This presentation provides details of Western and Islamic perspectives of Human rights, focusing violation of rights during world War I and II, formation of United Nations and Universal Declaration of human rights. Furthermore, it provides valuable insights of human rights given in Quran.
3. HUMAN RIGHTS
Human rights are the moral claims, which are
inherent to all human beings regardless of their
race, nationality, language and religion.
There are two concepts of human rights,
namely western and Islamic.

4. WESTERN PERSPECTIVE OF
HUMAN RIGHTS
Magna Carta ( or the “Great Charter” ) was the first document
which provided the basis for the individual rights in the west.
It was introduced by some of the most notable barons of the
13th century in an act of rebellion against their king; King John
of England.

5. GLORIOUS REVOLUTION
The Glorious revolution,
also called “the bloodless
revolution” took place from
1688 to 1689 in England.
It shifted the absolute
monarchy in England to the
constitutional monarchy.
BILL OF RIGHTS (1689)
The “Bill of rights” is an
act of England parliament,
which was introduced in
1689. It limited the power
of monarchy and elevated
the status of parliament in
England. Moreover, it has
also outlined the rights of
individuals of England.
6. The “US War of Independence”
was the insurrection fought
between 1775 till 1783, through
which thirteen American
colonies threw off the British
rule to establish the sovereign
United States of America.
Under the leadership of George
Washington, Americans defeated
the British military and secured
their independence on July
4th,1776.

BILL OF RIGHTS OF 1791
The first ten amendments of
the American constitution are
known as “Bill of Rights”.
They guaranteed the rights of
individuals and imposed
limitations on Federal and
state governments.
7. On July 14th, 1789, a Paris mob
stormed the Bastille prison, in
search of arms and ammunition
that was believed to have been
stored there.
It spread the slogan
of “liberty, equality
and fraternity”.
It has abolished the
monarchy and
feudalism in France.
FRENCH REVOLUTION (1789-1799)
8. WORLD WAR l
The World War l, also called
the “Great War” was a global
conflict which lasted
between 1914 to 1918.
It was fought between the
Central powers, mainly
Germany, Turkey, Hungary
and the Allies, France,
Britain, Russia, US.
People from all over the
world suffered from diseases
and disabilities.
WORLD WAR ll
The World War ll was one of
the greatest watersheds of
20th century.
The main belligerents of the
war were the Axis powers-
Germany, Italy, Japan and
the Allies- France, Britain,
Soviet Union, US.
Millions of people died due to
genocides (including the
Holocaust), massacre and
disease.
9. FORMATION OF UNITED NATIONS:
The horrors of the World War ll led to the
formation of United Nations on October 24th, 1945.
It aims to maintain the international peace and
security and to protect the human rights.
UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF
HUMAN RIGHTS:
The declaration was adopted by the UN General Assembly in Paris
on December 10th, 1948.
It obligated every state to recognize the equal rights of life,
property, liberty and religious freedom of every individual of the
state.
Every year, 10th December is being celebrated as Human rights day.
