Analysis Of Movie And Displaying Modes Of Captions
While viewing Movies
When it comes to while viewing movies, I will analyze and stress such two issues to be implemented:
introduction to the movie and displaying modes of captions. My statements and reviews are as
follows:
Introduction to the movie. Apart from pre teaching a list of new words and phrases in a film, EFL
teachers should give their students a small introduction to the movie just before watching in class.
Some offered this proposal like Bueno (2009), He (Altman, 1989) cautioned that instructors must
provide background information when film genres do not include explicit information regarding the
systems of culture and thus the nonnative viewer lacks the cultural context needed to interpret a scene
(p. 320). EFL teachers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise, EFL teachers can create some class tasks to inform their students of what the movie is
about before watching. Knowing the meaning and importance of the movie, students will pay more
attention to the movie they will watch later. A range of class tasks can be designed such as class
surveys, problem resolution, video title discussion, brainstorming, consideration of a film summary,
information gap exercises, semantic mapping, and dictionary consultation (Stempleski Arcario, 1993,
p. 28 30). According to Wang and Liu (2011), Before the movie watching, brainstorming the students
with words according to their subject, this would diverse their thinking, activate their vocabulary
schema, and compensate each other (p. 44). In another aspect, Bueno (2009) suggested instructors
(should) utilize an overarching question that set the theme for interpreting the films to be viewed and
discussed (p. 323). Concerning the questions, Wang and Liu (2011) explained, The questions may be
about the whole movie or just about the details, leading students to appreciate the movie with
purposes, capture meaningful information and exchange their ideas (p. 44). Judith (2001) in the study
showed how to inform students of post viewing tasks before watching by giving an example, (before
showing) a video that shows the trials of asking someone out on a date, (tell students to)

Control Mechanisms and the Boeing Corporation
Control Mechanisms Paper and The Boeing Corporation

October 4, 2010
Every organization utilizes some form of control to maintain there organization. Boeing is no
exception. Some of the controls that Boeing uses are: six sigma, budgetary controls, Employee
Incentive Program (EIP) and Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Control mechanisms are used by
organizations to assist in regulating procedures. This paper will identify the way these controls are
applied, compare and contrast them, determine the effectiveness of them, examine the positive and
negative reactions to the use of these controls and explain how they impact the four functions of ...

Boeing states the following in a company newsletter released August 27, 2009:
Therefore, costs previously recorded for the first three flight test airplanes will be reclassified from
program inventory to research and development expense, resulting in an estimated non cash charge of
$2.5 billion pre tax, or $2.21 per share, against third quarter results. This charge will have no impact
on the company s cash outlook going forward.
The comparison, effectiveness, and positive versus negative reactions to the use of these control
mechanisms are as follows:
Six Sigma affords the avoidance of a hit and miss approach by breaking into measurable bites an
entire chain of events leading to a problem, and then coming up with a corrective action (Roff, 2005,
p. 1). According to Bateman and Snell (2009, p. 582), the acceptable failure rate is 99.99966 percent
level of accuracy. Although Six Sigma is a powerful control mechanism, it takes about 2 3 years from
the time of implementation until its development is fully realized. It is a method that is most useful to
a company when it is tailored specifically to a company s processes. Feedback affords the necessary
communication between varying units and departments but

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Verse 12
What is the appropriate understanding of verse 12? Is the metaphor saying a destruction but a small
part of it will be rescued to indicate there is still hope for just the remaining? The commentary helps
me to understand it clearly. It says that it signifies a new oracle whose image offer a macabre sense of
hope (p.294). It means rescue may be part of God s intension but this rescue provides little confidence
to those who pause to hear what is genuinely saying. It means the remnant of Samaria will only
remain. Here Amos does not say who is like the lion and the commentary has no further comment. I
believe the lion is probably refers to God as in verse 3:8. The image used here is very powerful to
speak of the total destruction of Samaria by enemy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How verse 4:13 relates to 4:12? The commentary helps me to confirm my speculation that the phrase
does not connote a pleasant encounter and it means the end is near (p.304). My understanding will
then be Yahweh s patience has ended and he has no further hope of bringing the people back to the
covenant relationship. The commentary allows me to know that verse 13 is a doxology with themes to
show Yahweh has the power to create and has power to destroy it. It points out this doxology
coincides with the imagery of the destruction of Samara in 9:1 with the shaking/shattering of the
sanctuary threshold, a judgment that results in the death of the people of the northern kingdom (p.
307). It helps me to see to understand this means no one can stand in front of Yahweh to survive his

Toyota s Case Analysis Of The Toyota Motor Company
Toyota Motor Corporation is an international car manufacturer that is based out of Toyota, Japan.
Toyota started vehicle production in 1933 with the company being a division of Toyoda Automatic
Loom Works devoted to the production of automobiles under the direction of the founder s son,
Kiichiro Toyoda. Throughout the early years of Toyota, they were well known for making highly
desirable vehicles that were efficient and reliable. However, in recent years Toyota has been plagued
with recalls for various reasons. Many of these recalls are safety related issues that have tainted to
company s sterling reputation. For instance, in January 2010, Toyota suspended sales of eight recalled
vehicle models to fix accelerator pedals with mechanical problems that could cause them to become
stuck. In December 2012, Toyota announced an agreement worth more than $1 billion to settle a
lawsuit involving unintended acceleration in some of its vehicles (Wikipedia, 2017). Business experts
believed that it was not necessarily the recall that damaged Toyota s reputation, but rather the way that
the recalls were handled. Many individuals believe that Toyota executives were insincere in their
apologies, and that they did very poorly at explaining the recalls and what the course of correction was
for the problems (Kaufman, 2010). Toyota s CEO, Akio Toyoda, stated in an inter interview that the
company was growing to quickly and was putting growth related goals above quality concerns

Male Dominance In The Catbird Seat
Throughout history, it is of no surprise that men dominate in a majority of environments. Though
women made a movement to gain social and political rights during the nineteenth century, it was not
entirely successful. Women have begun to gain a larger percentage of the workforce yet men continue
to uphold dominance. In the short story The Catbird Seat , James Thurber write about how men have a
known superiority over women in the workplace by describing the relationship between Mr. Fitweiler
and Mrs. Barrows. The first time during the short story that Mr. Fitweiler has shown superiority over
Mrs. Barrows is at a party when the two originally meet. Mrs. Barrows took Mr. Fitweiler away from
the numerous men he was in conversation with. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fitweiler s superiority is shown over Mrs. Barrows is when he requests very little information from
Mr. Martin about the accusations against himself. Mrs. Barrows stormed into Mr. Fitweiler s office the
morning after Mr. Martin arrived at Mrs. Barrows home. Mrs. Barrows warned Mr. Fitweiler of the
things Mr. Martin had threatened the night before, but it was of no avail because Mr. Fitweiler had to
protect himself, not Mrs. Barrows. Mr. Fitweiler was incredibly worried that the affair would become
known; he had to do whatever possible to keep this from being revealed. The head of the filing
department, neat, quiet, attentive, stood in front of the old man s desk. Mr. Fitweiler was pale and
nervous. (5). This quote shows how concerned Mr. Fitweiler truly was about anyone discovering his
relationship with Mrs. Barrows. When Mr. Fitweiler brings Mr. Martin in his office to inform him on
what Mrs. Barrows had just accused him of, Mr. Fitweiler asks for very little information and a
minuscule amount of details to support his alibi. Mr. Martin did not lie when telling of his night, he
simply left of the most crucial events. Mr. Martin left out events that would have aided in Mrs.
Barrows being rescued of being made a complete fool of. Mr. Fitweiler is also much more
compassionate when talking with Mr. Martin as compared to Mrs. Barrows. When Mrs. Barrows
walked into her boss office, immediately the room was filled with shouting that could be

Hydrologic Cycle Essay
HYDROLOGIC CYCLE The hydrologic cycle is a constant movement of water above, on, and below
the earth s surface. It is a cycle that replenishes ground water supplies. It begins as water vaporizes
into the atmosphere from vegetation, soil, lakes, rivers, snowfields and oceans a process called
evapotranspiration. As the water vapor rises it condenses to form clouds that return water to the land
through precipitation: rain, snow, or hail. Precipitation falls on the earth and either percolates into the
soil or flows across the ground. Usually it does both. When precipitation percolates into the soil it is
called infiltration when it flows across the ground it is called surface run off. The amount of
precipitation that infiltrates, versus the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The voids are spaces between grains of sand, or cracks in dense rock. All water beneath the land
surface occurs within such void space sand is referred to as underground or subsurface water.
Subsurface water occurs in two different zones. One zone, located immediately beneath the land
surface in most areas, contains both water and air in the voids. This zone is referred to as the
unsaturated zone. Other names for the unsaturated zone are zone of aeration and vadose zone. The
unsaturated zone is almost always underlain by a second zone in which all voids are full of water. This
zone is defined as the saturated zone. Water in the saturated zone is referred to as ground water and is
the only subsurface water available to supply wells and springs. Water table is often misused as a
synonym for ground water. However, the water table is actually the boundary between the unsaturated
and saturated zones. It represents the upper surface of the ground water. Technically speaking, it is the
level at which the hydraulic pressure is equal to atmospheric pressure. The water level found in
unused wells is often the same level as the water table. AQUIFERS An aquifer is a saturated geologic
formation that will yield a usable quantity of water to a well or spring. Ground water occurs in
aquifers under two conditions: confined and unconfined. A confined aquifer is overlain by a confining
bed, such as an impermeable layer of clay

Essay on Life Under the Taliban
Life Under the Taliban
Afghanistan is one of the poorest and most troubled countries in the world. The land that occupies
Afghanistan has a long history of domination by foreign conquerors and strife among internally
warring factions. At the gateway between Asia and Europe, this land was conquered by Darius I of
Babylonia circa 500 B.C., and Alexander the Great of Macedonia in 329 B.C., among others. In recent
years, war and lawlessness had destroyed much of the country; millions of people went into exile and
brought its economy to a standstill. This paper looks to explore the recent history of Afghanistan, how
the Taliban came to power, and the impact their Islamic laws had on the Afghanistan society including
their treatment of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tribes living in these two regions have ethnic affinities with the Afghan tribes, and India and its
Afghan allies were supporting secessionist movement in these two provinces.
What followed was a ten year long guerilla war. The United States gave billions of dollars, through a
secret CIA operation, to revolutionary militia forces called the mujahideen (soldiers of God) .
Thousands of people including more than 50,000 Russians were killed . With U.S. weapons and
Pakistan?s support, the Afghan mujahideen forced the Soviet Union to leave Afghanistan in 1989.
Unfortunately, when the Soviet Union pulled out, different factions of the mujahideen entered into a
civil war.
Afghanistan Civil War
The Afghan civil war was been one of the deadliest and most persistent conflicts of the second half of
the twentieth century. Nearly 2 million Afghans have been killed and 600,000 to 2 million wounded .
More then 6 million Afghans fled to Pakistan and Iran, producing the world?s largest single refugee
population since 1981, while at least 2 million more Afghans were internally displaced . Thus, more
than 50 percent of Afghanistan?s indigenous population (estimated at 15 to 17 million persona at the
wars beginning now estimated to be as many as 22 million) became casualties killed, wounded or
made homeless by the war .
In 1996 the Taliban emerged as the controlling force of the civil war. The

Symbolism in Tim Burton´s Films Essay
In the words of Tim Burton, One person s craziness is another person s reality. This is the truth for the
magical movies he has put together. Burton grew up different from others; he was an outcast from the
people around him. Enjoying B movies, he would watch them a great deal. Out of all the characters,
Burton preferred the monsters or strange creatures. Some inspirations to him are Edgar Allen Poe,
Roald Dahl, and Vincent Price. He frowns upon conformity, for he prefers individuality. What is
normal to Burton could be completely wild to another. In Tim Burton s distinctive films, he uses
symbolism and the comparison of individuality and conformity to emphasize the purity of an outsider.
To start, symbolism was used in Edward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A key part of the symbolism in the movie is changing colors. For instance, Ilosovic Stayne, the red
queen s partner, has an eye patch that goes back and forth from black and red. This shows how he was
deceiving character that faked liking the red queen for his own benefit. Additionally, the mad hatter s
eye color changes with his mood. When he is calm, they are green, but when he gets angry, they turn
red. To conclude, Tim Burton uses symbolism to give a deeper lesson and to clear up the state of a
character. Moreover, Burton uses satire to emphasize Edward s innocence; all characters represented a
different flaw in society. For example, all of the housewives were nosy. One of them was particularly
religious and judgmental. Burton portrays Joyce as a flirtatious liar. Kim s boyfriend, on the other
hand, was controlling and impulsive. In contrast, Edward had none of these faults. The town that they
live in is made out to look perfect and neat, while Edward s home is scary and intimidating. In reality,
the castle is more of a humane place than the town. The real monsters are the regular people. To sum
up, Burton gives a negative connotation towards society, verse praise towards uniqueness using satire.
Similarly, Alice in Wonderland also uses satire throughout the movie. First and foremost, everyone
who lives in the red queens castle, that s not an animal, faked having large features. Some had big
ears, a big nose, or a big belly. This showed that

Masculinity In Shakespeare s Time
Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning small
battles with honor (Mailer, n.d). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes masculinity in a
way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our society today.
Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and ability to discover
and examine all the possible meanings of masculinity by different scholars, academics, peers and even
through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we choose to identify ourselves with.
William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive author who is rich in his writing.
Although Shakespeare s writing is not solely a dialogue on women s studies, it does nonetheless share
and consists of issues in women s studies and gender ideology. Not only does Shakespeare reflect, he
occasionally supports the English Renaissance stereotypes of men and women and the ... Show more

However, when reflecting upon the character Orsino, one may begin to question this. A significant
attribute that exemplified masculinity was the Renaissance Beard. Sexual differences and appearances
in the early modern period have differed significantly in society s matters of these distinctions today.
In the Renaissance period, facial hair often granted masculinity as the beard made the man (Fisher,
2009). The array of male features and prosthetic body parts such as the genitals can definitely
distinguish the differences between male and female, however, in the Renaissance period, something
as simple as the growth of a beard will signify manhood. Therefore, it is obvious that masculinity can
be presented through a combination of

How Did The Steam Engine Help Start The Industrial...
Do you know what machine helped start the Industrial Revolution, do you know the machine that
benefited the economy, do you know the machine that improved transportation and technology. That
machine is the steam engine. The steam engine helped revolutionize the world with its technology and
fast transportation, it was even faster than horses. It also was one of the leading causes into starting the
Industrial Revolution. The steam engine helped in daily lives and was mandatory in the workplace it
also was one of the reasons for the start of the Industrial Revolution.
One of first steam engines was called The Miner s Friend because it worked in the mines.
The reason its job was helping getting coal and iron that was hard to get and made it so coal and iron
was not wasted. The machine was invented and patented by an English engineer he was called
Thomas Savery, The Miner s friend was based on Denis Papin s principles. The Miner s Friend was a
waterpump and helped get water out of mines (Engelbert, 1999) (Bruno, 1998).
While the Miner s Friend was the first steam engine it was not very good, however soon another steam
engine was invented by another man named Thomas Newcomen. His Steam engine was also used in

College Pressures Zinsser Summary
The article, College Pressures , written by William Zinsser, explores the pressures associated with
college and its reflection on student work and attitude. In 1979, the time this work was published,
Zinsser was the head of a residential college at Yale University (Zinsser, 437). Emerged in campus
life, Zinsser examines the student behavior affiliated with the four sources of pressure he identifies as
the symptoms of attending college. After reviewing Zinsser s article, I can relate certain aspects of
economic and parental pressures, as well as peer and self induced pressures, in my lifestyle as a
student attending Columbus State Community College. Zinsser separates college student pressures
into four individual categories: economic pressure, parental pressure, peer pressure, and self induced
pressure. He believes that students are too caught up on what will look good on their resume and
should, instead, be exploring the opportunities of college and, as he states, [allow] the hand of God or
chance to nudge them down some unforeseen trail (442). Although Zinsser believed these sources of
pressure to be separate, he noticed that some worked hand in hand. For instance, he noted that if the
parents of the students were experiencing financial stress putting them through college, they are more
likely to put pressure on their children. They, for example, would want their son or daughter to chose a
major in which they will be financially set for the rest of their lives. Due to

Paul Couturier, the CEO of Health Development Corporation (HDC), was negotiating the sale of his

Boston area, had retained a local investment firm, Kaufman Co., to solicit bids. They received several
bids from national or regional health club companies seeking to establish themselves in the Boston
area. The bids were lower than expected, largely because of the way the bidding companies

In 1999, HDC had the option to purchase the Lexington Club real estate for $6.5 million The
Company had not purchased real estate in the past for two reasons. First, as a small privately held
company, HDC preferred to use its limited capital to add, expand, or enhance clubs. Second, leasing
property allowed the company to reduce its risk by keeping real estate costs proportional to revenue.
In the case of the Lexington property, however, HDC management determined that the lease payments
were substantially greater than the costs of owning the real estate. After attempting unsuccessfully to
renegotiate the lease payments downward, HDC decided to purchase the Lexington Club property.
The Company financed the Lexington Club purchase with $750,000 of excess cash and a mortgage for
$5,750,000 at an interest rate of 8.75%. The Offers to Purchase Kaufman Company solicited bids for
HDC in February 2000. In exchange for signing a confidentiality agreement, potential bidders
received an information memorandum that provided a detailed description of the Company, its
operations, and its financial results. Potential bidders were also given the opportunity to visit the
health clubs and to interview management. Five potential buyers submitted bids. HDC, with the
advice of Kaufman Co., decided to focus on the bid by Town Sports International (TSI). TSI had a
large share of the New York health club market, with 67 clubs, but only five clubs in the Boston
market. TSI

Congenital Heart Defect
It is very important to note that congenital heart defects are among the most common birth defects
affecting more than 40,000 children a year. The defects can be very complex and life threatening or
relatively benign. Treatment is different for every cardiac defect and usually involves medicines,
surgeries, heart transplants, and mechanical ventilation. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is
characterized by hypoplasia of the left ventricle, aortic stenosis, hypoplasia of the ascending aorta, and
coarctation (narrowing) of the aorta. In normal conditions the left side of the heart receives
oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it into the systemic circulation. In patients with HLHS,

TOF involves four anatomical abnormalities of the heart: a large VSD, a stenotic pulmonary artery, an
overriding aorta, and right ventricular hypertrophy. The degree of cyanosis of TOF depends largely on
the size of the right to left shunt. Patients with left to right shunting may have little to no cyanosis and
are referred to as pink tetralogy. Patients with TOF may experience episodes of extreme cyanosis
called tet spells often during times of stress such as crying, dehydration, and fever. If left untreated
these hypercyanotic episodes can be fatal. Deletion of the gene on Chromosome 22, (22q11) is often
the cause of TOF among other congenital heart defects. Another gene associated with this anomaly is
the jagged1 gene, which can be diagnosed through the images of an echocardiogram. On an anterior
posterior chest x ray, the heart is shaped boot like. 3
Treatment after birth includes administering prostaglandin E to maintain the ductal patency and
pulmonary perfusion. In some cases Blalock Taussig shunt (BT shunt) can be performed to provide
adequate pulmonary blood flow to the lung. Surgeries are done over time from neonates to 4 6 months
of age. Mortality depends on the severity of TOF. It carries a 35% mortality rate if left untreated in the
first year of life and 50% mortality rate in the first three years of life. Genetic testing to look for these
mutations can be a viable option

Effects of exercise versus a sedentary lifestyle on lung function for those who are asymptomatic
smokers
Since discovering the harmful effects of cigarette smoking to ones health, the United States has
worked hard to reduce the prevalence of illness and death attributable to this behavior. Based on recent
Gallup polls, the percent of people claiming to have smoked a cigarette within the past week has been
steadily declining since 1945 and the number of pack a day smokers is at the lowest point its ever been
(http://www.gallup.com/poll/1717/tobacco smoking.aspx).
According to the Center for Disease Control
(http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/campaign/tips/diseases/copd.html), cigarette smoking is responsible for
80% of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cases. Smoking can be attributed to this class
of diseases because it causes lung damage and inflammation that can lead to COPD. Airways become
clogged as excess mucus accumulates to move tar out of the body, they become thick and enflamed,
and air sacs may lose their elasticity and become destroyed, all affecting gas diffusion capacity. A
nagging cough, shortness of breath, and due to the reduced oxygen levels in the blood, discoloration of
lips and fingernails are a few of the potential symptoms of this class of diseases.

Analysis Of One Love Under God By H. Norman Wright
Week One Reflection As things in this world seem to go by faster and faster each year; we seldom
take the time to remember why we fell in love with our significant other in the first place. While
reading One Love Under God , by H. Norman Wright, it made me think back to the beginning of my
relationship with my husband. Being a divorced mom of a beautiful daughter I wanted someone that
could love me the way I desired to be loved and cared for. I had never expected to get a divorce from
my first husband, but one to many times of adultery was enough in my books. We had tried and tried
to make things work, but he could not change his ways. I am committed to make this marriage work
not only for our children, but for each other. Wright says, Marriage keeping involves preserving,
caring for, and honoring marriage. This is a commitment to do whatever it takes, not just for our own
marriage, but for others, too (Wright, 2005, p. 15). I desire to be a keeper of marriage, not only mine,
but to also help others who are struggling to find that love they once had. I feel that more people
should help support others in any way they can, including relationships. Marriage is tough and having

Sandburg And Blake
In the poem, London by William Blake and Chicago by Carl Sandburg, the speakers in the poem made
use of several figurative languages to compliment the style of the poem and also the theme present in
both poems. Vampirism is a big theme that presents itself in both poems and both speakers made sure
to exploit this general theme. To begin with, the poem Chicago , addresses the outlook of Chicago
during the period of its development. The speaker of the poem focuses on the things that Chicago is
consisted of and in several ways, debunked the misconceptions about Chicago. This was achieved
through humor and a bit of sarcasm. Chicago is seen to be laughing...as an ignorant fighter...who has
never lost a battle. The speaker even further personifies Chicago as a wicked, crooked and brutal
person that cares not too much about the people under its care. This ties well into the governmental
system of Chicago where the gunman [kills and goes] free to kill again. In comparison to London by
William Blake, the same theme is repeated in lines 10 to lines 12 where the Palace walls were stained

City of the Big Shoulders in Chicago, introduces a new outlook to some parts of the poem. This poem
line could interpret the people of Chicago as people with literally big shoulders due to the kind of
labor they do. It could also suggest that the people or the city, as it was depicted in the poem, possess a
warm heart, great humor and a shoulder for others to lean on. In lines 6 to 9 where Chicago was being
verbally attacked, none of the claims were denied but in retaliation, the city was depicted as the
strongest, the most cunning and hardest working of all other states. The humor comes later on when
the city was laughing in a manner that disregards the ignorance of the person in lines 6 to 9. Also in
London, a little bit of exaggeration was expended in line 11 to

Imperatively, President Woodrow Wilson envisioned a world parliament which was exerted at the
Paris Peace Conference. However, the non existent relationship between United States and the League
of Nations was a vital decision in which lead to the failure of the League of Nations and the uprising
of another world war. The key element of the creation of the League of Nations was that nations
should summon and solve major issues through discussion rather than war. Its purpose was to
strengthen international relations and improve cooperation among foreign powers, ultimately creating
an atmosphere fostering world peace. Conversely, U.S Congress hesitated to join threatened by the

The Chosen Character Analysis
The Characteristics of a Coach
Everyone in society should be a role model, not only for their own self respect, but for respect from
others. ~ Barry Bonds. In this world bad situations occur frequently and it takes a good strong person
to handle them in a mature way. Dealing with them this way not only shows that the person has self
control, but also makes them a good role model for people to look up to. In the book The Chosen,
Chaim Potok uses Mr. Galanter to express his opinions of a good role model. Acting as a baseball
coach and gym teacher, young boys look to him for guidance and motivation every day. Having this
kind of position causes stress at times, and requires him to stay calm and level headed. Throughout

Mr. Galanter, the coach in the book The Chosen by Chaim Potok, did so very well. A role model and

right response in some situations. Even so, he demonstrated caring and sympathy at times when boys
needed it the most. Discipline, motivation and caring: all traits of Mr. Galanter, an excellent role

Slavery and It s Effects on the U.S. Today
There has always been hostility between different groups of people, in the 17th 19th centuries this was
no different. This was the time of slavery in the New World. During this time people from Africa were
enslaved and brought to the colonies of North America. They were then forced to work under harsh
conditions. Although this is a painful memory in our country s past, without it we wouldn t be the
country we are today.
America is an advanced country with a great government, however during our history there have
always been down sides. Like the enslavement and trade of African to the Americas during the 17th
19th centuries. This trade between Africa and the New World colonies was called middle passage.

(www.archives.gov) However, the proclamation was limited; it only included states that had already
separated from the Union. The biggest problem is that the only way it would work is if the Union won
the Civil War.(www.archives.gov) However, with all of of its faults the proclamation did change the
outlook of this civil war. Because of the Emancipation Proclamation the Union started to accept more
blacks troops, and because of this the slaves that had become free were now freeing slaves themselves.
Many others helped to free the African Americans from their terrible lives as slaves as well. They are
the reason that minorities have freedom in this country. Some of these people that fought for black
rights came after the 1900 s, they include Malcolm X, Martin Luther King jr, Rosa Parks and others.
They all fought for black rights after slavery was abolished, and made a stand to insure that blacks
were treated fairly. Rosa Parks made her stand on a bus. She refused to give up her seat on a bus to a
white passenger, because she thought that just because she is black doesn t mean she should be any
less eligible for a seat on a bus. This one act of disobedience sparked one of the largest movements
against racial discrimination, the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Malcolm X was another big factor in the
fight for black rights . He gave many empowering speeches about the government, society, and of
course racism. His speeches

Nuclear Power in Australia’s Energy Future Essays
Since its discovery in the late 19th century, nuclear energy has been used in a diversity of areas such
as atomic bombs, medicine, reducing pollution and food irradiation (Gupta, 2012). However, one of
the biggest outcomes since this discovery is nuclear energy generation. This subject is largely
controversial as it has many pros and cons. It is considered to be a more eco friendly alternative source
of electricity, as it emits less carbon emissions than coal fired power stations, for example. Yet there
still an environmental risk provided by the radio active waste and its inability to be disposed of for
100,000 years (Phillips, 2012). Today in Australia there are no active nuclear power plants but that is
predicted to change in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Professor Per Peterson from the Department of Nuclear Engineering says, It s difficult for me to see
how we can transition away from fossil fuels and not use significant amounts of nuclear energy
(Phillips, 2012). Many argue that renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind should be
implemented instead of nuclear energy as they too produce no air pollution. However, modern society
requires a reliable base load of electricity which renewables are not equipped to provide. In Australia
there are limited sources that could potentially supply a suitable base load . They include coal and gas
(which produce CO2 emissions) geothermal, hydro (which is limited due to the lack of water),
developing technology and nuclear energy (Krieg, 2014). Renewable sources of energy also prove to
be a problem as they are too fickle to provide base load power to a nation, as they depend on
intermittent things such as weather and seasons, whereas nuclear power is available constantly whilst
being a cleaner source of power.
An example of the environmental success nuclear energy has provided is France in the 1970s and
1980s. The country switched from using fossil fuels and instead used nuclear energy to supply 78% of
its electricity (see figure 3). This in turn lowered the country s greenhouse emissions by approximately
2% each year since. No accidents have ever occurred at any of France s power plants (Biello, 2013).

A Comparison Of Paul Cézanne And The Large Bathers
Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre (Joy of Life) and Picasso s Les Demoiselles d Avignon, the two different
paintings that are simultaneously seen as inspired by and breaking free of Paul
Cézanne s, The Large Bathers. Let s see more in details why it can be.
The Large Bathers
The Large Bathers is a painting by the French painter Paul Cézanne. It is made in oil on canvas. It
measures 210.5 cm tall and 250.8 cm long. It was painted in 1906. It is located at the
Museum of Art in Philadelphia, United States. It is the largest fabric ever painted by Cézanne, who
worked for seven years at the workshop he had at Lauves, and is the most crafted of the three
conclusive judgments of the bather s theme, repeatedly treated by the painter, from 1870 until his ...

Matisse went a step further developing a style of greater sensitivity and sincerity. The big canvas that
he called The Joy of Life is actually the announcement of this style. Although the painting is a
synthesis of numerous sketches made by the painter a year earlier in Collioure, almost the work is not
a vision of a holiday scene, but something conceived: a mythical early paradise where unobtrusive
characters in dance cannons love and generality with nature.
Vibration colors are applied with no trace of distraction, and brush motions are in search for a pure
sensuality of color. The only movement is long running curves of trees that continue and repeat in the
contours of the body. These harmonized rhythms, combined with the relaxed

Les Demoiselles d Avignon
Les Demoiselles d Avignon is a large oil painting from 1907 by Spanish painter Pablo
Picasso (1881 1973). The work portrays five naked prostitutes from a brothel in Avinyó,
Barcelona. It is considered the first picture of Cubism.
Picasso painted this painting conceptually in the spirit of the earlier artistic aspirations of art history,
depicting the traditional theme of the female act. Even so, the position of the left figure reminds

Julian’s Racist Mother in O’Connor’s Everything That...
Julian s Racist Mother in O Connor s Everything That Rises Must Converge
She lifted the hat one more time and set it down slowly on her head. Two wings of gray hair protruded
on either side of her florid face, but her eyes, sky blue, were as innocent as they must have been when
she was ten. Where it not that she was a widow who had struggled fiercely to feed and clothe and put
him through school and who was supporting him still, until he got on his feet, she might have been a
little girl that he had to take to town.
This passage was taken from Everything That Rises Must Converge and describes Julian s mother,
who remains nameless in the story. It particularly describes her face and hair, which make her sound,
ironically, like an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She helps her son financially, and therefore does not try to be more accepting, even though he asks her
to be. She tries to give the black child a penny, and thus thinks that she is indeed acting more
accommodating to race, but succeeds only in drawing attention to her antiquated notions of gentility.
Thus the angelic description of her physical features is very ironic. Heavenly, and Christian images are
seen throughout this short story, such as Julian being described as St. Sebastian, and Julian s mother
reminding him that Julian s grandmother was a Godhigh. Perhaps the images foreshadow the
upcoming death of Julian s mother, and her belief that she absolutely deserves to go to heaven when
she dies, though she does not know she will die by the end of the story. Julian s mother believes she
has done everything right in her life, and though she is a very earnest and selfless woman, she is
hardly an angel.
The passage also alludes to Julian s mother being a child, or a ten year old, which may have been the
age when she knew Caroline, her darky nurse. At the end of the story, she calls out for Caroline,
probably because Caroline was the one who would have helped her when she was a child and in
trouble, but it is poignant that she is described as being young, and in the last seconds of her life, she
reverts back to the childhood that she still resembles, even after all her years and troubles. The passage
also says that if

Should Fund Programs Be Funded The Search For Extra...
Understanding the heavens has been a continual mystery to humans. Throughout human history,
individuals have been curious about life other than on planet Earth. The question that remains is if
humanity is alone in the universe. This question is very important because after all, the universe is still
expanding. In addition to the expansion of the universe, astronomers have discovered at least six
potential habitable worlds in our own solar system (CITE). It is natural to wonder if other worlds
might also have intelligent life and civilizations. Many claims have been made that we have already
been visited by aliens in UFOs, however, while plenty of evidence has been offered for scientific
examination so far none of it has been enough to convince us that the claims of visitations are real
(Bennett, 260). However, this doesn t mean that there is no intelligent life beyond our home planet.
Due to this, taxpayers should fund programs to begin the search for extra terrestrial life in the
universe. The reason why there should be programs that fund the search for extra terrestrial life in the
universe is because extra terrestrial life can help enhance our understanding of the universe.
Where ever extra terrestrial beings are located in space they can enhance our understanding of the
universe. This is because we are the newcomers in the universe and extra terrestrial beings can
potentially be around since the time our universe was created, which was 14 billion years ago
(Bennett,1 ).

Free Choice Of The Will By David Foster Wallace
Living a happy life is the goal that all humans strive for. All our actions point us to a direction that we
believe will make us happy. However, we must make the right decisions to live a truly happy life. Our
decisions we make are based on the desires we have. We can desire
Human beings have free will to make chooses in life. Life is filled with decisions, that we make every
day rather we are aware of them or not. Decisions are much harder than just choosing from right and
wrong, because both choices have consequences we desire. We must choose what desires we give
focus to and choose what we worship. Augustine in the book On Free Choice of the Will, writes about
the different types of goods and how are decisions are based on desire of those goods. David Foster
Wallace also focuses on our decisions being based on what we worship in the Kenyon College
Commencement Address . A fulfilling and happy life is only achieved by making the right decisions,
which is achieve by putting priority on the right desires. Augustine in the book On Free Choice of the
Will, talks about two different types of goods. Augustine states that it is clear that some human beings
love eternal things while others love temporal things (Augustine 24). Eternal things are lasting goods
that can be held onto simply by wanting to hold on to them. Temporal goods cannot be held simply by
desire. Examples of eternal goods are things prudence, fortitude, temperance, and justice. These
eternal goods are goods

A Career As An Administrative Assistant

must dress professionally; wearing suits or appropriate business dresses, no visual tattoos, piercings,
hair and make up must be conservative. In a warehouse or factory setting an administrative assistant
may wear jeans and a polo shirt; a new tech company may have a creative and relaxed dress code.

Self Directed, Intrinsically Motivated, Active Learning
Self directed, intrinsically motivated, active learning
Learning styles come in different forms and are all correlated to match learners of certain personalities
to make learning more effective. This is as a result of the need to recognize the needs of learners as
well as those of teachers and at the same time appreciate that the inclusive education environment,
irrespective of its merits, will present barriers for learners and for teachers. The learner can be
described as an individual, a recipient of an educational system that values standards and results.
(Gavin Reid) For a self directed, intrinsically motivated, active learner, the individual takes the
initiative and the responsibility of the learning process. The learner selects, manages and assess their
own learning activities which can be pursued at any time, in any place, through any means at any age.
This type of learner being intrinsic is passion driven and by virtue of his natural behavior in engaging
in any learning process, the only reward they get is the enjoyment they get from pursuing the learning
process but not for any reward that comes from it. They are usually engaged in these processes which
usually requires an application of their brains into thinking using real life and imaginary situations in
discussions or problem solving. They usually exhibit initiative, independence and persistence in
learning ; one who accepts responsibility for his or her own learning and views problems as
challenges, not

Explain Why Barbie Is A Bad Role Model
Barbie is a bad role model for young girls. Research has shown that Barbie would have been measured
at 5 9 and according to one of her stages she would weigh only 110 lbs. Based on these measurements
Barbie,if a real woman, would have a B.M.I of 16.24 and would fit in the criteria for being

  • 2. Analysis Of Movie And Displaying Modes Of Captions While viewing Movies When it comes to while viewing movies, I will analyze and stress such two issues to be implemented: introduction to the movie and displaying modes of captions. My statements and reviews are as follows: Introduction to the movie. Apart from pre teaching a list of new words and phrases in a film, EFL teachers should give their students a small introduction to the movie just before watching in class. Some offered this proposal like Bueno (2009), He (Altman, 1989) cautioned that instructors must provide background information when film genres do not include explicit information regarding the systems of culture and thus the nonnative viewer lacks the cultural context needed to interpret a scene (p. 320). EFL teachers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Otherwise, EFL teachers can create some class tasks to inform their students of what the movie is about before watching. Knowing the meaning and importance of the movie, students will pay more attention to the movie they will watch later. A range of class tasks can be designed such as class surveys, problem resolution, video title discussion, brainstorming, consideration of a film summary, information gap exercises, semantic mapping, and dictionary consultation (Stempleski Arcario, 1993, p. 28 30). According to Wang and Liu (2011), Before the movie watching, brainstorming the students with words according to their subject, this would diverse their thinking, activate their vocabulary schema, and compensate each other (p. 44). In another aspect, Bueno (2009) suggested instructors (should) utilize an overarching question that set the theme for interpreting the films to be viewed and discussed (p. 323). Concerning the questions, Wang and Liu (2011) explained, The questions may be about the whole movie or just about the details, leading students to appreciate the movie with purposes, capture meaningful information and exchange their ideas (p. 44). Judith (2001) in the study showed how to inform students of post viewing tasks before watching by giving an example, (before showing) a video that shows the trials of asking someone out on a date, (tell students to) ... • 3. Control Mechanisms and the Boeing Corporation Control Mechanisms Paper and The Boeing Corporation Annette Bauer, Latresha Fowler Ockletree, and Paula Prasatik MGT/330 Mark Hardee October 4, 2010 Every organization utilizes some form of control to maintain there organization. Boeing is no exception. Some of the controls that Boeing uses are: six sigma, budgetary controls, Employee Incentive Program (EIP) and Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Control mechanisms are used by organizations to assist in regulating procedures. This paper will identify the way these controls are applied, compare and contrast them, determine the effectiveness of them, examine the positive and negative reactions to the use of these controls and explain how they impact the four functions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boeing states the following in a company newsletter released August 27, 2009: Therefore, costs previously recorded for the first three flight test airplanes will be reclassified from program inventory to research and development expense, resulting in an estimated non cash charge of $2.5 billion pre tax, or $2.21 per share, against third quarter results. This charge will have no impact on the company s cash outlook going forward. The comparison, effectiveness, and positive versus negative reactions to the use of these control mechanisms are as follows: Six Sigma affords the avoidance of a hit and miss approach by breaking into measurable bites an entire chain of events leading to a problem, and then coming up with a corrective action (Roff, 2005, p. 1). According to Bateman and Snell (2009, p. 582), the acceptable failure rate is 99.99966 percent level of accuracy. Although Six Sigma is a powerful control mechanism, it takes about 2 3 years from the time of implementation until its development is fully realized. It is a method that is most useful to a company when it is tailored specifically to a company s processes. Feedback affords the necessary communication between varying units and departments but ... • 4. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Verse 12 What is the appropriate understanding of verse 12? Is the metaphor saying a destruction but a small part of it will be rescued to indicate there is still hope for just the remaining? The commentary helps me to understand it clearly. It says that it signifies a new oracle whose image offer a macabre sense of hope (p.294). It means rescue may be part of God s intension but this rescue provides little confidence to those who pause to hear what is genuinely saying. It means the remnant of Samaria will only remain. Here Amos does not say who is like the lion and the commentary has no further comment. I believe the lion is probably refers to God as in verse 3:8. The image used here is very powerful to speak of the total destruction of Samaria by enemy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How verse 4:13 relates to 4:12? The commentary helps me to confirm my speculation that the phrase does not connote a pleasant encounter and it means the end is near (p.304). My understanding will then be Yahweh s patience has ended and he has no further hope of bringing the people back to the covenant relationship. The commentary allows me to know that verse 13 is a doxology with themes to show Yahweh has the power to create and has power to destroy it. It points out this doxology coincides with the imagery of the destruction of Samara in 9:1 with the shaking/shattering of the sanctuary threshold, a judgment that results in the death of the people of the northern kingdom (p. 307). It helps me to see to understand this means no one can stand in front of Yahweh to survive his almighty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Toyota s Case Analysis Of The Toyota Motor Company Toyota Motor Corporation is an international car manufacturer that is based out of Toyota, Japan. Toyota started vehicle production in 1933 with the company being a division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works devoted to the production of automobiles under the direction of the founder s son, Kiichiro Toyoda. Throughout the early years of Toyota, they were well known for making highly desirable vehicles that were efficient and reliable. However, in recent years Toyota has been plagued with recalls for various reasons. Many of these recalls are safety related issues that have tainted to company s sterling reputation. For instance, in January 2010, Toyota suspended sales of eight recalled vehicle models to fix accelerator pedals with mechanical problems that could cause them to become stuck. In December 2012, Toyota announced an agreement worth more than $1 billion to settle a lawsuit involving unintended acceleration in some of its vehicles (Wikipedia, 2017). Business experts believed that it was not necessarily the recall that damaged Toyota s reputation, but rather the way that the recalls were handled. Many individuals believe that Toyota executives were insincere in their apologies, and that they did very poorly at explaining the recalls and what the course of correction was for the problems (Kaufman, 2010). Toyota s CEO, Akio Toyoda, stated in an inter interview that the company was growing to quickly and was putting growth related goals above quality concerns ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Male Dominance In The Catbird Seat Throughout history, it is of no surprise that men dominate in a majority of environments. Though women made a movement to gain social and political rights during the nineteenth century, it was not entirely successful. Women have begun to gain a larger percentage of the workforce yet men continue to uphold dominance. In the short story The Catbird Seat , James Thurber write about how men have a known superiority over women in the workplace by describing the relationship between Mr. Fitweiler and Mrs. Barrows. The first time during the short story that Mr. Fitweiler has shown superiority over Mrs. Barrows is at a party when the two originally meet. Mrs. Barrows took Mr. Fitweiler away from the numerous men he was in conversation with. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fitweiler s superiority is shown over Mrs. Barrows is when he requests very little information from Mr. Martin about the accusations against himself. Mrs. Barrows stormed into Mr. Fitweiler s office the morning after Mr. Martin arrived at Mrs. Barrows home. Mrs. Barrows warned Mr. Fitweiler of the things Mr. Martin had threatened the night before, but it was of no avail because Mr. Fitweiler had to protect himself, not Mrs. Barrows. Mr. Fitweiler was incredibly worried that the affair would become known; he had to do whatever possible to keep this from being revealed. The head of the filing department, neat, quiet, attentive, stood in front of the old man s desk. Mr. Fitweiler was pale and nervous. (5). This quote shows how concerned Mr. Fitweiler truly was about anyone discovering his relationship with Mrs. Barrows. When Mr. Fitweiler brings Mr. Martin in his office to inform him on what Mrs. Barrows had just accused him of, Mr. Fitweiler asks for very little information and a minuscule amount of details to support his alibi. Mr. Martin did not lie when telling of his night, he simply left of the most crucial events. Mr. Martin left out events that would have aided in Mrs. Barrows being rescued of being made a complete fool of. Mr. Fitweiler is also much more compassionate when talking with Mr. Martin as compared to Mrs. Barrows. • 7. Hydrologic Cycle Essay HYDROLOGIC CYCLE The hydrologic cycle is a constant movement of water above, on, and below the earth s surface. It is a cycle that replenishes ground water supplies. It begins as water vaporizes into the atmosphere from vegetation, soil, lakes, rivers, snowfields and oceans a process called evapotranspiration. As the water vapor rises it condenses to form clouds that return water to the land through precipitation: rain, snow, or hail. Precipitation falls on the earth and either percolates into the soil or flows across the ground. Usually it does both. When precipitation percolates into the soil it is called infiltration when it flows across the ground it is called surface run off. The amount of precipitation that infiltrates, versus the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The voids are spaces between grains of sand, or cracks in dense rock. All water beneath the land surface occurs within such void space sand is referred to as underground or subsurface water. Subsurface water occurs in two different zones. One zone, located immediately beneath the land surface in most areas, contains both water and air in the voids. This zone is referred to as the unsaturated zone. Other names for the unsaturated zone are zone of aeration and vadose zone. The unsaturated zone is almost always underlain by a second zone in which all voids are full of water. This zone is defined as the saturated zone. Water in the saturated zone is referred to as ground water and is the only subsurface water available to supply wells and springs. Water table is often misused as a synonym for ground water. However, the water table is actually the boundary between the unsaturated and saturated zones. It represents the upper surface of the ground water. Technically speaking, it is the level at which the hydraulic pressure is equal to atmospheric pressure. The water level found in unused wells is often the same level as the water table. AQUIFERS An aquifer is a saturated geologic formation that will yield a usable quantity of water to a well or spring. Ground water occurs in aquifers under two conditions: confined and unconfined. A confined aquifer is overlain by a confining bed, such as an impermeable layer of clay ... • 8. Essay on Life Under the Taliban Life Under the Taliban Afghanistan is one of the poorest and most troubled countries in the world. The land that occupies Afghanistan has a long history of domination by foreign conquerors and strife among internally warring factions. At the gateway between Asia and Europe, this land was conquered by Darius I of Babylonia circa 500 B.C., and Alexander the Great of Macedonia in 329 B.C., among others. In recent years, war and lawlessness had destroyed much of the country; millions of people went into exile and brought its economy to a standstill. Thousands of people including more than 50,000 Russians were killed . With U.S. weapons and Pakistan?s support, the Afghan mujahideen forced the Soviet Union to leave Afghanistan in 1989. Unfortunately, when the Soviet Union pulled out, different factions of the mujahideen entered into a civil war. Afghanistan Civil War The Afghan civil war was been one of the deadliest and most persistent conflicts of the second half of the twentieth century. Nearly 2 million Afghans have been killed and 600,000 to 2 million wounded . More then 6 million Afghans fled to Pakistan and Iran, producing the world?s largest single refugee population since 1981, while at least 2 million more Afghans were internally displaced . • 9. Symbolism in Tim Burton´s Films Essay In the words of Tim Burton, One person s craziness is another person s reality. This is the truth for the magical movies he has put together. Burton grew up different from others; he was an outcast from the people around him. Enjoying B movies, he would watch them a great deal. Out of all the characters, Burton preferred the monsters or strange creatures. Some inspirations to him are Edgar Allen Poe, Roald Dahl, and Vincent Price. He frowns upon conformity, for he prefers individuality. What is normal to Burton could be completely wild to another. In Tim Burton s distinctive films, he uses symbolism and the comparison of individuality and conformity to emphasize the purity of an outsider. To start, symbolism was used in Edward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A key part of the symbolism in the movie is changing colors. For instance, Ilosovic Stayne, the red queen s partner, has an eye patch that goes back and forth from black and red. This shows how he was deceiving character that faked liking the red queen for his own benefit. Additionally, the mad hatter s eye color changes with his mood. When he is calm, they are green, but when he gets angry, they turn red. To conclude, Tim Burton uses symbolism to give a deeper lesson and to clear up the state of a character. Moreover, Burton uses satire to emphasize Edward s innocence; all characters represented a different flaw in society. For example, all of the housewives were nosy. One of them was particularly religious and judgmental. Burton portrays Joyce as a flirtatious liar. Kim s boyfriend, on the other hand, was controlling and impulsive. In contrast, Edward had none of these faults. The town that they live in is made out to look perfect and neat, while Edward s home is scary and intimidating. In reality, the castle is more of a humane place than the town. The real monsters are the regular people. To sum up, Burton gives a negative connotation towards society, verse praise towards uniqueness using satire. Similarly, Alice in Wonderland also uses satire throughout the movie. First and foremost, everyone who lives in the red queens castle, that s not an animal, faked having large features. Some had big ears, a big nose, or a big belly. This showed that ... This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes masculinity in a way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our society today. Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and ability to discover and examine all the possible meanings of masculinity by different scholars, academics, peers and even through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we choose to identify ourselves with. William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive author who is rich in his writing. • 13. College Pressures Zinsser Summary The article, College Pressures , written by William Zinsser, explores the pressures associated with college and its reflection on student work and attitude. In 1979, the time this work was published, Zinsser was the head of a residential college at Yale University (Zinsser, 437). Emerged in campus life, Zinsser examines the student behavior affiliated with the four sources of pressure he identifies as the symptoms of attending college. After reviewing Zinsser s article, I can relate certain aspects of economic and parental pressures, as well as peer and self induced pressures, in my lifestyle as a student attending Columbus State Community College. Zinsser separates college student pressures into four individual categories: economic pressure, parental pressure, peer pressure, and self induced pressure. He believes that students are too caught up on what will look good on their resume and should, instead, be exploring the opportunities of college and, as he states, [allow] the hand of God or chance to nudge them down some unforeseen trail (442). Although Zinsser believed these sources of pressure to be separate, he noticed that some worked hand in hand. For instance, he noted that if the parents of the students were experiencing financial stress putting them through college, they are more likely to put pressure on their children. They, for example, would want their son or daughter to chose a major in which they will be financially set for the rest of their lives. Due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Company, which owned and managed health clubs in the Greater Boston area, had retained a local investment firm, Kaufman Co., to solicit bids. They received several bids from national or regional health club companies seeking to establish themselves in the Boston area. In 1999, HDC had the option to purchase the Lexington Club real estate for $6.5 million The Company had not purchased real estate in the past for two reasons. First, as a small privately held company, HDC preferred to use its limited capital to add, expand, or enhance clubs. Second, leasing property allowed the company to reduce its risk by keeping real estate costs proportional to revenue. In the case of the Lexington property, however, HDC management determined that the lease payments were substantially greater than the costs of owning the real estate. After attempting unsuccessfully to renegotiate the lease payments downward, HDC decided to purchase the Lexington Club property. The Company financed the Lexington Club purchase with $750,000 of excess cash and a mortgage for $5,750,000 at an interest rate of 8.75%. The Offers to Purchase Kaufman Company solicited bids for HDC in February 2000. In exchange for signing a confidentiality agreement, potential bidders received an information memorandum that provided a detailed description of the Company, its operations, and its financial results. Potential bidders were also given the opportunity to visit the health clubs and to interview management. Five potential buyers submitted bids. Patients with TOF may experience episodes of extreme cyanosis called tet spells often during times of stress such as crying, dehydration, and fever. If left untreated these hypercyanotic episodes can be fatal. Deletion of the gene on Chromosome 22, (22q11) is often the cause of TOF among other congenital heart defects. • 18. Analysis Of One Love Under God By H. Norman Wright Week One Reflection As things in this world seem to go by faster and faster each year; we seldom take the time to remember why we fell in love with our significant other in the first place. While reading One Love Under God , by H. Norman Wright, it made me think back to the beginning of my relationship with my husband. Being a divorced mom of a beautiful daughter I wanted someone that could love me the way I desired to be loved and cared for. I had never expected to get a divorce from my first husband, but one to many times of adultery was enough in my books. We had tried and tried to make things work, but he could not change his ways. I am committed to make this marriage work not only for our children, but for each other. Wright says, Marriage keeping involves preserving, caring for, and honoring marriage. This is a commitment to do whatever it takes, not just for our own marriage, but for others, too (Wright, 2005, p. 15). I desire to be a keeper of marriage, not only mine, but to also help others who are struggling to find that love they once had. I feel that more people should help support others in any way they can, including relationships. Marriage is tough and having a good support system to keep you focused, is important. Vampirism is a big theme that presents itself in both poems and both speakers made sure to exploit this general theme. To begin with, the poem Chicago , addresses the outlook of Chicago during the period of its development. The speaker of the poem focuses on the things that Chicago is consisted of and in several ways, debunked the misconceptions about Chicago. This was achieved through humor and a bit of sarcasm. Chicago is seen to be laughing...as an ignorant fighter...who has never lost a battle. Professor Per Peterson from the Department of Nuclear Engineering says, It s difficult for me to see how we can transition away from fossil fuels and not use significant amounts of nuclear energy (Phillips, 2012). Many argue that renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind should be implemented instead of nuclear energy as they too produce no air pollution. However, modern society requires a reliable base load of electricity which renewables are not equipped to provide. In Australia there are limited sources that could potentially supply a suitable base load . They include coal and gas (which produce CO2 emissions) geothermal, hydro (which is limited due to the lack of water), developing technology and nuclear energy (Krieg, 2014). Renewable sources of energy also prove to be a problem as they are too fickle to provide base load power to a nation, as they depend on intermittent things such as weather and seasons, whereas nuclear power is available constantly whilst being a cleaner source of power. An example of the environmental success nuclear energy has provided is France in the 1970s and 1980s. The country switched from using fossil fuels and instead used nuclear energy to supply 78% of its electricity (see figure 3). Throughout human history, individuals have been curious about life other than on planet Earth. The question that remains is if humanity is alone in the universe. This question is very important because after all, the universe is still expanding. In addition to the expansion of the universe, astronomers have discovered at least six potential habitable worlds in our own solar system (CITE). It is natural to wonder if other worlds might also have intelligent life and civilizations. Many claims have been made that we have already been visited by aliens in UFOs, however, while plenty of evidence has been offered for scientific examination so far none of it has been enough to convince us that the claims of visitations are real (Bennett, 260). However, this doesn t mean that there is no intelligent life beyond our home planet. Due to this, taxpayers should fund programs to begin the search for extra terrestrial life in the universe. The reason why there should be programs that fund the search for extra terrestrial life in the universe is because extra terrestrial life can help enhance our understanding of the universe. Where ever extra terrestrial beings are located in space they can enhance our understanding of the universe. This is because we are the newcomers in the universe and extra terrestrial beings can potentially be around since the time our universe was created, which was 14 billion years ago (Bennett,1 ). ...
