the audio play provided the voiceover, which allows the reader to visualize
the play on their own. Secondly, I feel the visual played provided more emotional appeal. Mainly, the
emotional appeal came from the actors facial expressions and body language. Unfortunately, it s not
possible to obtain the same effect through an audio recording. Third of all, the audio recording
provided sound effects as opposed to a physical setting. For example, instead the rocking chair being

The ivory charged woodpecker (Campephilus principalis) is one of the biggest woodpeckers on the
planet, at approximately 20 inches (51 cm) long and 30 inches (76 cm) in wingspan. It is local to the

light of environment decimation and, to a lesser degree, chasing, its numbers have dwindled to the

Symbolism Of Tattoos
Tattoos are like symbols, it has different meanings and people can interpret it differently. Tattoos could
be interpreted as good, bad, evil, cute, past, present, future, personality, memories, events or about
something dear in their life. My tattoo has several symbols that have different meanings to me. It is
about my past, present, future, personality, and important people in my life. The tattoo that I would be
getting has a rose as a stem, dirt for the foundation, sunflower as the flower, inside the dirt and the
root of the flower are people, the steam and leaves have different symbols which are a book, more

I picked the rose s stem because I interpret it as a strong and dependable way to connect my symbols
together. The stem has its own defensive mechanism like its thorns. The deeper meaning of the stem
for me is that it reminds me of how I want to live my life and how it connects to everything to each
other, and if someone tries to touch and change it, I would defend my beliefs and dreams to fulfill how
I want to live life. This is the reason why I chose this stem. The flower that I chose for my tattoo is the
sunflower. This is because, for me, the sunflower is a symbol of purity, happiness, joyfulness,
compassionate, and optimistic. These personalities are a symbol to remind me this is how I want to
live my life, like living life happily and full of optimism. Therefore, I chose the sunflower as my
flower in my tattoo. I would put this tattoo on my forearm because it is easy to look at and remind me
of what these symbols bring and mean. It is also an easy way to show people because there should be
no shame in it. These are the outline of my symbolic tattoo. These symbols hold dear to me because it
is how I want to live and fulfill my life. Inside the dirt and on the stem, there is an image of human
beings. These images are a symbol of family and friends. It is on my tattoo because I know they would
always be beside me even if things go right or wrong. These symbols mean that they are dependable,

The Ending Of The Aeneid
While the ending of The Aeneid might be seen to have multiple significances, I believe that Virgil
ended the poem the way he did to make a statement about the use of power to achieve dominance and
rulership: namely, that a lust for nothing but power will ultimately consume. The poem ends with
Turnus and Aeneas facing each other one on one on the battlefield. However, it should be noted that
there are fundamental differences between the philosophies of the two combatants which should first
be grasped to fully understand the significance of Aeneas s actions in ending the war. Before the battle
between Aeneas and Turnus begins, the reader gets a glimpse of Turnus s philosophy regarding the
stakes of the battle. Either I ll send, with my hand, this deserter of Asia, this Dardan, / Down to the Pit
of the Damned and the Latins can sit down and watch while / My lone sword is refuting the charge of
dishonor we all share; / Or you [Latinus] must share my defeat. And Lavinia must go as this man s
wife. (12.14 17) Turnus believes that in war, there is no possible outcome but for one leader and his
entire army to be wiped out in the other side s pursuit of honor and glory. Aeneas s views on the battle
are displayed earlier in the poem, when he journeys down into the underworld and is instructed in
Trojan battle philosophy by his deceased father Anchises. You, who are Roman, recall how to govern
mankind with your power. / That will be your special Arts : the enforcement of peace as

Skepticism And Critical Thinking Analysis
Look to your left and then look to your right, take in everything around you. All one sees is a
materialistic world in a 3D environment. Philosophers always questioned the system and the world we
live in. Then there is a space in our awareness of reality and the environment around us, between our
knowledge and the external world. There s a veil of perception lies between us and the physical world
we interact with. For example, someone that watches the stars assumes that they are millions and
millions of light years away from him. Yet, what he sees are the stars inside himself. The external
world is a planet consisting of a huge number of objects and events that are experienced or whose
existence is accepted by the mind, but which exist independently ... Show more content on

It s the process of finding a supported conclusion, not the justification of a preconceived conclusion.
Before all the reflections that have lifted skeptical doubts causing our epistemic relation to the external
world, Skepticism can be different in attitudes, depth, and scope. A skeptic s attitude may be one of
doubt, of denial, of suspension, or one of withholding. Take it this way: 1. Things actually are P. (P is
just a complete description of the way things seemed to you to be when you looked around. It is
certainly obvious to you that things seem to you to be P. You might say that you have a special sort of
access to how things seem to you. Now, which of the following scenarios is better supported by, that
is, is more justified by, its seeming to you to be P?:) 2. You re being deceived by a very powerful evil
demon right now. This demon has the ability to manipulate your sensory impressions such that it will
seem to you that things. are some way when they are not that way at all. Accordingly, things are
actually nothing like P (2). Maybe one of the most known skeptical scenarios is René Descartes (1596
1650) in his Meditations on First Philosophy (1641). In the book, Descartes considers that he may be
dreaming or maybe that he may be being controlled by the evil demon from scenario two. What about
Hollywood, the city of movies, is using skeptical plots in their movies for example: Total Recall, The

Advantage Of Millennials
Broadcast journalist and reporter Morley Safer once stated, The workplace has become a
psychological battlefield, and the millennials have the upper hand because they are tech savvy, with
every gadget imaginable like an extension of their bodies. They multitask, talk, walk, listen, and type,
and text. And their priorities are simple: they come first (Safer). Not everyone sees the benefits of
coexisting with millennials or Generation Y in the workplace. There are several factors that often give
older generations a pause when it comes to welcoming millennials in the workplace, but if they are
given the chance, millennials can bring major advantages to businesses and corporations. Millennials
commonly bring better communication to achieve a shared goal, a more effective and near constant
use of technology, and they are more diverse and racially tolerant than other generations. There are
conflicting opinions about millennials capabilities when speaking and communicating with adults
because they are, in some ways, considered the technology generation. Millennials frequently
communicate through phone calls, Facebook, and text messages, and tend to have little to no in person
communication with their peers or elders. Some feel that millennials do not have the communication
skills that are needed in a work environment because of this. Along with being considered lazy,
narcissistic and entitled millennials have also been named the toughest generation to work with. In

similarities these two Buddha s have in common is that the Grand Buddha lack a lot of key aspects

Demon Lover is a story that gives an opportunity to the reader to chose between reality and fiction.
The story provides enough information to believe the lover is actually a paranormal being. I believe it
is a paranormal being that follows the lady from the story because of the all the evidence it provides.
At first we are told the lover made the lady an eternal or a promise out of this world. As well, the story
says that no human eye was watching her. This piece of evidence is really important because it makes
the reader think and relate the title of the story with a question of whether the lover is human or indeed
a demon. Later on the story, the letter she received made the reader think about the coincidence she

CUBA: Libre
Is it a good idea to open relations with the Cuban Government? It has been more than eighty years
since a US President has visited Cuba. The two nations have had no diplomatic relations since 1961.
One may ask how beneficial for the US to conjoin forces with Cuba? Improving relations with Cuba
will benefit American Government because of what it can learn about health care, disaster
preparedness, tourism and Trade. On March 20, 2016 President Obama arrived in Havana, Cuba with
his family. It has been more than eighty years since a sitting U.S. president has visited Cuba. President
Calvin Coolidge was the last President to visit Cuba in 1928. When Fidel Castro (former President of
Cuba) came into power in 1959 relations between the two countries devolved into arguments. Cuba is
a communist country and the U.S. is a democracy. With these differences it s hard for both the
counties to see eye to eye. Up until now, both countries used Switzerland as a mediator if they needed
to talk. Currently, Cuba has one of the most advanced medical biotechnology industries in the world.
They have over 7,000 Scientist and Engineers. The Government of Cuba invests a lot of money into

William Butler Yeats Research Paper
Yeats Irish Identity shaped poetry, mythology and history, other Irish writers, folktales, Irish Theatre.
Many people say that William Butler Yeats was the greatest poem writer from the 20th century but to
him he was just an ordinary person that had a love for writing poems. William Butler Yeats was born
on 13 June 1865 in County Dublin, Ireland to John Butler Yeats, a lawyer turned portrait painter and
Susan Mary Pollexfen, daughter of a wealthy family from county Sligo Yeats s mother shared with her
son her interests in folklore, fairies, and astrology as well as her love of Ireland, particularly the region

Yeats works drew heavily on Irish mythology and history, he never fully embraced his Protestant past
nor joined the majority or Ireland Roman Catholics but he devoted much of his life to the study in
myriad other subjects. The Irish writer s James O Grady and Sir William Ferguson were the most
influential. Through his writing Yeats found his voice to speak up against the harsh nationalist policies
of the time, his early dramatic works conveyed his respect for Irish legend and fascination with occult.
Yeats mother was the first introduce him and his sisters to the Irish folktales he grew to love so much
but little did you know that his brother jack and father was also an accomplished artist and they both
helped William in his writing and it s the reason he found his own interest in the wonderful arts as he
called them. In 1894 Yeats met friend and patron Lady Augusta Gregory and thus began their
involvement with The Irish Literary Theatre which was founded in 1899 in Dublin. Along with
literature, he also loved the theater and wrote several plays. He collaborated with the likes of Lady
Gregory, Edward Martyn and George Moore to establish the Irish Literary Theatre for the purpose of
performing Irish and Celtic plays. As a dramatist, his successful works included The Countess

Nature And Nurture In Lord Of The Flies
A feral child (also, colloquially, wild child) is a human child who has lived isolated from human
contact from a very young age, and has no (or little) experience of human care. It is said that feral
children are the real life experiment that we cannot ethically carry out. They question what the
defining factors in human nature are and furthermore how much society impacts on our personalities.
The texts I have chosen are Romulus and Remus (Roman myth), The Girl with no Name by Lynne
Barret Lee, The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling and Lord of the flies by William Golding. All four
texts propose that the experiences we have as a child are the most significant ones in making us who
we are. Most texts discuss the idea of Nature Versus Nurture Nature and nurture relates to the inherent
qualities (nature) as opposed to personal experiences (nurture). In the 1954 classic Lord of the Flies,
Golding slowly shapes the boys and leads the reader from a group of civilized young boys into true
savages. Golding uses a metaphor to compare [Jack s] laughter to the bloodthirsty snarling of an
animal. This demonstrates to the reader Jack s descent into barbarism and we question whether he is
more human or wild animal. The text is written in an omniscient third person so it is easy to see the
boy s predicament, What are we? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Civil War And Reconstruction Era
Cause of Exoduster Migration to the West
In the late nineteenth century, as the civil war and reconstruction era drew to an end, newly freed
African Americans were still faced with many problems. Slavery had taken up most if their lives and
now that they were free with no jobs. Most resorted in being farmers to former slave owners to make a
living. The whites, however, who did not agree with African Americans being free created black
codes. These were designed to force freed blacks to work on plantations. These codes also denied
blacks the right to purchase or even rent land. The Freedmen s Bureau was issued in an effort to bring
freed people to full citizenship. This would help with getting the African Americans jobs, houses,
education, land, and anything necessary to start their new lives. By 1879, Benjamin Pap Singleton, a
former slave from Tennessee, became known as the leader of the Exoduster Movement. Benjamin
Singleton urged blacks to leave the south to move westward. Kansas, at the time being a free state
became appealing to Singleton and he put advertisements up to show blacks what opportunities
awaited them in the west. Those who agreed with him and who moved west to Kansas called
themselves Exodusters. Some believed that this was their promise land. A small town by the name of
Nicodemus, Graham County, Kansas, was home to 75 Americans by the year 1876. When the Exodus
movement brought African Americans westward, the small town became known as the center

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Sports In Sports
Youths sports; advantage or disadvantage?
Organized sports is a part of the everyday life for children all over the world. Football, basketball, and

what sports it is, you get to feel a team spirit and meet new friends. That sport activities also result in
better health does not make it sound any worse. To involve youths in organized sports seems to be a
marvelous idea. But due to lack of time and high expenses, which the participitation in organized

By hitting the floor and yelling out, it allows receivers to easily understand her meaning. We can also

suppose there is a district attorney in a court trial to press charges against a defendant who commits a
third degree of murder, and the lawyer has to prove to the members of the jury that the defendant is a
cruel murder. When he illustrates the incident of the crime, he uses a sharp pen to stab on the table in
front of the jury while he speaks about how the murder uses a sharp knife to stab on the victim until
the victim is bled to death. Using a sharp pen to stab on the table is kinesics, and the demonstration
strengthens the district attorney s ideas and it helps the jury to better understand the crime. On the
defendant side, the defendant s lawyer defends the murder by telling the jury that stabbing the victim
is an unintentional action because the defendant slips and loses his balance. When the defendant s
lawyer does cross examination, he only verbally presents the story. This weakens his argument
because the jury does not see any illustration to support his claim. When the verdict comes out, the
defender is found guilty of the third degree of murder. From the communication between the two
lawyers and the jury, we see the district attorney presents a stronger argument to the jury than the
defender s attorney because he uses words and body languages

My whole philosophy of Barbie was that through the doll, the little girl could be anything she wanted
to be. Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices, Ruth says. (Inc, n.d) Ruth and
Elliot Handler are the founders of Mattel creation and in 1959 the world was given the Barbie doll.
(Inc, n.d.) The Barbie doll was introduced to a small toy fair costing $3. The Barbie doll was the first
doll to be sold that doesn t look, like a baby but more like a woman. The Barbie doll is an iconic doll

society that there is a right way to look to fit in consists of blonde hair, blue eyes, 5 8 or taller, long
legs, small waist, big boobs and butt. This encourages women to think what they have is not good
enough and they need to change it to look the best or the norm. The influences the Barbie doll has had
on body image are the unrealistic Barbie, and increasing eating disorder percentages. For every girl in
the world there are most likely 3 Barbie dolls in their house hold. Barbie dolls are accessible at almost
any store: grocery store, dollar general, Wal Mart, and a Toy Shop. From the start at age 3 and older

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hosting An Online Seminar
If you are hosting an online seminar or a similar event for the first time, you may be worrying about
coming across as unprofessional. You might have had to sit through an event like this that turned you
off, perhaps even made you leave the online seminar as you felt your time was better spent elsewhere
and are worrying the same thing will happen at your event. With the right preparation and the help of
Blue Jeans software, you can still run your first online conference call like a pro.
1. Make Your Presentation Interesting

Nobody likes speeches that run too long, whether it is at work, in school, in church, or sat at a
computer listening to a seminar. That is why when you are preparing your seminar, you should arrange
how long each segment or guest speaker will go on for and at what time you will stop and move onto
the next part. This may mean cutting off an interesting discussion, but it is still much preferable than
making the seminar run over time. Most seminars leave a large time slot at the end for questions and
answers, but even then you should keep an eye on the clock so your listeners don t get

A Paper On Tattoo Culture
Maddie Edwards
Humorous Discourse
Foundations Paper
Tattoo Culture When defining a term it first has to be understood, which is why American studies can
be incredibly difficult to define. Although using different ways of studying popular culture, in this
case tattoo culture, a better understanding of American studies can be formed. Specifically by using
the ideas of researching context to understand the time and surrounding area, self reflexivity to
understand how oneself is affected by this, and studying how the material and visual cultures of
everyday lives. Tattoos are one of these forms of popular culture, and the culture surrounding tattoos
exemplifies many of the characteristics of American Studies. When studying tattoo culture context is
significantly important, because a majority of the time this art form means something to the
individual. As Nash Smith discusses literary analysis only gives us part of the information that is
necessary in understanding where ideas stem from and how they became relevant. He also talks about
how the informations gathered from these sources needs to be interpreted in the light of a thorough
knowledge of class structure, of the stratification of taste according to levels of sophistication, and of
the different audiences in which different magazines and publishing houses addressed themselves. 1
While tattoos are not regulated by publishing houses and different magazines it is still helpful to
interrupt them based on the environment.

Spain’s Golden Age and the Reign of Philip II Essay examples
Spain s Golden Age and the Reign of Philip II
A golden age can be interpreted in many ways; it can be a time of great power for a monarch, or a
country. It can be described as a time when some activity is at its peak, or as a period of great peace,
prosperity and happiness. I will look at the period 1474 1598 to see if any of the monarchs reigns meet
any of these interpretations of a golden age .
The kingdom of Aragon had its own Cortes, which limited Ferdinand s power as he was subject to the
fueros[1]. In Castile however, the Cortes were relatively powerless; not necessary to pass laws and
had little interest in taxation. No Cortes was called between 1480 and 1498, which is ... Show more

However, this new system had a limited effect, as they were merely extensions of Ferdinand and
Isabella s councils of Aragon and Castile for example, the Council of the Indies, and were only used to
deal with new territories. Charles was still the source of all power, and the Councils only offered
advice to him. Therefore, the administration did not change much, and changes that were made were
almost ad hoc, as efficiency was only improved because of financial needs.
Philip II had many advisors, but he made the final decisions, and Philip wanted to see all paperwork,
even small matters like planning permission. This made the administration very slow, as Philip could
not look at all the paperwork from all of Spain and his other territories. However, Philip did build a
castle in Madrid, where he lived and this meant that the administration was stationary, not like with his
father and Ferdinand and Isabella; wherever they went. This did improve the administration a little,
but not by very much; he was too slow at making decisions and he wanted to know all the facts before
he made a decision but rarely he got all of the facts.
The administration of Spain did not contribute to any of the monarch s reigns being a golden age . It
did not change much in the period 1474 1598, and the monarchs did not improve it enough; therefore

This report form 1929, focused on the issue of overcrowding in the federal prison system and how
federal judges in Minnesota indicated a need of more federal prison farms in the northern part of the
state. Barstow reasoned that a prison farm could bring income and jobs to the town to make up for the
economic fall of the quarry and railroad. The town had a piece of land that had not been cleared across
the Kettle Rover to the east of the Sandstone that Barstow thought would be perfect. Barstow recruited
the help of Senator Adolph Larson, Dr. Homer p. Dredge, and businessman John F. Hawley. These
four men, later known as the prison farm four, called a town meeting and formed a committee with a
goal of obtaining a federal farm for Sandstone. The U.S. department of Justice had already announced
intent to build a new prison farm in Minnesota, but Sandstone was not the only town bidding for a
new institution. Sandstone, however, had the unique advantage of being positioned half way in the
middle of the Twin Cities and Duluth, these cities delivered most of the Minnesota s prison
population. That June, the superintendent of prisons visited the prosed site and recommended
Sandstone as the location for the new prison far. On November 10, 1931, Sandstone received the news

Christina Perri Poetic Techniques
Songs are filled with passion and emotion. Songs may have simple lyrics but there is so much
meaning to those words. The song Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri has lots of spirit and emotions. This
song is about a girl who is regaining her independence and confidence which was lost because of a
heartbreaker and she expresses her story through anger and sadness. In Perri s song , the first verse
and pre chorus show anger, depression, and recovery. In this verse I know I can t take... Christina s
angry when she talks about staying away from her heartbreaker after the damage he had done to her
emotionally. Perri also states a metaphor in stanza one line three which conveys her recovery and that
she will not follow her heartbreaker around anymore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second stanza lines three and four she uses the style of a metaphor to express that she is
independent. I ve grown too strong, to ever fall back in your arms, this does not mean she physically
grew more muscle, but she grew emotionally. She now knows she is confident, self reliant and does
not need her heartbreaker anymore. The 3rd verse is a flashback where the lyricist remembers how
traumatic it was to recover from the pain. In the lines It took so long to feel alright, remember how to
put back the light in my eyes, Perri uses imagery to say that it took her a long time to feel happy and
stand on her feet all because her ex boyfriend was emotionally detrimental. She also explains that she
regrets all the time she spent with her past boyfriend because he broke all his promises. The outro of
Jar of Hearts (where it repeats who do you think you are four times) is her in disbelief that her past
partner wants to return. Central tensions are used in this song such as dependence vs independence
and anger vs happiness. To sum up this paragraph, Perri is now independent and represents that as she
deeply despises her ex

Fannie Mae Case Study
The congress has determined that the executive compensation system is unreasonable during the crisis
in 2000s. Fannie Mae s compensation committee was equally in effective. The committee allowed the
company s CEO, Franklin Raines, to select the consultant employed to design the mortgage firm s
executive compensation plan and agreed to a tiered bonus plan that would permit Raines and other
senior managers to receive maximum bonuses without great difficulty. Raines receives $52 million in
performance based bonuses and $90 million in total compensation during 1999 and 2004. The Office
of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight found that Fannie Mae had cautiously overstated earnings to
obtains bonus linked to financial performance. Securities and Exchange Commission also found
evidence which indicates that Fannie Mae is involve in improper accounting and required it to restate
its earnings between 2002 and 2004 by $6.3 billion. Moreover, Freddie Mac was also involved in
manipulative accounting to receive bonuses. Freddie Mac s CEO Richard Syron received $19.8
million in compensation while the mortgage company s share decline from a high $70 in 2005 to $25
in the end of the year 2007. Fannie Mae s compensation philosophy is that it should attract, retain, and
reward the skilled talent needed to successfully manage a leading financial services company.

Hypothermia And Its Effect On The Weather And Environment
When one is involved in outdoor activity, the weather and environment is not to be taken lightly. Cold
injuries will happen when the weather conditions are cold, windy, or wet. Cold injuries are classified
into 3 categories: decreased core temperature (hypothermia), freezing injuries of the extremities, and
nonfreezing injuries of the extremities.1 Hypothermia (core temperature below 95°F) is classified as
mild, moderate, or severe, depending upon how low the core temperature is measured.1 Hypothermia

How Did Hermes Get Together
Zeus and Maia: Zeus was romantically involved w. a nymph named Maia and they made love in a
cave and Maia gave birth to Hermes (Mercury) who arrived at dawn. During the afternoon, he was
playing the lyre. At night, he stole Apollo s cattle.
Hermes Invents the Lyre: Hermes departed from the cave and ventured off. He discovered a tortoise
and decided to kill it and make an instrument out of it. He cut it up and used its shell, an ox s hide,
reeds, and strings of sheep gut to invent the first seven stringed lyre.
Quickly tuned the instrument and was playing songs to honor Zeus and Maia.

Hermes quickly hid within his blankets to act like he was an innocent child, but Apollo would not be
fooled. Apollo looked around the cave, and started asking Hermes questions.
Hermes claimed that he couldn t possibly have stolen them since he was a newborn. Apollo refused to
believe him. Apollo brought Hermes to the top of MT. Olympus, so Zeus could resolve the issue for
them.
Zeus Decides the Case: Apollo told his side of the story first and explained the truth: how Hermes
stole his cattle. Hermes, however, continued to lie and swore on oath that he was not guilty of
committing the crimes. Zeus knew that Hermes was lying and just laughed and commanded him to
bring Apollo to his cattle.
The Reconciliation between Hermes and Apollo: Hermes brought Apollo to his cattle, and they made
peace. Hermes began to play his lyre, which captivated Apollo. Apollo cried that it was worth 50
cows!
Apollo promised Hermes that he would be the messenger to the gods and that him and Maia would
have fame amongst the gods. Hermes decided to give the lyre to Apollo and deemed that he would be
a master of music. In exchange, Apollo granted Hermes a whip and put him in charge of the cattle.
They went back to Olympus and Zeus bonded them as

Meeting the Customer s requirements is a tough challenge as the requirements of customer are like the water of a tide; it s likely to change at any point of time. So identifying the expectations of the customer and performing service in accordance to it is a task that requires great skill. But at the end of the day if customer s expectation is met and the customer is satisfied with the product, we could say that quality has been achieved. During this stage, my customer (guide) was regularly informed about my progress. He would then suggest particulars that increased the overall quality of my work and made it a better product. Through such communication, my project was successfully completed on time in the way my guide preferred. In many perspectives, this book taught people what it was like back then and how it used to be in 1884. Others believe that, the book was full of racial slurs and was just racist in general. The controversy between both sides of this book has had tremendous opinions spoken and has really changed others mind about it but if you really decypher the book it isn t as racist as people would like to believe. It shouldn t be banned from schools because students shouldn t be censored in what they read, especially if it been classified as literature. Stories like this help students realize what it was like for colored people back then and help justify their understanding of racism in the south. Just because the book has some vulgar language in it, doesn t mean the children should be censored by it. Theres a good chance that they are hearing worse just from their peers, at least when they read stories like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, they are learning actual history and making connections on how it used to be. The main difference between the different brands is the type of insulation or the quality of the seals and workmanship to make a quality product that allows little energy to escape. There are a few questions that we have that we hope to find the answer too hear they are in the following few sentences. With the high prices of these coolers, what is so special besides the quality? Does the type of insulation really affect the performance of his cooler? We are about to find out which cooler is the best to buy if you are willing to splurge and spend the money. To test this question of what brand and insulation type allows for the longest ice retention, we are going to test six different brands coolers and see what performs the best. The way that we are going to test the ice retention part is simple. We will fill each cooler with the same amount of ice by volume of all of the coolers. For example, if we have a 60 quart cooler and we fill it with 60 pounds of crushed ice, then we would fill the one gallon cooler with one pound of crushed ice. This allows for their to be a constant. We will then leave all of the coolers that we are testing in the same place. Next, to check the temperature of the inside of the cooler we will open the coolers at the same time every ... The Every Student Succeeds Act [ESSA] has recently been enacted, and states are feeling the pressure to integrate a balanced assessment system as mandated. As this essay has presented, the current system and models of standardized testing are rife with problems. This proposed solution addresses the core elements of this problem with education in the United States today. Standardized testing is here to stay. Although there is a strong argument for it to be removed from the system of education, it is a tool used by politicians to gage school and student performance. The best solution for the future of education is to develop a standardized testing system that work. Standardized testing is meant to measure student performance and growth. It would be imperative to remove the high stakes accountability component. I agree accountability is important. However, that should be a completely separate entity. The solution I am proposing to fix standardized testing is a multi level criterion referenced digital portfolio which assess multiple measures through low stakes on demand adaptive tests, and stealth assessments. This solution is designed from an amalgamation of individual alternatives to standardized testing that have been developed by experts in an article titled 8 Alternatives to High Stakes Standardized Tests, by Sarah Briggs. Art Galleries And Art Museums An institution with the purpose of preserving, protecting and publically displaying collections ranging from various paintings to different artefacts are museums. Their historical development also led to intellectual evolution and divergence of the public thought on objects that are placed inside. Today we question the values of seeing those objects; for an example, museum sceptics undermine the value of museums and collections. Nevertheless, there are several main points that argue against the beliefs of museum sceptics and they propose that when seeing objects in a museum we gain value of praising and preserving the past, preserving cultural heritage and acquire an educational value. Art galleries and museums are nowadays indispensable institutions mainly in important cities around the world. The Metropolis provides the perfect social and political environment to develop the civic ritual founded by Art Museums and its now rooted tradition. The Ending Of The Aeneid While the ending of The Aeneid might be seen to have multiple significances, I believe that Virgil ended the poem the way he did to make a statement about the use of power to achieve dominance and rulership: namely, that a lust for nothing but power will ultimately consume. The poem ends with Turnus and Aeneas facing each other one on one on the battlefield. However, it should be noted that there are fundamental differences between the philosophies of the two combatants which should first be grasped to fully understand the significance of Aeneas s actions in ending the war. • 26. Skepticism And Critical Thinking Analysis Look to your left and then look to your right, take in everything around you. All one sees is a materialistic world in a 3D environment. Philosophers always questioned the system and the world we live in. Then there is a space in our awareness of reality and the environment around us, between our knowledge and the external world. There s a veil of perception lies between us and the physical world we interact with. For example, someone that watches the stars assumes that they are millions and millions of light years away from him. Yet, what he sees are the stars inside himself. The external world is a planet consisting of a huge number of objects and events that are experienced or whose existence is accepted by the mind, but which exist independently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s the process of finding a supported conclusion, not the justification of a preconceived conclusion. Before all the reflections that have lifted skeptical doubts causing our epistemic relation to the external world, Skepticism can be different in attitudes, depth, and scope. A skeptic s attitude may be one of doubt, of denial, of suspension, or one of withholding. Take it this way: 1. Things actually are P. (P is just a complete description of the way things seemed to you to be when you looked around. It is certainly obvious to you that things seem to you to be P. You might say that you have a special sort of access to how things seem to you. Now, which of the following scenarios is better supported by, that is, is more justified by, its seeming to you to be P?:) 2. You re being deceived by a very powerful evil demon right now. This demon has the ability to manipulate your sensory impressions such that it will seem to you that things. are some way when they are not that way at all. Accordingly, things are actually nothing like P (2). Maybe one of the most known skeptical scenarios is René Descartes (1596 1650) in his Meditations on First Philosophy (1641). In the book, Descartes considers that he may be dreaming or maybe that he may be being controlled by the evil demon from scenario two. Advantage Of Millennials Broadcast journalist and reporter Morley Safer once stated, The workplace has become a psychological battlefield, and the millennials have the upper hand because they are tech savvy, with every gadget imaginable like an extension of their bodies. They multitask, talk, walk, listen, and type, and text. And their priorities are simple: they come first (Safer). Not everyone sees the benefits of coexisting with millennials or Generation Y in the workplace. There are several factors that often give older generations a pause when it comes to welcoming millennials in the workplace, but if they are given the chance, millennials can bring major advantages to businesses and corporations. Millennials commonly bring better communication to achieve a shared goal, a more effective and near constant use of technology, and they are more diverse and racially tolerant than other generations. There are conflicting opinions about millennials capabilities when speaking and communicating with adults because they are, in some ways, considered the technology generation. Millennials frequently communicate through phone calls, Facebook, and text messages, and tend to have little to no in person communication with their peers or elders. Some feel that millennials do not have the communication skills that are needed in a work environment because of this. Along with being considered lazy, narcissistic and entitled millennials have also been named the toughest generation to work with. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is said that feral children are the real life experiment that we cannot ethically carry out. They question what the defining factors in human nature are and furthermore how much society impacts on our personalities. The texts I have chosen are Romulus and Remus (Roman myth), The Girl with no Name by Lynne Barret Lee, The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling and Lord of the flies by William Golding. All four texts propose that the experiences we have as a child are the most significant ones in making us who we are. Most texts discuss the idea of Nature Versus Nurture Nature and nurture relates to the inherent qualities (nature) as opposed to personal experiences (nurture). In the 1954 classic Lord of the Flies, Golding slowly shapes the boys and leads the reader from a group of civilized young boys into true savages. Golding uses a metaphor to compare [Jack s] laughter to the bloodthirsty snarling of an animal. • 49. Spain’s Golden Age and the Reign of Philip II Essay examples Spain s Golden Age and the Reign of Philip II A golden age can be interpreted in many ways; it can be a time of great power for a monarch, or a country. It can be described as a time when some activity is at its peak, or as a period of great peace, prosperity and happiness. I will look at the period 1474 1598 to see if any of the monarchs reigns meet any of these interpretations of a golden age . The kingdom of Aragon had its own Cortes, which limited Ferdinand s power as he was subject to the fueros[1]. In Castile however, the Cortes were relatively powerless; not necessary to pass laws and had little interest in taxation. No Cortes was called between 1480 and 1498, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this new system had a limited effect, as they were merely extensions of Ferdinand and Isabella s councils of Aragon and Castile for example, the Council of the Indies, and were only used to deal with new territories. Charles was still the source of all power, and the Councils only offered advice to him. Therefore, the administration did not change much, and changes that were made were almost ad hoc, as efficiency was only improved because of financial needs. Philip II had many advisors, but he made the final decisions, and Philip wanted to see all paperwork, even small matters like planning permission. This made the administration very slow, as Philip could not look at all the paperwork from all of Spain and his other territories. However, Philip did build a castle in Madrid, where he lived and this meant that the administration was stationary, not like with his father and Ferdinand and Isabella; wherever they went. This did improve the administration a little, but not by very much; he was too slow at making decisions and he wanted to know all the facts before he made a decision but rarely he got all of the facts. The administration of Spain did not contribute to any of the monarch s reigns being a golden age . It did not change much in the period 1474 1598, and the monarchs did not improve it enough; therefore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I ve grown too strong, to ever fall back in your arms, this does not mean she physically grew more muscle, but she grew emotionally. She now knows she is confident, self reliant and does not need her heartbreaker anymore. The 3rd verse is a flashback where the lyricist remembers how traumatic it was to recover from the pain. In the lines It took so long to feel alright, remember how to put back the light in my eyes, Perri uses imagery to say that it took her a long time to feel happy and stand on her feet all because her ex boyfriend was emotionally detrimental. She also explains that she regrets all the time she spent with her past boyfriend because he broke all his promises. The outro of Jar of Hearts (where it repeats who do you think you are four times) is her in disbelief that her past partner wants to return.
