Banana Bowl Vs Melting Pot
Soup or Salad?
Does America have a personality? There are many factors that can affect someone s personality, but
America s personality is categorized by the conflicting attitudes of nationalism and individualism.
These attitudes affected America s view towards issues of immigration. Depending on which
American personality is being used determines whether or not America is been recognized as a
Salad Bowl or a Melting Pot as a country. When America is being described as Nationalistic, then
the country is a Melting Pot due to the focus on the assimilation of immigrants. Conversely,
when America is being described as Individualistic, the nation is a Salad Bowl because of the
focus of cultural retention. The debate of whether or not America s personality is best
represented by a Melting Pot or a Salad Bowl began after the turn of the century; this debate is
clearly depicted in the beliefs and works of Diego Rivera and George Bellows. Firstly, Diego
Rivera s Detroit Industry is a quintessential and accurate representation of America s Melting Pot
personality. Painted in 1933, this magnificent masterpiece takes up twenty seven panels and can
be found at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Additionally, this Mexican artist s work can be seen as
frescoes, which he describes as, paintings done rapidly in watercolour on wet plaster on a wall or
ceiling, so that the colours penetrate the plaster and become fixed as it dries (Rivera Court 1). His
artwork depicts laborers

Swot Analysis Tim Hortons
Tim Hortons, which became an establishment in 1964 competes in the fast food restaurant
industry. It is most well known for its coffee and donuts. Currently the restaurant industry in
Canada as of 2014 has shrunk. Which was a decline of 4% from 2013. (Hyatt). Although, top
chain restaurants like Tim Hortons are at the top of list of restaurants opening in the industry. The
province with the most growth in the restaurant industry is Saskatchewan with an increase of 5.3%
from 2013 to 2014. (Economic Look Ahead). With the shrinkage of restaurants, baby boomers
retiring and less people entering the workforce in the next decade there is a high demand for
workers in the industry. As of 2011 there were 1,118,600 restaurant workers in Canada
. In 2020 the
projected demand for restaurant workers will be 1,322,000, which will result in a projected
shrinkage of 76,500 in that same year.(Help Wanted: Labour Demand in Canada s Restaurant
Industry). The industry is shrinking and is predicted to shrink in the coming years. Top chains will
be said to be opening more often, but with policies and organizational rules becoming stricter it is
becoming harder to open a franchise. The industry is currently not doing well. (Help Wanted:

Similarities And Differences Between Yanomamo And Samoan...
Different cultures have different ways of experiencing aspects of their culture. There are many
similarities and differences between the Yanomamo and Samoan peoples. Cultural differences and
similarities need to be paid attention to. Also, the similarities need to be celebrated. The Samoans
and Yanomamo have different and similar subsistence methods, division of labor, occupational
specialization, exchange of goods, and the economic link to power. The differences and similarities
between the Yanomamo and Samoan peoples are striking and deserve thorough examination.
The first aspect of Samoan and Yanomamo life that is different is subsistence methods. The
Yanomamo have different forms of subsistence than the Samoans. The Samoans mainly rely on
agriculture. According to Peters=Golden, clearing the land for planting is hard work. (Peters
Golden 225) The Samoans use cutting tools like axes and knives get rid of trees and bushes and
other foliage. The Samoans also use small fires to eliminate everything else. Peters Golden writes
that digging sticks are then employed to dislodge rocks and loosen the soil for planting. (Peters
Golden 225) Similarly to the Samoans, the Yanomamo also rely on agriculture. However, they also
utilize foraging, unlike the Samoans. The Yanomamo also hunt, and, similarly to the Samoans, they
fish. (Peters Golden 226, 271) Despite that, Peters Golden says that the bulk of Yanomamo food
(more than 80 percent) is grown in their village gardens.

The Effect of Temperature on Membrane

Objective
To investigate the effect of temperature on membrane structure
Introduction
Beetroot Pigments
Beetroots contain Betalains which are the red pigments present in the cell vacuole. Betalains are
soluble in water and they contain nitrogen. Betalains extracted from beetroot is commonly used as
food dye because it is not known to cause any allergic reactions.

The results increase steadily between 0В°C and 45В°C. There is a steep increase between 45В°C
and 65В°C. This is the point when the proteins in the cell membranes are denatured causing gaps to
form in the membrane, thus allowing more red pigment from the beetroot to diffuse into the
distilled water.
An increase in temperature increases the kinetic energy of betalain molecules thus increasing rate of
diffusion of the red pigment from the cytoplasm into the distilled water. The denatured proteins and
an increase in the fluidity of the phospholipid causes the substance contained in the membrane to
leak out.
There is a small increase in the spectrophotometer reading between the temperatures 0C 23C. This
is because the membrane structure becomes more rigid and less red pigments leak out of the
membrane.
Validity and Reliability
The experiment is repeated twice and an average is obtained. This ensures the consistency of the
measurement as the reading is triplicated, thus reducing anomalies. It can be seen that the reading
obtained were around the same value. This proves that the results are reliable.
The results obtained support the hypothesis at the beginning of the experiment. Apart from that, the
experiment is conducted according to the instructions given. This increases the validity of the
experiment.

Difference Between Psychology And Psycholinguistics
Psycholinguistics is an incorporation of two words psychology and linguistic , psychology is
derived from the Greek word than the word pscychology. from the root word psyche meaning soul

linguistics is the language of any form of communication in which a person s thoughts and

the language is a symbol of the earth that is the arbiter for frequently used group of men at his age

Roman Religion Essay
Religion played a significant role in the Roman civilization but, many people believe that Rome
was not a religious place. What they probably mean is that it was not a moral place. (Burrell, 65)
The Romans had innumerable gods that they worshiped which included giving gifts and sacrificing
for their gods. Sacrificing animals was common for ancient Roman civilization. The idea of
sacrificing came from the people before the Roman Empirewas built. Religion primarily used
sacrificing as a means of showing appreciation to the gods but later became a way to get things
from the gods. The increases in the expansion of Rome lead to an increasing number of sacrifices.
Roman sacrificewas done in many different ways and there were numerous... Show more content on

Romans utilized praying to gods to make them successful or likely, not to make them better or
nobler therefore, Romans never seemed to mind how many different beings they had to worship.
(Burrell, 65) Romans would pray more often to increase the chance they had of their prayers being
heard by a god.
Romans sacrificed or offered gifts to gods, heroes and the dead to request assistance. There were
six categories that they sacrificed for based on motives, fulfillment of a vow, thank offering,
offerings made in the expectation of favours, sacrifices made at the instigation of the gods,
sacrifices as a result of divination and anniversary dedications. (Adkins)
The most common type of sacrifice was the fulfillment of a vow. Through this method, a person
is requesting an action from a god a promise of a sacrifice is made. The next method, a thank
offering was a result of a favor granted freely. Offerings made in the expectation of favours is a
sacrifice would be made to a god and with anticipation of the request being granted, usually the
request would be for the health of a given person. Unlike the vow method the person doing the
sacrifice is not expecting a guaranteed fulfillment. Sacrifices made at the instigation of gods are
preformed when a person felt that a sacrifice was necessary through a dream or another sign from
a specific god. Sacrifices as a result of divination, were a result of consulting oracles. A person

The Chosen Character Analysis
The Characteristics of a Coach
Everyone in society should be a role model, not only for their own self respect, but for respect
from others. ~ Barry Bonds. In this world bad situations occur frequently and it takes a good
strong person to handle them in a mature way. Dealing with them this way not only shows that
the person has self control, but also makes them a good role model for people to look up to. In the
book The Chosen, Chaim Potok uses Mr. Galanter to express his opinions of a good role model.
Acting as a baseball coach and gym teacher, young boys look to him for guidance and motivation
every day. Having this kind of position causes stress at times, and requires him to stay calm and

Why We Shouldn T Have Homework
Why Students Shouldn t Have Homework I believe, as a student, that homework is just a tool
that teachers use to keep us busy. Being a student who has received homework for various years,
I have found that homework causes me a lot of stress (Ethos). Homework causes kids to get very
stressed out, it causes stress in their families, and studies show that it does not improve test
scores. Harris Cooper, a worker at Duke University (Ethos), found out that, doing more than 60 to
90 minute of homework in middle school and more than 2 hours in high school is associated with
much lower scores (Logos). This just shows that homework is a useless item that students are
forced to do. Firstly, students have to wake up from seven until two o clock everyday,... Show more

By not giving out homework, students will work harder in class and have better grades.
Teachers have to understand that if students are tired from late nights, they wouldn t be able to
work efficiently during the day. In addition, students would be much more excited to come to
school because they know they wouldn t have to worry about getting any homework. In 2010, a
survey was taken and it showed that about 70% of teen ages 11 to 17 get less than 8 hours of
sleep per day due to the amount of homework they have to do (Logos). According to Alfie Kohen,
students feel forced to do their homework, therefore they aren t learning as much as they should
(Ethos). Students lose interest in the topic and do not benefit from what they re learning. In
China, a cry for change by a mother who lost her thirteen year old daughter who committed
suicide due to her inability to achieve in math, the mother considers homework is a huge negative
factor toward her deceased daughter s tragic ending along with the pressure of society (Pathos).
Such a story should leave us wondering, how many more children need to suffer the silent
epidemic of school stress. Statistics prove the leading cause for the majority of physical and
emotional complaints leading up to diagnosis of depression in middle and high school due to the

Religion and Science Need Each Other
Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. This famous quote was
spoken by a man even more famous for his scientific works in the fields of physics and
mathematics. Albert Einstein, famous scientist, is found here stating that without religion
science is, essentially, useless. Surely it is impossible for a man so accomplished in the
scientific field to seriously consider the possibility of God? Certainly, we live in a time where
there has been much condemnation and ridicule of the idea of faith by scientists such as
Dawkins and Atkins, but does that mean that these two world views are incompatible? Although
I really respect the work of both of those great biologists in my view, faith and science are
definitely compatible. It is in no doubt that science is an excellent tool to exploit and explore the
universe. It is the ability to work out how things work is undeniable. However, there are
seemingly, things which science cannot answer. Namely the question of Why? . Science has
made staggering discoveries into how the universe came about and the way in which it formed,
even down to the purpose for feelings such as fear. But for all the ground breaking discoveries
into how the universe was made, it simply cannot answer why the universe came into existence
into first place. A question religion seems to answer. If we are to stay with subject of creation, we
find many places in which it seems that science and faith not only seem to be present

The Working For A Major Cola Company
We were assigned the ultimate task of finding the phosphoric acid in several rival sodas for this
experiment but to get there it required many steps to be taken in advance. As we were a working
for a major cola company it was crucial that we were aware of how to use the technology and
then more importantly the relationships between all the findings we made through numerous
experiments. Our main source of technology was a spectrophotometer so in order to move
forward in finding anything out about the colas we had to learn how to use this Spec 20. After
looking at the machine and doing research we determined that by using the Spec 20 we would be
able to get values of both absorbance and % Transmittance for a solution. The Spec 20 is able to
give these values by shining a lightbeam through a solution and measuring the intensity before and
after it has passed through the solution.1 After doing research we were able to put the machine to
use in order to get first hand experience of how to use the machine and to get an understanding of
the relationships between results present by the spectrophotometer. Food coloring was the subject
of our first tests with the Spec 20 and our group choose the colors red and blue. Along with the
food coloring we would also be running Potassium Permanganatethrough the machine. By sending
light beams of different wavelengths through the solutions we were able to find the absorbance of
each solution shown in Table 1 as well as the relationship

Schema Integration Essay
In literature there exist several definitions of Schema:
Schema integration is the process of merging autonomously developed DB schema into a unified,
global schema to provide transparency through a unified view [73].
Schema integration is the process of identifying the components of a database which are related to
one another, selecting the best representation for the global conceptual schema, and finally,
integrating the components of each intermediate schema [74].
12.2.Why is Schema Integration Required?
With respect to the web warehouse, schema integration is one of its important perspectives. There
are heterogeneous sources of data in World Wide Web which vary in their schema configuration.
Schemas from different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pre integration
An analysis of local schemata is carried out. The analysis made governs the choice of schemas to
be integrated and the order of integration. A number of schemas to be integrated at a time and the
amount of designer interaction are also decided in this step [81].
12.4.2.Schema Comparison/Matching
This step involves identifying and analyzing inter schema relationships by determining the
correspondences between the schemas. Possible conflicts are also detected in this phase.
12.4.3.Schema Conforming
In order to integrate schemas, the detected conflicts between them have to be resolved so that it
was possible to merge them [81]. It implies modification of one or both schemas that will be
integrated until each phenomenon in the Universe of the Discourse (UoD) reflects the same form
in both schemas.
12.4.4.Schema Merging
Schema merging results into a single global integrated schema by superimposing the local schemas.
12.5.Conflicts in Schema Integration
Schema integration process may face certain conflicts. The system undergoing the integration
process must be able to identify the arise conflicts. Some of the schema integrations conflicts are
explained below:
12.5.1.Naming Conflict
Different databases use different naming conventions. Naming conflicts occur due to the use of
different names for the same attribute like

Gospel Music Research Paper
The Progression from spirituals to Black Gospel Music
Many people would refer to gospel music as religious songs or songs regarding to life as a
Christian. Gospel music varies, which gives an alternative to Christian music with a mix of secular
music. With it being many styles of Christian music, the performance, the lyrics, instruments and
the formation, gives gospel music different meanings. To most, gospel is simply thanks and
praise and worship to the Lord. The establishment of gospel goes way back with European and
African roots. The first known use of gospel was in 1874 when a European songwriter named
Philip P. Bliss titled a songbook as Gospel Songs. Tribal African music was highly different than

The Effects Of Viral Encephalitis On The Disease
The disease I have chosen to explore is viral encephalitis. Encephalitis refers to brain inflammation
(PDR, 2014, Diagnosis), which is rare but can be extremely dangerous (Mayo, 2014, Basics;
University of Maryland, 2013, Introduction). Severe cases of encephalitis can lead to permanent
damage and death (Mayo, 2014, Complications). Encephalitiscan also be caused by bacteria and
fungi, or develop as a result of a non infectious cause, but encephalitis is usually caused by a virus
(Mayo, 2014, Causes; PDR, 2014, Basics).Symptoms of encephalitis usually begin between 2 and

Encephalitis infections typically last between 1 and 3 weeks (PDR, Treatment). However,
depending on severity of the infection and the virus that caused it, recovery can last months and
some level of impairment may be permanent, such as paralysis or exhaustion (Mayo, 2014,
Complications; PDR, 2014, Treatment). It is also possible for those who have had viral
encephalitis to experience seizures later in life, particularly those who had seizures during the
initial infection (Gondim, 2013, Prognosis). Certain types of viral encephalitis will cause death up
to 70 percent of the time, if not treated early (Gondim, 2013, Prognosis; PDR, 2014, Treatment).
Viral encephalitis can either be a primary infection, with the virus directly affecting the brain
(Mayo, 2014, Causes; PDR, 2014, Diagnosis), or a secondary infection, caused by the immune
system attacking the brain as well as the originally affected tissues (Mayo, 2014, Causes).
Secondary viral encephalitis usually takes place a couple of weeks after the original infection
(Mayo, 2014, Causes). The viruses that cause encephalitis can be spread in a number of ways,
depending on the particular virus. The most common ways are insect bites and person to person
contact (University of Maryland, 2013, Causes). In the case of insect bites, the insect originally got
the virus as a result of biting an infected animal, which then multiplied in the insect

Gauis Petronius The Satyricon
The Satyricon by Gauis Petronius Arbiter (Petronius) (d. 66 CE) is in various ways an extreme
exaggerated narrative of Roman dining practices in his time period. The section regarding the
Dinner with Trimalchio illustrates this notion through his character Encolpius first hand experience
in attending this event. The satirical portrayal of self made millionaire , Trimalchio goes to an
extreme where he invited guest to his abode for a dinner to honor him, and to show off his grand
status.
Petronius satirical novel stems around social manners within the world of classical antiquity, where
it seems his intent is to amuse his audience, but in that amusement also demean the aristocracy with
his light wit. The author shows his audience, the lengths to which Trimalchio goes to portray his

The Pros And Cons Of The Overland Campaign
The Overland Campaign, which saw the bloodiest fighting in the continent of North American,
was a necessary evil to end the American Civil War. Starting on May 4th of 1864, the newly
promoted Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant committed to destroying Robert E. Lee and his
Army of Northern Virginia in the field. First, one must look at what the Overland Campaign
entailed. Next, this paper will examine previous major Northern victories and consider the
differences between them and Grant s campaign. Finally, one can come to the conclusion that
the Overland Campaign effectively helped end the war and without it, fighting was sure to be
prolonged. After his successes in the West, U. S. Grant became the first Lieutenant General
since George Washington on March 2nd of 1864 and assumed command of the entire Union
Army. Hopes were high for General Grant, seen in a letter the previous year, President Abraham
Lincoln expressed his trust for Grant when he that he originally feared it was a mistake in
regards to his attack on Vicksburg and I now wish to make the personal acknowledgment that you
were right, and I was wrong. Heretofore, Union Generals in the East focused on capturing specific
cities, however, Grant wanted to cripple the Confederate Army. In a letter from Grant to Major
General George Meade before the Overland Campaign began, he outlined his intentions of the
operation, writing that Lee s army will be your objective point. Wherever Lee goes, there you will

Reflecting back on the book of Culture Media chapter 8: the movie theater began to make the
movie theater more comfortable for consumer. In realty movies brings families together. Movies
show things that people idolizes or the true culture of things. The inside of a celebrity s life
might be reviled in most movies. That gives Americans a since of what to dream of and achieve
later in life. Chapter 9 also stated that, the nature of crime that involved celebrities would show a
bad image of Americans. Meaning when the movies that would come out in the 1900 s it began a
very bad outrage, because of the content that it carried. Some felt that it let off racial content. That
later lead to riots at some of the viewings. Yes, entertainment can have a big effect on attitudes.

Sport Psychology Essays
Sport Psychology
In earlier days sports psychology was mostly concerned with developing assessment methods that
would identify those people with the potential to become serious superior athletes. Today the focus
is on psychological training, exercises that strengthen the mental skills that will help athletic
performances on the path to excellence. These skills include mental imagery and focus training. If
an athlete is serious about becoming the best he or she can possibly be, the most essential
ingredient is commitment to practice the right things. It takes incredible commitment to reach the
top: a commitment to rest and train the body so it can perform under the most demanding
conditions and a commitment to train the mind to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Visualization is a common term used to describe guided imagery or the process of forming
images in our mind like pictures or moves, images recreating our best performances, and the way
it feels to perform just the way we want it to. These images can be visual, kinesthetic how our
body feels, tactile how it feels to the touch, auditory how it sounds, even olfactory what we smell.
Using mind power we can call upon these images over and over, enhancing skill through repetition
rehearsal. The mind and body can become more prepared to actually perform the skill, and can
improve both physical and mental reactions in certain situations. The developing athletes, who
make the fastest progress and who ultimately become their best, make extensive use of mental
imagery. They use it daily, as a means of directing what will happen in training, and as a way of pre
experiencing their best competition performances. Mental imagery often starts out simply, as you
think though your goals, your moves, and your desired competitive performances.
Kelly Kryczka, former world champion in synchronized swimming duet discuses the use of on
site imagery. We did a lot of imagery during training sessions, especially as the competition

The United States has always a gun and hunting culture starting from the birth of the country itself.
The men who fought in the war of independence were citizens who owned their own muskets.
However the issue of gun control can be traced back to the Civil War, as new African American
citizens needed to protect themselves from their previous owners in the south that would often hunt
them down. The problematic of gun control have changed greatly due to the evolution of times.
From the late twentieth century until today, gun control has been highly debated because of
recurrent mass shootings, such as Columbine, such as Sandy Hook, such as Virginia Tech, such as
San Bernardino, and such as Roseburg just to name a few. Many have pleaded for thorough
background checks to prevent convicts or the mentally handicapped from owning guns, while
others argue that US citizens should follow in the steps of advanced European countries and no
longer possess these lethal weapons. Others who are often leaning to the right argue that this a
fundamental right that defines americanism and shapes American pride and historic culture.
However recurrent mass shootings are nothing to be proud of.
The second amendment of the Constitution guarantees the right of every American to bear arms.
Therefore many supporters of gun ownership have been using this right to

Corrupted Imperial Rome
Imperial Rome was an era that had drastic political benefits and deficits. There were a variety of
different dynasties that ruled during this period. All of the dynasties ruled after the assassination of
Julius Caesar. He was thought to be a conspirator of corruption, but his death was to promote
corruption. Among the leaders of Rome, corruption was widespread.
Augustus was one of many leaders that supported corruption. Julius Caesar was executed for
supporting corruption. Coincidentally, Julius Caesar s successors were more corrupted than he
supposedly was. The reason why Julius was killed was because Julius Caesar was for not doing

He gave signs of corruption, and these leaders often had harsh deaths. In the year 41 AD,
Caligula was assassinated by the Praetorian Guard. His successor, Claudius, proved to be an
emperor by adding Britain to the empire. During the years of 54 through 68 AD, Claudius died
and Nero became emperor. Nero is one of the main conspirators. One of the reasons was because
Nero forced Seneca, who was a philosopher that tutored Nero before becoming emperor, to
commit suicide. He killed his mother, wife and his tutors. Nero believed that he was an
excellent musician and forced his citizens to attend his concerts. Some of the cruelties were
persecuting Christians by burning them alive at his garden parties. A fire broke out in 64 AD,
and was caused by Nero so that he could build a new palace called Domus Aurea. Nero realized that
there was a bounty on his head, so he fled Rome and killed himself in 68 AD (Stevenson).
The unreasonable dictatorship of Nero caused Romans to no longer trust the Julio Claudian
family. His corruption ruined the reputation of his family and Rome. Corruption is so popular, but
so disliked by civilians. After Nero s flee, a fight over emperor began, and Vespasian was included.
Vespasian won the conflict and became emperor, so thus began the Flavian Dynasty. Vespasian died

Furthermore, if you are living abroad, try to find nation based communities. This is very helpful
because if the language is a problem for you, there will people who speak your native language in

occasional gatherings where you can meet with other community members and become a part of

The Effect Of Myasthenia Gravis On The Body s Immune System
Definition:
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a chronic autoimmune disorder of the neuromuscular system part of the
body. Chronic means persisting for a long time or constantly recurring. Autoimmune disorder is the
confusion of the body s immune system. The immune system form antibodies that mistakenly
identify healthy tissue as foreign and then, the antibodies will attack and/or destroy healthy body
tissue. Neuromuscular is the nervous system relationship with the muscles bring about body

also be signs and symptoms of other diseases, one or more of the voluntary muscle groups may
experience weakness and with different degrees of severity, and also every patient may experiences
the disease differently. After the medical history and physical examination, the physician may see a
need for further muscle and neurological tests. Blood tests can detect abnormal antibodies. Nerve
conduction studies and repetitive stimulation tests the nerve s communication with the muscle.
When stimulated a number of times the test will indicate muscle weakness. Single fiber (EMG)

There are two common shapes in this group, which is quadrant and elongate shape. The specimens

German Schools Vs American Schools
American schools and German schools have many differences.
In the United States, students customize much of their education, especially at higher grade levels.
They must study core curriculum, like math, English, and science, but also can choose what
language they take, whether they take art classes or shop class, and so forth. They make decisions
about what interests they wish to explore, and they can change that decision if they discover they
do not care for it.
German students have a much more prescribed curriculum and are not able to explore as many of
their own interests in the classroom. German students learn many of the same basics as American
students, but their education paths diverge earlier than students in the US. Starting in

Natural System And Unique Design Of Permaculture
Natural System Unique Design of Permaculture Sustainability is the idea that creat[ing] and

[will] support present and future generations (Learn About Sustainability). For these reasons,
sustainability is an important part of our world today. We are making an effort to move towards
sustainabilityby using permaculture. Permaculture can be described as designing constructed
ecosystems that serve the needs of human populations without degrading our natural environment
(Cruz Osentowski). Permaculture originally emerged in Australia in the late 1970 s by Bill

scientific knowledge, of ageless wisdom and innovative ideas, of time tested strategies and useful
information from around the world (Cruz Osentowski). Permaculture is unique because it is a
natural system that has a one of a kind design. It is also important to note that a cornerstone of
permaculture philosophy is to turn problems into opportunities, and apparent wastes into resources
(Cruz Osentowski). When thinking about permaculture we can think about to things what actually
takes place in nature and what happens in imitating nature (Cruz Osentowski). When planning to

The Challenge of Health Information Exchange
HIE face a range of challenges as they try to get hundreds and even thousands of participants in
sharing data. Getting data in front of doctors and other clinicians is one of the biggest
challenges HIEs face. Ideally, it would be delivered directly to a providers EMR system, so
when a patient goes to an outside lab for blood tests, the results would show up in the electronic
record at the doctor s office, and the doctor would be notified that the results are there. However,
with limited EMR use across the country, HIEs have had to provide alternative delivery methods.
HIE is considered to be one of the key components of the national health IT infrastructure being
established by the HITECH Act. Policymakers and health care providers believe this health IT
infrastructure will produce a number of benefits, many of which are directly related to HIE.
Benefits of HIE
Physicians can help to ease the transition to a patient electronic health record by engaging the
patients in open dialogue that will educate the patient on the benefits of an electronic record and
address their concerns. Physicians can let patients know that their electronic record will enable

Concealed Weapons in the United States
In the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights the founding fathers of America gave us the
right to bear arms for self defense. Although everyone in America has the right to own a firearm,
you must have a concealed carry permit in order to bring a hidden handgun into a public area.
Through people carrying concealed handguns we can reduce violent crimes. Each state gets to
determine if they will allow concealed weapons. If the state does permit concealed carry then
people have to go through a long process before they can receive their concealed weapons permit.
A person must first fill out the application, then State police post the names to a private website

Most feel safer knowing that they would be able to protect themselves and others if needed. For
most people they only plan to carry in certain conditions. Like if they are going somewhere they
don t know or aren t comfortable with (Litchfield). Others want to own a gun in case of a
shooting or other public disaster. Calling 911 can get help on their way quickly. However even a
few minutes can be the difference between life and death. It takes a few minutes for police to
arrive at a crime but if someone already there has a concealed handgun they could end the
violence much faster. Quick responses not only limit the number of casualties, but reduce the
attention these killers garner from committing their crimes. We can t get rid of gun free zones
soon enough (Lott). Some worry that by giving out these permits it makes it legal for bad
people to bring handguns into public places where they could harm numerous others. That just
doesn t make sense. If a person plans to break the law by harming others then why would they
work so hard to obtain a permit so they can legally have the gun with them. One of the most
common reasons people give for wanting to get rid of guns is public shootings, particularly school
shootings (Quinn). It truly is tragic that people would take a weapon into an area to shoot innocent
bystanders for no reason. However getting rid of guns is not the solution. Even if we get rid of

On Monday, we tested our car with 50g weights, but it was not energy efficient as the energy

The second problem I faced this week was; when I put 150g weights in the back of the car, the

Hybrid Vehicle Disadvantages
The pros and cons of Hybrid/Alternative Fueled Vehicles:
There are many factors to consider when purchasing a Hybrid or Alternative Fueled Vehicle. Most
times when searching for a vehicle, consumers tend to search for amenities to help cut cost. When
considering alternative fueled vehicles, consumers have to keep in mind that there are several
types of hybrid vehicles with different operating abilities to choose from to satisfy the needs of the
consumers. With hybrids, there are three types which are hybrid electric vehicles, plug in hybrid
electric vehicles and all electric vehicles. Since they all operate differently, it is important to be
informed to ensure the consumer is happy and satisfied with their investment.
Hybrid Electric Vehicles consist of gasoline engines, electric motors and use advanced
technology to operate. One of the technologies used is a regenerative braking, which recaptures
energy that is lost during coasting or braking. The use of the forward wheels is what turns the
motor which generates electricity and assist to slow the vehicle. There is also a normal hydraulic
braking system that stops the vehicle when the regenerative system isn t sufficient. Another
technology used is the Electric Motor Drive/Assist which allows the electric motor to provide
power and assist the engine in accelerating, passing and hill climbing. It also allows a smaller,
more efficient engine to be used. The electric motor in hybrids drives the vehicle at low speeds,

Impact of British Imperialism
In the late 1800 s, European nations only controlled about 10 percent of the continent of Africa,
France to the north and Britain to the south (Edgar, 2008). As time goes by, other countries gain
conquests, mostly in western areas of Africa. This essay will go over a few key points in history
that led to the Age of Imperialism and the British colonization of Southern Africa. The essay will
also identify key players in this age. Southern Africa was known for its gold and other valuable
items that made it so appealing to Europeans. This and many other reasons led to wars over the

Britain was also interested in areas known to be rich in minerals like the country of Transvaal,
(David, 2011). They also aimed at keeping other countries out of their territories so as to not lose
the upper hand in the search for gold and priceless gems. Because of this plan to keep other
countries out, by the late 1800 s Britain was in control of about 30% of Africa s population.
Although the plan to abolish slavery, set down by the regulations put out by the Berlin conference,
slavery still flourished in the Congo. A French missionary by the name of Cardinal Charles
Lavigerie, exposes King Leopold as the sole profiteer of slave trade in the Congo, (David, 2011).
So at a sermon in Paris at St. Sulpice in 1888, Lavigerie shocked the people with the horrible
things King Leopold s men were subjecting the natives of Africa to (David, 2011). At this,
Brussels Conference, King Leopold would agree to abolish Arab slave trade in return for the right
to tax imports, (David, 2011).
On the subject of African Resistance, conflicts between natives did not change during the invasion

Reflection On Meditation And Visualization
Meditation And Visualizing: Review.
Most people hear about meditation from their families and friends but have little knowledge of
what the practice actually entails. Before joining my Masters Program in the field led by my
experienced and knowledgeable Professor Sophie Sore, I was both nervous and excited. I had no
prior experience with meditation neither visualization and had was still unsure of how the learning
experience would turn out. My friends had made comments that they had lost their minds after their
meditation experience. With no doubt, this made me skeptical about the program but my intuition
led me to one of the greatest and enlightening paths that I would ever undertake in my life.
The class has taught me that through imagery and visualization, we can enhance our productivity,
combat stress, anxiety, worries as well as all forms of tension. The lessons on EPT (Enhanced
Performance Techniques) were of particular... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this process, I lost consciousness with my body as well as surroundings and was
unconscious about both my location and the time. To say the least, I experienced a state of
complete mind peacefulness. I truly appreciate learning the mind skills that not only gave me
more satisfaction but left me with feelings of utter bliss. The other enlightening experience in
the course was yoga which was also a foreign concept to me before joining the class. Professor
Sophie is indeed knowledgeable in this realm. This quality added with her patience and her
engagement with the students ensured that as beginners, we were comfortable and had fun during
these classes. I also appreciate the high quality Yoga mats that Sophie ordered for us to facilitate
our home exercises. The downward facing dog and the child s pose were two of my most favorite
yoga positions. The positions stretched my back, boosted my blood circulation and generally woke
me up. I till continue with the practice at

A Christian Nation Research Paper
I rather to be in the middle of the road to decide that American nation is a Christian nation, because
neither the US Constitution nor the Declaration of Independence indicate any of Christianity in it,
even when the founding fathers mentioned the word God specifically, they used an extended
metaphor the Creator , which it has broader meaning than the word God. Of course, there were other
religions beside Christianitywhich had been practiced. But, it is an obvious that the foundation of
the American nation established on a Christian foundation. However, there are many Christian
principles that established the Declaration of Independence, which we cannot ignore. First, the
rights of the people who live in this nation have the right to resist, and these rights came from the
Creator or from God as the founding fathers translate by using bible to build the Constitution on.
Furthermore, these rights had to be protected and secured by a powerful government which is
given by the consent of the people. In order, this government is able to rules and protects the...

In my opinion, there are many reasons for Christians to think that way, for example, the September
11th attacks on the World Trade Center by a group of radical Islamic which left over 3000

Christian society. Obviously, the founding fathers when they wrote the Constitution kept in their
mind that this nation is not just Christians, but other and various religions, so the First Amendment
was the freedom of religion. In addition, there are other people who don t believe in any religions

Role Of The Media During The Vietnam War
Tan Oguz Instructor: Arjun Subrahmanyan HIST 386C 11 December 2014 Final Paper Role of
the Media in the Vietnam War Vietnam War is a war that mainly differentiates from any other
war in the history of the modern warfare due to the fact that the first time in history the media
was able to act without restrictions and had the opportunity to film and record the war from the
frontline of the combat zone. Besides the political and military decisions taken at the wartime,
media had a impact on changing destiny of the war. In this essay, in order to show the impact of
the media on the war, I will try to examine some of the key events of the Vietnam War, such as the
Tet Offensive, and My Lai Massacre. Were there any misconceptions presented by the media about
the war? Was media responsible of the US loss in Vietnam? Is the power of media exaggerated at
the time of the war? Throughout the essay, these questions will try to be answered in the contexts
of specific events. Before the insertion of ground troops in Vietnam, much of the concern in the
media had been favoured to the political tactics of reinforcing a non communist (democratic)
government in South Vietnam. After the war changed its direction to heavy ground batlle, a change
in coverage also eventuated that the media were more concerned and interested in military
conjuncture (Wyatt 1995). By becoming more interested in military aspects of the war, the media
became more engaged in actual fight scenes and brutality of the

Qualitative And Mixed Methods
In research, there are mainly three approaches i.e. Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed methods.
The importance of qualitative inquiry established first in Sociology (the work of Chicago school)
and Anthropology (fieldwork of Malinowski and Radcliffe Brown) in 1920s and 1930s. Qualitative
research is primarily exploratory in nature and involves a variety of different approaches. It gives us
understanding of underlying reasons, opinions and motivation. Qualitative researchis a field of
inquiry in which the observer studies a foreign setting other than his own culture, customs and
habits. The existence of qualitative researchwas an issue in 1970s and 1980s. The paradigm war
started for social justice that delegitimizes the assumptions of positivists. Critical and feminist
theories were emerging which throws light upon poor, non whites, marginalized and women. This
paradigm war incapacitates the quantitative researchin education. Qualitative research avoids or
downplays quantitative methods.
Qualitative research has two faces. First, qualitative researchers are assumed to be competent
observers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It emphasizes on the qualities of entities and processes which are not possible to study
experimentally or in terms of numbers. In contrast, quantitative research tries to establish causal
relationship between the variables under study using statistical analysis and work is mainly done
from value free framework. Both qualitative and quantitative researcher deals with individuals.
Qualitative investigators tend to study individual s perspective through detailed interviews and
observation, which quantitative researchers do not consider objective. In quantitative researches,
individual is studied by using numbers, statistical tables and graphs. Qualitative researchers believe
in rich descriptions of the everyday social practices whereas a quantitative researcher thinks rich
descriptions hampers the process of

Essay On Relationship Between Lord Of The Flies And The...
The politician Muhammad Ali Jinnah once said, Think 100 times before you take a decision, but
once that decision is taken, stand by it as one man. In the novels Lord of the Flies, written by
William Golding, and The Odyssey, written by Homer, this message is conveyed throughout.
Furthermore, in Lord of the Flies the main character Ralph finds himself on an unfamiliar island
and later finds other people. The story is characterized by the conflict between human natures; for
example, savagery amongst the children and the hope for rescue. During the course of the book,
Ralph is plagued with difficult decisions. Likewise, The Odysseyis about the journeys of a man
named Odysseus who has to make numerous tough decisions on his voyage back home. In
correlation to the eloquent dialogue of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, when making decisions, one must be
thoughtful before undergoing the task.
First, when making decisions, one must always acknowledge his opponents. One should
especially consider the enemy s strengths and weaknesses. For example, after contemplating the
skills of the Cyclops in the cave, Odysseus drew on all [his] wits, and ran through tactics... until a
trick came and it pleased [him] well (Fitzgerald 381). Odysseus realizes that the Cyclops would
defeat him in any physical confrontation due to his well developed brute strength; as a result, he
plans to trick him because he knows that he is intellectually superior to the Cyclops. Through his

severely than he does to Ariel. If thou neglect st or dost unwillingly what I command, I ll rack

mental manipulation like Ariel is given. To add, Ariel and Prospero s relationship is in Prospero
s favour; as their relationship contains more love than hate which benefits him. Prospero
continuously harasses Ariel by giving her hope that she will be released shortly while he

Difference Between Healthcare And The Military Draft
My vision for America is to have a country that fulfills its title as the land of the free. We need
more freedom for our future and for our safety. This can be done by liberating more contained
liberties and by removing those that imprison our freedom. The two main issues that follow this
are healthcare and the military draft. The first main issue that impedes on our freedom is
healthcare. It is our right and freedom to receive quality healthcare at no cost. Some people cannot
receive the care they need and deserve because they cannot afford the insurance or the cost of the
medical bills. Cancer patients do not receive treatment, hospital patients go into crippling debt
because they cannot afford their hospital bills, and those with serious

Embryo Care Ethics
In addition, there is a general difference between embryos in laboratory and embryos in the womb.
The embryo in the womb has a definite chance of developing into a child unless a deliberate
human act interrupts its growth, an embryo in the laboratory can only develop into a child if there
is a deliberate humanact (Singer and Dawson, 1988). To appear in a logical thinking, if there is a
fire accident in the hospital laboratory and the fireman has to decide whether to save a newborn
baby or embryos in Petri dishes, which one should he save? Technically, everyone would opt to
save the newborn baby over the embryos in the Petri dishes, but this is not meant to say that
embryos do not deserve a protection at all because of the fact that only one living being is saved

It conveys care ethics here in an indirect way. Care ethics is about seeking to sustain a
relationship through contextualization of the care giver s wellbeing and also the care receivers.
The early hint of care ethics were introduced by feminist philosophers, such as Mary
Wollstonecraft and Charlotte Perkins. Care is essential for survival and it concentrates not only
just on human prosperity by human interaction with environment and animals. Moreover, care is
also defined as a species activity that includes everything that we do to maintain, continue, and
repair our world so that we can live in it as well as possible. That world includes our bodies,
ourselves and our environment, all of which we seek to interweave in a complex, life sustaining
web ( Tronto, 1993a, p 142 ). The question that are the scientists actually playing God through these

Taking a Look at Title IX
Title IX was a law signed in to make sure than no one is excluded based on gender. When the law
was signed in, the numbers showed that it helped get women more involved in sports. However,
with more women involved in sports, men are still the favored gender and women are
discriminated against. Women are discriminated against in sports shown by fewer opportunities in
high school and college level sports, unequal treatment of women college athletes, and unfair
opportunities and treatment to women coaches. Title IX was signed in 1972 and states that No
person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied
the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity
receiving Federal financial assistance (Anderson). With the law being signed in, a 560% increase
of participation at the college level and 990% increase at the high school level ( Title IX Myths and
Facts ). This shows that women are interested in getting involved and playing and participating in
sports but the lack of opportunity kept females from getting involved at both levels. Given the
opportunity to tryout for a team or even play recreationally, women jump at the chance. For a
school to meet the requirement for equal opportunity under Title IX it must have Proportionality.
The college must provide athletic opportunities for female students that are substantially
proportionate to their enrollment. Program Expansion. The college

Transcendentalism In Emerson And Thoreau
Why follow societal views? Ralph Waldo Emerson s, Self Reliance , and Henry David Thoreau
s, Where I Lived and What I Lived For , are both texts that influence the idea of transcendentalism
which influences the way people think about society s actions and how self reliance. Emerson s
text goes in depth about relying on oneself instead of the use of inventions that rid of bodily
functions. While Thoreau s text also goes in depth about one s life and how time should be
determined by the individual and not the clock of society. Being away and being different from
society, individualism, are explained by Emerson and Thoreau through their use of description;
however, Thoreau in addition to description uses compare and contrast and problem and solution
all to show that individuality is a part of life that is missing from modern day society. Emerson
and Thoreau s main source of similarity between individuality comes from their use of
description. Emerson and Thoreau use description in multiple places to develop their ideas. Two
particular places where it stands out is in paragraph three when Emerson states, Whoso would be a
man must be a nonconformist , and in paragraph three of Thoreau s text It matters not what the
clocks say or the attitudes and labors of men . The correlation between the quotes and individuality
is that one must not be like the rest to be a man and that one should not live on the same items as
the rest of mankind. The use of description in Emerson s quote

The WTO Secretariat report, along with a policy statement by the Government of Bangladesh,
will serve as a basis for the trade policy review of Bangladesh that will take place on 2 and 4 May
2000 in the Trade Policy Review Body of the WTO. The report also notes that in the face of
severe political difficulties and civil unrest, the government of Bangladesh seems to have lost its
impetus for structural reforms. Moreover, devastating floods, combined with infrastructural
failings such as power shortages, inadequate port facilities and insufficient energy supplies, led to
a sharp drop in export growth from 17.1% in 1997/98 to 2.9% in 1998/99. The report says that
textiles, and particularly clothing, have dominated Bangladesh s exports, with their combined share
growing from 70.4% in 1992 to 83.5% in 1998. These exports have been a principal source of
Bangladesh s economic growth in the 1990s. The exports are destined mostly for the U.S. and
European Union markets, to which Bangladesh has privileged access. The report notes that such
heavy dependence on a limited number of products makes the Bangladesh economy vulnerable to
increased competition from other Asian countries that produce labour intensive garments, as these
countries recover from the recent economic crisis with substantially depreciated currencies.
Moreover, the phasing out of preferential access to these

This summer I attended a summer camp called Rotary Youth Leadership Program. This was a

a lot about how to lead others and I learned about myself. One thing that I learned is that you can
t talk to everyone the same way, I can t talk to an introvert the same way I talk to an extrovert.
Some introverts like to have one on one conversations with the leader and extroverts are usually
loud and are okay with asking questions or for help in front of others. For example, my sister is
an introvert and she is very quiet and shy. If she is in a group and they are asking the members of
the group their opinion, in order for her to talk you would have to call on

Chapter five of Crispin Sartwell’s †Six Names of

Chapter five of Crispin Sartwell s Six Names of Beauty discuss the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi
sabi. Sartwell begins the chapter by describing a harmonica that he started playing at the age of
fourteen. During the recount, which included a detailed description of an old CD, Sartwell
shows an evident appreciation for the aged item and it s imperfection. The damage on its surface
its crackles and skips traces my intense relation to it, and gives it a kind of old time sounding
authenticity. His description of an old blues CD and the evident appreciation for the crackles and
skips , is essentially wabi sabi. But before explaining one of the most important aesthetic principle
in Japanese aesthetics, Sartwell describes the language as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An appreciation of wabi is an affirmation of the world and a certain sort of refusal of its
transformation for declaration. As an aesthetic, it s a a way of seeing imperfection as itself
embodying beauty.
Sabi, meaning loneliness , refers to the solitude as both a state of aloneness in persons and a s a
spareness of objects. It can also be considered as a subjective state that is appropriate to the
experience of wabiL a kind of desolation or meditative depression that can be sweet. Sabi is a
quality of stillness and solitude, a melancholy that is one of the basic human responses to and
sources of beauty,
Wabi sabi is an aesthetic of poverty and loneliness, imperfection and austerity, affirmation and
melancholy. It is the beauty of the withered, weathered, tarnished, scarred, intimate, coarse,
earthly, evanescent, tentative, ephemeral. It is a broken earthenware in contrast to a Ming vase,
a branch of autumn leaves to a dozen roses, a lined and bent old woman in contrast to a model, a
mature love as opposed to an infatuation, a bare wall with peeling paint in contrast to a wall hung
with beautiful paintings. It is also a trap. Wabi sabi is an ever intensifying consciousness of the
need to a lapse of consciousness, an ever broadening elation of the ordinary in which the ordinary
loses its ordinariness. It is a form of beauty that overcomes the differences of beauty and ugliness,
even as it overcomes the differences of ordinary and extraordinary. The

Ralph Waldo Emerson
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest
accomplishment, Ralph Waldo Emerson once said. Ralph was born on May 25, 1803 in
Boston, Massachusetts(poets.org). His father was a clergyman, which is a male religious leader,
just like many other ancestors were (poets.org). When Ralph was about 8 years old, his father
died from stomach cancer, after the birth of his eighth child (shmoop.com). When Ralph was
young, he attended the Boston Latin School (poets.org). After graduating from Boston School,
he began an undergraduate study in Harvard (shmoop.com). He worked part time as a grammar
teacher to earn money (shmoop.com). When Emerson graduated from Harvard, he began to
teach at a girls school (shmoop.com). The school was run by William, one brother of eight
siblings (shmoop.com). His very first publication was a magazine article called Thoughts on the
Religion of the Middle Ages. After working at his brother s school for a certain time, Ralph
decided to go back to study at Harvard s newest building, the School of Divinity (shmoop.com). He
left his teaching job and sailed south during the winter to restore his failing health (shmoop.com).
In 1828, Emerson became engaged to Ellen Louisa Tucker, whom he met when he sailed south

1984 Nazi Regime Essay
1984 and the Nazi Regime George Orwell, in his dystopian novel 1984 written shortly after World
War II, creates an allusion between Nazi Germany s past and Oceania s future in regards to the
attitude and structure of the two societies. The novel is told by an omniscient narrator following
Winston, a man questioning his memory and the morality of Big Brother s government, which is
most effective for this novel. Thus, through Winston s internal dialogue, Orwell alludes to Nazi
Germanys past to predict Oceania s future in order to create a parallel between the structure and
attitudes of the two nations, which communicates his theme (and warns his readers) that certain
trends in government will lead to violation of individual rights, and therefore... Show more content

The society is divided into three classes: the proles (working class, comparable to early treatment
of the Jews), the outer party (educated members given administrative jobs, or Nazi soldiers), and
the inner party (those in power, Hitler and his cohorts). Both the inner and outer party looked
down on the proles and paid them no mind with the idea that the proletariats were inferior.
Additionally, members of the inner and outer parties shared the same characteristics as those in
power of the Nazi regime: tall muscular youths and deep bosomed maidens, blond haired, vital,
sunburnt, carefree (60). In addition to the similarities in structure, Oceania also destroyed all
books created before Big Brother gained power. Therefore, the structure of Oceania is a direct
parallel to Nazi Germany and conveys Orwell s message that an initial breach of individual
liberties will continue until all originality is destroyed. However, Oceania had slight variations
from its predecessor. One example of this is the absence of labor camps orchestrated to contain the
proles. Instead, the proles and the parties intermingled at the

  • 2. Banana Bowl Vs Melting Pot Soup or Salad? Does America have a personality? There are many factors that can affect someone s personality, but America s personality is categorized by the conflicting attitudes of nationalism and individualism. These attitudes affected America s view towards issues of immigration. Depending on which American personality is being used determines whether or not America is been recognized as a Salad Bowl or a Melting Pot as a country. When America is being described as Nationalistic, then the country is a Melting Pot due to the focus on the assimilation of immigrants. Conversely, when America is being described as Individualistic, the nation is a Salad Bowl because of the focus of cultural retention. The debate of whether or not America s personality is best represented by a Melting Pot or a Salad Bowl began after the turn of the century; this debate is clearly depicted in the beliefs and works of Diego Rivera and George Bellows. Firstly, Diego Rivera s Detroit Industry is a quintessential and accurate representation of America s Melting Pot personality. Painted in 1933, this magnificent masterpiece takes up twenty seven panels and can be found at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Additionally, this Mexican artist s work can be seen as frescoes, which he describes as, paintings done rapidly in watercolour on wet plaster on a wall or ceiling, so that the colours penetrate the plaster and become fixed as it dries (Rivera Court 1). His artwork depicts laborers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Similarities And Differences Between Yanomamo And Samoan... Different cultures have different ways of experiencing aspects of their culture. There are many similarities and differences between the Yanomamo and Samoan peoples. Cultural differences and similarities need to be paid attention to. Also, the similarities need to be celebrated. The Samoans and Yanomamo have different and similar subsistence methods, division of labor, occupational specialization, exchange of goods, and the economic link to power. The differences and similarities between the Yanomamo and Samoan peoples are striking and deserve thorough examination. The first aspect of Samoan and Yanomamo life that is different is subsistence methods. The Yanomamo have different forms of subsistence than the Samoans. The Samoans mainly rely on agriculture. According to Peters=Golden, clearing the land for planting is hard work. (Peters Golden 225) The Samoans use cutting tools like axes and knives get rid of trees and bushes and other foliage. The Samoans also use small fires to eliminate everything else. Peters Golden writes that digging sticks are then employed to dislodge rocks and loosen the soil for planting. (Peters Golden 225) Similarly to the Samoans, the Yanomamo also rely on agriculture. However, they also utilize foraging, unlike the Samoans. The Yanomamo also hunt, and, similarly to the Samoans, they fish. (Peters Golden 226, 271) Despite that, Peters Golden says that the bulk of Yanomamo food (more than 80 percent) is grown in their village gardens. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effect of Temperature on Membrane Practical 2.1 The Effect of Temperature on Membranes Objective To investigate the effect of temperature on membrane structure Introduction Beetroot Pigments Beetroots contain Betalains which are the red pigments present in the cell vacuole. Betalains are soluble in water and they contain nitrogen. Betalains extracted from beetroot is commonly used as food dye because it is not known to cause any allergic reactions. Beetroot Picture taken from http://tipdeck/how to cook beet root Structure of Betalain Picture taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Betanin.png Cell Membrane Cell membrane is the barrier that separates the inner environment of the cell from the outer environment. The membrane is selectively permeable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The results increase steadily between 0В°C and 45В°C. There is a steep increase between 45В°C and 65В°C. This is the point when the proteins in the cell membranes are denatured causing gaps to form in the membrane, thus allowing more red pigment from the beetroot to diffuse into the distilled water. An increase in temperature increases the kinetic energy of betalain molecules thus increasing rate of diffusion of the red pigment from the cytoplasm into the distilled water. The denatured proteins and an increase in the fluidity of the phospholipid causes the substance contained in the membrane to leak out. There is a small increase in the spectrophotometer reading between the temperatures 0C 23C. This is because the membrane structure becomes more rigid and less red pigments leak out of the membrane. Validity and Reliability The experiment is repeated twice and an average is obtained. This ensures the consistency of the measurement as the reading is triplicated, thus reducing anomalies. It can be seen that the reading obtained were around the same value. This proves that the results are reliable. The results obtained support the hypothesis at the beginning of the experiment. Apart from that, the experiment is conducted according to the instructions given. This increases the validity of the experiment. Source of Error Although the experiment

What they probably mean is that it was not a moral place. (Burrell, 65) The Romans had innumerable gods that they worshiped which included giving gifts and sacrificing for their gods. Sacrificing animals was common for ancient Roman civilization. The idea of sacrificing came from the people before the Roman Empirewas built. Romans utilized praying to gods to make them successful or likely, not to make them better or nobler therefore, Romans never seemed to mind how many different beings they had to worship. (Burrell, 65) Romans would pray more often to increase the chance they had of their prayers being heard by a god. Romans sacrificed or offered gifts to gods, heroes and the dead to request assistance. There were six categories that they sacrificed for based on motives, fulfillment of a vow, thank offering, offerings made in the expectation of favours, sacrifices made at the instigation of the gods, sacrifices as a result of divination and anniversary dedications. (Adkins) The most common type of sacrifice was the fulfillment of a vow. Through this method, a person is requesting an action from a god a promise of a sacrifice is made. The next method, a thank offering was a result of a favor granted freely. Offerings made in the expectation of favours is a sacrifice would be made to a god and with anticipation of the request being granted, usually the request would be for the health of a given person. • 11. Why We Shouldn T Have Homework Why Students Shouldn t Have Homework I believe, as a student, that homework is just a tool that teachers use to keep us busy. Being a student who has received homework for various years, I have found that homework causes me a lot of stress (Ethos). Homework causes kids to get very stressed out, it causes stress in their families, and studies show that it does not improve test scores. Harris Cooper, a worker at Duke University (Ethos), found out that, doing more than 60 to 90 minute of homework in middle school and more than 2 hours in high school is associated with much lower scores (Logos). This just shows that homework is a useless item that students are forced to do. Firstly, students have to wake up from seven until two o clock everyday,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By not giving out homework, students will work harder in class and have better grades. Teachers have to understand that if students are tired from late nights, they wouldn t be able to work efficiently during the day. In addition, students would be much more excited to come to school because they know they wouldn t have to worry about getting any homework. In 2010, a survey was taken and it showed that about 70% of teen ages 11 to 17 get less than 8 hours of sleep per day due to the amount of homework they have to do (Logos). According to Alfie Kohen, students feel forced to do their homework, therefore they aren t learning as much as they should (Ethos). Students lose interest in the topic and do not benefit from what they re learning. In China, a cry for change by a mother who lost her thirteen year old daughter who committed suicide due to her inability to achieve in math, the mother considers homework is a huge negative factor toward her deceased daughter s tragic ending along with the pressure of society (Pathos). • 12. Religion and Science Need Each Other Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. This famous quote was spoken by a man even more famous for his scientific works in the fields of physics and mathematics. Albert Einstein, famous scientist, is found here stating that without religion science is, essentially, useless. Surely it is impossible for a man so accomplished in the scientific field to seriously consider the possibility of God? Certainly, we live in a time where there has been much condemnation and ridicule of the idea of faith by scientists such as Dawkins and Atkins, but does that mean that these two world views are incompatible? Although I really respect the work of both of those great biologists in my view, faith and science are definitely compatible. It is in no doubt that science is an excellent tool to exploit and explore the universe. It is the ability to work out how things work is undeniable. However, there are seemingly, things which science cannot answer. Namely the question of Why? . Science has made staggering discoveries into how the universe came about and the way in which it formed, even down to the purpose for feelings such as fear. But for all the ground breaking discoveries into how the universe was made, it simply cannot answer why the universe came into existence into first place. A question religion seems to answer. If we are to stay with subject of creation, we find many places in which it seems that science and faith not only seem to be present ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Working For A Major Cola Company We were assigned the ultimate task of finding the phosphoric acid in several rival sodas for this experiment but to get there it required many steps to be taken in advance. As we were a working for a major cola company it was crucial that we were aware of how to use the technology and then more importantly the relationships between all the findings we made through numerous experiments. Our main source of technology was a spectrophotometer so in order to move forward in finding anything out about the colas we had to learn how to use this Spec 20. After looking at the machine and doing research we determined that by using the Spec 20 we would be able to get values of both absorbance and % Transmittance for a solution. The Spec 20 is able to give these values by shining a lightbeam through a solution and measuring the intensity before and after it has passed through the solution.1 After doing research we were able to put the machine to use in order to get first hand experience of how to use the machine and to get an understanding of the relationships between results present by the spectrophotometer. Food coloring was the subject of our first tests with the Spec 20 and our group choose the colors red and blue. Along with the food coloring we would also be running Potassium Permanganatethrough the machine. By sending light beams of different wavelengths through the solutions we were able to find the absorbance of each solution shown in Table 1 as well as the relationship ... Although everyone in America has the right to own a firearm, you must have a concealed carry permit in order to bring a hidden handgun into a public area. Through people carrying concealed handguns we can reduce violent crimes. Each state gets to determine if they will allow concealed weapons. If the state does permit concealed carry then people have to go through a long process before they can receive their concealed weapons permit. Calling 911 can get help on their way quickly. However even a few minutes can be the difference between life and death. It takes a few minutes for police to arrive at a crime but if someone already there has a concealed handgun they could end the violence much faster. Quick responses not only limit the number of casualties, but reduce the attention these killers garner from committing their crimes. We can t get rid of gun free zones soon enough (Lott). Some worry that by giving out these permits it makes it legal for bad people to bring handguns into public places where they could harm numerous others. That just doesn t make sense. If a person plans to break the law by harming others then why would they work so hard to obtain a permit so they can legally have the gun with them. One of the most common reasons people give for wanting to get rid of guns is public shootings, particularly school shootings (Quinn). One of the technologies used is a regenerative braking, which recaptures energy that is lost during coasting or braking. The use of the forward wheels is what turns the motor which generates electricity and assist to slow the vehicle. There is also a normal hydraulic braking system that stops the vehicle when the regenerative system isn t sufficient. Role Of The Media During The Vietnam War Tan Oguz Instructor: Arjun Subrahmanyan HIST 386C 11 December 2014 Final Paper Role of the Media in the Vietnam War Vietnam War is a war that mainly differentiates from any other war in the history of the modern warfare due to the fact that the first time in history the media was able to act without restrictions and had the opportunity to film and record the war from the frontline of the combat zone. Besides the political and military decisions taken at the wartime, media had a impact on changing destiny of the war. In this essay, in order to show the impact of the media on the war, I will try to examine some of the key events of the Vietnam War, such as the Tet Offensive, and My Lai Massacre. Were there any misconceptions presented by the media about the war? Was media responsible of the US loss in Vietnam? Is the power of media exaggerated at the time of the war? Throughout the essay, these questions will try to be answered in the contexts of specific events. Before the insertion of ground troops in Vietnam, much of the concern in the media had been favoured to the political tactics of reinforcing a non communist (democratic) government in South Vietnam. After the war changed its direction to heavy ground batlle, a change in coverage also eventuated that the media were more concerned and interested in military conjuncture (Wyatt 1995). The politician Muhammad Ali Jinnah once said, Think 100 times before you take a decision, but once that decision is taken, stand by it as one man. In the novels Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, and The Odyssey, written by Homer, this message is conveyed throughout. Furthermore, in Lord of the Flies the main character Ralph finds himself on an unfamiliar island and later finds other people. The story is characterized by the conflict between human natures; for example, savagery amongst the children and the hope for rescue. During the course of the book, Ralph is plagued with difficult decisions. Likewise, The Odysseyis about the journeys of a man named Odysseus who has to make numerous tough decisions on his voyage back home. In correlation to the eloquent dialogue of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, when making decisions, one must be thoughtful before undergoing the task. First, when making decisions, one must always acknowledge his opponents. One should especially consider the enemy s strengths and weaknesses. For example, after contemplating the skills of the Cyclops in the cave, Odysseus drew on all [his] wits, and ran through tactics... until a trick came and it pleased [him] well (Fitzgerald 381). Instead, the proles and the parties intermingled at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
