Germany has a long history with European integration following its destruction in World War 2. Konrad Adenauer became chancellor in 1949 and envisioned a "united Europe". In 1950, the French foreign minister Robert Schuman proposed unifying the coal and steel industries, leading to the 1951 formation of the European Coal and Steel Community among six founding members. This evolved into the 1957 European Economic Community. Germany's membership in the EU helped prevent future wars, supported friendship among members, and provided checks and balances during economic crises. Public attitudes in Germany toward the EU are generally positive, though some policies are debated as being better handled at national or EU levels. The Greek crisis was extensively covered in German media.
The document provides background information about Poland's history and key figures. It discusses Poland's loss of independence in the 18th century and regain of independence after WWI. It then profiles important Polish historical figures like John Paul II, Lech Walesa, Jozef Pilsudski, Frederic Chopin, and Marie Curie. The document outlines Poland's transition to democracy in 1989 and process of joining the European Union from 1994 to 2004. It notes both benefits and concerns of EU membership for Poland.
Spain joined the European Union in 1985 after two failed attempts due to its dictatorship system. Since joining, Spain has received over 78 billion euros in economic support and seen increased jobs, development, and tourism. However, Spain still struggles with issues like unemployment, low education performance, and pollution. Today, 65% of Spaniards feel European due to successful integration and economic development with the EU.
